They climb down the shaft, to find the two Quagmire triplets trapped in a cage at the bottom of the shaft. The Baudelaires return to the penthouse to find tools with which they can free the Quagmires, but they return to find that Gunther has cast the Quagmires away already.

The townsfolk decide to execute him but the day before his execution, the suspect has been murdered and Count Olaf blames the children. The children are arrested; they manage to escape the jail and find the Quagmires, having found the hidden message in Isadora's couplets. The Quagmires escape with Hector in a hot air balloon built by Hector, but the children are forced to flee the town.

The Quagmires' situation is similar to that of the Baudelaire orphans -- they are triplets, but their brother, Quigley Quagmire, died in a fire along with their parents. When Olaf leaves the apartment complex without passing the doorman, the orphans search for a secret exit, and discover that there is an extra elevator door on the 66th floor which leads to an empty elevator shaft. The children make a rope and lower themselves down until they reach a room in which they find Duncan and Isadora Quagmire trapped in a cage. The Baudelaires climb back up the shaft to find a means of rescue for Quagmires, but when they return the triplets are gone. The children return and find Esmé, who tells them she is working with Olaf, then pushes them into the shaft, where they are caught in a net.

Tate Britain (Millbank) The area derives its name from a watermill owned by Westminster Abbey that once stood at a site close to present day College Green. Norden's survey, taken during the reign of Elizabeth I in 1573, records the existence of such a mill although much of the area that comprises Millbank today, was referred to by Samuel Pepys and others as Tothill Fields. Described as a place of plague pits and a "low, marshy locality" suitable for shooting snipe in the nearby "bogs and quagmires". As the season commenced Glenorchy, Launceston and Burnie were touted amongst most of the State's football writers as premiership favourites with Clarence also looming on the horizon as an ever-present threat. Poor weather would plague the season, with several grounds falling victim to heavy Winter rain across the State, Hobart received its wettest Winter since 1954 (and wettest year since 1958), rendering most grounds into quagmires, most notably the TCA Ground, KGV Football Park, Lauderdale Oval and North Hobart Oval all being closed by their respective Councils for long periods or even having matches moved away from them. Both West Park and Devonport Oval would also suffer from the deluge and similarly would end up in very poor condition. As it panned out, Burnie and Glenorchy led the competition for almost the entire season, with Clarence making a late charge after an indifferent start to the season.

After waiting for the weather to abate Western Front attacked on August 4 following a powerful artillery preparation which destroyed or suppressed roughly 80 percent of the German forces' weapons. 8th Guards Corps, in the first echelon of 20th Army, breached the defenses south of Pogoreloe Gorodishche allowing the Army's mobile group, the 2nd Guards Cavalry Corps, to begin to exploit in the direction of Sychyovka. 31st Army was similarly successful to the north and by the end of August 6 the gap in the German front was up to 30km wide and Soviet troops had penetrated to a depth of 25km, closing on the Gzhat and Vazuza rivers.

During his term as governor of Texas, Bush was satirized on The Simpsons episode "Two Bad Neighbors" when his parents George and Barbara move in across the street from the Simpsons and Homer and Bart Simpson trick the elder Bush into answering the door with two cardboard cutouts of George W. and Jeb Bush. According to the show's creators, they were unaware that George and Barbara Bush's eldest son was actually named George and said that the term "George Bush, Jr." was intended to be a joke about the stupidity of Homer and Bart's plans. In a reference to the same episode, Homer has a photo album, stating "Here's me beating up former President Bush, here's me beating up current President Bush, and here's me showing a sack of apples who's boss." In The Father, The Son, and the Holy Guest Star, while Bush isn't directly referenced by name, Homer makes a passing reference to a "Commander Cuckoo Bananas" causing a lot of American military quagmires, which serves as a thinly veiled metaphore for Bush.

Late summer of 2006, after a season in Ocean City, Chris played with the New York Red Bulls before signing with Miami FC of the USL First Division, playing in 21 games and was 4th on the team in minutes played. The fall of 2007, he was drafted 1st round, 4th overall and eventually signed with the Philadelphia KiXX of Major Indoor Soccer League. He played the 2007-2008 MISL season with the KiXX, then rejoined Miami FC for the 2008 summer season. The winter of 2008 saw Williams go on trial and sign with Danish 2nd Division club Blokhus FC, however the contract was mutually annulled before Williams returned to Denmark. While on trial with Blokhus Williams was identified by 1st division side Thisted FC landing him a trial with the club after his annulled contract. Williams was set to return to Thisted in the summer window of 2009, however due to some financial quagmires at the club he was not brought back. In December 2009, Miami FC welcomed Chris Back to the team. After this season, Williams signed with Đà Nẵng of the V-League, the top division in Vietnam .

In an interview with a Canadian Broadcasting Corporation programme, Iyad el-Baghdadi, President of the Al-Kawakibi Democracy Transition Center (an NGO) made this prediction as to the future of the relationship between the two countries. "Mohammad bin Salman has a tendency to start large actions that end up as quagmires, and I think unfortunately this is going to last for a while", and noted that while this was the first time Saudi Arabia had reacted this way to a western country, such reactions from Saudi Arabia had become "routine within the region". On 27 August, the Saudi Ministry of Education informed the 1,053 Saudi medical residents and fellows in Canada that they can "continue in their positions" and they no longer have to leave Canada by 31 August. According to Canadian-based Global News, Saudi state-owned television Al Arabiya "has suggested that Canada is the worst country in the world for women, that it has the highest suicide rate and that it treats its Indigenous people the way Myanmar treats the Rohingya – a Muslim minority massacred and driven out of Myanmar en masse" which was described by Global News as "fake news" published by the Saudi television outlet.
