A complement of 12 nuns compared respectably with the wealthier provincial houses. Katherine Pilley ruled the house praiseworthily for eighteen years. She grew old and blind in her office, and in 1432 resigned her place. In his visitation of 1433 Bishop William Alnwick made special arrangements for Katherine's comfort and support in her old age.

De Ruyter Medal (Dutch: De Ruyter-medaille) was created by royal decree no. 1 on 23 March 1907 by Queen Wilhelmina of the Netherlands, to be awarded to those members of the Dutch Merchant fleet who distinguish themselves by praiseworthily acts of duty for the Dutch Ship transport. The medal can be awarded in gold, silver or bronze. Awarding is on basis by nomination of the Netherlands government and by royal decree.

The meeting, which had begun with much enthusiasm ended less praiseworthily: during a drinking binge, an argument, and then a fight, broke out. When in the end the movement was beaten by the Prussians, the militiamen wished they had never said or done anything. In 1866, four men from Neu-Bamberg went to war in the Prussian forces against Austria, fighting in the Austro-Prussian War, among them Philipp and Michael Bremmer, who also fought alongside 17 others from the village in the Franco-Prussian War (1870–1871); one of them did not come back from the latter war. It was, however, not only war and other disputes that defined village life at that time.

The Resistance Star East Asia () was created by royal decree on 26 October 1948 by Queen Juliana to honor those the Dutch subjects in the Netherlands East Indies who showed strength of mind, determination, or solidarity, and performed praiseworthily help for Dutchmen that were made prisoner of war or interned by the enemy during World War II. Also those of the Dutch resistance in Southeast Asia are honored. The star commemorates the resistance against the Japanese occupation of Indonesia, that went underground after the capitulation of the Royal Dutch East Indies Army. This resistance suffered tremendous losses in live. The bronze six-pointed star with a flaming sun and the words "de geest overwint" (English: the spirit triumphs) was designed by Frans Smits.
