A New Zealand tour was followed during July and August 2008 playing with the likes of: Patrik Fitzgerald, who has recorded and produced two of his debut album songs; Robert Scott member of: The Bats and The Clean and with Chris Knox, who was in Toy Love and Tall Dwarfs. He secured a slot to open for Simon Finn in Madrid and has played over 80 shows in one single year. Tours around Europe by the end of 2008 and early 2009 were accomplished, playing in France, Luxembourg and Germany. He played at the Antifolk Festival in NY at the Sidewalk Café.

Benjamin Forgey, architectural critic for The Washington Post, called the hotel's design urbane and a "strong" corner building. He was pleased with the transition between interior and exterior, and the cutaway corner that created a sidewalk café. He was particularly impressed with the way the building's facade materials worked with and played off The Grand Hotel building to the south, and enjoyed the creative exterior details (such as the wide expanses of glass and the metal pinnacle atop the building). George Cole and his group Vive Le Jazz have been touring nationally, most recently playing at Carnegie Hall in 2008. His gypsy jazz inspired music was chosen for a Grammy's showcase.

In early 2005, keyboardist Dan Chen, whom Atkins knew from her days at The Sidewalk Café, approached Atkins about forming a new group. The band, now known as Nicole Atkins & The Sea, was given a residency at the small showcase bar, Piano's, and won the attention of music industry attorney Gillian Bar. She soon found herself in the midst of a bidding war between record labels and signed with Columbia Records in January 2006. In late 2006, Atkins and the Sea traveled to Sweden to record her debut album, Neptune City,"Nicole Atkins: Homeward Bound", "CMJ", Accessed January 18, 2008 at Varispeed Studios in Kalgerup and Gula Studion in Malmö with producer Tore Johansson. The album was originally scheduled for a July 2007 release, but at the behest of Columbia co-chairman Rick Rubin,"Atkins & The Sea release CD", "Asbury Park Press", November 11, 2007.

The Ship Museum, an attraction to emphasize the historic relationship between the city and the river; projected to include floating ship exhibits, was scaled back to the current Jacksonville Maritime Museum, now closed. Multiple projects did not come to fruition. The Grove, a raised grass seating area shaded by a grove of palm trees; The Pyramid, an outdoor structure with terraced seating area for special events; An Aquarium located south of the maritime museum, facing Friendship Fountain, which would showcase local freshwater and saltwater marine life; A Great Lawn for recreation and relaxation; A sidewalk café under the bridge that would link both sides of riverwalk; A 3,000-seat open-air amphitheater with bandstand and theatrical lighting, built out into the river that would be used for public concerts, ballets, festivals and school graduations.
