The Naust of Sebbe Als. Sebbe Als is owned by "Vikingeskibslaget Sebbe Als" ("The Sebbe Als Viking Ship Guild"), which is a self-owned association. The members are distributed all over Denmark as well as in neighboring countries and in the United States. It is not unusual for members from Aalborg, Copenhagen or Odense to arrive for a sailing trip, or to do some maintenance, and the American members, with links to Hudson River Sloop Clearwater, make it to the annual launching and for sailing whenever possible.

He was sailing a double-ended ketch, 47 feet length overall, built by native laborers. He had a crew of three with him. He was in 1933 the Chief Officer of the C.S. Pacific based in Shanghai, a cable steamer involved in undersea cable maintenance owned by the Great Northern Telegraph Co. Ltd of 4 Avenue Edward VII, Shanghai.

It is said Sam Wakeman is responsible for carving the rough stone steps to the summit of the Mewstone. The island was painted several times by J M W Turner after sketching it during a sailing trip from Plymouth in 1813. "The Mewstone", painted between 1823 and 1826, was left to the nation by the Turner Bequest and is in the collection of Tate Britain. A watercolour of about 1814 in the National Gallery of Ireland, Dublin is entitled "The Mew Stone, at the Entrance of Plymouth Sound, Devonshire".

Hotchkiss left the Russell Military Academy in June 1848, just before he was 17 years old. He went to work for his older brother Thomas as a clerk and bookkeeper. His brother had taken over their father's lumber yard in New Haven the year before. Prompted by the California gold rush, Hotchkiss went to that state in the spring of 1849. The 154-day sailing trip from the east coast involved going around Cape Horn, the southernmost tip of South America where the Atlantic and Pacific oceans meet.

Bischoff was born in Sacramento, California. When he was a young child his parents decided they wanted to move aboard a sailboat, and eventually sailed up the coast to the Pacific Northwest. Bischoff spent his early years on the boat and when he was 14 years old, the family departed on a two-year sailing trip to Central America, through the Panama Canal and into the Caribbean. The family eventually returned to their home on Bainbridge Island, Washington, where Bischoff learned to play a wide variety of instruments.

As a painter of celebrations and events, John Dyer also painted the armada of ships celebrating the safe arrival of Ellen MacArthur to Falmouth in 2005 after her non-stop single-handed round the world sailing trip of 27,000 miles. Falmouth harbour and Pendennis Castle feature regularly in his paintings including of the Solar Eclipse on 11 August 1999. John was also Official Artist for the Funchal 500 Falmouth Tall Ships Regatta in 2008, as well as the Falmouth Tall Ships Race in 1998. Helen, a race-car driver whose life, both personal and professional, is in a rapid downfall, is invited by her ex-husband Maurice's new wife Constance to stay at their plush estate. The two women form a bond, and it is not long before their mutual dislike for the husband culminates into a plan to kill him. Their plan to murder Maurice on a sailing trip goes awry, and Constance is accidentally killed instead. Helen and her ex seize the moment and dispose of Constance's corpse at sea, but when the dead woman's daughter Susan arrives, the young lady begins to suspect that her mother has been murdered.

Norman Luxton at the Banff Indian Days festival, 1927 Luxton was a prominent person in Banff, Alberta after his return from his sailing trip across the Pacific. He published the Crag and Canyon newspaper, built the King Edward Hotel and the Lux Theatre in Banff, and founded the Sign of the Goat Curio Shop, which led to the development of the Luxton Museum of Plains Indians, now the Buffalo Nations Museum. He was one of the organizers of Banff Indian Days and the Banff Winter Carnival. Norman was also made an honorary chief of the Stoney tribe and given the name Chief White Shield.

Episode 17 (segment "Titan") of the American television show Beyond Belief: Fact or Fiction tells the story of Robertson (Harris Fisher) writing Futility, or the Wreck of the Titan/Futility. The strange correlation between Robertson's Futility and the actual sinking of the RMS Titanic was referenced in the 2009/2010 video game Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors. The TV series One Step Beyond references an episode on Morgan Robertson "Night of April 14th" (season 1: episode 2) where a woman has nightmares of drowning in the ice cold ocean. Later her husband plans a sailing trip from England, its destination; New York on the passenger ship Titanic.

Born in a family of artists and travelers, Pierre Feuga also made long trips around the world. He won the Concours général of literature at age sixteen while he was a pupil at Lycée Louis-le-Grand in Paris. Although Feuga did not recognize any master, he nevertheless was very influenced by Patrick Le Bail then Jean Klein with whom he studied the Vedanta and the Hatha-Yoga in the tradition of Jammu-Kashmir. After a long sailing trip that led him to New Caledonia (where he gave his first yoga classes), he settled in Paris and taught there until his death on 10 June 2008.

The school's 125 year anniversary was commemorated by Jersey Post in 1977 with an issue of special stamps on 29 September 1977. In the late 1990s, the school was involved in a highly publicised child abuse scandal concerning a maths teacher at the school, Andrew Jervis-Dykes, and the attempts by staff at the school to cover up the abuse. Allegations were made against Jervis-Dykes in 1992 and 1994, but on both occasions, the school's headmaster, Jack Hydes, failed to notify the police or investigate the allegations and instructed staff not to discuss the allegations. In 1996, thirteen pupils alleged that Jervis-Dykes had abused them on a Navy Cadet sailing trip, but again the allegations were dismissed by the school as rumours.

David Lewis (Peter Gallagher) is so affected by the death of his beautiful wife, Gillian (Michelle Pfeiffer), who fell from the mast of their yacht on a sailing trip, that he turns their summer cottage in Nantucket, Massachusetts into a permanent home and spends most of his time on the beach there, communicating with Gillian's spirit and unwittingly neglecting his daughter, Rachel (Claire Danes). On the second anniversary of Gillian's death, David invites her sister, Esther Wheeler (Kathy Baker), and her husband, Paul (Bruce Altman), to stay for the weekend. She insists on bringing a friend named Kevin Dollof (Wendy Crewson) whom she hopes David will become romantically interested in. He, however, ignores her in proceeding with a ritualistic celebration of Gillian's birthday.

Fishing boat co-owners Jim McClain and Sid Lammon are taking their final sailing trip in San Pedro Bay before selling the boat and retiring. They meet the buyer and his lawyer Wheeler at the dock and, while receiving separate checks, are observed by three fishing boat owners, Julio Salvi, Rudy Petrovic and Joe Victor who says that his boat is better, but is not for sale and Julio laughs bitterly that, "every fishin' boat in this harbor's for sale". McClain is looking forward to sleeping late, but wakes up as usual at 4 am the next morning, goes to the dock and finds Sid watching the boat sail away to more productive fishing waters in Alaska. They go to the Flatfish Café run by their old friend Vangie Cruise who complains that the neighborhood is going downhill.

George Hudson, and his son, Douglas, conceived an idea for an improved ferry operator to replace the neglected Auckland ferry services during a sailing trip on Waitemata Harbour in 1981. By the end of that year, the Hudson family acquired North Shore Ferries (from Leo Dromgoole), another ferry company in Auckland and renaming it the Devonport Steam Ferry Group (which Gulf Ferries Ltd was a part of) (To celebrate the name of the company founded by Ewen W.Allison nearly 100 years before). However, the difficulties and hardships of rejuvenating a failing fleet became apparent almost immediately, as within six weeks of the takeover, every vessel was out of service, except for the Glen Rosa, a small Launch (boat). The transition to a modern operation began in 1987 with the arrival of the Quickcat, Gulf Ferries first catamaran.

More importantly, he met and fell in love with Pamela Bingham, a guitarist and attorney whom he would marry in 2001. In 2005, he released Rock Me on the Water, an album of songs inspired by an extensive sailing trip that took John and Pamela Melanie (as she is known to her friends) from Kingston, New York, to Key West, with a side-trip to Havana, Cuba on a legal humanitarian aid delivery, and later Martha's Vineyard, Cuttyhunk, and Annapolis, Maryland. He also formed the band Gulf Stream Night with longtime Orleans drummer Peter O'Brien, percussionist Joakim Lartey, bassist Bobby MacDougal, and his wife Pamela, who co-wrote four of the songs on the CD, on vocals and guitar.

In this episode, as Troy Barnes prepares to leave Greendale for a year-long sailing trip in order to attain Pierce Hawthorne's (Chevy Chase) reward from his will, Abed Nadir (Danny Pudi) organizes a campus-wide game of "The Floor is Lava," which grows surprisingly competitive when Abed reveals the prize: a comic book worth $50,000. While the game progresses, Britta Perry (Gillian Jacobs) tries to convince the study group -- specifically Abed -- to appropriately cope with Troy's leaving other than another campus-wide competition, and she enlists Professor Buzz Hickey (Jonathan Banks) to help her. Commentators applauded the episode, specifically Abed's role in trying to cope with Troy's impending departure; however, some were critical of the episode's theme and the show's dependency on concept episodes. Upon airing, the episode attained 3.02 million viewers and an 18-49 rating of 1.1, placing fifth in its timeslot and thirteenth for the night among primetime television.
