The second-class men's entrance led to Pool 2 and the second-class 'slipper' baths. The women's entrance led to the women's 'slipper' baths department. Originally all bathers were supplied with a towel, soap and (for swimmers) a costume, collected from the baths attendant's kiosk. Towels and costumes were subsequently washed and dried in the steam laundry room located on the first floor of the boiler house.

Steam and shower baths were located behind the slipper baths. A comprehensive public laundry was located at the rear of the building, on Arthur Street. It contained 48 wooden washing tubs, drying equipment and ironing rooms. An uncovered water tank supplied the baths and was erected above the boiler house with a capacity of 24,000 gallons.

The original Poplar Baths opened in 1852, costing £10,000. It was built to provide public wash facilities for the East End's poor as a result of the Baths and Washhouses Act 1846. The baths incorporated slipper and vapour baths. The slipper baths section contained 12 baths in the men's first-class division, 24 in the men's second-class and six in both women's divisions.

Like many others it became a bingo hall in the late 1960s. The baths were built in 1924. As a council facility they included not only a swimming pool but also slipper baths for the many homes that did not have their own bathrooms at that date. The village had one main Church of England parish church, St Mary Magdalene's Church, Creswell, and both a Methodist and Baptist chapel.

The first known swimming baths in Northwich was the Verdin Baths, situated on Verdin Park, presented by Robert Verdin in commemoration of the Jublilee of Queen Victoria in 1887. It consisted of a cast-iron plunge bath and five slipper baths. Northwich Public Baths was built in 1913 following subsidence at Verdin Park pool.

The building reopened in April 2012 after 16 months of structural work on the fire exit of Pool 2, asbestos removal from the basement, and extensive cleaning and painting. Pool 2 is currently open for swimming and is well used, but Pool 1 has been closed since 2003. The second-class 'slipper' baths were in continual use until October 2004, but have since closed. In January 2017 it was reported that the council plans to close the baths in June 2017.

The practice relocated to the site in 1996; the building was converted from a former public laundry and slipper baths. The Chandler Community Hall at 15 Lambeth Walk serves the adjacent China Walk estate, a London County Council estate where the houses are named after different china manufacturers, including Wedgwood, Derby and Doulton. A plaque on the Hall commemorates Charlie Chaplin whose early years were spent nearby. Next to the Chandler Community Hall is the Pelham Hall, now the sculpture department of Morley College.

At the turn of the 20th, there were a high concentration of butchers and grocers, as was typical for the time, but these were gradually replaced by pubs, cafes and charity shops. The street was home to Rooted Records, the central location of the Bristol dubstep scene until closure in 2010. The Bristol North Baths were based on Gloucester Road, and the building is Grade II listed. Opening in 1915, they once included an annex for "slipper baths" that catered for individual bathing, as opposed to swimming in a group.

Bristol South swimming pool, a grade II listed building, in the south of Dame Emily Park is currently undergoing a renovation to modernise its facilities. Once a year you can look round the old Slipper Baths here on Bristol Open Doors. Southville Community Development Association (SCDA) is a local community-led organisation that supports many local projects and also runs the Southville Centre - a community centre, café, nursery, after-school club and older peoples Monday club. Southville is also the name of a council ward which includes the northern part of Bedminster, Ashton Gate and Bower Ashton Boundaries recently amended.

Two classes of facilities were provided, with second class cubicles containing "slipper baths" (where one end is raised and sloped creating a more comfortable lounging position) on ground level, and "first class baths" on the main floor and a mikvah and turkish baths. The popularity of the swimming pool increased with the introduction of mixed bathing in 1947, and it became the venue for swimming competitions. After a period of decline and demolition threats in the 1970s, the building was saved by a Builders Labourers Federation green ban. Later being extensively renovated and restored in 1981–83, designed by Kevin Greenhatch with Gunn Williams & Fender.

The heat generated from the baths provided heating and hot water to the Bow Library via pipes under the road. Bow Baths provided a meeting and entertainment venue with concerts and variety shows competing, and often combining with, political rallies. Regular Sunday evening lectures had speakers including Sylvia Pankhurst, George Lansbury (who lived round the corner in St Stephens Road) and Ben Tillett on topics ranging from war and peace, the right to vote to the Welsh Miners Strike of 1914 Bow Baths was badly bomb damaged during WW2 and never re-opened. In 1961, a new Bow Baths was built in Sutherland Place which included 60 slipper baths and a laundry block.

The public library with its clock tower The baths building consists of two swimming pools (the first-class or "Gala" pool and the second-class pool), three 'slipper' bath departments (men's first-class, men's second-class, and women's) comprising a total of 46 private washing baths, a committee room which was primarily used for meetings of swimming clubs, a flat formerly used by the resident money-taker, a boiler house containing two 1950s coal-fired boilers and a water filter room containing two filtration tanks dating from the 1930s. The boiler house has three levels: ground contains the boilers, first floor contains the laundry room, second floor contain a large cast iron cold-water storage tank. The building has three entrances, all of which led to a central booking desk. The first-class men's entrance led to Pool 1 and the first-class 'slipper' baths department.

Hillsborough is also the home and name of the Sheffield Wednesday FC stadium. Hillsborough baths (properly known as the Walkley and Hillsborough District Baths) on Langsett Road were built in 1926 by the Sheffield City architect F.E.P. Edwards on open fields belonging to Rawson Springs Farm. The building remained a swimming bath until 1991 when it was replaced by the Hillsborough Leisure Centre for swimming activities in the area. It then became the “Deep End” bar and live music venue before becoming the Rawson Spring public house in July 2007. Other pubs in the central area of Hillsborough have more history, The Shakey (formerly The Shakespeare) and The Freemasons both pre-date the 1864 flood in which they were badly damaged.
