After a brief spell with Sheffield United, Warboys joined Bristol Rovers. The Eastcastle Street robbery occurred on 21 May 1952 near Oxford Street in London. Seven masked men held up a post office van, and escaped with £287,000 (estimated 2014 worth, £7,380,000). Billy Hill, a notorious London gangster, was the mastermind behind the plan, and Terry Hogan was said to be one of the robbers. The robbery was considered by police to have set a milestone in a new era of "project" crime because unlike the "smash-and-grab" style robberies of the time, the Eastcastle Street robbery involved meticulous planning, and staged rehearsals under the guise of a crime movie production.

Lady Susan's father Lord Longbourne (Spencer Trevor) meanwhile is experiencing financial embarrassment, and is persuaded by professional criminal Mandel (Marsh) to conspire in an insurance scam whereby Mandel will steal a diamond belonging to Lady Susan from the West End jeweller where it is currently on display, Longbourne will claim the cash and Mandel will return the diamond to him for a cut of the proceeds. Mandel steals the diamond in an audacious smash-and-grab raid but the crime is witnessed by Starr and Lady Susan, who happen to be passing at the time. Starr heads off in pursuit of Mandel and corners him on a rooftop.
