Hong Kong (CNN)Children of parents detained in China's vast system of "re-education camps" in the far west region of Xinjiang are being separated from their families and placed in huge, purpose-built boarding schools as part of a "coordinated state campaign" to provide "full-time or near full-time care for all children from a very young age," new research has found.

On his website, Madden, who says he watches North Korean news programs every day, notes that media figures at KCTV "are routinely subjected to generational and political personnel attrition," and that while "Ri has seen many of her colleagues and supervisors dismissed, demoted or sent for re-education," she has not (although a brief disappearance in 2011 had North Korea watchers wondering if she had finally been deposed).
