Ember's first novel, The Seafarer's Kiss, first in the Seafarer Duology, is a Norse retelling of The Little Mermaid, about a rebellious bisexual mermaid Ersel who falls for the shieldmaiden Ragna and makes a deal with the trickster god Loki to escape her fate as the bride of a merman she doesn't love. It was published in 2017 by Duet Books. The Seafarer's Kiss was a finalist for the 2017 Bisexual Book Award in the category Speculative Fiction. The companion novel, The Navigator's Touch, is a Norse retelling of Peter Pan and tells the story of the shieldmaiden Ragna, who is on a quest to avenger her destroyed home, with the help of a motley group of mercenaries and her mermaid girlfriend Ersel.

This second saga introduces Thornbjörg, the daughter of King Eirík and Queen Ingigerd, who was a skillful shieldmaiden and ruled over part of the kingdom. Thornbjörg even called herself King Thorberg. But eventually she fell in love with Hrólf son of Gautrek and agreed to marry him, at which point she gave up her weapons to her father King Eirík and took up embroidery.

In the Völsunga saga, Sigurd rides through a ring of fire to awaken the shieldmaiden Brynhild (), and later dies in a fight with Odin (). Sigurd is also known as the dragon-slayer Siegfried in the German poem The Song of the Nibelungs. The approved naming citation was published by the Minor Planet Center on 23 May 2000 ().

Heidrek was the son of king Höfund and his wife Hervor, a shieldmaiden. Like his mother in her youth, he was ill-natured and violent. To amend this, he was raised by the wise Geatish king Gizur, but this did not improve his disposition. One day, when his parents were having a banquet, Heidrek arrived uninvited and late at night, he started a quarrel which ended in manslaughter.

When king Rollaug was about to burn Heidrek alive, someone broke the news that the prince was still alive and that Heidrek was innocent. Rollaug apologized and in recompense for Heidrek's losses he gave him his own daughter, Hergerd. Heidrek and Hergerd had a daughter who was named Hervor, the shieldmaiden, after her grandmother who had just died.

Herraud, the primary hero of the saga, is the son of Hring and his wife Sylgja. But Hring also has an illegitimate son named Sjód (Sjóðr), who serves as Hring's treasurer and tax collector and from whose name, according to the saga, the word sjóðr ("purse") derives. Hervör wakes her father Angantýr's ghost from his barrow to demand the cursed sword Tyrfing. Hervararkviða, (published in English translation as The Waking of Angantyr, or The Incantation of Hervor) is an Old Norse poem from the Hervarar saga, and which is sometimes included in editions of the Poetic Edda. Svea is a Swedish female personal name which derives from svea, an old plural genitive form meaning "of the Swedes" or the Swea. They were all slain at Samsø, by the Swedish champion Hjalmar, and his Norwegian sworn brother Orvar-Odd; but Hjalmar, being wounded by Tyrfing (its first evil deed), has only time to sing his death-song before he dies, and asks Orvar-Odd to bring his body to his beloved Ingeborg, daughter of Yngvi at Uppsala. Angantyr's daughter, Hervor (by his wife Tófa) was brought up as a bond-servant and remained ignorant of her parentage. Upon learning it, she armed herself as a shieldmaiden, and travelled to Munarvoe in Samsø in an attempt to recover her father's weapon.

Webiorg, Wigbiorg or Veborg (died 750), was a legendary Scandinavian shieldmaiden who, according to the sagas, participated in the Battle of Bråvalla, which occurred in Sweden in approximately 750. She was of Swedish or Danish origin. The battle was between King Harald Hildetand of Denmark and Sweden, and his Viceroy King Sigurd Hring of Sweden; Sweden was during this age several little kingdoms, but Harald Hildetand had been elected king over most of them. King Sigurd had plans to unite all these kingdoms under one crown permanently, while king Harald wished to keep the possibility of electing different kings to each one, and the battle was therefore between unionists and separatists.

Galeotti was a leading innovator of ballet in Scandinavia. He was instrumental in introducing the Ballet d'action to Danmark and created the first ballet with a Nordic subject (Lagertha, 1801, based on the legendary Viking shieldmaiden), as well as the first choreographies inspired by William Shakespeare (Romeo and Juliet, 1811, and Macbeth, 1816), with music written by Claus Schall. The Metanoids are planning to conquer the known universe and have built a fleet of sophisticated warships, the likes of which have never been seen before.
