On Chaitra ashtami, during navratri (nine-day festival), a fair is held at the Kalika Mata temple which is attended by thousands of devotees. The ruins of Patai Raval's palace can be seen on the way to the temple.
Some visitors to Mount Takao bypass the Takaotozan Railway services entirely. Trail 1 from the base of the mountain is a somewhat arduous climb, but it is paved and leads past the top stations of both the ropeway and the funicular on the way to the summit. Trail 6 and the "Inariyama Trail" are unpaved trails that start from the base of the mountain and go all the way to the summit, but they do not pass the ropeway and funicular top stations.

A ropeway construction by the German Organisation Todt (OT) started in 1942 and completed in June 1943. With a daily capacity of 1,000 tons, the ropeway just sufficed to meet the defensive needs of the German 17th Army. On 7 March 1943 Hitler ordered the construction of a combined road and railway bridge over the Strait of Kerch within six months, to push for the German invasion of the North Caucasus. Construction began in April 1943, but before it was completed, in September 1943 concentrated Soviet attacks began on the bridgehead, accelerating the German retreat.

New ore fields were leased just south of Brixworth village in 1939 and again the tramway was extended to reach them. These Brixworth pits continued in production until 1949 when the pits were abandoned and the tramway extension removed. During the Second World War, a new standard gauge branch line was laid to connect the sidings to the Hanging Houghton quarries; from then on the output from those quarries was no longer carried by the aerial ropeway. This branch was extended to Scaldwell in 1954, and the aerial ropeway was abandoned.

In 1906, an aerial ropeway was installed to lift waste rock from the bottom of the exit incline up the mountainside to a site south-west of the quarry reservoir. A stationary steam engine at the upper end of the ropeway provided the power. By 1909, employment at Llwyngwern was down to 33, and the company sold the lease to Sydney Fowler Wright. The ride to Tozanguchi Station is between 15–20 minutes. A number of hiking trails are accessible from all sides of Mount Yamato Katsuragi. The weaves under the ropeway as it goes up the mountain, taking about 70–80 minutes for the ascent. The follows a northwest path before curving back toward the southwest.

Gravity ropeway operates by using potential energy without electricity. A certain weight is dropped from higher elevation which pulls the smaller cargo from lower elevation to higher elevation. This kind of ropeways was first used in Mustang to transportation apple. Since then it has made its way to four other locations, Gorkha, Tanahun, Kalikot and Achham.
Prior to April 2016 (when the cable car was closed), the Mount Aso Ropeway provided access to the mountain. A shuttle bus now runs to the crater's edge. At the foot of the mountain there are also various campsites, and horse riding at Kusasenrigahama. Because Mount Aso is a volcano, there are many onsen hot springs in the area.
Quarrying finished here in about 1912. A new pit was begun in 1939, operating until 1949. This was operated by the Staveley Coal and Iron Company and was connected to their quarrying operation at Scaldwell by an extension of their gauge tramway. The ore was transported from Scaldwell to sidings near Hanging Houghton via an aerial ropeway.

Barite was mined at Glencarbury in the Dartry Mountains above the lake between 1894 and 1979. A cable ropeway from the mine area to the lake shore was constructed in 1942. By this means the extracted barite was taken down for onward road transport. The Glencar Water Company has its bottling plant located near the lake's northern shore.

Sapporo Teine (サッポロテイネ) is a recreational center in Teine-ku, Sapporo, Hokkaido, Japan. It comprises many facilities, such as the ski resort (with other facilities, besides ski), the Teineyama Ropeway, and the Sapporo Teine Golf Club fields. The ski resort has a summit elevation of , located on Mt. Teine, in western Sapporo. Currently skiing and snowboarding can be performed here.

Daisetsuzan Sōunkyō Kurodake Ropeway The is a Japanese aerial lift line in Kamikawa, Hokkaidō, operated by . The company also operates a travel agency, a hotel in Asahidake Onsen, and chairlifts at Mount Moiwa Ski Resort, Sapporo. Opened in 1967, the aerial lift climbs Mount Kuro of the Daisetsuzan Mountains from the hot spring resort. A chairlift is connected to the line, climbing higher.
New tar houses were built in brick, and ropeway walls were built on the eastern and northern sides. Between 1946 and 1957, all the machinery was replaced with a resulting increase in production enabled by the introduction of synthetic materials. Staffing was reduced until the final team consisted of just seven men. The last stretch of rope was produced on 30 December 1960.

Hiking to the top of Mount Takao takes an average of 90 minutes, but the time may vary depending on the method used to climb the mountain. Visitors to Mount Takao can choose to start climbing from the base, or take a funicular or ropeway ride halfway up the mountain. The Takaotozan Railway operates both of these services. The system nominally has four stations—two each for the funicular and the ropeway. However, the distance between the pairs of stations is only a few dozen metres (at the base of the mountain) and approximately 150 metres (at the top of the services, which are themselves about a 30-minute scenic uphill walk from the top of Mount Takao itself), so they can essentially both be thought of as coming from and going to the same place.

The line opened in 1925, originally as a route to Tōri Tenjō-ji temple on Mount Maya. Now the line is used to see the scenic view of Kobe. The pits were originally hand worked, but in 1933 steam dragline excavators were introduced, which made the quarrying faster and more efficient. The Société Anonyme des Hauts-Fourneaux de Rodange was founded in 1872 by the brothers Charles and Jules Collart and Thomas Byrne with a capital of 2.5million Luxembourgish francs. The is a railway line of Kintetsu Corporation in Nara Prefecture, Japan connecting Shakudo Station in Katsuragi and Gose Station in Gose. The line has four stations including the terminal Gose and the transfer station Shakudo. It is mainly used by commuters to Osaka, as well as those who access to Mt. Katsuragi. At Gose, there is a bus headed for the Mt. Katsuragi Ropeway, which is also run by Kintetsu.

Visitors to Guam can take a short ropeway ride to "Yokoi's Cave", a tourist attraction/monument to Yokoi's life located on the site of the original cave at Talofofo Falls Resort Park. There are several natural primitive hot springs, and also a hot springs resort, with approximately twelve buildings. The nearby ropeway costs 1800 or 2800 yen, depending on the time of year. Hiking opportunities in the area range from 30- to 60-minute walks all the way up to one- or two-day tours of the area's mountains. The area is volcanic, and evidence of such activity is plentiful.

A continuous circulating bi-cable aerial ropeway system, where the track cable acts as a rail in the sky and the haul cable pulls the cabins, allows long spans between towers.

An offer of Rupees Eighty Million, received from a Central Government firm, from Naini, Allahabad, was considered to be unviable. Subsequently Jog Engineering Limited offered to execute the project on a Build - Operate - Transfer basis in 1994, at a cost of Rupees 31 Million, and the same was accepted by SSRSM .

Kitayatsugatake RopewayThe is the name of Japanese aerial lift line (known until 2012 as Piratasu Tateshina Ropeway) in Chino, Nagano, as well as its operator. The company also operates Pilatus Tateshina Snow Resort, a ski area served by the line. The company operates Tateshina Kōgen Art Museum at the submontane station as well. Opened in 1967, the line climbs , transporting skiers and rime spectators in winter, hikers in other seasons.
The was Japanese aerial lift line in Aso, Kumamoto, operated by . It was opened in 1958, and climbs Mount Aso. Its official website claims it was the first aerial lift in the world to be built on an active volcano. The ropeway has been dismantled as a result of damaged sustained during the 2016 Kumamoto earthquakes and a shuttle bus now runs from the original boarding area to the crater edge.
Two-thirds of Meremere's annual 800,000-tonne coal requirements was met by the nearby Maramarua coalfield, with coal delivered to the power station by a twin aerial ropeway. The remaining one-third of coal came from other mines, and was railed to Meremere via a private siding off the North Island Main Trunk. Meremere last produced power in December 1990 and was decommissioned in March 1991 after 33 years in service.
In late 1922, a siding was constructed at Whitchurch station, about away. and an aerial ropeway was used to move materials to the site. Work stopped in March 1924, and in October Hybart, Broadhead & Company won a contract to continue construction. They used the aerial ropeway and the onsite railway to make progress, but subsidence occurred, and their contract was terminated on 31 March 1926. The corporation employed Francois Cementation Company to make borings and carry out remedial work in 1926-1927 and finished the construction using direct labour. The reservoir was half-filled in November 1927, and fully filled in February 1928. At some point, a roof was fitted to cover the reservoir, plans for which were drawn up in 1939, in order to protect the water supply during the war. Two 0-4-0 Wren class saddle tanks are known to have worked at the site, both manufactured by Kerr, Stuart and Company.
Because of the high rainfall in Blaenau Ffestiniog the quarry used its own hydro-electric generating station to provide this power. In 1909 Richard Greaves, the son of John Ernest, became chairman of the Ffestiniog Railway. In 1932 a Blondin aerial ropeway was installed at Llechwedd and three years later a major new mill was built. Work at the quarry continued during World War II with production increasing temporarily after the conflict.
He opened a butcher's shop at Haydonton in 1842. Ben Hall lived at Murrurundi with his family until the age of 13. Oil shale (kerosene shale) was mined at Mount Temi, some to the north of Murrurundi from 1886, but lay dormant for many years. Four tourists were killed and 11 others injured when three carriages of the Darjeeling Rungeet Valley Ropeway slipped off the cables at Singamari on 19 October 2003. One carriage was empty. The carriages, with the passengers, crashed and rolled into the steep tea garden slopes nearly 100 ft below. Those killed and injured were from Kharagpur. They were Bratati Mitra (35), her husband, Biswajit Mondal (40), Shahrukh Khan (40) and her daughter, Tanushree Mairi (7).

The Keçiören Gondola () is a two-station gondola-type line of aerial lift passenger transport system situated in Keçiören district of Ankara, Turkey. Opened on April 2008, the long line connects Kavacık Subayevleri neighborhood (Atatürk station) in the south with Tepebaşı neighborhood (Cumhuriyet station) in the north within Keçiören. It is operated by Keçiören Municipality. The line was designed and the system was delivered by the Turkish ropeway producing company STM Sistem Teleferik from İzmir.
With the capacity to transport 30 tons of material every hour in each direction from the seaport of Massawa to 2326 meters above sea level in Asmara, the cableway was the longest of its kind in the world when inaugurated in 1937. Poma has built a number of large aerial tramways. In 2003, Poma built the world's largest reversible ropeway to connect the French resorts of Les Arcs and La Plagne, the Vanoise Express. The double decker tramway can hold up to 200 people at a time in each cabin. In 2010, Poma worked on the replacement of the Roosevelt Island Tramway in New York, using a design based mechanically on the Vanoise Express.
Drivers were ready at 6:45 am for the hour trip from the Works to the city carrying cement, returning via Bromptom, where coke was loaded. Horse-drawn trolleys were also used to cart additional stone from the Reynella quarries to the Reynella railway station, to be freighted to the Marino site by rail. Eventually the Reynella horses were replaced by the "Flying Fox". This labour-saving aerial ropeway became somewhat of a tourist attraction.

The Hakkōda Ropeway was opened in October 1968, providing aerial lift access to the top of Mount Tamoyachidake, one of the peaks in the northern Hakkōda Mountains. The Hakkōda Mountains appear on a postage stamp released on 20 July 1951 and in a set of stamps released on 30 March 2015. Yūichirō Miura, the oldest person to reach the summit of Mount Everest, said that the Hakkōda Mountains were the mountains held the closest to his heart.
One can access the Dhuandhar waterfall from the east bank as well as from the west bank of Narmada River. To see the other side of Dhaundhar Waterfall you have to take the Cable Car Service available at Bhedaghat. The Cable Car Service is available at the entrance gate of Bhedaghat. The ropeway facility starts from the eastern bank of Narmada River, crosses the river and then drops you at the west bank of the River.
The park is situated at the 770 metres height, the highest point of Tbilisi, on the area of more than 100 hectares. It is connected to a motorway (Tbilisi-Okrokana Direction) as well as a funicular, built in 1905. Another temple dedicated to Karni Mata is Shri Manshapurna Karni Mata Temple or Karni Mata, Udaipur, located on the Machla Hills, near Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Park in Udaipur, Rajasthan. One can reach to the temple either by stairs, starting from Manikyalal Verma Park, or by ropeway. Between the years 1620 and 1628, Maharana Karan Singh developed a residential area at Machla Magra for Udaipur's safety. It was during this time that the Karni Mata Temple was built.
Bottom of Denniston Incline, c.1880s-90s. The Denniston Incline began operation in April 1880. It was a self-acting ropeway that used gravity to lower 12.5 ton gross laden weight New Zealand Railways' coal wagons one at a time from Brakehead, at Denniston, at the top to Conns Creek below. Each descending wagon hauled an empty one up the incline by means of wire ropes, each wagon attached to its own rope and brake drum.
The ropeway was damaged in the 1939 Black Friday fires and did not reopen with the mine in 1943. The mine's final owners installed coal loading facilities at Winchelsea railway station instead, and sold the coal further afield within Victoria. The mine closed in 1957, having produced about three million tons of coal. The opening of a newer mine at Anglesea, which was said to be more easily worked, was given as a major reason for its closure.
The company built the world's first detachable high speed quad chairlift in 1981 at Breckenridge Ski Resort in Colorado. As detachable lifts became increasingly popular, Doppelmayr's market share and reputation increased. In 1996, Doppelmayr's European holding company purchased the ropeway department of Von Roll, a Swiss manufacturer which had been making lifts in North America since the mid-1980s. Von Roll owned Hall Ski-Lift, an American company that produced more than 400 lifts from 1960 to 1985.

Inside the park, there are many attractions, including Gifu Castle, Mount Kinka, the Mt. Kinka Ropeway, the Gifu City Museum of History, the Eizō & Tōichi Katō Memorial Art Museum, and the Nawa Insect Museum. In 2006, it was selected as one of Japan's Top 100 Public Historical Parks.
Conventional diesel tourist buses decorated to look like streetcars are sometimes called trolleys in the US (tourist trolley). Furthering confusion, the term tram has instead been applied to open-sided, low-speed segmented vehicles on rubber tires generally used to ferry tourists short distances, for example on the Universal Studios backlot tour and, in many countries, as tourist transport to major destinations. The term may also apply to an aerial ropeway, e.g. the Roosevelt Island Tramway.
The Koranui Incline was an inclined tramway on the West Coast of the South Island of New Zealand that, for four years from late 1882 to the end of 1886, brought coal from a mine high on Mt Frederick down to a railway line near sea level. It was first powered by a single engine that moved the whole 3.6 kilometre (2.2 mile) length of ropeway, but was later modified into a series of five self-acting inclines.
As well as ore lifted from the mine itself the site served for periods as railheads for ore from Kennesome Hill and Bearland Wood mines. Neither route was straightforward. Ore travelled from Kennesome Hill via an aerial ropeway, thereby crossing a sharp, deep valley and ore travelled up from Bearland Wood via an incline operated by horse powered whims. The mine had a substantial stone and slate engine house with a rotary beam pumping and winding engine.

R. G. Martin, 1992: "Experimental Cement Shaft Kiln at Beddingham", Sussex Industrial History pp. 21–35. The kiln was demolished when the quarry was converted into Beddingham landfill site. Rodmell Works was founded as a cement works with a rotary kiln in 1932, adjacent to Asham Quarry, using a narrow-gauge tramway. Cement was carried to Asham Wharf on the Ouse by an aerial ropeway and there loaded into boats piloted up and down the Ouse by tugs.
In 1964 and in 1972 opened Shosēn Gorge Ropeway and Mitake Shosēn Gorge Turnpike, respectively, making it a major tourist destination year around. During the holidays seasons, traffic jam on the turnpike and difficulty with parking due to limited availability often take place. In 1992, the Shosēnkyō Museum of Art, which mainly displays shadow play and kirigami exhibits, was built nearby. The Nishisawa Canyon is a canyon carved by the Fuefuki River located upstream of Hirose Lake.
Kikuseidai is located at about 700 meters above the sea level to the north of , terminal station of Maya Ropeway. It starts with a walking path decorated with fluorescent material which is supposed to remind visitors of the Milky Way. Because of its fabulous night view of the city lights spread out before, this place is even likened to "a hill(台) where one could scoop up(掬う) a handful of star(星)," hence the name "Kikuseidai(掬星台)".
This led to a major review of the technology and the procedures guiding it; the resulting recommendations were rapidly included in ropeway construction elsewhere, especially in Switzerland. During the Second World War, the Schauinslandbahn was used to provide transport to military hospitals established on the Schauinsland mountain. Because of the danger of air attack during 1944 and 1945, the line was operated only at night. The line was acquired by the city of Freiburg in 1968, and merged into VAG in 1982.

Sunrise colors over the Sahyadris Top Station was a transshipment point for delivery of tea from Munnar to Bodinayakkanur. Top Station derived its name from its being the upper terminus of the Kottagudi Aerial Ropeway. It was also the location of the terminal railway station on the Kundala Valley Railway, built in 1902 between Munnar, Kundalai and this low point in the crest of the hills above steep cliffs. A monorail goods carriage system was initially installed along this cart route.
The Ngong Ping 360 is a 5.7 km cableway that links Tung Chung and Ngong Ping via angled stations at Airport Island and Nei Lak Shan. Ngong Ping is the home of the Big Buddha and Po Lin Monastery. The Ngong Ping 360 and Ngong Ping Village form the Ngong Ping 360 tourism project. Following an accident involving one of the cable cars falling from the ropeway in June 2007, Ngong Ping Cable Car services were suspended until passenger safety could be guaranteed.
James Vasanthan was born in Tiruchirapalli (Trichy), Tamilnadu, India, to Brownie Sophia and George Theophilus, a police officer, who died in service, due to cancer. James was just 12 then. His mom used to tell him that her father Antony who was an engineer in the ropeway services in Anamalai Hills, Pollachi, erected and maintained by the Brits in the colonial times, was a meticulous person known for his discipline and strictness. James could see all of those traits in her.
The line was built in 1926, replacing an earlier overhead ropeway from the quarry to the main works. The railway had two main sections: one from the works depot to an older quarry, and a longer track which used the tunnel and connected to a newer quarry. An open wagon in the livery of Tilmanstone Colliery Hopes of extensions were raised when the Southern Railway invested £44,000 in discounted shares (£220,000 at par) in 1926, but dashed when it lost interest (although remaining friendly and having directors on the Board). The railway settled down to running coal trains for Tilmanstone Colliery as its only profitable activity. The colliery company objected to its rates, and opened an aerial ropeway in competition to the Eastern Arm of Dover Harbour in 1930.
Many villages and communities are difficult to reach because of the large differences in altitude, so the region sets much on ropeway concepts. Although most of the cable cars are located in ski resorts, they are also used for the local public transport. Known cable cars in Tyrol are the Ritten cable car in Bolzano, the Sardagna cable car in Trento and the Nordkette cable car in Innsbruck. Also funicular railways are being built to cope with the differences in altitude more quickly.
Former world leading wire ropeway company Adolf Bleichert & Co. from Leipzig (Germany) was awarded the contract for the construction. It was completed in 1929 at a cost of GB£60,000 (equivalent to £11,400,000 in 2011 pounds) and the cableway was opened on 4 October 1929, by the Mayor of Cape Town AJS Lewis. The cableway has been upgraded three times since then. Sir David Graaff, a leading industrialist, former mayor of Cape Town and government minister, also invested heavily in the project.
Mount Ryū and Mount Fujiwara are a mountain range running through Mie Prefecture and along the borders of Gifu and Shiga prefectures in central Japan. The tallest peak in the range is Mount Oike at . In spite of its height, Mount Oike is not the most visited mountain; that distinction belongs to Mount Gozaisho because of its Gozaisho Ropeway, making reaching the peak much easier. Suzuka Quasi-National Park protects a portion of the mountain range from development and has a total area of .
The ore was shipped over a privately-operated railway branch line that joined the main line at Spring Hill. The railway line ended on the eastern side of the creek. Iron ore was carried downhill in skips via an inclined tramway, then across the valley by an aerial ropeway to bins, where it was loaded into rail wagons and sent to Lithgow. Iron ore mining at Cadia ended soon after the relocation of blast furnace operations from Lithgow to Port Kembla in late 1928.

Nonetheless, freight was the centre of operations at the station: not only for the local collieries served by the station, as it was also used by local companies to load and unload freight, especially for the Baroper Maschinenfabrik ("Barop engineering works") from 1856 and the Baroper Walzwerk ("Barop rolling mill") from 1862. In 1861, the station was moved to its present location near the Harkortstraße. The Clausthal shaft of the Vereinigte Louise Tiefbau colliery was connected by a ropeway conveyor to the train station in 1865.
Funivia di San Marino The Funivia di San Marino (in English: "Ropeway") is an aerial cable car in San Marino. The cable car runs from a lower terminus in Borgo Maggiore to the upper station in the City of San Marino. Established in 1959 and modernized twice, the first in the 1990s and the second in 2017, it is one of the most used means of transport to reach the capital, especially by tourists and workers. It is managed by the State Company for Public Services.
Skytrac Lifts, Inc, known as Skytrac, is an American aerial ropeway engineering, manufacturing and installation company located in Salt Lake City, UT. Since 2010, Skytrac has focused on the North American majority market of new fixed-grip installations. They also provide modification and retrofitting services to the aging chairlift segment of the ski, chairlift transportation and amusement ride industries. Leitner-Poma purchased Skytrac in April 2016. This acquisition gives Leitner-Poma a stronger presence in the fixed-grip and retrofit market in North America.
After seeing the number of lifts connecting resorts around the Matterhorn, they got the idea of connecting Whistler and Blackcomb Mountains with a ropeway. A number of problems prevented a connection for years. Fitzsimmons Creek and the steep faces on either side were unsuitable as ski terrain and are protected land. A traditional chairlift or gondola would have had to go all the way down one mountain, across Fitzsimmons Creek, and up the other side, resulting in a long lift ride and environmental impacts.
The resort was pioneered in 2000 by a joint venture of Scorzonera Ltd. and Horizont AL as an all-year-round tourist and recreational complex. The research for potential ski fields and cableways of the first stage was conducted in cooperation with Plan-Alp, Austria, and Ecosign, Canada, who also finalized the master plan for the resort. By late 2001, a first 691-meter ski lift was launched at the Northern slope of Mountain Bukovel along with the projected chairlift ropeway at the Bukovel's north-western slope.
A serious incident occurred on the Singapore Cable Car system at about 6 p.m. on 29 January 1983, when the derrick of the Eniwetok, a Panamanian-registered oil rig, passed under the aerial ropeway and struck the cable that stretched over the waterway between the Jardine Steps Station and the Sentosa Station. As a result, two cabins plunged into the sea, killing seven people. The oil rig was being towed away from Keppel Wharf when it became entangled in the cable and caused it to snap.
Mount Asahi the tallest peak and Sugatami Pond is a mountain located in the town of Higashikawa, Hokkaido and the tallest mountain in the Japanese island of Hokkaido. It is part of the Daisetsuzan Volcanic Group of the Ishikari Mountains, it is located in the northern part of the Daisetsuzan National Park. The mountain is popular with hikers in the summer and can be easily reached from Asahidake Onsen via Asahidake Ropeway. During winter, the mountain is open for use by skiers and snowboarders.
Because of its steep site the township had the reputation that no wheeled vehicle, cart, wagon or buggy ever got into its main streets. A postal receiving office operated from 1903 to 1907. The battery and general work at Rocky Bluffs, the terminus of the Stannary Hills tramline, gave employment to about 50 men in 1905. Ore was shipped in from surrounding mines, such as the Arbouin, which was connected by an aerial ropeway to the tramline, the Ivanhoe, Extended, Kitchener and Eclipse mines.
Twenty head of stamps and an aerial ropeway were erected to treat the wolfram ore in 1918. The mines were formed into groups with common haulage systems. The central collection point for the mines (Liesner's Wolfram Block, Murphy and Geany, Larkin and Wade, Hillside, Hughes, Tully and Mulligan) was the Forget-me-Not mine, and the buckets were transported electrically to the mill. The Thermo Electric Ore Reduction Corporation failed to survive the slump in metal prices after the return to free market forces in March 1920.
Immense amounts of concrete were needed to construct the bridge. One concrete mixing plant was constructed on the D.C. shore, and concrete was delivered to the worksite in the river by ropeway conveyor. A second mixing plant was constructed in mid-river: The plant was floated into position, and then allowed to sink down to the riverbed. Steel for the reinforced concrete structure and for the steel arches within its spans was assembled on the D.C. shoreline, then floated by barge to the worksite.
Hochheideturm was designed by Kock Suck in Korbach and is constructed of reinforced concrete construction with octagonal cross section. Erection of Hochheideturm, which belongs to Ettelsberg aerial ropeway GmbH & CO. kg, cost 2 million euro and started in November 2001, after construction permit was given on 16 October 2001. On 31 January 2002 its foundation was finished and on 15 April 2002 the above ground construction work. Over the prospect platform there is an engineering floor, in which transmitters for police radio services are installed.
On 18th She successfully scaled up to the PongalaPara and went beyond close to the first ropeway. But due to unfavorable climatic conditions (rain and dense fog) and health concerns of her accomplices forced her to return to the camp without scaling the peak (2 km short). She garnered huge respect and adulations from all those who had trekked and present during the period at the camp. Many said they drew inspiration from her for her grit and determination and fondly called her "Trekker Ammumma".
For instance the Dubbs Quarry incline allowed slate to be pulled up and then down into the valley to The Hause. Although by mid-1920s, aerial ropeways now served the Honister and Yew Crags Mines, the external Yew Crags incline proved to be so efficient it remained in use until the late 1960s. A petrol-driven narrow- gauge locomotive was used to make the connection between the Hause/slate works and the incline and short aerial ropeway. A bridge carried the railway over the Seatoller-Buttermere road.
Ore was quarried close to Hanging Houghton and Scaldwell from about 1912. By 1924 these quarries were working close to the junction of the main Northampton to Lamport road and the road to Scaldwell. The ore was at that time taken a short distance by narrow gauge (3 feet) tramway and then aerial ropeway to sidings on the railway between Brixworth and Hanging Houghton. This quarry to the north and east of the road junction operated until 1927 and again from 1936 to 1963.
By 1913 the quarry was well equipped with stone breaking machinery, rotary screens, cubing mill, a steam loco, cranes, compressed air rock drills, and an aerial ropeway that carried the quarry products to a railway siding at Monkmoors. Its output of granite kerbs, channels, setts, macadam, and crushed granite reached a total of about 25,000 tons per annum that year. In 1926 it provided road stone for the widening of the main road through the parish. Thereafter the quarry began to decline, and in 1930 the Eskmeals Granite Company ceased operations.
A new company, the Broadoak Granite Company, was founded by the rector of Waberthwaite, Revd. Parminter, and took over the operations at the quarry in 1932. The new company replaced the aerial ropeway with two Bedford trucks and ran operations on a smaller scale, but it struggled, and despite a slight recovery during the Second World War, the quarry closed in 1946. Since then some stone has occasionally been taken for specific purposes, one example being the use of Waberthwaite granite for the cladding of a building at London airport in 1979.
Nearby, on the flanks of Clee Hill, a standard gauge railway incline provided means of exporting quarried stone from above Cleehill village. This railway infrastructure remained intact until abandoned in the early 1960s.D.J. Norton Railway Photographs In the past the quarries have also been worked (on a much smaller scale) for coal, fireclay and limestone. Early in the 20th century, a further large quarry (the Magpie Quarry) opened on the eastern side of Clee Hill and an aerial ropeway was built to carry stone off the hill eastwards to the railway at Detton Ford.
The cable car began operations on 1 July 1928, after only a year's construction. The production of the ropes was assigned to the Westphalian Wire Industry (Westfälische Drahtindustrie). The building of the three pylons, at heights of 22, 32 and 9 metres was contracted to Hochtief AG, from Munich. The heartpiece, the wire ropeway drive technology and the two elegant pavilion passengers cabins were manufactured by the German, at that time worldwide leading wire ropeways company Adolf Bleichert & Co. from Leipzig, technology based on the Bleichert- Zuegg system.
Ngakawau, the more economically important of the two settlements, stands on the southern side of the mouth of the Ngakawau River. Ngakawau serves as the terminus of the Ngakawau Branch railway. An aerial ropeway from the Stockton Mine transports significant tonnages of coal to Ngakawau for trans-shipment to the port town of Lyttelton on the east coast of New Zealand. The line from Westport to Ngakawau opened on 12 September 1877, and an extension northward across the river through Hector to Mokihinui opened on 8 August 1893.
The Lodge was built as the headquarters for the Trustees of the Edinburgh Water Company. A category B listed house in the Scots Renaissance style, it sits in its own private grounds overlooking the reservoir. All materials for construction were lifted from there to the construction site by a ropeway, called a 'Blondin' after the famous tightrope walker Charles Blondin. These included stone and aggregates from quarries in North Queensferry and Craigleith, pipes, valve gear and pumping equipment from central Scotland, as well as the clay, gravel and sand used in the dam embankment.
The Mount Roberts Tramway uses a cable transportation system known as an aerial tramway, first used in the European Alps in the late 1800s. Tramways have been traditionally associated with ski areas, but today these systems are also used in other visitor attractions, material hauling and urban transportation. Leitner-Poma of America, the Mount Roberts Tramway builder, is a subsidiary of Pomagalski, S. A., the world's largest supplier of ropeway transportation systems. The tram has two 60-passenger cabins, capable of a maximum uphill capacity of 1050 people per hour.
Tbilisi funicular reopened 2012 after a multi-year closure. It is a ropeway railway first built 1905, connecting Chonkadze street and Mtatsminda Park, and covering almost in altitude difference. The top of the hill is the highest point of the city, offering many different views of Tbilisi, and is home to the Tbilisi TV Broadcasting Tower as well as some amusement rides, including a roller-coaster and a ferris wheel. The half-way station of the funicular is just a short way away from Mtatsminda Pantheon, providing easy access to the necropolis.
However, fracture was quick, at around half a millisecond. In 1829 Wilhelm Albert had studied and reported on the failure of the iron chains and began creating a twisted metal cabling known as Albert Rope. In 1864 Andrew Smith Hallidie manufactured wire rope and was heavily involved in building early cable bridges and ropeway conveyors; his wire rope went on to be used in San Francisco's famous cable cars, and was also added to the cable drums in the hoist houses on the Comstock Lode. Another innovation, were spring loaded cages.
Formerly the odd villager worked at the mines in the surrounding area; with the rise of the stone industry on the Dimpel in Rammelsbach and on the Remigiusberg, quarrymen predominated. Within municipal limits were three hard-stone quarries, one of which was under municipal ownership. The oldest quarry, on the left side of the road that leads to Theisbergstegen was opened in 1868 by a schoolteacher, and later ended up under the ownership of several private firms. The quarry had a crusher and until 1954 a ropeway link to the railway station at Theisbergstegen.
It was built by the Doppelmayr / Garaventa Group, one of the leading companies in the design and manufacture of cable cars. In order to transport the materials up the mountain, a simple ropeway was built. The materials consisted of approximately 3,700 cubic meters of concrete, 4,500 cubic meters of water, 420 tons of steel and 8,600 tons of gravel. The funicular has two cabins able to transport up to 80 individuals and overcome the height difference of 1639 m within 10 minutes with the help of a 1000 kW engine.
From 1910 onwards Kasprowy Wierch became very popular among ski tourists so much so an aerial tramway or téléphérique, reaching almost to the summit, was built between 1935-1936 as such it is one of the oldest in Europe. As part of its modernization, the cabin aerial ropeway was closed for a period until December 2007. In 1938 meteorological and astronomical observatories were built here. One of the faint Kordylewski clouds, at or circling the L4 and L5 librations points of the moon, was first photographed here by Kazimierz Kordylewski in 1961.
The last five miles to Cadia decreased in elevation at an average gradient of 1 in 55 and had many curves. The line terminated on the eastern side of Cadiangullong Creek and the northern side of Cadia Creek—about three-quarters of a mile from the ore quarry and one and a half miles from the town—at the location of the powerhouse. The line could go no farther due to the steep-sided valley. Ore from the quarry was carried by an aerial ropeway, across the valley to the loading point for the trains.

The original decision to site an ironworks at Lithgow in 1875, was based upon the existence of coal and a relatively small iron ore deposit there. After blast furnace operation recommenced at Lithgow in 1907, ore had to be brought from further away, from Coombing Park—near Carcoar—(up to May 1923), Tallawang (from 1911 to Feb. 1927) and Cadia (from 1918).
Herbert Lloyd Pinches now took over and, taking a cue > from the way the ropeway and the pioneering Munnar Factory were powered, he > started the Munnar Valley Electric Works, which supplied power to nine > factories within a radius of six miles. This was the first electric power > supplied for tea manufacture in India. In time, much of the High Range would > get its power from the MVEW grid. By 1924, Pinches had ensured that most of > the kanan Devan property had been cleared and developed, though development > continued till 1932.
Four of the forts (Luton, Horsted, Bridgewoods and Borstal) were linked by an gauge railway, hauled by convicts, to move building materials between the sites. Building materials were brought by barge up the River Medway to a quay at Borstal; they were landed, then hauled by a steam-powered ropeway up the steep scarp slope of the North Downs to Fort Borstal, where they were offloaded onto the railway. The prisoners were accompanied on their labours by armed warders on horseback. The railway remained in use until about 1905.
The experiment was unsuccessful and the plant closed in 1914. The Rosebery mines passed into the hands of the Mount Lyell Mining and Railway company in 1916, and the mines were eventually merged with the Electrolytic Zinc Company of Australasia (EZ), who had discovered an effective method for the extraction of zinc. In 1926, construction of a processing mill at Rosebery began, and in 1931, an aerial ropeway to transport ore from the Hercules Mine near Williamsford was completed. Due to the Great Depression, the Rosebery Mill was not completed until 1936.
In 1880, the Barker shoe company was founded in Earls Barton, and remains there to the present day. Between 1913 and 1921, ironstone was produced in two local quarries; the first, situated north of Doddington Road, began operations in 1913, the second in 1916, west of Wellingborough Road. A 3 foot gauge tramway connected both quarries to the northern terminal of the gas-powered aerial ropeway, where the ore was loaded into buckets. It was then taken across the River Nene to Castle Ashby and Earls Barton station, and dumped into railway wagons.
This tramway used a small diesel locomotive. It is not clear how long gannister was quarried but the quarry still appears to have been in use in 1949 and a rusty quarry machine was in situ in the 1970s. The quarried area has mostly been built on but some traces of the system remain including part of a final gullet north of Doddington Road and the remains of a bridge in that road. The remains of the tipping point from the tramway to the ropeway can be seen from Dowthorpe Hill and Milbury.
The resort was opened on December 21, 1963 as Treasure Mountain by United Park City Mines. This company was the last surviving mining corporation in Park City, and the resort was opened with funds from a federal government program meant to revive the economically depressed town. When it originally opened, it boasted the longest gondola in the United States, as well as a double chairlift, a J-bar lift, base and summit lodges, and a nine- hole golf course. The gondola was a four-passenger Polig-Heckel-Bleichert (PHB, a German aerial ropeway company).
The station was opened on 10 January 1863 with the completion of the third section of the Lahn Valley Railway. In 1908, a ropeway conveyor with a length of 3 km was built from the nearby Fortuna iron ore mine to the station. The ore mined there was transported by rail to blast furnaces in the Ruhr area. Until 1962, the mine railway from the southern end of Laubach iron ore mine ended at of the station and the opencast Schlagkatz mine in Oberbiel used the station as a transhipment point.

In 1954 an extensive cable car system was installed to transport workers around the valley and up to the mines. Still utilising the same infrastructure installed originally in the 1950s, today some 17 separate aerial lift cable car systems still exist around the town. Some of the most interesting lines are just outside the city.
Lake Ashi from Hakone Ropeway, a major tourist attraction in Hakone The economy of Hakone is strongly dominated by the tourist industry. Hakone is noted for its onsen hot spring resorts, which attract both Japanese and international visitors, due to its proximity to the greater Tokyo metropolis and to Mount Fuji. Sights include the volcanically active Ōwakudani geysers and Hakone Shrine on the shore of the lake, as well as the Hakone Botanical Garden of Wetlands. In April the cherry blossoms (sakura) and in autumn the Miscanthus sinensis (susuki) are noted sights.
The summer months are dappled with greenery and some leftover snow from winter, while from mid-September, visitors can enjoy bright autumn colors along the entire route. There are charter services from Taipei, Inchon and Thailand during the high season to reach Murodo. From Murodo, visitors can also reach Kurobe Dam, which stands at 186 meters (610 feet), making it the tallest dam in Japan. From Murodō Station, visitors should take the Tateyama Tunnel Trolleybus (10 minutes), followed by the Tateyama Ropeway (7 minutes), and finally the Kurobe Cable Car (5 minutes).
Gold mining in Tanzania in modern times dates back to the German colonial period, beginning with gold discoveries near Lake Victoria in 1894. The first gold mine in what was then Tanganyika, the Sekenke Mine, began operation in 1909, and gold mining in Tanzania experienced a boom between 1930 and World War II. After World War II production was increased at Geita. By 1948 ore was recovered at three levels, processed in ball mills and gold recovered by the cyanide process. Ore was also recovered from a mine at Ridge Eight and carried 13 km to Geita by aerial ropeway.

Climbing to the summit of Mount Ōdake, the peak of the Hakkōda Mountains, is not difficult and does not require any technical skill between May and November. To reach the peak climbers start their accent at Sukayu Onsen or the top of the Hakkōda Ropeway, both of which can be accessed by public buses or private automobiles from National Route 103 and National Route 394. From Sukayu Onsen, it takes about an hour and forty-five minutes make the ascent to the summit that is accessible by a well-marked pathway.
Red gondola number 1 was on its way down from the slope of the mountain, nearing the lower supporting tower, and red gondola number 2 was nearing an upper tower, when the hauling rope broke inside the coupler of the upper gondola. Both gondolas rolled down simultaneously. The lower gondola slammed into the wall of the lower station, killing four and injuring many others. The upper gondola generated a higher speed (the length of ropeway was ); on reaching the lower support tower, it struck the broken hauling rope, which was hanging on the tower, causing the cable to tear the gondola apart.
Ladyshore Colliery in about 1948 At various stages, the owners connected the two sides of the colliery. Around 1850 a bridge was built over the canal (bridge number 67) and some time around 1881, the bridge was railed to make a tubway. In 1905 the owners entered into discussion with the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway Company in an attempt to establish an endless steel ropeway across the canal, and to deliver coal using a possible rail spur to the colliery. Although these talks were abandoned, in 1908 the subject was again raised, again with no result.
The project was delayed when the palanquin-bearers, who carried pilgrims up the mount, opposed the project and petitioned the Gujarat High Court regarding their livelihood. The petition was dismissed after the company constructing the ropeway, Usha Breco Limited, agreed for compensatory livelihood. As of 2020, total 104 shops for palanquin-bearers who were affected by the project, are being constructed in the parking lot of the lower terminal. After objections from the environmental activists, the construction was further stopped in 1999. The work resumed in 2002 after sorting the objections and the land was acquired in 2007.
Between 1896 and 1907, five dams, the Woodhead, Hely-Hutchinson, De Villiers, Alexandria and Victoria reservoirs, were opened on the Back Table to supply Cape Town's water needs. A ropeway ascending from Camps Bay via Kasteelspoort ravine was used to ferry materials and manpower (the anchor points at the old top station can still be seen). There is a well-preserved steam locomotive from this period housed in the Waterworks Museum at the top of the mountain near the Hely-Hutchinson dam. It had been used to haul materials for the dam across the flat top of the mountain.
Doppelmayr Garaventa Group operates various subsidiaries worldwide manufacturing ropeways under the Doppelmayr and Garaventa brands. Seven of these are responsible for manufacturing parts, namely Doppelmayr Seilbahnen GmbH (Austria), Garaventa AG (Switzerland), Doppelmayr Canada Ltd., Sanhe Doppelmayr Transport Systems Co., Ltd. (China), Doppelmayr France SAS, Doppelmayr Italia Srl, and Doppelmayr USA, Inc. The company’s core ropeway products include cable cars, funiculars, gondola lifts, detachable chairlifts, fixed grip chairlifts, and surface lifts. The company developed the “3S” tricable gondola lift, having acquired the technology from Von Roll Seilbahnen, and built lifts including those located in Kitzbühel (Austria), Koblenz (Germany) and Whistler-Blackcomb (Canada).
While the war was in progress, he was building a new branch railway line and an aerial ropeway to open up a new iron ore quarry at Cadia. However, by the time of the war, difficulties associated with the location of his plant at Lithgow had already become apparent to Hoskins, leading him to reconsider its long term future. Consequently, the further expansion of the Lithgow plant effectively ceased by the end of the war. Hoskins had offered to sell the plant to the N.S.W. Government in early 1914 but his offer was not taken up.
Mount Fuji and the port of Shimizu from Nihondaira is a scenic area located in Shimizu-ku, Shizuoka, Japan. A plateau at the centre of Shizuoka city, with a maximum altitude of , Nihondaira is famous for its views of Mount Fuji, the Izu Peninsula, the Japanese Southern Alps, Shimizu Port, and Suruga Bay. It was selected by the Tokyo Nichi Nichi Shimbun and Osaka Mainichi Shimbun as one of the top 100 Landscapes of Japan in 1927 and a National Place of Scenic Beauty of Japan in 1954. The Nihondaira Ropeway connects Nihondaira to Kunōzan Tōshō-gū in 5 minutes.
In the anime Hoozuki no Reitetsu, the rabbit is one of the best torturers in Hell, who goes into a blind rage when someone says the word tanuki/racoon. In the comedic anime Heya Camp, the main characters visit Mt. Kachi Kachi and relate the tale while riding the ropeway. They incorrectly recall the details however, mixing in portions of the fable The Tortoise and the Hare as well as leaving out the grim tone of the original, including stating “they all lived happily ever after”. All this serves to confuse the others sightseers in the cable car with them.
The site was a coal mine for over 400 years, with shafts being put in at Highley in 1870; and the river and then the railway were used to transport the coal.Shropshire Tourism A new shaft was sunk at Alveley in 1935, with production beginning in 1938 and being fully transferred from Highley by 1940.Shropshire History, Alveley Colliery (retrieved 17 August 2018) Sidings for the colliery on the Severn Valley Railway opened on 30 January 1939, with coal being transferred to the sidings via a ropeway across the river Severn. The mine finally closed as uneconomic in January 1969.
The Archeological Department of Andhra Pradesh has undertaken restoration and renovation works of the fort and the structures located within its precincts. The works cover improving link road to the fort from the National Highway, strengthening and restoring of historical walls, restoration of Jail Khana (prison house), Koneru pond and Museum, building a ropeway up to the hill, construction of inner roads, providing basic amenities such as three-phase power supply, drinking water and toilets, landscaping and setting up food courts.The museum located there contains relics found at that place along with display of Kondapalli Toys and lot of Historical references.
The Golden Peaks mill also processed ore brought to it by an aerial ropeway from new workings at Upper Ridges. Bulolo Gold Dredging (BGD) began operations at the sister town of Bulolo in 1932 and was responsible for the bulk of pre-war gold production: about 40 tonnes in total. Seven of the eventual eight dredges worked the Bulolo Valley gravels; one only, No. 6, worked in the Wau Valley. Large operations ceased to be attractive after WWII, partly due to pegging of the gold price at pre-war prices and the last dredge ceased operating in 1965.

Large pylons of aerial tramways usually consist of a steel framework construction, smaller pylons of gondola lifts are made of tubular steel. Early aerial tramways often had pylons of reinforced concrete and ropeway conveyors had timber pylons, if they were cheaper than steel pylons. Pylons are not designed as a stopping-off point for passengers or goods, but some are designed to allow maintenance staff access to the cars.

Tramway on Kailasagiri, Visakhapatnam The Port Vell Aerial Tramway in Barcelona, Spain An aerial tramway, sky tram, cable car, ropeway or aerial tram is a type of aerial lift which uses one or two stationary ropes for support while a third moving rope provides propulsion. With this form of lift, the grip of an aerial tramway cabin is fixed onto the propulsion rope and cannot be decoupled from it during operations. In comparison to gondola lifts, aerial tramways generally provide lower line capacities and higher wait times.
Continuing its ascent up the mountain, the route meets Aomori Prefecture Route 40, a route that provides access to the nearby memorial of the Hakkōda Mountains incident and then travels southeast to Towada, Aomori. Route 103 winds its way up the mountain where it reaches the Hakkōda Ropeway, a cable car that takes skiers and hikers to the peak of Mount Tamoyachi of the Hakkōda Mountains. After a short descent, the road meets Japan National Route 394 at a signaled intersection. Just a couple of kilometers from here is Sukayu Onsen, the snowiest inhabited place on earth famous for its 1,000 person mixed-use bath.
A shortage of shipping, under wartime conditions, made it sensible to mine local sources of iron ore in New South Wales, rather than rely upon ore carried by sea from South Australia. Cadia was among the largest of these local iron ore deposits and the branch line allowed its ore to be transported to Port Kembla. During this second period of operation, all operations were carried out by the N.S.W.G.R. Cadia could not re-enter production immediately; the old aerial ropeway was beyond repair and a new, inclined, cable-hauled skipway and 15-miles of power lines had to be installed. Iron ore production at Cadia recommenced in late 1942.
Ledston Hall featured in the television show Most Haunted:Live on 27 October 2007, but was called "Wheler Priory" for security reasons at the time (Wheler being the surname of the last family owning the hall). Ledston is also home to the Ledston Equine Centre located in the stables of Ledston Hall. Ledston lies to the east of the A656 road, and there was a railway station named after the village on the Castleford to Garforth line, though this station was actually adjacent to Allerton Bywater Colliery. The village also had a colliery named after it, Ledston Luck, which was connected to the railway via an aerial ropeway up to Micklefield.
Mt. Kachi Kachi and its Tenjō-Yama Park Mt. Kachi Kachi Ropeway refer to this story and have statues depicting portions of the story. Shikoku Tanuki Train Line railway station in Japan uses the slogan "Our trains aren't made of mud", a direct reference to the "Kachi-Kachi Yama" tale. In the video game Super Mario Sunshine, in the level "Noki Bay", Mario meets a "Tanooki" who gives free rides on mud boats, a clear reference to the boat that the tanuki in this tale used. While these boats can stay afloat, they will dissolve if they stay still for too long or if they bump into something.
This made Asahi Dam the deadliest of all the projects under the Hida River Integrated Watershed Development Plan. A 16-kilometer large-scale cable ropeway constructed to transport supplies to the construction site was reused by Hokuriku Electric Power Company in the construction of Arimine Dam on the Wada River (along the Jyōganji River water system) in Toyama City, Toyama Prefecture, and again reused by Tokyo Electric Power Company, Inc. in the construction of Nagawado Dam on the Sai River in Matsumoto City, Nagano Prefecture. Asahi Dam normally generates 6,700 kilowatts, up to a maximum of 20,500 kilowatts, via the downstream Asahi Power Plant.
The trails on the mountain generally rise in elevation fairly slowly, so the mountain is popular with recreational hikers. About northeast of Mount Naka Katsuragi on the Diamond Trail is (elevation ), and while the vertical distance is only about , the ascent is extremely steep and a difficult climb for those with little mountaineering experience. The peak is just off the Diamond Trail, a hiking trail centered on Mount Kongō. Even though it has many hikers traversing by its peak, most bypass Mount Naka Katsuragi on the way to Mount Jinpuku and after ascending to the base of Mount Kongō via the Mount Kongo Ropeway.
Following the demolition of the north battery, the overhead crane was also dismantled and the south battery was enlarged and converted to draw kilns. Following the dismantling of the crane, the kilns were loaded using a dragline excavator placed on the higher ground to the south and unloaded by a portable conveyor belt pushed into the draw holes. In the late-1950s, the overhead ropeway was dismantled and chalk was delivered from the quarry by use of either the lane from Hill Barn or the A286 road. In 1962, a new embanked roadway was built to provide a direct connection between the chalk pit and the lime kilns.
The construction of the hut goes back to a proposal by the Munich alpinist, Ferdinand Kilger, in 1890. This was taken up in 1895 by the Coburg branch of the German Alpine Club, a branch which had been founded in 1879. In 1901 the first hut was finished and, in the years that followed, it was given a water connexion (the "drinking quality water" was drawn from the Grünsteinsee, a lake which has now dried out), an electrical generator and, in 1908, a telephone line. After the First World War the building was extended for the first time and, in 1962, the material ropeway was built.
The narrow gauge tramway was replaced by a standard gauge line in 1942 which operated direct to the sidings without the need to tranship the ore onto the aerial ropeway. During this time the working face moved gradually northwards just to the east of the main road and Lamport Hall until the final workings were close to the village. In 1963 the final gullet was actually in the parish of Scaldwell, but it was very close to Lamport village to the west of the Lamport to Scaldwell road. Steam and later diesel quarrying machines were used and in 1942 an electric dragline was introduced.
The campus design motive is to preserve the existing land and its landscape with the climatic considerations of rain, breeze and moderate heat. The University possesses energy-efficient architecture as it believes in balancing all aspects of energy such as lighting, space-conditioning and ventilation by providing an optimized mix of passive solar design strategies. The major feature of the design is the amalgamation of the boundary wall with training activities. The wall is designed as an activity wall for running, jumping, crawling, climbing, tunnel training, commando training, ropeway training and muddy pathway training among others. The housing typology for faculty quarters and students’ hostels are developed upon the principles of courtyard housing.
Common land at Mynydd Rhiw and Mynydd y Graig was enclosed by Act of Parliament in 1811, and barley and oats were grown. Manganese was discovered in 1827; donkeys carried the ore to Porth Cadlan and Porth Neigwl, and in the late 19th century houses were built for industrial workers. By 1914 an aerial ropeway had been constructed, passing over the growing village to a jetty on the shore at Porth Neigwl. In World War I there was a great demand for manganese as a strengthening agent for steel, and the industry became a substantial employer in the village; over of ore were extracted during the lifetime of the mines, and in 1906 the industry employed 200 people.

By 1930 the original mine was worked out and the company went into liquidation. A new coal seam was found 3.5 km to the south; a new company, "Wilton Collieries Ltd", was formed to operate this line, which was known as the Waipa Railway and Collieries Limited private line, and from October 1944 as the Wilton Collieries Limited private line. Initially it had been planned to link the new mine to the railway by an aerial ropeway, but extending the railway was found to be more practicable.
Most of the city was completely destroyed by the 1921 earthquake; it took until 1928 to fully restore the port, hampering initially the Italian colonial ambitions. Between 1887 and 1932, they expanded the Eritrean Railway, connecting Massawa with Asmara and then Bishia near the Sudan border, and completed the Asmara-Massawa Cableway. At long, it was the longest ropeway conveyor in the world at the time.
The railway was eventually opened for traffic in 1909 and even had 1st and 2nd class accommodation. When Buchunan left in 1911, Kanan Devan had grown to over 11,500 acres, while Anglo – American had over 1500 acres under tea; there were only about 3000 acres held by others, much of which was eventually to be taken over by Malayalam Plantations. The mountain is a popular area for hikers and a toll road provides access by automobile to the top of the mountain; there are also buses that connect the mountaintop to town a few times a day. There are also two routes of funiculars: the Eizan Cable from the Kyoto side to the connecting point with an aerial tramway ("ropeway") to the top, and the Sakamoto Cable from the Shiga side to the foot of Enryaku-ji. The attractions on the mountain are quite spread out, so there are regular buses during the daytime connecting the attractions. The center for these is the bus center, in front of the entrance to the main temple complex at .
The Soviet Union, for its own part, closely monitored the state of transport infrastructure in German-occupied Crimea. Since June 1943, when Soviet intelligence learned that Nazi Germany was constructing a Kerch Strait bridge, information about it was allocated a special section in further intelligence reports. Soviet forces restored the ropeway and used it extensively to further the Kerch–Eltigen Operation. The Soviets also were interested in using a bridge: in January 1944, even before the liberation of Kerch by the Red Army (which would take place on 11 April, during the Crimean offensive), the State Defense Committee ordered the construction of a railway bridge across the strait, demanding that such bridge shall be ready by 15 July 1944.
Here there was a large water tank, with a pipeline running down the hillside below the aerial ropeway. This water powered the turbine room at Klondyke. In September 1901, a year after work had started on mill construction, George Grant Francis, consulting engineer to the parent company, reported to a shareholders' meeting of that company that they had, amongst other things at Pandora itself: The company financed this development by issuing many thousands of un-issued shares. The main north and south walls of the mill building are buttressed, and it is not known whether these buttresses were part of the original design, or whether they were added after the collapse mentioned above.
Considerable development took place at Kennesome Hill, including an aerial ropeway (referred to locally as the "Flying Machine") to convey output to a siding next to Langham Hill pit, where it was tipped into WSMR wagons. This arrangement lasted until 1876, after which ore was taken from the mine to Gupworthy by a horse-drawn tramway. The mine closed with its neighbours in 1879, but re-opened later the same year, going on with the Gupworthy pits to become the most productive of the orefield's final years; it closed for good in September 1883. In November 1877 the company was fined for not providing a proper platform for workers at the mine.
However, frequently at the range of the crossing section, special precautionary measures are taken. Thus, at overhead line crossings at which the overhead line runs above the rope of the aerial tramway, two catch ropes are occasionally installed to prevent the conductor from falling off the rope of the tramway in case a pylon or insulator were to break. Alternatively, auxiliary cross-bars can be installed on the pylons of the overhead line under the conductors, which prevent the conductor cables from falling in case of an insulator failure on the aerial tramway. Occasionally, the span field of the line over the aerial ropeway can be scaffolded with a rigid construction along its whole length, or at least for the span which crosses the aerial tramway.
The drainage finds its way to the Ayeyarwady River by three main streams, the Pwon, Ma-htun and Ma-de on the west, and by two, the Kye-ni and Hput on the east. Thayet has several salt and hot springs; petroleum has been found (three oil-wells were sunk in 1883 at Pedaukpin, but they were found unprofitable and abandoned), and extensive lime quarries exist a few miles south of the town of Thayetmyo. The limestone mining started sometime in the 1960s to supply a cement factory in Thayetmyo. The limestone quarries were rehabilitated in the early 1980s with German help (GTZ) when the aerial ropeway was replaced by trucks as the principal means of limestone transport from the quarry to the factory.
Later ironstone was sent to blast furnaces by the River Tees. When the mine at Rosedale Wyke began to run out Sir Charles Palmer established Grinkle ironstone mine to the east near the hamlet of Dalehouse and in 1875 a narrow- gauge railway line was built to the mine. The ironstone wagons from Grinkle Mine were taken over bridges then through a tunnel under Ridge Lane down a mile long inclined tunnel on a ropeway powered by a steam engine situated by the east pier then emerging in the cliff side 30 ft above sea level. The railway wagons were then led onto a gantry with bunkers on the east harbour wall ready for loading the ironstone directly into ships in the harbour.

The quarry, variously referred to Waberthwaite Quarry or Broadoak Quarry, is an outcrop of Eskdale Granite which was injected into the Earth's crust from below in the Ordovician period, around 450 million years ago. It is now an SSSI because its faces and outcrops provide excellent exposure of granodiorite rock, which is an unusual variety of Eskdale granite and is seldom well-exposed The quarrying and agricultural engineering company Ord and Maddison started extracting rock from the quarry in about 1883, but ceased operations in the 1890s because of transport difficulties in getting their product up a steep hill to the main road from where it could be taken by truck and steam engine to Eskmealas railway station. In 1905, the Eskmeals Granite Company took over the quarry and subsequently reached agreement with the Caddys of Rougholme for the erection of an aerial ropeway that could carry stone from the quarry over Caddy land to the railway sidings at Monkmoors near Eskmeals.
