The Revengers is the name of a team that appears in the Marvel Cinematic Universe 2017 film Thor: Ragnarok. The team is assembled by Thor out of necessity to escape the Grandmaster's domain and includes Thor himself, Valkyrie, Hulk and Loki with Korg, and Miek as associates. Thor appears to make up the name on the spot as he tries to reason that they all want revenge, though Banner claims that he is "undecided", Thor knowing that they can't use the proper term of Avengers as that name is taken, with himself and Banner as founding members. After making it to Asgard and confronting Hela, who makes short work of them, Thor quips that they should probably disband the Revengers.

Mercer was born in Oldham, Lancashire. On leaving school Mercer trained as an electrical engineer but decided to become an actor when he became an assistant stage manager at the Oldham Coliseum in 1979. His first television appearance was as a butcher in the film Blue Money in 1985. Mercer went on to work in such stage productions as Bent, Spend Spend Spend, Saturday Night, Sunday Morning, Billy Liar, Stop The Children's Laughter, Welcome Home, Romeo and Juliet, The Fancy Man, The York Realist, Beauty and the Beast and Revengers Tragedy.

Despite this, the Maker survives and emerged in the new Prime Earth, where he forms the science-based terrorist organization W.H.I.S.P.E.R. to continue experimenting for his own gain. His first experiment focuses on harnessing the souls of the dead to try and capture the souls of previous universes.New Avengers Vol 4 #1 Maker also assembles a new incarnation of the Revengers, with plans to have them face the New Avengers. He then focuses on Galactus. The Fantastic Five, A-Next, X-People, and Revengers all team up to stop Galactus. The Surfer's Power Cosmic and Scarlet Witch's reality-altering power combined enable Reed's machine to destroy Galactus's barrier, and Stinger, American Dream and Spider-Girl manage to reverse the effect of Galactus' device, causing him immense pain through an overload of energies. Death appears before Galactus in a vision, and she laments that though he'd ever been one of her most loyal advocates, Galactus was always destined to die.

Williams's breakthrough performance came in 1991 when she appeared in The Revengers' Comedies, for which she won the Critics' Circle Theatre Award; Most Promising Newcomer and an Olivier Award nomination for Best Comedy Performance. In 1993, she created the role of Carol in the London production of David Mamet's Oleanna. In 1997, Williams appeared opposite Michael Gambon in London's West End and on Broadway in David Hare's Skylight, (Olivier and Tony Award nominations). Revengers Tragedy was shot and edited in Liverpool with an almost entirely local crew, including cinematographer Len Gowing, costumer Monica Aslanian, makeup designer Lesley Brennan and assistant director Kim Ryan. Cox's usual production designer, Cecilia Montiel prepared a visual strategy which was executed by her co-designer Remi Vaughan-Richards. The producers were Margaret Matheson (who executive produced Cox's Sid and Nancy for Zenith) and Tod Davies (Cox's wife, who also wrote and produced Cox's Three Businessmen). The soundtrack of the same name was written and performed by Chumbawamba.

In 1986, Godley joined Alan Ayckbourn's theatre company in Scarborough, where he stayed for three seasons. Productions included June Moon and The Revengers' Comedies, both of which transferred to the West End, and Mr A's Amazing Maze Plays, which transferred to the National Theatre. He spent one season as a member of the Royal Shakespeare Company, before creating the role of Cliff in Sam Mendes's production of Cabaret at the Donmar Warehouse. Several major productions followed, including Mouth to Mouth at the Royal Court, The Front Page at the Donmar, and The Rivals in the West End.

Revengers Tragedy is a film adaptation of the 1606 play The Revenger's Tragedy (attributed to Thomas Middleton in the credits, following the scholarly consensus). It was directed by Alex Cox and adapted for the screen by Cox's fellow Liverpudlian, Frank Cottrell Boyce. The film stars Christopher Eccleston as the revenge-obsessed Vindice, with Derek Jacobi as the evil Duke, Eddie Izzard as his lecherous son Lussurioso, Diana Quick as the Duchess, Andrew Schofield as Vindice's brother Carlo (a version of the play's Hippolito), Carla Henry as his virtuous sister Castiza, and Marc Warren and Justin Salinger as the Duchess's sons Supervacuo and Ambitioso.

He has appeared as several real-life individuals, including Charlie Chaplin in The Cat's Meow, actor Gustav von Wangenheim in Shadow of the Vampire, and General Erich Fellgiebel in Valkyrie. Other roles have included Mr Kite in Across the Universe, Lussurioso in Revengers Tragedy and criminal expert Roman Nagel in Ocean's Twelve and Ocean's Thirteen. Izzard's voice work has included the titular "It" in Five Children and It, Nigel in The Wild and the mouse warrior Reepicheep in The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian. He declined to reprise his role as Reepicheep, a role understudied by Simon Pegg in The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader.

The Revengers, published in 1982, is a novel in the long-running secret agent series Matt Helm by Donald Hamilton. It was the first Helm book published since 1977 and the nineteenth book published overall since 1960. This book was seen as a reintroduction of the character after a five-year hiatus, including multiple references to past missions and with a younger-looking depiction of the character on the book cover (his origins as a Second World War assassin being played down). Beginning with this novel the page count of Hamilton's novels was also noticeably greater and this remained in place for the remainder of the series.

Schofield's best known film role is that of Johnny Rotten in Alex Cox's 1986 film Sid and Nancy. He appeared as Les in Terence Davies' Distant Voices, Still Lives, made a small cameo as a hotel receptionist in Three Businessmen, appears briefly in Hamlet and played Carlo in Revengers Tragedy. He has also recently made an independent short film called Leave Taking, and appeared in the Liverpool-based feature Under the Mud. Schofield appeared in a short film called Fifteen Minutes That Shook The World released in autumn 2010, written by Dave Kirby about Liverpool F.C.'s comeback in the Champions League final in 2005.

Although Davies' husband Alex Cox did not direct the project, the Writers Guild of America twice determined that their script be credited. She is the producer of Three Businessmen and Revengers Tragedy, the founder of Toxteth TV, an educational/media studio for young people, based in Liverpool, and the editor/publisher of the online magazine, Exterminating Angel Press. In 2005, she was Artist in Residence at St John's College, Oxford, and is a member of the Senior Common Room there. In 2009, Exterminating Angel Press became an independent press and published three books including The Supergirls by Mike Madrid, and Jam Today, a cooking memoir & the first book by Davies.

A Brussels theatre company called Atelier Sainte-Anne, led by Philippe Van Kessel, also staged the play in 1989. In this production, the actors wore punk costumes and the play took place in a disquieting underground location which resembled both a disused parking lot and a ruined Renaissance building. In 1976, Jacques Rivette made a loose French film adaptation Noroît, which changed the major characters into women, and included several poetic passages in English; it starred Geraldine Chaplin, Kika Markham, and Bernadette Lafont. In 2002, a film adaptation entitled Revengers Tragedy was directed by Alex Cox with a heavily adapted screenplay by Frank Cottrell Boyce.

Carla Henry is a British actress, most famous for her role as Donna in Queer As Folk. She trained at Bretton Hall College. Her performances in stage productions such as Storm (Contact Theatre) and Habitat (Royal Exchange) and On the Shore of the Wide World have seen her tackle a wide variety of roles. She played Kristin in the 2012 production of Miss Julie alongside Maxine Peake, Joe Armstrong and Liam Gerrard at the Royal Exchange Theatre in Manchester and was nominated for a best supporting actress award in the Manchester Theatre Awards She played Castiza in Alex Cox's film Revengers Tragedy and also appeared in his television film I'm A Juvenile Delinquent - Jail Me!.

After he met Michael Winterbottom, the two collaborated on Forget About Me. Winterbottom made five further films based on screenplays written by Cottrell-Boyce, Butterfly Kiss, Welcome to Sarajevo, The Claim, 24 Hour Party People and Code 46. Their 2005 collaboration, A Cock and Bull Story, is their last according to Cottrell-Boyce, who asked that his contribution be credited to "Martin Hardy", a pseudonym. He told Variety, "I just had to move on ... what better way to walk away than by giving Winterbottom a good script for free?" Other film directors Cottrell-Boyce has worked with include Danny Boyle (Millions), Alex Cox (Revengers Tragedy), Richard Laxton (Grow Your Own) and Anand Tucker (Hilary and Jackie).

Her last role before taking a three-year sabbatical, following the death of her mother and birth of her daughter, was in the BBC1 serial, Soul Survivors co-starring Ian McShane. She returned to acting in 1998, joining the soap opera Coronation Street, playing Jackie Dobbs. She left in 1999, and joined the cast of Five soap opera Family Affairs, staying for just under a year, as well as guesting in an episode of the BBC's Casualty. She also had roles in two films released in 2002, Revengers Tragedy (adapted from the 17th century play), directed by Alex Cox and 24 Hour Party People, the biopic of the Factory/Hacienda days in Manchester, which Clarke participated in during her 'Margox' days of the 1970s.
