Apple employee Jack Oliver had the Apple scruffs packing the record into sleeves "in the basement of the old Apple shop".Blaney 2005, p. 10 The Beatles' song "She Came In Through the Bathroom Window" (Abbey Road, 1969) refers to the day that some Beatles fans climbed into Paul McCartney's house through an upstairs bathroom window and raided his wardrobe for a pair of trousers, which they took turns wearing. They also stole a framed photograph, which they later returned at McCartney's request.

After the group's initial break-up, many of the members pursued other careers. Rick Branyan became a Latin teacher at a local private high school in Memphis. David Branyan pursued a solo career recording again at Ardent Studios, before attending Columbia and Yale universities. Burns returned to Memphis from New York in 1982, and continued to record sporadically as The Scruffs with various musicians throughout the rest of the 1980s while finishing his liberal arts degree at the University of Memphis and obtaining a second degree in business and accounting.

Thomas Forbes "Tommy" Hoehn Jr. (November 2, 1954June 24, 2010) was an American singer, songwriter, keyboard player, and guitarist. Along with Jon Tiven, he led the Memphis power pop group Prix before embarking on a solo career. He also provided backing vocals on Big Star's third album, Third/Sister Lovers, and collaborated with Big Star members Alex Chilton and Chris Bell as well as Memphis power pop group The Scruffs. Hoehn and Tiven formed Prix in 1975, not long after Hoehn had given Tiven a tape of his material.

Along with acoustic guitar, percussion and tambura, it featured an overdubbed sitar introduction by Harrison. Two teenage fans, Lizzie Bravo and Gayleen Pease, so-called Apple scruffs, were invited in off the street to provide backup vocals. Lennon was still not satisfied with the feel of the track, and several sound effects were taped, including 15 seconds of humming and a guitar and a harp-like sound, both to be played backwards; however, none of these were used on the released version. The track was mixed to mono and put aside as the group had decided to release "Lady Madonna" and "The Inner Light" as the single.

Throughout this time, Bash maintained his strong interest in music. By the early 1990s his record and CD collection had grown to almost 8000 items, and included many obscurities from international artists not generally known in the US. By the mid-1990s, Bash had discovered pop music fanzines, such as Yellow Pills and Audities, and started writing music reviews and articles for both publications in 1995. Over the next few years, he also wrote for Discoveries, Goldmine, Amplifier, and PopSided magazines, and penned the liner notes for various re-issue CDs, such as The Toms (on Not Lame Recordings), Wanna Meet the Scruffs??, Nino Tempo & April Stevens All Strung Out (Varèse Sarabande), and the 3 disc set Magic Time: The Millennium/Ballroom Recordings (Sundazed).
