Poet Musa Ćazim Ćatić served as editor in chief, often writing poems, essays, criticism, and translations of numerous studies and books for the magazine. Due to the outbreak of World War I in 1914, Biser halted production until 1918 when Kalajdžić began printing again in 1918 to avoid being drafted into the army. Biser ended its run in 1919.

Both magazines' operations were moved from Chicago to Culver City. Williams planned the 2003 revamp of Femme Fatales as a version of the men's magazine Maxim focusing on actresses in science fiction and horror films. After a brief hiatus, Mark Gottwald took over publication and Femme Fatales began printing again in at the end of 2007 as a bi-monthly magazine. The final issue of Femme Fatales was printed in September 2008 and featured Jolene Blalock on the cover.

Alexander Hamilton gifted a grant to Fenno in 1790 and 1791, and Fenno also received control of the Senate's and most of the Department of Treasury's printing business. Even after the grants, Fenno's debt continued to grow until 1793, when he stopped the publication of the Gazette. He solicited Hamilton, who raised an amount of money about equal to Fenno's debt. On December 11, 1793, the newspaper started printing again as the Gazette of the United States & Evening Advertiser, a now daily publication.

After the death of James in 1902 the paper was sold to Joseph Wright who operated a printing works in Hill Street. The paper would be in Wrights ownership for just seven years before a fire at the works saw Wright move to Canada. Robert Sands acquired the rights to the paper and began printing again after a four-month stoppage since the fire. In 1912 the paper moved offices from Clanrye Grain Mills (owned by Sands) to Margaret Street, where it remains to this day.

Artist Salvador Larroca has stated that he "wasn't a big fan" of the original New Universe, while Ellis has mentioned that he "paid little or no attention" to the New Universe books when they were first published. On December 14, 2006, Marvel announced that newuniversal #1 had sold out through Diamond Comic Distributors and that a second printing would be released, with a new variant cover by artist Esad Ribic. Marvel later reported that newuniversal #2 had sold out and would also be reissued as a second printing—again, with a variant cover by Esad Ribic. After issue #6, newuniversal went on hiatus and Salvador Larroca left the project.

Release of the book was planned for March 14, but it was accidentally available two days earlier because the publisher failed to instruct book shops about the embargo for the intended date. In many stores, the book sold out on March 12, and the initial printing of 10,000 was already almost exhausted by March 13; a second printing, again of 10,000 copies, had already been ordered one day prior. Fortuyn's assassination on May 6 helped to augment the sales of Puinhopen even further. Between May 6 and May 16, 2002, Karakter had to order three new printings together consisting of over 25,000 copies, bringing total circulation up until that point to 125,000.

After deciding to evacuate on Tuesday, August 30, because of rising floodwaters and possible security threats, the newspaper and web staff set up operations at The Houma Courier and in Baton Rouge, on the Louisiana State University campus. A small team of reporters and photographers volunteered to stay behind in New Orleans to report from the inside on the city's struggle, looting, and desperation. They armed themselves for security and worked out of a private residence. The August 30, August 31, and September 1 editions were not printed, but were available online, as was the paper's breaking news blog: After three days of online-only publication, the paper began printing again, first in Houma, La., and beginning September 15, 2005, in Mobile, Ala.

Additionally, the first wave of Rebirth one-shots – Batman: Rebirth, Green Lanterns: Rebirth, Superman: Rebirth and Green Arrow: Rebirth – also received second printings, with a recolored Rebirth banner to differentiate it from the original printing. A fourth printing featured a cover by Ethan Van Sciver depicting the scene where Wally West interrupts Batman in the Batcave, with the image of three Jokers on the Batcomputer. DC Universe: Rebirth Specials fifth printing, announced in August 2016, featured a new cover by Phil Jimenez that depicts Barry Allen and Wally West grabbing each other's hands.

James had a brother, Patrick Watson, also a printer, apprenticed to George Mosman, printer in Edinburgh. Patrick ended in court accused of stealing tools and type-face to pass to James in 1698. This was found not proven but continuation of the apprenticeship proved impossible and the sum paid for this to Mosman (£100) had to be repaid.Scottish Historical Review: April 1910 In 1700 an Alexander Watson, printer is noted, burying his child at Greyfriars Kirkyard, and may also be related. Watson’s son, again James Watson, attended the High School in Edinburgh and Edinburgh University and was then sent abroad to study printing (again probably Holland), however he died in his youth and did not follow in his father’s footsteps.
