An earlier version of the song, titled "Psycho Ward", was being written by Nova before Bloom offered to contribute some lyrics, coming up with the chorus. The song reached #11 on the Billboard Mainstream Rock chart. A music video was created for the song and was featured on MTV.

The Strikers have toured with bands such as The Chop Tops, Frenzy, and Three Bad Jacks, and have also shared the stage with bands The Headcat, The Meteors, Mad Sin, Zombie Ghost Train, and As I Lay Dying. The following morning, Fletcher goes to Cope's office and tells him that he framed Adrienne and that she "knows nothing about it". Cope refuses and replies that "everybody knows you're stuck on this girl", but she's being held in the psychopathic ward until the trial. Fletcher has an expert (unbilled George McKay) show him the psycho ward layout, then goes out wearing an incongruous outfit and says to Officer Mulcahy (unbilled Dell Henderson), "Can you tell me where I can find a policeman?" and continues, "A woman without an umbrella… across the street… there she was… Fifth Avenue… streetcar… John pulled a gun… and shot the baby… no ambulance around when he arrived…" and when Mulcahy asks, "What do you mean?", continues, "Why, you dumb flatfoot, woman without an umbrella… Johnson Troy shooting fast… forty-fifth street… cooled off fast… pulled out a gun, hit the pillow, shot the baby, no ambulance around when the elephant got there…", then punches Mulcahy, causing himself to be committed into the man's psycho ward which adjoins the women's ward where Adrienne is held under the watchful eye of a matron (unbilled Betty Farrington).

Danny Sloan is an art student who works in a record shop. He visits his friend Billy (Dov Tiefenbach), who is in drug rehab in hospital. Billy suggests Danny goes to see the "psycho ward" before he leaves, to see Byron Volpe (Patrick Kilpatrick), a serial killer kept in a padded cell after being convicted of murdering his wife Madeline (Sean Young) by hypnotizing her into jumping from a building. Volpe is explained to have extraordinary powers of hypnotism, and is kept restrained and hooded to stop hospital staff from seeing his eyes.

In 1994, O'Brien sent up his soap opera star past by taking a regular role in Psycho Ward 10, a soap opera parody in The All New Alexei Sayle Show. O'Brien took on the role of surgical registrar Mr. Cyril "Scissors" Smedley in the popular BBC series Cardiac Arrest through the second and third series between 1995 and 1996. He later, starred in television series Queer as Folk, White Collar Blue, Hell Has Harbour Views and Gossip Girl. O'Brien has appeared in numerous mini-series, including The Day of the Roses and Through My Eyes (the story of Lindy Chamberlain).

"The Door to This House Remains Open" is a drum and bass song that has been likened to the music of Boards of Canada by Yahoo! Music, while "Some Things Come From Nothing" is a post-punk dub track that was called "the closest a rock band will come to the cracked ambience of Aphex Twin" by the NME.
