Sacred Harp singing normally occurs not in church services, but in special gatherings or "singings" arranged for the purpose. Singings can be local, regional, statewide, or national. Small singings are often held in homes, with perhaps only a dozen singers. Large singings have been known to have more than a thousand participants.

In 1933, George Pullen Jackson reported on Christian Harmony singings in four states: South Carolina (in and around Spartanburg and in York, Union, and Greenville counties), North Carolina (Rutherford and Buncombe counties), southern Missouri (a tradition of singings stretching back to 1889), and Alabama (56 singings in 1932 in "nine mid-state counties"). The publisher, the E.W. Miller Company of Philadelphia, reported sales largely limited to the Spartanburg area at that time. Online minutes record 43 singings from The Christian Harmony in 2010 (12 in North Carolina, nine in Alabama, six in Georgia, six in Virginia, five in South Carolina, three in Tennessee, one in Mississippi, and one in Texas) and 23 singings in 2011 (11 in North Carolina, three in South Carolina, three in Tennessee, three in Georgia, two in Alabama, and one in Arkansas). Camp DoReMi, a summer singing school in Little Switzerland, North Carolina, is held annually and uses both The Christian Harmony and the New Harp of Columbia.

"Camp Fasola Camp Lee, Anniston, Alabama" in Minutes of Sacred Harp Singings DeLong was frequently seen at singing conventions. He taught singing schools in 28 states, plus D.C. and participated in singings in 38 states. His own singing voice, familiar to many singers, was a robust and powerful tenor. He dedicated his life to collecting over 1500 hours of recordings from several collections.

Recently groups have started up in Amsterdam, Paris and Clermont-Ferrand Oslo, Norway, and Uppsala, Sweden. Both the Swedish and Norwegian groups have arranged All Day Singings, the 5th Oslo All-Day Singing will be arranged 1 June.-2. 2019 (singing school starting Friday evening). Regular singings are also taking place in Israel, and in April, 2016, an all-day singing was held in Paris, France.

Since 1959, this program has featured recorded (occasionally live) singing, along with announcements of current and upcoming singings. A CD of some of these performances was issued in 2006.

In 1975, Dr. Bell Yung of the University of Pittsburgh recorded Dou Wun's naamyam singings at Fu Long teahouse in Hong Kong, leaving 40 hours of live recordings and valuable photographs.

In the most recent development, Sacred Harp singing has expanded beyond the limits of English-speaking countries to mainland Europe. In 2008 a singing community was established in Poland (which hosted the first Camp Fasola Europe in September 2012). In Germany there are regular weekly or monthly singings in Bremen, Hamburg, Berlin, Cologne and Munich, most of them with their own annual All-Day singings. Elsewhere in Germany, singers meet irregularly in Frankfurt, Gießen and Nürnberg.

Canada has a decades-long tradition of Sacred Harp singing, particularly in Southern Ontario and the Eastern Townships of Quebec. Singings have been organized weekly in Montreal, Quebec since 2011, as well as a monthly afternoon sing, and the first Montreal all-day sing took place in the spring of 2016. Sacred Harp singing has happened on a monthly basis for years in Toronto. Australia has had Sacred Harp singing since 2001, and singings are held regularly in Melbourne, Sydney, Canberra and Blackwood.

The more ambitious singings include an ample potluck dinner in the middle of the day, traditionally called "dinner on the grounds." Some of the largest and oldest annual singings are called "conventions". The oldest Sacred Harp convention was the Southern Musical Convention, organized in Upson County, Georgia in 1845. The two oldest surviving Sacred Harp singing conventions are the Chattahoochee Musical Convention (organized in Coweta County, Georgia in 1852), and the East Texas Sacred Harp Convention (organized as the East Texas Musical Convention in 1855).

According to the Mennonite Encyclopedia this "music textbook ... has reached a total issue of nearly 100,000 copies." The book is still is in use by Mennonites today. Most singings are held in the Dayton-Harrisonburg area of Virginia.

The seven-shape system is also still used at regular public singings of 19th-century songbooks of a similar type to the Sacred Harp, such as The Christian Harmony and the New Harp of Columbia. The pioneer of coal mining at Ferndale was David Davis of Blaengwawr, Aberdare who already had an extensive colliery business in the neighbouring Aberdare Valley. His wealth enabled him to engage in costly but unsuccessful singings in the Rhondda Fach in the 1860s until he finally struck a good seam at Ferndale.

John Quincy Wolf Jr. (1901–1972) was an American folklorist and college professor. He created the John Quincy Wolf Folklore Collection including Sacred Harp singings and Memphis Blues. He transcribed and did field recordings in the Ozarks, "discovering" several notable musicians including Almeda Riddle, Ollie Gilbert, and Jimmy Driftwood. He also recorded Bukka White, Gus Cannon, and Furry Lewis.

The annual Dyer Station Celebration is held during the week of the Fourth of July each year. The celebration was started with the hard work of Johnny McIlwain to honor the memory of his aunt, Mrs. Georgia Ellis, Dyer's first female alderman. On the fourth Sunday of each May, The Big Singing, an all- day sing-along program of Southern Harmony shape note gospel music is held at the county courthouse. The Big Singing, begun in 1884, has a special claim to fame: in 1933 George Pullen Jackson drew attention to the fact that this is the only regular event that sings from William Walker's Southern Harmony;"As early as 1933 G. P. Jackson noted that Benton held the only regular Southern Harmony singing in existence." this remains a living tradition to the present day.A widely-used directory of annual Shape Note singings lists three other singings that use Southern Harmony together with other tunebooks, but the Benton Big Singing is the only singing that uses the Southern Harmony exclusively. Campus-Wide devotionals are held every Monday and Thursday nights at 10:30 pm. Gazebo singings were organized every Sunday night at 10:00 pm in the gazebo on Main Street. (the Gazebo was moved to the local park in the Spring of 2012) Every other Wednesday Night at 10:00 pm, students meet in Clayton Chapel for Clayton Chapel Singing.

Ryan started his career at Berkhamsted Town. He was one of Martin O'Neill's first singings for Wycombe Wanderers in August 1990. "Rhino", as he is nicknamed, played in over 500 games for the club and scored more than 50 goals. In more recent times Sacred Harp singing has spread beyond the borders of the United States. The United Kingdom has had an active Sacred Harp community since the 1990s. The first UK Sacred Harp convention took place in 1996. There are regular singings in London, the Home Counties, the Midlands, Yorkshire, Lancashire, Manchester, Brighton, Newcastle, Durham, southwest England, Bristol, as well as in Scotland.

The only compilation of his poetry, Spevy a piesne ("Singings and songs"), was published in Pressburg that year. On 11 May 1854, he gave a speech at the unveiling of the Ján Hollý monument in Dobrá Voda (Ján Hollý having died in 1849). Štúr had also written a poem in his honour. Alabama is the leading state for Sacred Harp singing. More annual singings are held in Alabama than in any other state. The Sacred Harp: Revised Cooper Edition, a version of The Sacred Harp used across the southern parts of Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, and Texas, is published by the Sacred Harp Book Company of Samson, Alabama. Although a few Amish learn to play traditional instruments such as the harmonica or the accordion, instruments are not played in public. Thus, singing is usually unaccompanied. "Sings" or "Singings", are attended by young people approaching marriage-age. They are usually held in barns on a Sunday evening after a worship service and are an essential element in Amish courting practices as the young participants are encouraged to engage in social discourse between songs.

Presley's earliest musical influence came from gospel. His mother recalled that from the age of two, at the Assembly of God church in Tupelo attended by the family, "he would slide down off my lap, run into the aisle and scramble up to the platform. There he would stand looking at the choir and trying to sing with them." In Memphis, Presley frequently attended all-night gospel singings at the Ellis Auditorium, where groups such as the Statesmen Quartet led the music in a style that, Guralnick suggests, sowed the seeds of Presley's future stage act: As a teenager, Presley's musical interests were wide-ranging, and he was deeply informed about both white and African-American musical idioms.

They remained there until sometime in the 1880s – they are listed as residents there in the 1880 census – but by 1886 had moved to Oakwood, Texas; there she died and was buried in the town cemetery. Lancaster continued to send music home after her move, and would inquire in letters to family about "the singings" she had left behind. Bealle notesBealle 1997, pp. 194-196 that during the mid to late 1970s, McGraw repeatedly urged newcomer singers to adopt the traditional forms of the Southern singing convention, including the hollow square seating arrangement, rotating leading of songs, singing of the note names before the stanzas, dinner on the grounds, and public prayer. McGraw's efforts were successful,The adherence of outside-the- South singings to traditional practice can be seen in the compiled annual Minutes of Sacred Harp singing conventions, posted on line at . and with time Sacred Harp singing outside the South evolved from a kind of artificially- cultivated folk music performance into a more natural and spontaneous experience, in which procedure and performance practice are determined by well-established custom.

But there are many other traditions that are still active or even enjoying a resurgence of interest. Among the four-shape systems, the Southern Harmony has remained in continuous use at one singing in Benton, Kentucky, and is now experiencing a small amount of regrowth. The current reawakening of interest in shape note singing has also created new singings using other recently moribund 19th- century four-shape songbooks, such as The Missouri Harmony, as well as new books by modern composers, such as the Northern Harmony. Of a hybrid nature, in terms of reviving Ananias Davisson's Kentucky Harmony but taking the further step of incorporating songs from 70 other early tunebooks, along with new compositions, is the Shenandoah Harmony (2013).

Although seven-shape books may not be as popular as in the past, there are still a great number of churches in the American South, in particular Southern Baptists, Primitive Baptists, almost all of the non- instrumental Churches of Christ, some Free Methodists, United Pentecostals, and United Baptists in the Appalachian regions of West Virginia, Ohio and Kentucky, that regularly use seven-shape songbooks in Sunday worship. These songbooks may contain a variety of songs from 18th-century classics to 20th- century gospel music. Thus today denominational songbooks printed in seven shapes probably constitute the largest branch of the shape-note tradition. In addition, nondenominational community singings are also intermittently held which feature early- to mid-20th century seven-shape gospel music such as Stamps-Baxter hymnals or Heavenly Highway.

According to the Handbook of Texas, "The first Texas community singing using the seven shape note tradition reportedly occurred in the latter part of December 1879. Itinerant teachers representing the A. J. Showalter Company of Dalton, Georgia – including company founder A. J. Showalter – ventured west to Giddings in East Texas and conducted a rural music school that lasted for several weeks." Texas has been home to several gospel music convention publishers, including the National Music Company, Stamps-Baxter Music and Printing Company (founded in 1924 by V. O. Stamps, who later partnered with J. R. Baxter), and the Stamps Quartet Music Company (founded by Frank Stamps). Convention gospel music and community singings still occur in a number of Texas towns, including Mineral Wells, Brownfield, Jacksonville, Seymour, and Stephenville.

Retrieved 10 June 2011 From 1993 to 1998, Fei hosted and produced the Taiwan Television prime time variety show The Fantastic Brothers (龍兄虎弟) with his brother Chang Fei, and was famed for his witty dirty jokes, improvised singings and celebrity impersonations, for which he was nicknamed the "myna bird". In 2006, he was featured in a duet,「」(Faraway) with Jay Chou released in his album Still Fantasy. In February 2008, he performed it during CCTV-4's Chinese New Year special, singing a solo version of 「」 (Faraway), which was also performed by Chou later in the program. Chang announced his retirement from the entertainment industry in September 2018, stating that his final concert tour was scheduled for February, March and May 2019 in Macau, Shanghai, Singapore, and Taipei.

Originally begun in 1953, the event has grown into one of the largest festivals in Oklahoma, attracting in excess of 70,000 attendees coming from all over the United States. Many attendees are also tribal members of the "Five Civilized Tribes" (the Cherokee, and also the Chickasaws, the Choctaws, Creeks, and Seminoles). Others who routinely attend the event are the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians located in western North Carolina and also the United Keetowah Band which, like the Cherokee Nation, are headquartered in Tahlequah. The holiday hosts many different cultural and artistic events such as a two- night intertribal pow wow, stickball, Cherokee marbles, horseshoes and cornstalk shoot tournaments, softball tournaments, rodeos, car and art shows, gospel singings, the annual Miss Cherokee pageant, the Cherokee National Holiday parade, and the annual "State of the Nation" address by the Principal Chief of the Cherokee Nation.

Souness decided to break Newcastle's transfer record to sign Michael Owen, who had spent the previous season with Real Madrid.
