The United States will have a hard time solving problems in the Mideast without Tehran's cooperation: in Lebanon, where it backs the Shiite militant group Hezbollah; in Syria, where it is propping up the government of President Bashar al-Assad; in Iraq, where it supports the government of Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi and trains powerful Shiite militias; and in Yemen, where to some extent, it is backing the Houthi rebels against the government.

Centered on a fictionalized version of the New York skate collective Skate Kitchen — and featuring an acting ensemble made up largely of members of that collective — the movie follows a young skater, Camille (Rachelle Vinberg), who rebels against her restrictive mother by taking the Long Island Rail Road into Lower Manhattan, where she finds solace in the support of fellow Instagram-loving skaters and strikes up a romance with a young photographer played by Jaden Smith.

Almost any other failing would have been met with indulgence, for I was there in my capacity as an author, therefore an artist, therefore someone who might cut off his own ear, someone who might spew out obscenities, someone who might be drunk, maybe even shoot up some heroin in his bathroom; if substance abuse is foolish and infantile, it is also formidable, at least in the case of the artist, whose spirit rebels against conformity.
