The siding itself is not considered a DTC block per se, but in some situations sidings must not be occupied without authority from the train dispatcher. Section 1 of the Channel Tunnel Rail Link, opened on 28 September 2003, is a section of high-speed track from the Channel Tunnel to Fawkham Junction in north Kent with a maximum speed of . Streamlined Type Monza bodywork The W196's delayed debut at the 1954 French Grand Prix saw the introduction of the aerodynamic closed-wheel aluminium "Type Monza" streamliner body for the high speed track at Reims. Juan Manuel Fangio and Karl Kling claimed a 1–2 finish, and Hans Herrmann posted the fastest lap. The same body was later used only three more times: at the 1954 British Grand Prix at Silverstone, 1954 Italian Grand Prix at Monza, where it picked up its nickname in 1954, and at Monza again at the 1955 Italian Grand Prix. In total the "Type Monza" won three races (1954 French Grand Prix, 1954 and 1955 Italian Grand Prix), all with Fangio at the wheel.

The relationship between Bertone and Alfa Romeo reached its creative peak with the Berlinetta Aerodinamica Tecnica (BAT) concept cars which pushed back the boundaries of car design and aerodynamics: the BAT 5 in 1953, the BAT 7 in 1954 and the BAT 9 of 1955. Research into aerodynamics culminated in the production of the Abarth 750 Record in 1956, built on a Fiat 600 chassis and tested on the high-speed track at Monza. This Abarth set an impressive ten world records, including doing at an average of 156.36 km/h and covering 10,125.26 km in 72 hours. In 1957, the company expanded to start the production of the NSU Sport Prinz.

The FS Frecciarossa 1000 During the 1920s and 1930s, Italy was one of the first countries to develop the technology for high-speed rail. The country constructed the Direttissime railways connecting major cities on dedicated electrified high-speed track (although at speeds lower to what today would be considered high-speed rail) and developed the fast ETR 200 trainset. After the Second World War and the fall of the fascist regime, interest in high-speed rail dwindled, with the successive governments considering it too costly and developing the tilting Pendolino, to run at medium-high speed (up to ) on conventional lines, instead. The only exception was the Direttissima between Florence and Rome, but it was not conceived to be part of a high-speed line on large scale.

This makes connecting city centre stations such as Paris-Gare de Lyon and Lyon-Perrache by TGV a simple and inexpensive proposition, using existing intra-city tracks and stations built for conventional trains. LGV route designers have tended to build new intermediate stations in suburban areas or in the open countryside several kilometers away from cities. This allows TGVs to stop without incurring too great a time penalty, since more time is spent on high-speed track; in addition, many cities' stations are stub-ends, while LGVs frequently bypass cities.

The places Grub am Forst and its district Roth am Forst (which name is indicative of a settlement created by the clearing of the forest), Weißenbrunn am Forst and Buch am Forst all owe their names to their locations on the outskirts of the Lichtenfels Forest. When the federal highway Bundesautobahn 73 was under construction, there were some protests by environmental conservation groups because the route was planned to cut through the Lichtenfels Forest; e.g. a lawsuit filed by Bund für Umwelt und Naturschutz Deutschland [German, “Confederation for the Protection of the Environment and Nature of Germany”] against the regional government of Upper Franconia was turned down by the Federal Administrative Court of Germany in 2004. The same protests were also made for the same reason against Deutsche Bahn’s high-speed track, the Nuremberg–Erfurt high-speed railway, which now runs across the Lichtenfels Forest between Niederfüllbach and Weißenbrunn am Forst.
