The Duke of Wellington and contemporary accredited Cabrera as a noteworthy guerrilla leader. Cabrera's monogram as "Count of Morella" at Wentworth Estate, Cabrera's home Cabrera, who was ever afterwards regarded with contempt and execration by the Carlists, died in London on 24 May 1877. He did not receive much attention from the majority of his fellow- countrymen, who commonly said that his disloyalty to his old cause had proved more harmful to him than beneficial to the new state of things. A pension which had been granted to his widow was renounced by her in 1899 in aid of the Spanish treasury after the loss of the colonies.

Combat between the United States and Mexico took place in Baja California, American troops surprised by the fierce resistance of the Mexicans whom they had regarded with contempt. There were no border adjustments following peace in 1917, but there seems to be heavy reparations forced upon the Empire, perhaps on Teddy Roosevelt's part to foster a civil war (which did happen) down there to gain another ally and to threaten the Confederacy’s southern flank. In the 1920s, republican rebels, supported by the United States, attempted to overthrow the Empire (roughly parallel to the Mexican Revolution of our timeline). With the help of Confederate veterans and armor and air support, the republicans were defeated (a parallel to the Spanish Civil War).

With the reduction in size of the post-war army, many Champs were consigned to bulk vehicle storage and those employed in the Regular Army had relatively short careers before being redeployed to the Territorial Army. In the mid-1960s a decision was taken to withdraw the type from service completely, with all military Champs being sold off by 1968 although there is a record of one being sold by government auction as late as 1973. These mass sales made them cheap to buy (£150 being typical in 1966) and with fuel at low 1960s prices, many were bought as "fun" vehicles and used with little regard to the routine maintenance that the complex design required. Consequently, the Champ was regarded with contempt by the emerging military vehicle preservation fraternity and it took some 30 years for the type to earn historic value in its eyes.

In the manorial system they have no share in political power; however, workers on a manor were called up for service as men-at-arms when the need arose (An Excellent Mystery).
