Ansar Burney has worked for the cause of justice for decades and has been successful in securing the release of around 900,000 confined persons from various sites around the world. As such, he is perhaps best known for his work for the release of illegally or wrongfully confined persons. These have included persons locked up for over 55 years on false charges or those confined in mental institutions even though they are perfectly sane or born in prisons. Having been imprisoned himself, Burney witnessed the conditions in which prisoners were living and set about immediately to help them.

The abduction of IDF Corporal Gilad Shalit occurred the next day (25 June 2006). On 28 June Israel launched Operation Summer Rains with the stated objectives of securing the release of Shalit and preventing the launching of Qassam rockets, which had escalated markedly since the 8 June assassination by the IDF. Yun was the key diplomat securing the release of American student Otto Warmbier who had been imprisoned in North Korea for nearly a year and a half. On 26 April 1984 Leahy succeeded in securing the release of the British hostages at the UNITA base in Jamba, Cuando Cubango, Angola. In June 1984, Thatcher received a visit from P. W. Furthermore, his friendship with the Viceroy enabled Le'ul Ras Seyoum to play an influential role in securing the release of 3,000 Ethiopian POWs being held in Italian Somaliland.

The council was preceded by severe conflict involving the Volhynian and Galician regions. Loredan's brother Giorgio, Jacopo Barbarigo, Cristoforo Dandolo, and Pietro Contarini were appointed as galley captains (sopracomiti), while Andrea Foscolo and Delfino Venier were designated as provveditori of the fleet and envoys to the Sultan. While Foscolo was charged with a mission to the Principality of Achaea, Venier was tasked with reaching a new agreement with the Sultan on the basis of the treaty concluded between Musa Çelebi and the Venetian envoy Giacomo Trevisan in 1411, and with securing the release of the Venetian prisoners taken in 1414.
