Two minutes later, Charlie Adam put Blackpool ahead for the first time with a diving header after DJ Campbell's strike came back off the underside of the crossbar. Saha completed his hat-trick on 76 minutes to restore the balance. Jermaine Beckford put David Moyes' side ahead again in the 80th minute, before Saha scored his fourth and Everton's fifth to round out the scoring. Blackpool, with their fifth successive Premier League defeat and their eighth game of nine overall, dropped two places to 15th.
Three days later Shaun Cummings became the latest player to commit his future to the club, signing a new two-and-a-half-year contract. The news was followed by confirmation that, despite initial hopes his injury sustained in November was not too serious, Alex McCarthy had been forced to undergo shoulder surgery, potentially ruling him out for the rest of the season. Reading's next league game was an away trip to Southampton on 8 December which they lost 1–0. A second half Jason Puncheon goal was enough to secure the win for Southampton in a game they dominated.
He started against Sunderland on 15 March, a match that also ended 0–0, and then did not make another appearance for over a month. He was an unused substitute for the next six Premier League matches, as manager Tony Pulis preferred to play Yannick Bolasie and Jason Puncheon on the wings. He came off the bench in a 2–0 defeat to Manchester City on 27 April and in a 3–3 draw against Liverpool on 5 May before starting the final game of the season, a 2–2 draw with Fulham on 11 May.
Wolf Laurel, North Carolina, is an unincorporated, private gated community, located in Madison and Yancey Counties of Western North Carolina. The unincorporated community is located approximately 30 miles north of Asheville, North Carolina, 6 miles from interstate 26 and borders the Cherokee National Forest, Tennessee state line and Appalachian Trail. It is named after Wolf Laurel Branch, which flows into Puncheon Fork after leaving the community upstream. The community is composed mostly of summer and part-time residences, nestled within the valleys and perched on the slopes of the Walnut Mountains, at elevations ranging from 3500 to over 5500 feet in altitude.

The blue-blazed trail, 1.6 miles (2.6 km) long follows another ridge up to the junction with the Burroughs Range Trail on the summit ridge. Just above the signs indicating the camping and fire restrictions that NYSDEC has put in place for areas above 3,500 feet (1,067 m) in the Catskills to protect the montane forests, there are two viewpoints just off the trail. One takes in Table and Lone mountains; the other offers the only good glimpse of the lowest High Peak, remote and challenging Rocky Mountain. Despite his willingness to begin talks with Bournemouth over a new contract, McQuoid instead signed for Championship club Millwall on loan on 25 November 2010, with a view to a permanent move taking place in the January transfer window. Eddie Howe later stated that McQuoid's departure had a negative impact on the squad's confidence. He debuted as a half-time substitute for Calvin Andrew in a 3–0 win at home to Scunthorpe United on 4 December. McQuoid provided an assist for Jason Puncheon, who later scored a hat-trick, in a 3–0 win over rivals Crystal Palace. In 1878, to celebrate the completion of the cellar, Benno selected a puncheon (500 litre barrel) of his finest wine and declared that the barrel would be allowed to mature for 100 years. Thus was the idea of the "Seppelt Para 100 year old Tawny Port" born. Every year since 1878, the winery has set aside more of its finest wine for 100 years of barrel maturation. Just before the hour mark, however, the Saints finally broke the deadlock when Gastón Ramírez found himself free of the West Ham defence and, on the second attempt, slotted the ball into the visitors' net. The lead was sacrificed just seven minutes later, as a Jos Hooiveld-conceded free kick was scored scrappily by Andy Carroll to put the Hammers in with a chance of points. The Saints responded quickly however, as both substitute midfielders James Ward-Prowse and Jason Puncheon linked up well to equalise for Pochettino's side eight minutes later. It was the visitors who came out in the second half firing however, as Franco Di Santo broke the deadlock six minutes after the break with a powerful shot from inside the area. With chances opening for both sides, Athletic put the game beyond the hosts in the last minute, when a defensive error gave Ivorian Arouna Koné the chance to end the game, leaving Southampton in the relegation zone. ;Manchester United (2 September 2012) On 2 September the Saints hosted last season's runners-up Manchester United in their third game on the season. Rickie Lambert opened the scoring for the home side with his second goal of the season in the 16th minute, heading in a Jason Puncheon cross.
The Saints started the game well, as defender José Fonte scored in the fourth minute with a header from Adam Lallana's corner to put the home side a goal up early. A few minutes later, right-back Frazer Richardson had to leave the game with a leg injury, and was replaced with centre-back Jos Hooiveld with Maya Yoshida moving to the right side of defence. Southampton continued to dominate the rest of the first half, with Rickie Lambert and Jason Puncheon coming close to increasing the team's lead, but the score remained 1–0 going into half time. Fulham improved after the break, and in the 69th minute the visitors equalised when Jos Hooiveld turned John Arne Riise's shot into his own goal.
Just before half time team captain Adam Lallana received an injury, and was replaced by Gastón Ramírez who had not started the match. After the break the Saints continued to pressure the visitors, and in the 61st minute Jason Puncheon finally broke the deadlock to put Southampton one up. More chances went the way of the Saints, including late chances for Guly do Prado and Jack Cork, and ultimately the side held on to pick up the three points and move out of the relegation zone once again. ;Sunderland (22 December 2012) After a weekend without a game due to Chelsea's FIFA Club World Cup commitments, Southampton returned to St Mary's on 22 December to face Sunderland, who sat just one position above them in the table.

The trackways date to the 4th and 7th century AD, both linked the eastern and western shores of the formerly inaccessible, swampy bog.
Sadio Mané opened the scoring with his 15th goal in all competitions just before half time to put the Saints 1–0 at the break. Graziano Pellè came on as a substitute in the second half and doubled the scoreline in the 61st minute, before former Southampton midfielder Jason Puncheon pulled one back for Palace. Defender Ryan Bertrand scored his only goal of the season in a penalty kick in the 75th minute, before Steven Davis finished the scoring in the final five minutes of normal time to complete the win. The win, as well as results in other matches, saw Southampton move up to fifth in the Premier League table and secure a return to the UEFA Europa League the following season.
Just before the half time break, Jason Puncheon made it 2–0 for the Saints with a solo strike beating QPR goalkeeper Júlio César. Early into the second half however, Southampton conceded a goal when Canadian winger Junior Hoilett took advantage of individual mistakes to bring the home side back into the game. The remainder of the second half was relatively even, with both sides having a number of chances to score, but it was Southampton who eventually scored another when Morgan Schneiderlin took a shot in the 83rd minute which was deflected in by defender Anton Ferdinand. ;Newcastle United (25 November 2012) On Sunday 25 November Southampton hosted Newcastle United in a match which saw the first return of former Saints manager Alan Pardew since his dismissal in August 2010.
The hosts dominated the majority of the match, although were unable to break the deadlock until Daniel Agger headed in a Glen Johnson cross just before half time. Throughout the second half Liverpool continued to enjoy goal-scoring chances, particularly for Luis Suárez, and it ended 1–0 with Southampton having very few chances at all to equalise. ;Reading (8 December 2012) Southampton returned to St Mary's the following week to face Reading, who sat just three points behind 18th-placed Southampton in 19th position in the table. The game started relatively evenly with a number of chances for each side, with the home side's best chance coming after half an hour when Jason Puncheon turned in a corner to score a goal then disallowed for pushing in the penalty area.
The visitors came out with much more confidence in the second period, and within two minutes of coming on in the 58th minute Rickie Lambert scored a header from a Nathaniel Clyne cross to bring Southampton back into the game. The team continued the pressure on Chelsea, and eventually scored a second when Luke Shaw crossed for Jason Puncheon to volley into the top corner, and the side held on to take a point from the match and move one away from Newcastle below them. ;Everton (21 January 2013) Southampton's home game against Everton was the first with Mauricio Pochettino in charge. The following Monday, Southampton hosted 5th- placed Everton in the return leg of their 3–1 loss at Goodison Park, for the first match with manager Mauricio Pochettino in charge.

DE 1 runs north along the west side of Bay Road before it passes over it, where there is a southbound exit and entrance and a northbound entrance that serves to provide access to DE 10 from southbound DE 1 and to northbound DE 1 from DE 10\. Immediately after this is a southbound exit and northbound entrance with the Puncheon Run Connector freeway, which heads west towards US 13\. The freeway continues north along the eastern edge of Dover and comes to a southbound exit and northbound entrance at DE 8, which provides access to downtown Dover to the west and the town of Little Creek to the east. Past this interchange, the highway turns northwest through rural areas, crossing the Little River before it comes to the Dover mainline toll plaza.
Despite winning the subsequent penalty shoot-out, the Saints could not overhaul the points lead of their opponents and it was Arsenal who won the second Memorial Cup and joined Athletic Bilbao on the honours list. Travelling to a French training camp later in the month, the Saints played Étoile Carouge on 18 July and faced Evian Thonon Gaillard on 21 July. In the first match, Southampton came back from a 1–0 deficit to win 4–1, with a goal from Luke Shaw and a late hat-trick from Billy Sharp. In the second, the Saints won by a single first-half goal from Jason Puncheon. Back in England, St Mary's hosted Dutch champions Ajax on 28 July, with the visitors securing a 1–0 win with a second half goal from winger Aras Özbiliz.
Following this, the Saints made their first big signing under Markus Liebherr as they unveiled new striker Rickie Lambert who was purchased on 10 August 2009, for an initial £800,000, which could rise to £1m subject to appearances, from fellow League One side Bristol Rovers. Liebherr also brought in Italian businessman Nicola Cortese to look after the club's business interests on his behalf. As well as Rickie Lambert, Pardew was given the funds to complete a string of other signings to rebuild the squad including: Dean Hammond, Radhi Jaïdi, Graeme Murty, Dan Harding, David Connolly, Michail Antonio, Papa Waigo, Lee Barnard, José Fonte, Danny Seaborne, Jon Otsemobor and Jason Puncheon, meaning that by the end of the January transfer window, Southampton had spent over £3 million on players, a significantly larger amount than any other League one club.
The highway became a freeway along the edge of Dover Air Force Base. US 113 had a diamond interchange with Old Lebanon Road, which served the main gate of the air force base to the northeast and base housing to the southwest. At the next interchange, a partial cloverleaf interchange with the eastern end of DE 10 (Lebanon Road) next to the military base's north gate, US 113 exited onto Bay Road while DE 1 continued on the Korean War Veterans Memorial Highway. The U.S. Highway had ramps from northbound US 113 to northbound DE 1, from southbound US 113 to southbound DE 1, and from southbound DE 1 to US 113 just south of its partial interchange with the Puncheon Run Connector freeway, which connected DE 1 and US 113 with US 13 on the south side of Dover.
On 5 January 2013, Southampton hosted FA Cup holders Chelsea in the Third Round of the tournament. The Saints started strongly in the first half, breaking the deadlock in the 22nd minute courtesy of a Jay Rodriguez strike set up by Jason Puncheon, but could not hold the lead until the break as Chelsea striker Demba Ba scored on his debut just over ten minutes later, before Victor Moses scored the away side's second on the stroke of half time. Shortly after the break the hosts conceded again when Branislav Ivanović headed in a Juan Mata cross, and Ba made it 4–1 for the reigning champions on the hour mark. In the last ten minutes Chelsea were awarded a penalty for a handball by Steven Davis, and substitute captain Frank Lampard converted confidently to seal a 5–1 win at St Mary's, knocking Southampton out of the competition.
In the team's opening pre-season game, during a two- match friendly tour of Switzerland, Southampton lost 4–2 to home side FC Thun. The Saints were 3–0 down at half-time, with goals coming from Ezequiel Scarione, Muhamed Demiri and Nick Proschwitz, and went another goal down after the break when Milaim Rama beat substitute goalkeeper Tommy Forecast. Southampton finally scored their first goal of the pre-season period halfway through the second half, when Dean Hammond converted a cross from David Connolly, and four minutes later captain José Fonte scored a second consolation goal from a Jason Puncheon corner. The club's tour of Switzerland heralded another unsuccessful game four days later, when French side FC Sochaux-Montbéliard beat Southampton 2–0; both goals came in the second half, from Ryad Boudebouz and Nicolas Maurice-Belay in the 50th and 60th minutes, respectively.
After releasing eight players at the beginning of the season, Southampton signed Croatian centre back Dejan Lovren from French side Lyon for a fee reported to be in the region of £8.5 million. The club later broke their record transfer fee twice, first signing Kenyan midfielder Victor Wanyama from Scottish club Celtic for £12.5 million and later enlisting Italian striker Dani Osvaldo for £15 million. Defender Vegard Forren and midfielder Richard Chaplow left the club in July, winger Jason Puncheon joined Crystal Palace on loan for the season, former team captain Dean Hammond was sold to Leicester City, and striker Emmanuel Mayuka joined French side Sochaux-Montbéliard on loan for the season. In the January transfer window, Tadanari Lee and Aaron Martin were released from the club; Billy Sharp, Lee Barnard and Danny Fox left on loan deals; and Jason Puncheon's loan deal with Crystal Palace was made permanent.
Crystal Palace took the lead in the 78th minute when Jason Puncheon brought the ball down from a ball played into the penalty box by Joel Ward and cut in on the left before firing past David de Gea at his near post with his left foot. Juan Mata equalised in the 81st minute, scoring from ten yards out with a low shot from the left after a chest down from Marouane Fellaini following a cross from Wayne Rooney on the right, with the ball taking a slight deflection and going through the legs of Joel Ward on the goal line. The match went to extra-time and just before the end of the first period, Chris Smalling was sent-off for a tackle on Yannick Bolasie near the halfway line. With 10 minutes to go, Jesse Lingard scored the winner for Manchester United with a right foot volley from inside the penalty area which flew past Wayne Hennessey before he could move.
Southampton later travelled to another training camp in the Wörthersee region of Austria, where they faced German side Schalke 04 at the Stadion Villach Lind on 24 July. The Saints started the game positively, with Rickie Lambert and Jay Rodriguez forming a strong partnership up front, but Schalke goalkeeper Timo Hildebrand was on form to deny efforts from Lloyd Isgrove and Jason Puncheon. With the introduction of striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar though, Schalke came out into the second half the stronger side, with the Dutch 2010 FIFA World Cup runner-up enjoying the majority of his team's chances before breaking the deadlock just before the hour mark. Despite making six changes in response to the opening goal, Southampton were unable to get back into the game as Joël Matip scored past substitute goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga less than ten minutes after Huntelaar's first, and saw the game out without conceding to see the Saints pick up their first pre-season loss of the campaign.
He later provided the assist for a Jason Puncheon equaliser in the penultimate match of the season against fellow strugglers Sunderland on 12 May, picking up play from strikers Jay Rodriguez and Rickie Lambert to cross for the winger to secure an important point for Southampton in the 75th minute of play. Despite making 15 league appearances for his club throughout the season, many of these came as a substitute, and as a result it was reported at the end of the season that Ward-Prowse was "not content sitting on the bench". The midfielder did, however, win the Scholar of the Season accolade at the Southampton club awards ceremony in May, beating academy teammates Luke Shaw and Dominic Gape to the title. At the beginning of the 2013–14 season, Ward-Prowse came into favour with manager Mauricio Pochettino to start the first match of the season against West Bromwich Albion, almost scoring in one of the few attacking moves of an otherwise uneventful encounter which ended 1–0 to Southampton thanks to a last-minute penalty from Lambert.
DJ Campbell equalised three minutes later, before Jason Puncheon put the hosts ahead just inside twenty minutes. Bolton pulled level five minutes later with a strike from Matthew Taylor. Just before the break, Campbell put Blackpool back in front with his second of the game and 13th of the campaign. On 63 minutes, Charlie Adam fired in his eleventh League goal for what proved to be the winner. It was a repeat scoreline of the 1953 "Matthews Final", and the late winger's first and last club, Stoke City, appeared in their first FA Cup Final, against Manchester City, later in the day. In front of 75,000 fans, Park Ji-sung put the home side ahead after 21 minutes.
