Rough Copy were a British boy band from Croydon, London. The group consists of Kazeem "Bazza" Ajobe, Sterling Ramsey and Joseph "Wazza" James Thomas. They finished fourth on the tenth series of The X Factor in 2013. They originally auditioned for the ninth series in 2012 and got to the "judges' houses" stage, but were forced to back out as Nigerian-born Ajobe was unable to obtain a visa in time, which would have made it almost impossible for him to re-enter the UK. In 2014, Rough Copy signed a record deal with Epic Records.

Williams was asked to show the investors a rough copy of the film with the remaining scenes filled in with storyboards in order to establish the film's narrative. The standard stock found on the Galil is a rough-copy of the FN-FAL Paratrooper stock, with modifications for simpler production and ease of use. Unlike the FAL folding stock, the Galil uses no locking button and is operated entirely by a pin and spring pivoting mechanism; to fold the stock, the "L" bracket on the stock portion is pressed down to where the spring is fully compressed and the entire stock is allowed to pivot on the buttstock hinge. The same operation is done for unfolding to the stock to the open-position. Before judges' houses, urban act Code 4 had to drop one of their members, Mark Wyman, after it emerged that he had a criminal record, and a spokesman for The X Factor said, "Unfortunately due to problems in getting a visa Mark was unable to travel to Judges' Houses in America, meaning that he ended up having to leave the band to carry on in the competition as a three piece." Code 4 did not make it to the live shows. Three-piece band Rough Copy also had to lose member Kazeem "Kaz" Ajobe before the six-chair challenge due to visa problems. The same had happened to the group in series 9, but this year the other two members, Sterling Ramsay and Joey James, continued without Ajobe and advanced to judges' houses as a duo.

In 2012, Shelley was part of British band Only the Young, but left the band to audition for the ninth series of The X Factor as a solo artist singing "Toxic" and was eliminated during the bootcamp stage, as were boy band Triple J. However, due to Rough Copy having to withdraw from the show, an extra spot was opened up in Louis Walsh's category for judges' houses. Triple J's manager, Blair Dreelan, was contacted by The X Factor producers with an offer for the group to return, on the basis that Shelley was added to the three-piece. All parties accepted the offer and the band – now a four-piece – became Union J and advanced to judges' houses alongside fellow recalled group Times Red. Union J went on to progress to the live shows and finished fourth, behind Christopher Maloney, Jahméne Douglas and eventual winner James Arthur.
