Percival begins to oppress the colonists, sparking off riots, whilst Sam and Fuller read Leary's report which explain that the expedition woke an ancient evil which was dormant in the mountains. Later Fuller reveals that he is a shape shifter which has killed the real Fuller. However Sam escapes when a Proximan attacks the creature.

A homeless black man was soon found living near Nekkerspoel and without trial was lynched and skinned alive.

John Stewart was at first hesitant about the relationship, but he eventually came to love Fatality, but it turned out that it had been the impostor at that point. In the final battle of the "Uprising", the impostor revealed itself as Verrat Din, an eons-old Durlan, and destroyed Fatality's Star Sapphire ring, having no use for it after gaining the power of a Daxamite. Though Stewart defeated the powerful threat, he was shaken by having been misled for so long, and having been intimate with a Durlan shape-shifter. Stewart immediately set out to find the real Fatality, and when he did, he was astonished to discover that she had reverted to hating him.

When he first appeared in The Shape Shifter (DWM #88-#89), written by Steve Parkhouse with art by John Ridgway, Frobisher was a private investigator calling himself "Avan Tarklu" (a play on the phrase "Haven't a clue"). He came across the Doctor when an enemy of the Time Lord, Josiah Dogbolter, had placed a bounty on the Doctor in an effort to acquire his secrets and his TARDIS. After infiltrating the TARDIS, instead of turning the Doctor in for the money, Tarklu decided that he liked the Time Lord and helped him against Dogbolter; both split the advance bounty Tarklu had been given from Dogbolter. He then joined the Doctor on his journeys.

Anyanwu is the Wild Seed's black female protagonist that is born in an Igbo (or Ibo as Doro says) village in Africa with genetic mutations that endow her with immortality and physical strength. She also possesses a preternatural ability to heal the sick and injured, including herself. Anyanwu is a "shape-shifter," someone who is capable of altering her cells to create a new identity such as a different body, sex, age, or even species− metamorphoses she calls upon when needed to assure her survival. She is viewed as a sort of mythical being living at the outskirts of a village of her people (including her many children) when Doro comes to her.

There is, however, general agreement that the second part, dealing almost exclusively with Arthur's many wars, tends toward monotony through want of differentiation between his many battles. J. A. W. Bennett and Douglas Gray found the main interest of the poem to lie in the character of "Merlin, the mystery man. By turns shape-shifter, strategist, master of statecraft...his disguises are always intriguing, his appearances always dramatic".

Bloodkin is the second novel in the Maeve’ra Trilogy and was released on April 14, 2015. The book follows 16-year-old Kadee Obsidian, a serpiente shape-shifter who has spent time with both the Serpiente and the Shantel after being taken from her human family as a sick child. Kadee and Vance, a quetzal shapeshifter who was first introduced in Bloodwitch, journey to the Shantel forest after learning that the Shantel are being held to account for the blood plague that infected Vance and others in Midnight. Among the Shantel with Vance, Kadee faces her and her guild's past, where her ideas of freedom and her knowledge of sins committed clash.

In 1981, X-Men writer Chris Claremont intended the character Destiny to be the lover of Brotherhood of Mutants teammate Mystique, a shape shifter, and had originally intended for Destiny and Mystique to be Nightcrawler's biological parents, with Mystique taking the form of a man for the conception; however, Marvel editors did not allow gay or bisexual characters at that time. In 2007, the series Wolverine: Origins introduced a son for popular superhero Wolverine in the form of Daken, his psychopathic bisexual son. In 2010, it was commented on by a writer for the character that for him all sexual conquest is about "control"; Daken regularly seduces male and females to suit his own ends. In 2009, Peter David outed X-Men and X-Factor characters Rictor and Shatterstar as both bisexual, in a portrayal of their on-panel kiss.

The role of Kenny, the youngest TP, was given to Stephen Salmon after he had been discovered in a drama workshop while theatre actor Philip Gilbert was selected to provide the paternal tones of biotronic computer TIM. Making up the team were two Sap friends, a couple of bikers called Ginge (Michael Standing) and Lefty (Derek Crewe) who encounter the Tomorrow People when acting as henchmen for the villainous shape-shifter Jedikiah in the opening adventure. Stephen would be very much the show's hero and focus for the audience while John was something of an authoritarian figure who took his responsibilities for the species' future and welfare very seriously. Young was the only TP to be in every single episode and the actor was able to have some say in the production of later seasons as he was considered as an unofficial producer.

In her essay "Last Night We Had an Omen", Leslie Jones noted this thematic leitmotif in several of their other X-Files scripts: "the meek animal-control inspector who is a mutant shape-shifter with a taste for human liver ["Squeeze"], the hapless residents of rural Pennsylvania driven mad by a combination of insecticides and electronic equipment ["Blood"], [and] the uptight PTA run by practicing Satanists ["Die Hand Die Verletzt"]". Anne Simon, a biology professor at the University of Maryland, discussed the episode in her book Monsters, Mutants and Missing Links: The Real Science Behind the X-Files. Simon noted that like the worms in "Ice", parasitic worms can attach to the human hypothalamus because it is not blocked by the blood–brain barrier. She compared "Ice" to the later episodes "Tunguska" and "Gethsemane", with their common theme of extraterrestrial life reaching earth through panspermia.

Jason is held prisoner by one of the guards, but Jason kills him when the guard insults Sookie. When Sookie arrives back in Bon Temps with Jason they are greeted by vandals in the streets that jumped in front of their vehicle and ran off to Maryanne's place (actually Sookie's home) then Jason joins up with Andy to help Sam which is why Maryanne came to Bon Temps but as Jason and Andy were trying to help Sam they were also put under the spell the rest of Bon Temps was under. Sam had met Maryanne when he was still a teenager that had broken into her home to steal food or anything he could sell to buy food and clothes as he was young and naïve he did not know that when meeting Maryanne that she was dangerous. Now Maryanne realized that with Sam being a shape shifter he was to be her sacrifice to a god to be given a husband.

In 2012, Miko appeared opposite Danny Huston and Sienna Miller in the period drama Two Jacks, directed by Bernard Rose, and in the South Korean dance film Make Your Move in 2013. Miko appeared in Billy Idol's music video for "Can't Break Me Down", and also had a supporting role in Step Up: All In, both in 2014. Also in 2014, she had a small role in the TV show Supernatural, episode "Ask Jeeves" of season 10, where she portrays a shape shifter working for a rich heiress who has died. In 2015, Miko co-produced the biographical film Desert Dancer, which tells the story of Iranian choreographer Afshin Ghaffarian.

It turns out Emmet maintains his livelihood and is unaffected by the aftermath of the Duplo invasion unlike everyone else in Bricksburg (now called "Apocalypseburg"). Emmet also wants have a bright future with Lucy, but Lucy disagrees due to the fact that everything is rather bleak than awesome. After Lucy and his friends are abducted by General Sweet Mayhem of the Systar System galaxy, under the orders of shape-shifter Queen Watevra Wa'Nabi, he meets Rex Dangervest, a galaxy-defending (referencing Star-Lord from Guardians of the Galaxy) archaeologist, cowboy (referencing Josh Faraday from The Magnificent Seven), and raptor trainer (referencing Owen Grady from Jurassic World), who is later revealed to be Emmet's future self as a time-traveler. After he destroys the cake wedding of Wa'Nabi and Batman, Emmet realizes the real intentions of Rex Dangervest and Rex knocks him under the same dryer to ensure his existence, but Lucy rallies the others into escaping from the storage bin (bringing them back into the LEGO world) and rescues him from Rex.
