Valakou was born in Kavala in 1930 and her family moved to Athens when she was 16 years old. She attended the Dramatic School of Vasilis Rotas. In 1955, Karezi made her cinema debut in the Alekos Sakellarios' comedy, Laterna, ftoheia kai filotimo in 1955, a massive success just like its sequel, Laterna, ftoheia kai garyfallo in 1957. For the soundtrack of the 1959 film To nisi ton genneon she recorded a song by future Academy Award-winner Manos Hadjidakis, "Min ton rotas ton ourano" ("Do not ask the sky"). Her career flourished in the 1960s, when she headed her own theater troupe in 1961 and starred in some of the most classic movies of the Greek cinema, like Lola (1964), Mia trelli ... trelli oikogeneia (1965), Tzeni-Tzeni (1966), and Kontserto gia polyvola (1967).

A Real Zaragoza youth graduate, Zaragoza-born Láinez made his professional debut with its B-side, but struggled initially to find a first- team place. In January 1999 he served a six-month loan stint at Villarreal CF, playing three La Liga matches as the season ended in relegation. After his return to Zaragoza, Láinez had to wait until the 2001–02 campaign to become first-choice, but his team would again be relegated. The chancel has three round-headed lights in each side and a five light east window. In the graveyard, the earliest gravestone is marked 1616. Some graves stones still present now laid flat at ground level were in the nineteenth century raised with stones sides and some other slabs originally laid at ground level were once surrounded by wrought iron railings, The iron was removed for the war effort in World War II. The churchyard contains three Commonwealth war grave burials of British Army personnel, one of World War I and two of World War II. Stones near the entrance include the 'Anderton Stone' which depicts shack bolts from the Anderton coat of arms and a crucified figure with 'INRI' believed to originate from Anderton Hall chapel. Above it is a carved with a Sator Square reading "SATOR AREPO TENET OPERA ROTAS" which possibly predates the Christian era.

In the nonfiction field, she partnered with photographer Elaine Eiger to write the book Israel: Routes and Roots (Israel: Rotas e Raízes) in 1999. This partnership also produced the documentaries Paths of Memory: The Trajectory of the Jews in Portugal (Caminhos da Memória: A Trajetória dos Judeus em Portugal) in 2002 and The Star Hidden in the Backlands (A Estrela Oculta do Sertão) in 2005, both exhibited in various festivals in Brazil and abroad – Lincoln Center, Festivals of San Diego, Jerusalem, among others – and on TV, constituting important archives of Judaism history in the world. The first documentary won the Best Documentary Direction Award at the New York Independent Film Festival in 2003 and the second one won the Best Documentary Award at the Jewish Film Festival of São Paulo in 2005. As a journalist, Valente has worked for more than two decades on television covering international affairs, on Globo broadcast network.

Obliging doctors to adhere to the European Working Time Directive has had an effect on patient care and on medical training with the Royal College of Surgeons of England reviewing research in 2009 and finding that there were not enough surgeons to fill rotas if they worked only 48 hours a week. They further noted that 90% trainees were exceeding their rostered hours on a weekly basis, 85% reported coming in to do operations on their days off, only 25% felt the working patterns held by their human resources departments accurately reflected their actual working hours, and 55% reported being pressured to falsely declare their actual hours worked. More than two thirds felt the quality of their training and operative skills had deteriorated as a result of shift-working patterns brought in to meet working time regulations, and 71% felt the reduction in working hours had not led to any improvement in their work/life balance. The Association of Surgeons in Training have stated that they believe 65 hours a week is required to gain the necessary training opportunities, and that 80% of respondents to a survey they ran would support an opt-out of the European Working Time Regulation (EWTR) to protect training.
