To accommodate the influx of people, new roads and rail lines had to be built, and the city's power grid and telephone lines expanded. Enhancements also had to be made to sewer and water capacity.

Pico soon began expansion, installing its first chairlift in 1954 and expanding to the current summit in 1965. By its 50th anniversary in 1987, Pico had become a major resort in the region with high speed quads, snowmaking, and a new sportcenter. In 1996, the resort went into receivership and was bought by the nearby Killington Mountain Resort and Ski Area in December 1997. However, ski runs have not yet been cut to connect the two resorts.

Lift passes for Mont Chéry (at one side of Les Gets) can also be purchased for that area only. The ski area consists mainly of blue and red runs (beginner and intermediate). There is an area known as "The Bowl" into which numerous ski runs and chairlifts feed. Also in this area are the resort's most easily accessible black runs: 'Yeti', accessed via the resort's slowest chairlift, La Rosta, and Myrtilles accessed by the Grains d'Or Express.

One can ski between 900m and 1800m above sea- level and offers, amongst wild, unspoilt, and preserved terrain, 20 pistes (ski-runs) givings a total of 40 km of tracks. A large portion of these tracks are covered by artificial snow-making machines to make the skiing more snow- sure in lighter Winters. Saint-Jean-d'Aulps also offers many summer-time activities, namely: rock climbing, via ferrata, walking and hiking, mountain- biking routes, fishing, and para-gliding.

At the base of the gondola lift there are a couple of restaurants and bars and a ski hire shop. Le Roc d'Enfer is home to the Circuit Roc d'Enfer, a marked, posted set of red ski runs which is broken into two 5 km sections of uninterrupted Alpine skiing set in a calm valley. The two 5 km sections are linked by a chair- and then drag-lift at the village of La Chevrerie in the Vallée Verte.

As of 2018, Kopaonik ski resort has 28 ski lifts, with of ski slopes for all categories. With around of alpine ski runs and of cross country runs, it is the largest ski resort in Serbia. Among other features, it has night skiing run and artificial snow system covering most of the resort. Kopaonik has mild winters with high levels of snowfall, and on average about 200 sunny days annually with 160 days covered with snow.

Coworking Bansko is a community of Digital Nomads that has two co- working locations in the north and south part of the town. The nearby village of Banya, located only from the town, is known for its 27 thermal mineral springs.

Environmental groups have raised concerns surrounding the deforestation from the slopes of Gariwang mountain to build the Jeongseon Alpine Centre. Officials claim it is necessary as it is the only slope that will accommodate Olympic requirements and the forest will be restored after the games are done. Environmental groups are skeptical as the forest includes old growth of ancient and rare species. A nearby stream was diverted into a reservoir at the base of the ski runs.

The secondary valley runs south from Château-d'Œx to the villages of Etivaz and La Lecherette in the direction of Les Mosses (Col-des-Mosses) and Aigle, continuing to the canton of Valais. It benefits from idyllic summers with beautiful hikes and walks possible. Exhilarating winter skiing is possible in several locations, especially near Rougemont and Château-d'Œx. The Rougemont ski location is linked by a piste that runs into the Gstaad network of ski runs.

Starting with 1 Poma ski tow, it has grown to a year-round highland activity centre with 20 maintained ski runs, 15 lifts and some snowmaking coverage. The infamy of the A939 road stems from its traditional heralding in of the Scottish winter by becoming blocked with snow drifts. Local folklore and legend has it that this road blocks from October to June each year. This is slightly exaggerated; however, it is frequently closed in any of these months of the year.

Chestnut Mountain Ski Resort The Chestnut Mountain ski resort is located in Galena, Illinois, 20 miles southeast of Dubuque, Iowa, in Jo Daviess County. It is visible from a 10-mile radius. The ski resort opened in 1959 and features two restaurants, a lodge with 119 rooms, an indoor pool and hot tub area, as well as several other accommodations. There are 19 named ski runs: 4 Beginner, 11 Intermediate, 3 Advanced, plus "The Far Side", a snowboarding terrain park.

A quarter of the town is water, and as a town with bridges and canals, Varkaus is a popular tourist destination, both in summer (baths and boot tours) and in winter (100 km cross-country ski runs). In 1991 the town of Kecskemét formed a partnership with Rüsselsheim and is its most recent addition. Kecskemét is the capital of the Hungarian komitat Bács-Kiskun, with a population of about 100,000. Kecskemét is located in the national park Kiskunság between Danube and Theiss.

Portes du Soleil offers ski runs from shallow beginner slopes to challenging downhill slopes. Due to the size of the area, it takes several days to traverse all different resorts. There is a main circuit through most of the Swiss and some of the French resorts (Chatel-Morgins-Champoussin-Les Crosets/Champery-Avoriaz-Chatel)that can be skied in both clockwise and counterclockwise directions. Apart from a short walk in Morgins, the circuit can be skied without removing one's skis or board.

Selimitsa Peak from Cherni Vrah Selimitsa () is a peak rising to 2,041 m west of Torfeno Branishte Nature Reserve in northwestern Vitosha Mountain in Bulgaria. The northern slopes of the peak are occupied by the ski runs of Konyarnika Ski Centre. Linked by tracks to Kumata Chalet and Zlatnite Mostove Tourist Centre to the north, Selimitsa Chalet, Kladnitsa Monastery and Kladnitsa Village to the west, Matnitsa River valley and Chuypetlovo Village to the south, and the mountain's summit Cherni Vrah to the east.

An old little cottage in at allotment garden museum in Niihama, Tampere Niihama is a neighbourhood in the northeast part of the city of Tampere, Finland. The area is mostly wooded and mainly for outdoor use. There are cross-country ski runs in winter, and there is also a water sports center and Niihama Allotment Garden. Niihama is bordered on the west by Kauppi, on the north by Lake Näsijärvi, on the south by Teiskontie and on the east by Highway 9.

However, due to several characteristics of its ecology and the management practices currently conducted in the Sierra Nevada, the short- and long-term conservation of this chrysomelid is threatened. First, T. lugens is monophagous on the shrub H. spinosa. Unfortunately, the broad use of the high mountains to develop ski facilities leads to the removal of almost every plant taller than . This results in the total elimination of the H. spinosa shrubs in those places where the ski runs are arranged.

Madonna di Campiglio () is a village and a ski resort in northeast Italy. It is a frazione of the comune of Pinzolo. The village lies in the Val Rendena at an elevation of above sea level, and has approximately 1,000 inhabitants. The ski area around Madonna has 57 lifts and of ski runs, with a capacity of more than 31,000 people per hour, rises to , has of snow park, for Nordic skiing and links to the pistes in Pinzolo, Folgarida, and Marilleva.

Söll is one of the principal ski-holiday villages of the region Ski Welt Wilder Kaiser. It is located beneath the conical Hohe Salve peak, the highest point in the ski area. The Hohe Salve also offers black and red classified ski runs as well as ski routes from the top lift station. The Hohe Salve has a church located on its peak as well as a mountain restaurant that features a revolving terrace, offering a panoramic view of the region.

In 1978, Emilio López Frugoni, a ski lover from Mendoza, bought 51 hectares of land and started a project to build a ski centre next to Mendoza City. The ski resort was inaugurated in 1979. Today the ski runs (25 in total) cover a surface of about 300 hectares, for all-level skiers and with ski lifts to reach different levels and runs. About 1950 people can be accommodated in Los Penitentes since there is a variety of facilities provided, such as apartments, apart hotels, and hostels.

The area is very family-friendly but also offers the usual big variety of alpine destinations with skiing, snowboarding, tobogganing, hiking or cross- country skiing. Together with the Montafon, the Brandnertal mountain railways can guarantee snow safety throughout the winter and guests have the opportunity to explore the numerous ski runs in the whole Montafon in addition to the Brandnertal. Many mountain and ski huts allow hiking on foot or on skies. The interactive hiking trail "Tierwelten Brandnertal" explains the animal life of the region.

In 1979, the first ski runs on Mount Washington Alpine Resort were built, bringing in new tourists. However, in 1982, the local economy suffered when 409 Squadron was transferred to CFB Cold Lake in Alberta, resulting in sizeable transfer of personnel and their families, and a resultant loss of service industry jobs. This, coupled with the recession of the 1980s, resulted in a decrease in land values as families moved out of the town. The number of homes sold annually dropped from 420 to 150.

Arthur named the area Nordic Valley because of his Norwegian ancestry. Many names of the streets, ski runs, and the Nordic Valley Ski lodge, Odin Hall, are found in Norwegian folklore. As well as hosting many parties and gatherings, Odin Hall has housed the golf shop, ski rental, snack bar and ski patrol. Before it was a lodge, it was a hay barn complete with two hay shoots running from the basement to the roof, reaching two cupola vents situated on top of the barn.

A deep gully descends along the north-western slopes that holds perennial firn. To the west is situated the valley of the Musala Bistritsa, a tributary of Bulgaria's longest river, the Iskar and Musala refuge; to the north-east is situated the Saragyol Cirque that contains three glacial lakes. Deno is located in the vicinity of the ski runs of Borovets and the cabin lift to Yastrebots refuge, which make it easily accessible. In winter some of the tourist tracks are exposed to avalanches.

The resort has 55 ski lifts including 1 cable car and 14 chairs. These give it an uplift capacity of 57,000 skiers per hour. The resort is linked to Vars through the Forêt Blanche ski area giving a total of of ski runs situated between 1650 and 2750 metres altitude. Risoul should be well placed to pick up weather systems from Italy or the Atlantic but has suffered from a lack of snow over the last couple of seasons with skiing on artificial snow at the bottom of the ski domain.

The Tierces section also has easier blue and red runs such as Coins (blue) and Tierces (red). From most places in the Tierces section one can, weather permitting, see a vivid panorama of Mont Blanc and its neighbouring peaks including Aiguille de Bionnassay and Domes de Miage. The Roselette section is a north-facing area of ski runs which range from blue to black, the hardest run in this section being the black of Olympique. The Aiguille de Rosselette towers over the majority of the section giving it its name.

View through the centre of the old town of Tignes, with the original 16th century church on the left hand side. Tignes-les-Brevières (1550m) is a small skiing village in the French Alps near (but slightly lower than) the better- known ski resort of Tignes. Due to geographical location the village receives as much snowfall as its neighbours and during the 2005/6 season, Les Brevieres had over 4 metres of snow. The town is connected to other parts of Tignes after ski runs shut by a continuously operating gondola.

A view of Borovets in winter Rila is a popular tourist destination for winter sports, spa tourism, recreation and cultural tourism. Borovets, situated on the northern slopes at 9 km from Samokov, is the oldest winter resort in Bulgaria and the largest one in Rila. It has 27 marked ski runs with a total length of 58 km equipped with 12 lifts facilities and provides conditions for alpine skiing, cross-country skiing, night skiing, biathlon, snowboard, etc.; it has hosted competitions in the FIS Alpine Ski World Cup and the Biathlon World Championships 1993.

A set of backcountry ski runs in the Battle Range of the Canadian Rocky Mountains Backcountry skiing (US), also called off-piste (Europe), alpine touring, or out-of-area, is skiing in the backcountry on unmarked or unpatrolled areas either inside or outside a ski resort's boundaries. This contrasts with alpine skiing which is typically done on groomed trails benefiting from a ski patrol. Unlike ski touring, backcountry skiing can include the use of ski lifts including snowcats and helicopters. Recent improvements in equipment have increased the popularity of the sport.

The village hosted the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships twice, in 1985 and 2005, both cohosted with Santa Caterina di Valfurva. There are of marked ski runs, the longest run of which is , served by fifteen lifts and several ski schools. Bormio is a regular stop on the World Cup circuit, usually with a men's downhill in late December. The Pista Stelvio, named after Stelvio Pass, is one of the most challenging downhill courses in the world; it is second-longest on the World Cup circuit, behind only the Lauberhorn in Wengen, Switzerland.

On 30 June 1936, the Canberra Times newspaper reported: The Mount Franklin chalet was constructed at Mount Franklin in 1938 to service the Canberra Alpine Club. Ski runs were cleared and ski tows were improvised. The Club also cleared runs elsewhere, completing a new ski run and jump on nearby Mount Ginini in 1951 - then judged to be the superior slope. Built on leased land, the Mount Franklin Chalet reverted to the Government when Namadgi National Park was created in 1984 and later operated as a museum before being destroyed in the 2003 bushfires.

It is located at about 1,020 meters (3,379 feet) above sea level near the city of Brașov in Romania and it is easily accessible by road. There are regular buses operated by Brașov Transit (RAT Brașov) which serve the 12 km route between Brașov and Poiana Brașov (line 20 and 100). The resort also runs minibuses to take visitors from hotels to the base of the ski runs from where they can hike or take a cable car to Cristianu Mare or Postăvaru summits. Poiana Brașov has a temperate-continental climate.

In March 2012, Powdr Corporation (owners of Park City Mountain Resort) announced that it had filed a lawsuit against Talisker Land Holdings, LLC (Talisker), the owner of Canyons Resort, as well as United Park City Mines Company, both partial land owners of the resort. The lawsuit filed by Powdr Corp. was in response to an eviction notice issue by Talisker, the entity that owns most of the land the ski runs are on, who had been leasing it to Powdr Corp. (a continuation of the lease made between Park City Mines and Powdr Corp.

The Vale Niseko is one of only a handful of ski-in ski-out buildings in Niseko due to the limited amount of residential land bordering the ski runs. Sitting at the base of the Family Run and approx 120 m to the village centre, owner/developer Niseko Alpine Developments (NISADE) bought additional neighbouring land on the ski run to ensure the ski run views are preserved. The site sits above an existing onsen from which the natural hot water is used to supply heating, water to private and public onsens throughout the building.

Village of Zürs Zürs (1717 meters above sea level) is one of the most renowned winter sports resorts in the Alps. Located in the westernmost Austrian state of Vorarlberg, almost directly on the border to North Tyrol, near the Flexenpass, Zürs is part of the Arlberg region, which also includes Lech, Oberlech, Zug, and Stubenbach. This region offers 87 ski-lifts, 200 kilometers of deep snow slopes and 305 km of ski runs. It has several (mostly luxurious) hotels and pensions, with a total of over 1,700 beds.

Mount Agassiz was first developed in the late 1950s when around 142 hectares was leased to a private operator for the development of a ski resort. In 1961, the Mount Agassiz ski area officially opened with a rope tow, and a handful of ski runs, and a new base lodge. It was in 1979 when a new Skyway double chairlift was purchased and installed on the north side, providing the ski area with expert runs. The ski resort operated for many successful years and provided many economic benefits to the nearby town of McCreary.

He designed some mountain houses like the Casa del Sole in Cervinia, Aosta Valley and the Slittovia of Lago Nero in Sauze d'Oulx, in Piedmont. In this work, all the art of Mollino is shown: a large, modern terrace protruding from the main volume contrasts with the traditional materials of the building. This building, placed on the ski runs and reachable during the winter only by ski, has been restored in 2001 and now contains temporary expositions. In 1952, Mollino designed the RAI Auditorium in Turin, which was radically restored bringing big changes to the original structure in 2006.

By car, it is about a ninety-minute drive from the city of Calgary; the Sunshine exit on the Trans Canada Highway is west of the town of Banff. Banff Sunshine ski runs and lifts are accessed via an eight-person high-speed gondola. It moves passengers from the parking lot (or bus terminal) to Goat's Eye mountain in 10 minutes and to the upper Village area in 18 minutes. There are 9 chairlifts and 120 trails within the alpine valley formed by the three mountains (Mount Standish, Lookout Mountain, and Goat's Eye Mountain) that constitute Banff Sunshine.

Skiers began visiting the Farellones area in the 1930s and in 1937, landowner Von Kiesling decided to sell the land off as plots to form a village. Not long after this, Antonio Padrós opened one of Farellones’ first hotels, the Posada de Farellones. Farellones currently has only a few ski runs but its cable car system provides access to El Colorado, located only five kilometres up the hill of the same name. They are often considered as one joint ski area with a total of 62 runs including 11 for beginners, 6 for intermediates, 33 for advanced skiers and 12 for experts.

Cypress Mountain is a ski area in West Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, located in the southern section of Cypress Provincial Park, operated under a BC Parks Park Use Permit. The ski resort is a 30-minute drive north of downtown Vancouver, and has 53 named alpine ski runs (many accessible for night skiing) and 19 km of cross country trails. Snowshoeing tours are also popular. Snow schools and rentals, Cypress Creek Grill, Gold Medal Cafe and Crazy Raven Bar and Grill and a Big Bear Sports retail shop are also located on the premises in the Cypress Creek Lodge.

Bill also encouraged the efforts of the Yallourn and Moe Rover Crews, who were some of the first to ski the Baw-Baw Plateau, originally at Mt Erica. Beginning in 1934, the Rovers cut a number of ski runs and developed the area as a community service. In 1938, the Yallourn Rover Crew rescued two boys who had been lost in the snow overnight. Their parents arranged for financing for the Rover Crew to build a hut near Mushroom Rocks and it was officially opened by Bill Waters in 1940 on the King's Birthday public holiday.

Cerro Catedral is a mountain located from San Carlos de Bariloche, and inside the Nahuel Huapí National Park, in Patagonia, Argentina. The mountain is the biggest ski center in South America and in the Southern Hemisphere, with a skiable area of , of ski runs, and a lift capacity of 35,000 skiers per hour. It is also popular due to the views of the Nahuel Huapi lake. There are also a number of hotels and hostels at the foot of the mountain, and a summer hikers' hut called Refugio Lynch on one of the tops of the mountain.

There are a total of 52 km (32 mi) of ski runs with 14 ski lifts (six cable cars, seven chair lifts, three railways, and two drag lifts). There is also off-piste skiing, but guiding is often needed and should be used. Within the village there is a large sports center with a 25 m swimming pool, sports hall, fitness room, café, information centre and other facilities. There is a large skating rink which is sometimes used for curling competitions as well as a specific curling rink that in the summer is a tennis court.

When the mountain is fully covered by snow, Thredbo has the longest ski runs in Australia, and this attracts around 700,000 winter visitors annually. In summer, Thredbo is a hiking and summer sport destination, including rock climbing and abseiling, fishing, cross-country cycling and downhill MTB riding and hosts a blues music festival, boasting approximately 300,000 summer visitors (figures are ). Thredbo resort was developed by a syndicate of people who were at the time working on the Snowy Mountains Hydro-Electric Scheme. In 1957, the syndicate was granted a head-lease over the area that Thredbo now occupies.

The system is operated mainly at night to top up the lower half of the mountain and any other high traffic areas. The automated areas include the Supertrail, Friday Flat, High Noon, The Cruiser area's Walkabout and Ballroom, Sundowner, Lovers Leap bypass, World Cup, and Lower True Blue. Thredbo has over 50 ski runs and employs a standard 3-colour grade system; green for beginners, blue intermediate and black diamond advanced. The longest continual run is from the top of Karel's T-Bar to Friday Flat and is 5.9 km long; however, this is composed of several trails.

Fantozzi's colleague Filini arranges for the entire office to go on a mountain trip to South Tyrol. Once in the mountain town of St. Ulrich, they realize there are no ski runs available, having they arrived in May. To keep a promise made to his wife, Fantozzi checks into a weight loss clinic run by Professor Birkermaier, a sadistic German nutritionist whose inhumane methods include fasting and corporal punishment. Birkermaier has Fantozzi watch him have dinner, but Fantozzi eventually gives in to Birkermaier's teasing and stuffs himself with the food on the table, uncaring of the punishment that awaits him.

On February 10, 2010, many more areas of Canada (barring extremely northern and rural areas) were added. Of note, ski runs on Whistler Blackcomb Resort is also covered in this update. As of 2013, the northernmost community imaged is the Arctic island community of Cambridge Bay, Nunavut. As of April 2014, the only Canadian urban areas whose images have not been uploaded are the urban areas within the Labrador region of Newfoundland and Labrador.

It is mainly used for special events such as races and parties. Mont Ripley also purchased eight more snow making guns to add to their capability to get all the runs open earlier in the season. Also in 2006, a second chair lift, dubbed the "Copper Hoist", was purchased and was built on the east side of the hill in 2007, making it easier for skiers and snowboarders to use those runs, raising the lift count to three (2 chair lifts and one t-bar). A flood on June 17, 2018, significantly damaged the two easternmost ski runs on the hill (Powderstash and Deer Track Trail).

This alleviates the need to pull water from the Poplar River, a designated trout stream. Within the next ten to fifteen years , Lutsen has put forward plans to expand its pedestrian village & skier services, as well as add additional skier services and base facilities on Eagle and Moose Mountains. Current plans outline a 150-acre expansion, effectively doubling the current skiing acreage, with five or more new chairlifts and several dozen new ski runs. This expansion plan would mark the first attempt by a private ski resort in Minnesota to expand on to public lands, namely the Superior National Forest and is therefore locally controversial.

In 1936 the town of Arpin gave the land at the top of the bluff to Wood County, which developed it as a park. The ski runs on the north side of the bluff opened in 1948 and the warming house in 1950. View from the west In 1999 the county planned to expand the ski hill, but Indians objected that it would mean cutting grave marker trees and disturbing burials. A ski zone in Bansko The favourable natural conditions for winter sports, spa and recreation combined with the architectural heritage make Pirin a popular tourist destination. Bansko is by far the most developed winter resort in the mountain range, being also Bulgaria's most popular one for foreigners — over 79,000 foreign tourists have stayed in Bansko for the 2016/17 winter season spending an average of four nights. Bansko has 75 km ski runs equipped with artificial snow machines as well as 22 km lifting facilities and provides conditions for alpine skiing, cross-country skiing, biathlon, snowboard, etc. The top elevation is 2560 m while the lowest is 990 m.

A.C.T., was built by the Canberra Alpine Club in the 1930s The most northerly ski fields in Australia are located in the A.C.T. - in the Brindabella Ranges which rise to the west of Canberra, the capital city of Australia, and include the Namadgi National Park in the A.C.T. and Bimberi Nature Reserve and Brindabella National Park in New South Wales. The highest mountain in the ACT is Bimberi Peak, which lies above the treeline at 1912 metres, at the northern edge of the Snowy Mountains. A ski chalet was constructed at Mount Franklin in 1938 to service the Canberra Alpine Club. Ski runs were cleared and ski tows were improvised.

Skiing in the mountains of Bsharri In summer 2005, The Cedars resort installed 3 new chairlifts to replace the old T-bars and extend the ski runs. 15 million US Dollars have lately been invested to upgrade the facilities and expand the resort to higher standard of in terms of accommodation, equipment, safety, and services. A Gondola for 6 persons will carry skiers and visitors from the parking level at to the highest accessible summit of , however, there is no indication yet of when will this be completed. To comply with international regulations, a Refuge with a capacity of 400 persons will also be built at the top of the Gondola.

With the closure of the station, demolition of the base chateau and removal of the ski lifts, the area remains a public park with accessible ski runs but no lifts or services. At the end of the station operating history, it was composed of a base chateau, four ski lifts, three T-bars and a magic carpet, five pistes, two green (runs 40, 60), a blue (run 80), a black diamond (run 100), and a glade double black diamond (run 120 or "Bois joli"). It had a vertical and the longest run was . At one time, it was the cheapest lift ticket in the Laurentians.

Camp Darrington was primarily used to fight wildfires and develop infrastructure in the Darrington district of the Mount Baker National Forest, including roads, trails, and a series of fire lookout towers atop nearby mountains. Among its projects was the Mountain Loop Highway, which provided connections between ranger stations in Darrington and Granite Falls and also opened up the Cascades backcountry to logging and recreation. The camp employed the first wave of Appalachian emigrants from North Carolina, who would eventually form a majority of the town's population. Before chairlifts were installed at Sun Valley, Idaho in 1936, skiers had relied on tows powered by horses or water wheels. In the early 1930s, the Canadian Alex Foster designed a towing device powered by an automobile engine. Tow ropes and bars could be dangerous, and many skiers found them unpleasant - especially on longer or steeper runs. Curran's chairlift raised skiers off the ground allowing them to rest and gain an enjoyable view of mountains, ski-runs, and resorts. “People were marveling over how well the chairlifts worked,” and it "hit the sweet spot of cost and comfort," said Kirby Gilbert, a ski historian.

The Mont Blanc Tramway takes tourists and hikers from Saint-Gervais to the Nid d'Aigle, near the Glacier de Bionnassay. It also provides mountaineers with ready access to the first stage of the Goûter Route for an attempt on the most popular route to the summit of Mont Blanc. From Les Houches, one of two cable cars links to Bellevue plateau (), giving access to walking paths, mountain bike trails and winter ski-runs as well as to a halt on the Mont Blanc Tramway, A second links the town to the adjacent Prarion plateau (). Heli- skiing gives ready access to many remote or off-piste ski routes in the Mont Blanc massif.

Verbier forms the western section of the 4 Valleys ski area. A 4 Valley pass allows a tour all the way from Verbier to La Tzoumaz, Nendaz, Veysonnaz, Les Masses, Thyon and back. The Verbier section of the 4 Valleys ski area has recent lifts made by Leitner, CWA, Poma and Garaventa AG, all operated by Téléverbier SA. In Verbier alone, there are 35 lifts (within the Verbier, Savoleyeres/La Tzoumaz and Bruson sector). A standard Verbier pass gives access to this entire sector, 33 standard ski runs, two snowparks, one "Jardin de Neige" (a relatively flat area that is used for small children learning to ski), four cross-country pistes and two walking areas.

Rigaud Mountain The main attraction is Mont-Rigaud, a hill with downhill ski runs (at Ski Mont Rigaud), a private school (Collège Bourget), a monastery, and a shrine dedicated to the Virgin Mary (Sanctuaire Notre-Dame-de-Lourdes). The mountain is also home to an unusual, natural rock garden known as the "champs de patates", so named because of the local legend that it was once a potato field, turned to stone by God because the farmer worked on Sunday. The middle to upper-middle class community features large, mostly secluded building lots in a wooded setting that draws residents because of its isolated tranquility and privacy.

It began operation in 1961 opened by Dwight and Jean Miller with a blue Pomagalski (now Poma of America) double chair with shield. In 1967 a platter lift was installed, yielding better access to the north ski runs and giving first-time skiers an easier way to access the slopes. At the base of Ski Idlewild was which was Idlewild Guest Ranch, a hotel built three years before the ski area opened.

South Pole Medal He was one of the first five people to reach the South Pole on 14 December 1911, along with Roald Amundsen, Olav Bjaaland, Oscar Wisting, and Sverre Hassel. During their stay at the South Pole, it is estimated that Hanssen passed within 200 yards (180 meters) of the mathematical South Pole point. This was during one of his ski runs which Amundsen had ordered be performed to completely encircle or "box" the pole, to ensure that there was no doubt that the expedition had attained the pole. For his participation in the expedition, he was awarded the South Pole Medal (Sydpolsmedaljen), the Royal Norwegian award instituted by King Haakon VII in 1912 to reward participants in Roald Amundsen's South Pole expedition.

Renamed Powder King Ski Village, the proposal included 14 more ski runs (five existed), a 1,400-metre triple chairlift, a 1,000-metre T-Bar and a 230-metre platter lift for beginners.

Aleko Chalet, Vitosha Mountain Aleko () is a site on Vitosha Mountain in Bulgaria situated at the northern foothills of Malak Rezen Peak (2191 m), in the watershed of Yanchevska River draining eastwards towards the village of Bistritsa, Sofia. Aleko is the principal tourist and winter sports centre on Vitosha, offering accommodation at Aleko Chalet (1820 m) and few hotels, and several chairlifts, surface lifts and ski runs, cafeterias and restaurants, and ski and snowboard schools. The oldest and most popular ski run is Stenata (‘The Wall’), while the longest and most difficult one is ‘Vitoshko Lale’ originally built for the 1983 Winter Universiade held on Vitosha. Nowadays Aleko is among Bulgaria's top ski resorts together with Bansko in Pirin Mountain, Borovets in Rila Mountain, and Pamporovo in Rhodope Mountains.

A new day lodge at the base of Dollar was built and completed in the fall of 2004 and is comparable in spaciousness and style (massive timber, river rock, & glass) to the day lodges at Bald Mountain.
