Big drum music is performed throughout the Windward Islands and is especially known in Saint Vincent & the Grenadines. The drums are traditionally made from tree trunks, but are more often made from rum kegs now. Big Drum is commonly performed at weddings and other celebrations, especially the launches of boats.

James Christopher Monger of AllMusic called "Rx (Medicate)" an "opioid crisis anti-anthem" and one of the songs on the record that felt "rooted in the present", and Alternative Addiction called it—along with other tracks on the album—"ridiculously fun". In less enthusiastic critiques of Wake Up Call, Über Röck's Jonni D criticized the single, stating that the "auto-tuned whistling hooks wreak aural havoc". Allen J. Miller from Cryptic Rock said the song sounds socially aware but accused Connolly of "lazy songwriting" that seems to "glorify addiction rather than crusade against it" because of the lyrics in the bridge: "Your friends are high right now ... And no one’s ever coming down", but added that Connolly's lyrics have often been misinterpreted. Connolly acknowledged the song has drawn "some pushback from fans", but the band has also received positive reception at live performances.

His adaptation of Evelyn for the BBC's Play for Today strand was deemed "unsatisfying" by critic David Wade, who felt that Adrian's stylised dialogue clashed with the physicality of the piece, leaving the play at a disadvantage. Buffet also suffered upon its transition to television. Adrian, however, wrote a number of original works for the medium, often as part of anthology series such as The Wednesday Play, Theatre 625, Armchair Theatre, ITV Playhouse and the aforementioned Play for Today; his 1971 play The Foxtrot marked an early departure from the latter series' emphasis on socially aware, issue-based drama towards broad comedy and non- naturalism. In 1973, his play The Withered Arm was transmitted, alongside contributions from Dennis Potter and David Mercer, as part of the Wessex Tales series for BBC2, a group of plays based on the short stories of Thomas Hardy.

Socially aware teenaged heiress Madeline Joyce was born in Washington, D.C., and was the niece and ward of radio mogul James Bennet, who was sponsoring a Professor Lawson, a scientist claiming to have gotten superpowers through a device that had been struck by lightning. Joyce, secretly tampering with the contraption during a thunderstorm that night, herself gained the ability to fly and great strength after lightning similarly struck, knocking her unconscious (she originally had x-ray vision, as well as other powers, but after her few early appearances they were retconned). The panicky scientist, seeing the apparently dead young woman, destroyed the device and then killed himself. Joyce survived to fight crime as the patriotically garbed Miss America, appearing regularly in Marvel Mystery Comics and All Winners Comics. After three years with Univision, Rose created "American Latino Syndication" to create English language, culturally relevant television for young, U.S. born Latinos who were not being reached by Spanish language TV. From 2001 through 2008 Rose independently produced hundreds of episodes of the pioneering, nationally syndicated TV shows ("American Latino TV" and "LatiNation"). The award winning shows attracted 100+ broadcast affiliates, a cable network deal and millions in sponsorship dollars & tens of millions of viewers over the years. Rose went on to receive national recognition as an expert in Hispanic media and marketing. Rose negotiated the acquisition of American Latino Syndication to LATV Networks in 2008 & began pursuing his passion of world-travel full-time. Rose’s travels inspired him to develop Raw Travel TV to fill another void in the marketplace, travel that did not revolve around high end luxury or focus on food, but authentic cultural experiences in a socially aware context.
