Antioch College was also the first to offer courses in the methods of teaching, by College professor Rebecca Pennell- one of the College's ten original faculty members, and the first female college professor in the United States to have the same rank and pay as her male colleagues. Sustainable procurement outside of the United Nations is happening everywhere, in the international community, in states and local authorities, in the private sector and in the civil society. Sustainable procurement is as applicable to the private sector as the public sector, and certainly its proponents aspire to see its application across all areas of the economy due to a vast amount of material available on the internet for organizations and companies wishing to improve their sustainability performance. Acquisition of goods and services may account for over 50% of the company's expenses, and may exceed 80% in sectors such as in retailing, electronic and automotive industries - with all this purchasing power, the private sector has a great ability to influence markets. Influencing procurement practice within a private-sector firm is not straightforward for governments, meaning that the companies themselves often have to be self- motivated to embrace sustainability.

Empowerment of employees requires a culture of trust in the organization and an appropriate information and communication system. The aim of these activities is to save control costs, that become redundant when employees act independently and in a self-motivated fashion. In the book Empowerment Takes More Than a Minute, the authors illustrate three keys that organizations can use to open the knowledge, experience, and motivation power that people already have. The three keys that managers must use to empower their employees are: # Share information with everyone # Create autonomy through boundaries # Replace the old hierarchy with self-directed work teams According to Stewart, in order to guarantee a successful work environment, managers need to exercise the "right kind of authority" (p. 6). To summarize, "empowerment is simply the effective use of a manager’s authority", and subsequently, it is a productive way to maximize all-around work efficiency.

While she served in that capacity, she doubled as a board member of the World Health Organization (WHO) MENTOR-VIP core group. Mariam has served in the public sector for over twelve years, starting as the Senior Special Assistant to the 13th Governor of Lagos State on Transport Education, where she worked on transport sector reform through human capacity development. She held the position for two consecutive terms (2007 - 2015). As SSA Transport Education, she was charged with the responsibility of establishing the Lagos State Law Enforcement Institute (LETI) in 2013; an agency established with a mission to produce well-trained law enforcement officers including but not limited to LASTMA, KAI, Neigbhourhood Watch and Vehicle Inspection Service (VIS) officers, who are self-motivated, interdependent, community-oriented, critical – thinkers and problem solvers; thoroughly indoctrinated in the ethics, professional standards and tactical proficiency of the law enforcement profession through the development of professional standards and delivery of quality training.

In Dr. Li Chu-Tsing Li's article “Chan Sheng-Yao – An Artist Very Different From The Others” (2000), he discusses the historical trajectory of Master Shen- Long's art. For instance, if subordinates in a work group perceive their leader to be prototypical of them, then transformational leadership would have less of an impact on their willingness to engage in organizational citizenship behaviors. Likewise, if subordinates are goal oriented and possess a traditional view of the organizational hierarchy, they tend to be less affected by transformational leadership. Self-motivated employees are less likely to need transformational leaders to prod them into action, while “traditionalists” tend to see positive organizational citizenship as something expected given their roles as followers—not something they need to be “inspired” to do. Evidence suggests that the above sets of factors act, in essence, as both inhibitors of and substitutes for transformational leadership. As inhibitors, the presence of any of these factors—either independently or especially collectively—could make the presence of a transformational leader “redundant” since followers’ positive behavior would instead be sparked by their own motivations or perceptions.

Thus, Teach 2 Learn was born with the mission of helping younger students find career-applicable and academic passions so that, by the time they got to high school, they would not only have a clear vision for their future career path, but be self-motivated to dedicate time to developing their skills in that area rather than exclusively working away at aspects of school that would be unsustainable alone. Prior to 2020, Teach 2 Learn remained confined to the founders personally designing and conducting more loosely formatted workshops in STEM research, computer science, speech and debate, and Destination Imagination at a few CISD schools, with volunteers serving as helping hands on a per-workshop basis. However, in the summer of 2020, they expanded their force of full-time mentors to more than 20, with different mentors specifically assigned to develop the curriculum and teach for a specific workshop series. In July and August of 2020, Teach 2 Learn held summer workshops online via Discord, an online communication platform, with about 250 total students attending over a 5 week time span.

The curriculum is similar for MMNs, EMNs, and ETNs, except that each rating focuses more on their particular nuclear system design (for nuclear ETNs this means that they have additional training in nuclear electronics design). In the third and final stage of training in the Navy Nuclear Pipeline, ETNs are trained for six months at one of four Navy nuclear prototype training units (NPTUs). Two NPTUs are moored training ships (MTS) using S5W reactors located at the Naval Weapons Station in Charleston, SC., and two additional NPTUs are land-based prototype units using a S7G reactor and a S8G reactor located in Saratoga Springs, NY. The curriculum for ETNs at an NPTU includes detailed health physics training, design, operation, and maintenance of electronics systems for the NPTU, nuclear watchstanding procedures, and nuclear casualty procedures. Unlike the first two stages of the Navy Nuclear Pipeline where the curriculum is presented in a typical classroom format, training at an NPTU is self-motivated training where students are required to research different aspects of a nuclear propulsion plant design, operation, or theory and demonstrate this knowledge in an oral interview with a qualified nuclear instructor.
