To this end, students petitioned the Alameda Unified District Board for two portables, which they received. The school was relatively isolated from shops and houses.
The School Board Proposal was to absorb the Halifax West community into the other high schools in the HRM, however the outrage from the community quickly stopped these plans. At the meeting, other options were discussed, including using the building of a new junior high school that was yet to open in the Clayton Park West neighbourhood. Other plans were for many portables to be used to accommodate the classes.
The building had a design capacity of 1,423 students; as a result, 11 "portables" were in use to provide additional classroom space. A new building was scheduled for completion for the graduating class of 2010. The current Bel Air High School building was built in 2009, and has a capacity of 1,668 students. Some new features of the school are its auditorium/stage, cafeteria, library, and multiple sports facilities.
The exterior buildings of the school, including the portables, were demolished, except for the auto shop. Only the main building of the campus was kept and remodeled, including a new library and computer lab in a portion of the commons/cafeteria. The remodeled campus was named West Valley High School: Freshman Campus. The building was completed for the beginning in 2010, before the start of the new school year.
All gas detectors must be calibrated on a schedule. Of the two form factors of gas detectors, portables must be calibrated more frequently due to the regular changes in environment they experience. A typical calibration schedule for a fixed system may be quarterly, bi-annually or even annually with more robust units. A typical calibration schedule for a portable gas detector is a daily "bump test" accompanied by a monthly calibration.
In 1999, to help deal with the growing population, the school was relocated to a new, larger building, several kilometres away on Riverwood Gate. However, the new building quickly became overpopulated as well, and is now home to 17 portables. Fox offers a wide variety of academic courses and programs at all levels. Creating community is always a focus with dynamic leadership courses and initiatives to build connections in and out of our building.
John Fraser Secondary School is a public high school (serving grades 9-12) located on Erin Centre Boulevard, Mississauga, Ontario, Canada. John Fraser features 2 gymnasiums, a fully equipped fitness centre, an auto shop, as well as 12 portables due to increased enrolment over the years. A newly renovated rubberized track was also constructed on the north-western side adjacent to the main building in 2019. Sumble Kaukab is principal as of September 2019.
The school has recently undergone several new expansions, including the 2006 addition of a new wing, and the 2007 construction of a lobby and front office. Of the School Boards 1.8 million dollar expansion budget for 2007, 1 million was reserved for Notre Dame. The new expansions have resulted in the school abandoning a section of portables which it had previously been using. The school also had a science and technology wing added in 1994.
La Honda-Pescadero Unified School District is a school district in California that serves the south coast of San Mateo County, including the communities of Pescadero, Loma Mar, and La Honda. It consists of three schools: two elementary schools−one in Pescadero and one in La Honda−and a combination middle and high school located in Pescadero. The District Office is located in portables at the southeastern end of the high school campus.
Two standard 12 ft by 20 ft timber portable station buildings with a Van Goods Shed between (all adjoining) were provided on the platform and a Goods Shed on the No. 3 Road loop siding. Other buildings included Tea Rooms, lamp room and toilets along with a cattle race and loading bank. The station building was later reduced in length by one of the portables which housed the General and Ladies' waiting rooms.
Although originally called "Holiday Inn Crowne Plaza", the Crowne Plaza division was separated from Holiday Inn in 1994 to form a distinctive brand. During the 1960s and 1970s, there were several Holiday Inn Jr. motels with just 44 to 48 guest rooms located in portables. Locations included Camden, Arkansas; Rantoul, Illinois; Cleveland, Mississippi; Sardis, Mississippi; Farmington, Missouri; Springfield, Tennessee; and Columbus, Texas. A traditionally constructed lobby building featured a Holiday Grill restaurant.
The state approved funding for the project in 2008, but funding was delayed because of California's budget crisis. Funding was appropriated again in 2010 after the state was able to sell bonds. This new building will allow MSJC to move some classes that are currently held in aging portables into the new facility with state-of-the-art equipment. MVC Building I is expected to open its doors to students by Fall 2012.
The rooms of the North Hall are numbered 100s and 200s on the first floor and second floor, respectively; the South Hall rooms are numbered 300s on the first floor and 400s on the second floor. The portables are 500s. Each faculty department generally has its own section of the school. The English, math, science, business/technology and music departments, as well as the library and main administration, are in the North Hall.
This is most likely because the larger, bulkier Digital8 cassette is perceived as an inferior technology, even though the Digital8 and DV formats offer indistinguishable A/V performance. In fact, the larger 8mm format is more robust, laying down wider tracks. Most, though not all, Digital8 camcorders can play back analogue Video8 and Hi8 tapes. As well as camcorders, Sony also released Digital8 Video Walkman portables, the GV-D200 and GV-D800.
The first mobile computers were heavy and ran from mains power. The 50lb IBM 5100 was an early example. Later portables such as the Osborne 1 and Compaq Portable were considerably lighter but still needed to be plugged in. The first laptops, such as the Grid Compass, removed this requirement by incorporating batteries – and with the continued miniaturization of computing resources and advancements in portable battery life, portable computers grew in popularity in the 2000s.
There is one dance a year planned by the school (Valentine's Day) but also many afterschool dances planned by a local daycare (Cypress) and one Meet the Teacher night. The school and its School Council is currently fundraising to install a new state of the art playground and with the anticipated influx of new students due to a 3500 home subdivision being built in the area, portables have been added to the school.
In 1858 he adapted Clayton, Shuttleworth & Co portables by attaching a chain from the flywheel to a cog on a rear wheel. In the following year he obtained a patent for this which included the specification for devices for varying the tension in the chain and for disengaging it "so that a traction engine can be used as a stationary portable engine at will".Patent No. 1995 of 1859, quoted by and illus. on p.
Due to the modern video gaming market, an abundance of cases are available for both home and hand held game systems. Because portables often come in contact with the elements and are more prone to accidents, most owners use a case to protect their systems. Many such cases include soft padding to cradle the system while an outside shell provides protection from falls or environmental debris. Some trade off padding to make a thinner, more compact case.
The administration building and the library complex were completed in 1972. These early years of the 1970s saw Tampa Catholic's enrollment rocket to nearly 1500 students. This was more than the buildings could accommodate so the school was separated into two campuses for three years. The 9th grade students attended the "East Campus" located on the grounds of Mary Help of Christians School, and additional portables were brought onto the TC campus to help house upperclassmen.
DMR Tier II covers licensed conventional radio systems, mobiles and hand portables operating in PMR frequency bands from 66–960 MHz. The ETSI DMR Tier II standard is targeted at those users who need spectral efficiency, advanced voice features and integrated IP data services in licensed bands for high-power communications. A number of manufacturers have DMR Tier II compliant products on the market. ETSI DMR specifies two slot TDMA in 12.5 kHz channels for Tier II and III.
That means that no other phone maker was able to manufacture products containing the Snapdragon 835 until Samsung released its flagship device of the year, the Galaxy S8. At Computex 2017 in May, Qualcomm and Microsoft announced plans to launch Snapdragon-based laptops running Windows 10. Qualcomm partnered with HP, Lenovo, and Asus to release slim portables and 2-in-1 devices powered by the Snapdragon 835. In December 2017, Qualcomm announced the octa-core Snapdragon 845.
Warrandyte High School (WHS) is a high school in Warrandyte, Victoria, Australia. Established as only a few portable classrooms in 1978, it now comprises two main buildings and many semi-permanent portables set on a hillside on the southern slopes of the Yarra River, west of the main township of Warrandyte. The majority of its 600 students live in Warrandyte and the surrounding region. The school is known primarily for its art and music curriculum and natural setting.
In the 1950s, the FMAP DM (Fábrica Militar de Armas Portables Domingo Matheu), belonging to the Dirección General de Fabricaciones Militares, acquired the production rights of a copy of the U.S. M3 A1 submachine gun, more commonly known as the "Grease Gun". This Argentine version was chambered for 9×19mm cartridges, as opposed to the .45 ACP in the original model. The DGFM released two versions called PAM 1 and PAM 2, with and without handle latch.
There were 113 students who were originally enrolled at the school. In 1965-1966 temporary buildings (portables) were put up to hold the extra students, in 1966 there was 1,284 students at Whyalla Technical High School, in 1965 there was 1,480 students enrolled. Students were sent to Memorial Oval Primary School because there wasn't enough room to hold them all at the school. Soon after this Eyre Technical High School was opened as a year 8 to 12 school.
Eastlake High School is a four-year public high school in Sammamish, Washington, a suburb east of Seattle. Opened in 1993, it is one of four traditional high schools in the Lake Washington School District, serving its eastern portion. Eastlake shares its campus with the Renaissance School of Art and Reasoning, located in portables. Cafeteria, Eastlake High School, Sammamish, Washington Eastlake is one of three high schools on the Sammamish Plateau, all close in proximity along 228th Avenue.
A second round of major cuts in December 1990, had a negative effect on local production, especially on the resources of 24Hours. On February 27, 1997, CBC Manitoba announced that it would update and expand its studio facilities by at a cost of $2.8 million. In 1998, CBC Manitoba's newsroom and studios were expanded into a new building, after essentially using portables and an abandoned church for many years. The new studio featured a window looking down onto Portage.
In 2016 many of the old portable classrooms were removed and replaced with 9 new modular portable classrooms due to asbestos concerns. A small number of portable classrooms were relocated and renamed. In 2018 one of the new portables was deemed unsafe for a large part of the year after the significant flooding of the classroom. In late 2017 approximately one third of the school's multipurpose courts were demolished so Norwood's new gymnasium facilities could be built.
Renovations to the school in 1998 removed many of the open concept elements of the school's original design. Despite declining enrolment across the Toronto District School Board, MGCI is one of the most densely populated secondary school institutions in the province of Ontario as of 2015, operating at around 131% capacity with a building that can hold 1323 students. High enrollment has resulted in around 12 portables occupying a large portion of the school's back field. .
Alexander Hamilton Preparatory Academy's campus is the farthest one from Elizabeth High School's Main Complex. It is located next to Westfield Avenue, close to the borders of other towns. Hamilton Preparatory is the only house in which students must walk outside to classes. They are held in a small separate one-story adjacent building known as "The Portables", which is only a few yards away from the student cafeteria back door entrance and the main teachers' parking lot.
A hand-held particle counter is a small, self-contained device that is easily transported and used, and designed for use with Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) investigations. Though lower flow rates of 0.1 ft3/min (0.2 m3/h) than larger portables with 1 ft3/m (2 m3/h), hand-helds are useful for most of the same applications. However longer sample times may be required when performing cleanroom certification and testing. (Hand-held counters are not recommended for cleanrooms).
McKinnon Park Secondary School is a high school in the town of Caledonia, Ontario. It replaced Caledonia High School for the school year 1992/1993, which was converted into River Heights Public School. The school contains a gymnasium, cafeteria, workshop, library, day care centre, three science labs, twelve portables, an exercise room, music room, drama room, art room, guidance office, and five computer labs. There is a greenhouse in a courtyard located in the east quad.
Most designs are fitted with four wheels and no suspension of any kind. The first portables had wooden wheels, but as the engines became more powerful (and heavier), fabricated steel wheels were fitted instead. The 'front' wheels are normally smaller than those at the back. This is because they are mounted on the swivelling fore-carriage, under the smokebox, and large wheels would be liable to hit the boiler when the engine was turned around a corner.
The majority of the classrooms are located in three buildings; others are located in portables located in the southwest corner of the campus. The school colors evolved from purple/turquoise/white to the present purple/black during the late 1990s. The school opened in the fall of 1992 to only freshmen, sophomores, and juniors. The first graduating class received their diplomas in the spring of 1994; with the gradual enlargement of the student body, 1996 was the first four-year graduating class.
Las Plumas portables The Las Plumas Fight song was written by art teacher Al Walsh in the Fall of 1961. About this same time, Steve Green and George Kerth, two members of the class of '65, designed the multi-colored Thunderbird that was used as the school's symbol during its early years. This symbol was painted on the band's bass drum and used in other areas. The fight song fell into disuse, until it was revived by the Associated Student Body in 2008.
Similar to Norway, Sweden also has Jaktradio (Hunting Radio) allocations, 6 channels in the 155.400–155.525 MHz band and 40 channels in the 30–31 MHz band. In addition to these, the general purpose channel 156.000 MHz is available. 156.000 MHz is sometimes included as Marine VHF radio "channel 0" or "M1" (private) channel, allowing communication between portables and radios mounted in boats. Modulation is FM, maximal power 4 watts for 30–31 MHz and 5 watts for 155 MHz.
In May 2000, the First Nation was forced to close its elementary school and the community's students received their elementary education in a series of portables. Money that had been allocated for the renovation of the deteriorating physical condition of the 25-year-old frame construction school was used to fund the construction of eight double and three single portable classrooms. The facilities were basic, with none of the supplementary resources available to schools in other parts of the province.
The PowerBook 5300 is the first generation of PowerBook laptops manufactured by Apple Computer to use the PowerPC processor. Released in August 1995, these PowerBooks were notable for being the first to feature hot-swappable expansion modules for a variety of different units such as Zip drives; PC card slots as standard; and an infrared communication port.Paul Kunkel & Rick English, Apple Design pp 260-261, Graphis. . In common with most preceding Macintosh portables, SCSI, Serial, and ADB ports were included as standard.

Battery recycling services are also available, and the company is an official rechargeable battery collection site in the Rechargeable Battery Recycling Corporation’s Call2Recycle program. iResQ also buys used or broken iPods, iPhones, Mac portables, and Mac desktops for parts and refurbishing . In 2008 the company was named an Apple-authorized service provider which allows iResQ to diagnose problems and perform repairs for customers under Apple’s warranty program.
However, in 2005, Mississauga Secondary School opened in the area and about half of the grade 9 and 10 students attending Streetsville had to switch schools due to boundary changes. This dropped the overall attendance by about 500, and all of the portables have been removed. The sole portable remaining was used as an extension of the school's drama room until it was removed in 2006 due to budget cuts. In 2015, the roof of the portapac collapsed due to flooding after a heavy rainstorm.
Mold was discovered within the portapac and as such, it was boarded up. 3 portables have been added to the back of the school to replace the portapac, which was removed during the $7 million renovation/expansion that the school underwent during the summer of 2015 and the 2015-16 school year that included the removal of all materials containing asbestos from the building as well as installing new windows throughout the building. The portapac was replaced with a permanent extension to the school.
Mio P550, displaying the Today screen The Mio P550 was one of two PDAs manufactured by Mio as a replacement for the aging Mio A201. The P550 was one of seven new devices showcased at CeBIT in March 2006. The Mio P550 was a member of Mio's discontinued "Digiwalker" product line, and runs on Windows Mobile 5, with Windows Media Player 10 for portables and portable Office. The P550, in common with all other "Digiwalker" PDAs, supports GPS positioning, and features a built-in SiRFstarIII GPS chipset.
By June 2009, the portion of the school south of its main gymnasium had been demolished, though construction of the new building had not yet begun. Until the new building opened in February 2011, students continued to use the remaining northern half of the building, as well as the portables, to begin the 2009-2010 school year. During the transition, the school's many functions, such as the yearly school play, and so forth, continued to run. No extra-curricular activities were cancelled during this time.
Additionally there are two upper floors of which the first is inhabited by LBJ and the second upper floor is inhabited by LASA. On campus there are also eight portables only 3 of which are used by LASA. It is three stories tall, with three protruding academic wings currently designated by 3 different colored borders: white, yellow, and purple. The purple halls are mostly humanities and ELA (English/Language Arts) rooms, the white halls are mostly for math, and the yellow halls are mostly science classes.
The PenPoint OS was a product of GO Corporation and was one of the earliest operating systems written specifically for graphical tablets and personal digital assistants. It ran on AT&T; Corporation's EO Personal Communicator as well as a number of Intel x86 powered tablet PCs including IBM's ThinkPad 700T series, NCR's 3125, 3130 and some of GRiD Systems' pen-based portables. It was never widely adopted. Developers of the PenPoint OS included Robert Carr, who was involved with the Alto computer at Xerox PARC.
Despite early success, Osborne struggled under heavy competition. Kaypro Computer offered portables that, like the Osborne 1, ran CP/M and included a software bundle, but Kaypro offered larger 9 inch (229 mm) screens. Apple Computer's offerings had a large software library of their own and with aftermarket cards, could run CP/M as well. IBM's PC was faster, more advanced, and offered a rapidly growing software library, and Osborne's efforts to raise $20 million in capital to rush an IBM-compatible computer to market were unsuccessful.

Originally called Uxbridge High School, the original building was erected in 1923 and has undergone five major additions since then in 1965, 1979, 1985, 2003, and 2013. The building as it stands today has 81 classrooms, two gymnasiums, a cafeteria, library, and numerous staff and maintenance areas. At one point, there were 13 portables on site, including a "portapack", but these have largely been replaced with a new extension to the school. As of September 2016, Uxbridge Secondary School (USS) has a student population of 1230 along with 125 teaching and support staff.
The rights regarding the use of thumb-shift were officially transferred from Fujitsu to the Consortium. It was also a time in which there was a rapid shift from dedicated word processors to personal computers. Although Fujitsu kept producing PCs with a thumb-shift keyboard, including portables, most users preferred ones with an ordinary keyboard and there were very few PC manufacturers which offered thumb-shift. Thus, the growth of PC market did not translate into that of thumb-shift and the share of thumb-shift declined quickly.
In 1965, the College moved to a central campus comprising three new buildings. For the next five years, the basis of the specialized College was laid with its emphasis on open-entry, open-exit, and continuous progress instruction based on achievement of measurable competencies. Since 1971, the College has grown to nearly 400,000 square feet and the student body has increased 500 percent. The original three buildings have been remodeled and expanded, 10 new structures have been built, four portables have been added, and the college has acquired numerous off-campus facilities.
The architect of Wheatland High School is Leonard Dam Blackford, a former student of the school. The four million dollar high school plan includes a library, girls and boys gymnasium, outdoor community circle for entertainment called The Commons, lighted tennis courts,a football field, a baseball field, track facilities, shops, and forty-one classrooms. Today, plans to add portables and other buildings are underway to expand the campus to accommodate the increase in population. The current student body of around 700 is expected to grow by some 200-300 students by 2020.
Typical PDT A portable data terminal, or shortly PDT, is an electronic device that is used to enter or retrieve data via wireless transmission (WLAN or WWAN). They have also been called enterprise digital assistants (EDA), data capture mobile devices, batch terminals or just portables. They can also serve as barcode readers, and they are used in large stores, warehouses, hospitals or information the field, to access a database from a remote location. Others have a touch screen, IrDA, Bluetooth, a memory card slot, or one or more data capture devices.
Most of the campus at Alpharetta High School is occupied by a main building that contains three floors and three hallways (identified as the 2000, 3000, and 4000 hallways). The bottom (first) floor contains the cafeteria, media center, and access to the buses and portables outside. The second and third floor are mostly classes, and the second floor has access to the auditorium, gym, and orchestra room. Other parts of the school outside the main building include the band building, the soccer field, football fields, tennis court, trail, and softball field.
Regina Pacis was founded in 1980 by Father Gerald Fitzgerald, CSSp and the Holy Ghost Fathers using the temporary facilities of St. Philip Neri Catholic School. The school moved to a newly built site on 45 Norfinch Drive that opened in 1982. Overcrowding pressures forced the MSSB to lease the former Melody Public School on 24 Strathburn Blvd. from the North York Board of Education (which it was closed in 1986) along with half of 827 students from St. Basil-the-Great housed in 17 portables on the Weston Road site.
Portable classroom building This model consists of modular buildings that are also colloquially known around the world as portables, bungalows, t-shacks, trailers, terrapins, huts, t-buildings, or relocatables. They are pre-fabricated in a factory and delivered in two or more sections to an educational facility. There they are assembled into one or two classroom- sized buildings, normally without permanent foundations so they may be removed. Their normal purpose is to provide temporary classroom space for schools that require additional instructional space, either standard classrooms or for specialty art, science, or other programs.
St. Roch is a Regional Centre for the Arts with curriculum in dance, drama, instrumental music, media arts and vocal music. Students wishing to pursue the arts must successfully complete a rigorous application and audition process involving teacher referrals, character recommendations and auditions in front of faculty.Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board, yas 2012 As of September 2020, the board's planning department had put a cap on 375 grade 9 students, since it cannot accommodate portables on site. It redirects incoming Grade 9 students to nearby St. Agustine.
Previously, both LJHS and SWES had an extensive network of portable buildings to be able to accommodate students. After SWIS was opened, LMS moved all of its portable buildings to SWHS, and SWPS converted the portable for other uses, however, by 1990 SWPS was again using portables for classrooms. After only being used for 3 years, SWIS added a portable classroom in order to accommodate the growing student population. Behind the school is the remnants of a clearcut performed at the same time the area where the school it was cleared.
Bishop Allen Academy has a two-storey 77,705 sq. ft. campus leasing the space formerly held by Kingsmill S.S. in an 11.5 acre land. It currently has 28 classrooms, four science labs, an expanded cafetorium formerly used by a quadrangle, a double gym that can be partitioned, three art rooms, a new library, guidance/administrative area, and a chapel. The school originally had a full- sized 400m race track and soccer/football field, but it was partially covered away with 30 portables; it has since been replaced with a new 300m race track/soccer pitch.
In 2001, these classrooms were destroyed and replaced with new portable classrooms which were built in 2002 and opened in the back of the current "E-wing". These classrooms served as temporary space, while four new permanent classrooms were constructed on the site of the destroyed portables at a cost of $1 million. The new classrooms were completed in 2004 and were shortly thereafter known as the "F-wing". In 2007, a $1.5 Million general renovation project was undertaken by the Riverside School Board; classrooms, hallways, offices were all renovated.
In computing, Advanced Program to Program Communication or APPC is a protocol which computer programs can use to communicate over a network. APPC is at the application layer in the OSI model, it enables communications between programs on different computers, from portables and workstations to midrange and host computers. APPC is defined as VTAM LU 6.2 ( Logical unit type 6.2 ) APPC was developed in 1982 as a component of IBM's Systems Network Architecture (SNA). Several APIs were developed for programming languages such as COBOL, PL/I, C or REXX.

The Apple IIc was Apple's first compact and portable computer. The Apple IIc was released in April 1984, billed as a portable Apple II because it could be easily carried due to its size and carrying handle, which could be flipped down to prop the machine up into a typing position. Unlike modern portables it lacked a built-in display and battery. It was the first of three Apple II models to be made in the Snow White design language, and the only one that used its unique creamy off-white color.
The St. Johns (school) District was annexed on July 7, 1915, and the James John High School was added at this time. On the suggestion of superintendent Lewis H. Alderman, high school dances were allowed by the school board beginning in 1915, with the stipulation that "the parents of a majority of the students attend." Portable classrooms were used, especially in 1919, with 60 portables added. By this time, there were evening schools taught at Benson High School, Girls' Polytechnic (later merged with Benson), Commerce, Jefferson High School, Ladd, and Lincoln High School.
There are currently an additional eight (8) portable classrooms situated on site for the 2011 - 2012 and 2012 - 2013 school years. In fall 2007, two separate fires ran through several portables, causing many to be replaced. Portable One was removed following the first fire and 6 years later has yet to be replaced, leaving no portable that is numbered with the number "1." These individual classrooms are placed outside of the original school building to accommodate the excess student enrollment over the building capacity of 1200 students as set by the Ontario Ministry of Education.
The JEIDA memory card standard was a popular memory card standard at the beginning of memory cards appearing on portable computers. JEIDA cards could be used to expand system memory or as a solid-state storage drive. Before the advent of the JEIDA standard, laptops had proprietary cards that were not interoperable with other manufacturers laptops, other laptop lines, or even other models in the same line. The establishment of the JEIDA interface and cards across Japanese portables provoked a response from the US government, through SEMATECH, and thus PCMCIA was born.
In 1994, RHHS moved to its current location, which has four separate halls for classrooms, connected through one major hall which leads from the lobby to the portables on the side of the school next to the Richmond Hill Middle School campus. Richmond Hill Middle School was relocated and its former campus was incorporated into RHHS. The first and fourth hallways are the newest additions to the campus, constructed in 2005. Richmond Hill High School does not have an auditorium, so many school functions are held in the gymnasium or cafeteria.
The school was founded in September 1974 in cooperation with the Sisters of St. John the Baptist, St Charles Borromeo Roman Catholic Church and the Metropolitan Separate School Board (now known as the Toronto Catholic District School Board) to serve the predominantly Italian-Canadian community in the Dufferin-Lawrence neighbourhood with 180 students and nine teachers inside two portables and one portapak. The permanent three-storey building was erected in 1976 and the first addition was built in 1979. In 2005, the school constructed a 10,000 sq. ft. auditorium designed by Global Architects Inc.
Eventually, the office was moved to the Board of Education building where rooms were prepared for the opening of the 2002–03 school year. The facility located on Lower Station Camp Creek Road was not completed, so students and staff had to meet at 695 East Main Street in Gallatin. The temporary facility was the former Gallatin Junior High that was being renovated to house the administrative offices of the Sumner County Board of Education. For two months, classes met in former classrooms, portables, and temporary classrooms in the Teacher Center.
In the early part of the 20th century, a typewriter was marketed under the name Noiseless and advertised as "silent". It was developed by Wellington Parker Kidder and the first model was marketed by the Noiseless Typewriter Company in 1917. An agreement with Remington in 1924 saw production transferred to Remington, and a further agreement in 1929 allowed Underwood to produce it as well.OOcities.com Reproduction of advertisement for Noiseless typewriters, with list of models and diagram of typebar mechanism Noiseless portables sold well in the 1930s and 1940s, and noiseless standards continued to be manufactured until the 1960s.
In 1998, the school was approved by the board to open in a 3–2 vote. The main arguments against the school were that it was snobbish and that the school district should improve its current honors curriculum in its existing six junior high schools. The school opened on September 1, 1999, with 120 seventh and eighth graders. The school was located in the Illahee Middle School parking lot in three double portables (six classrooms) from its founding until October 2003 when it moved to a warehouse building formerly owned by Deluxe Check Printing Co. The school admits students through a lottery.
The PowerBook and MacBook series would continue to use LCD displays, following an industry-wide evolution from black-and-white to grayscale to color and ranging from 9″ to 17″. Two primary technologies were used, active matrix (higher quality and more expensive) and passive matrix displays (lower quality and cheaper). By 1998 all laptops would use active-matrix color LCDs, though the Newton products and eMate portables would continue to use black and white LCDs. Apple's current MacBook portable displays include LED backlighting and support either 2560×1600 or 2880×1800 pixel resolutions depending on screen size.
BBHS FOCUS Same Classes, New Settings Pg 8 These modular buildings are connected to each other, but are not connected to the main high school building. To this day, the modular classrooms, or as they are often called, the portables (though they cannot be moved), are still used for daily classes and are fairly popular among the student body. During this time of physical change in the district, Susan Shirken, the assistant principal for the middle/high school, left to become an administrator in the Edgemont district. This marked the arrival of Michael Mitchell in 2001.
Lodi High School, serving grades 9-12, is one of four comprehensive high schools in Lodi Unified School District. The physical plant encompasses three gymnasiums, 59 permanent classrooms, one cafeteria, 30 portables, four computer labs, one theater complex, a college and career center, one administration center, one counseling center, and one metal, one wood and one automotive technology shop. While the present site was built in 1956, Lodi High School began classes on September 8, 1896, and celebrated its centennial birthday during the 1996–97 school year. At the present time, Lodi High School is on a modified traditional calendar.
The wing known affectionately as "The Square" (Named after its imposing shape overlooking Greenbank Road) houses the science, computer, English, and combined French and social sciences departments. Another wing, "The Circle", which overlooks sports fields and a local neighbourhood, houses the Technology and Drama departments, the keyboarding room and all Grade 7 to 8 classes starting in 2017-2018 School year. These two wings are centred on a foyer on the main level, which is a popular place for students to socialize. The additional courses are provided in portables northeast of most of the school near where the Middle-schoolers have recess.
Shannen Koostachin was born in Attawapiskat First Nation on James Bay coast Ontario to Andrew Koostachin and Jenny Nakogee. She attended J. R. Nakogee Elementary School, which had been housed in makeshift portables since 2000, when it had been condemned and closed due to a decades-old fuel leak. Shannen then realized that the government was not giving proper funding to First Nations Aboriginal schooling systems around Canada, and that's when her dream/movement came to be. By 2007, the federal government had backed away from a third commitment to building a new school for Attawapiskat.
Among the most plunderable portables from the Etruscan tombs of Etruria are the finely engraved gemstones set in patterned gold to form circular or ovoid pieces intended to go on finger rings. Around one centimeter in size, they are dated to the Etruscan apogee from the second half of the sixth to the first centuries BC. The two main theories of manufacture are native Etruscan and Greek.Beazley Archive. The materials are mainly dark red carnelian, with agate and sard entering usage from the third to the first centuries BC, along with purely gold finger rings with a hollow engraved bezel setting.
The College faced a crisis at the end of the 1950s when it was discovered that the 1891 main building was decaying rapidly due to poor construction; cracks were appearing throughout, pipes split, and doors frames warped to the point where doors could no longer be opened or closed. Due to fear that the tower would collapse the building was condemned and evacuated by March 12, 1958;Principal Jim Power, Founder's Day Assembly, Feb. 2, 2006 faculty offices were moved to the Prep building, the infirmary, and any other spare spaces, including the principal's residence, Grant House. Classes were conducted in portables.
Opened in 2009, Fraser Mustard Early Learning Academy is a public Junior and Senior Kindergarten-only school operated by the Toronto District School Board. On June 16, 2009 Education Minister and local MPP Kathleen Wynne announced 12 million dollars in provincial funding to rebuild the school so the students would not have to be in portables. In 2013, the rebuild was almost complete, with the Fraser Mustard Early Learning Academy almost ready to house almost 700 kindergarteners and 85 staff members. The Academy is a kindergarten-only school, with 26 classrooms covering 80,000 square feet, and cost around $24.6 million to complete.
The machine's included software was a terminal program, MS-DOS, and MBasic (a version of the BASIC programming language). An Office Pack of four applications—Sorcim SuperCalc and SuperWriter, and PFS File and Report—was optional. It was far smaller than competing IBM compatible portables, such as the Compaq Portable, which were the size of a portable sewing machine and weighed more than twice the Gavilan's 4 kg (9 lb), and unlike the Gavilan they could not run off batteries. Gavilan claimed the SC could run up to nine hours on its built-in nickel-cadmium batteries.
In 1975, "temporary" portable trailers were erected at Roaring Brook Elementary School which housed Roaring Brook's kindergarten classes until 2002. In 2001, ground was broken on Seven Bridges Middle School, which was built in order to alleviate overcrowding at the town's only middle school, Robert E. Bell Middle School. In 2002, to address overcrowding, an addition of a new wing for the kindergarten classes was added to Roaring Brook, and the rapidly decaying portables were demolished. In June 2003, Seven Bridges was finished, dedicated in August, and opened its doors to its first students that September.
The Robotics Collaborative Technology Alliance (R-CTA) was a research program initiated and sponsored by the US Army Research Laboratory. The purpose was to “bring together government, industrial, and academic institutions to address research and development required to enable the deployment of future military unmanned ground vehicle systems ranging in size from man-portables to ground combat vehicles.” Collaborative Technology and Research Alliances was a term for partnerships between Army laboratories and centers, private industry and academia for performing research and technology development intended to benefit the US Army. The partnerships were funded by the US Army.
The new fine arts building, the Lee Ross Capshaw Auditorium, is named after the father of retired orchestra director Ida Steadman and retired band director Kenneth Capshaw; Lee was also a retired EPISD music administrator. The school also has the Jack Quarles and Don Brooks Thunderbird Stadium, baseball and softball fields, tennis courts, cafeteria, Agricultural Building, and the Big Gym (renovated in 2009) and Small Gym. To the south of the Small Gym are about six portables that also provide classes. The administrative office is located in A Building, just beyond the main entrance to the school.
Dell Vostro is a line of business-oriented computers from Dell aimed at small businesses. From 2013–2015, the line was temporarily discontinued on some Dell websites but continued to be offered in other markets, such as Malaysia And India. Prior to Vostro, Dell's home and small business computers were sold under the same lines: Dimension for home and small business desktops, and Inspiron for home and small business portables. With the introduction of Vostro, the Dimension line was discontinued, and the Inspiron line changed to include all computers for the home market; regardless of form factor.
In mid-2007 the school saw a lockdown which lasted 2 hours. It is home to a generally large European and Newfoundlander population, and is one of the two Catholic High Schools in Cambridge, drawing students from most of South Galt. In 2006, the school received an addition onto the back of the school, adding fourteen classrooms and a second story, which removed the 12 portables that previously littered the area. The school's student council has worked towards creating better school spirit by pushing for a uniform free week, as well as a second semi-formal.
That first year, Sandra Kiehlbauch was hired as the teacher/principal of the school, which met in a room at the back of the Maskwachees Seventh-day Adventist church. She taught 20 students that first year; 100 students applied. In the years immediately following, other Adventist schools were opened in the immediate vicinity: a school to serve the Montana band was opened in 1985, and another native school was opened at Pigeon Lake, 20 miles west, in 1990. These schools operated wherever space could be found, be it an empty building or a series of portables that were shipped in.
A Zenith transistor based portable radio receiver Companies first began manufacturing radios advertised as portables shortly after the start of commercial broadcasting in the early 1920s. The vast majority of tube radios of the era used batteries and could be set up and operated anywhere, but most did not have features designed for portability such as handles and built in speakers. Some of the earliest portable tube radios were the Winn "Portable Wireless Set No. 149" that appeared in 1920 and the Grebe Model KT-1 that followed a year later. Crystal sets such as the Westinghouse Aeriola Jr. and the RCA Radiola 1 were also advertised as portable radios.
Thanks to miniaturized vacuum tubes first developed in 1940, smaller portable radios appeared on the market from manufacturers such as Zenith and General Electric. First introduced in 1942, Zenith's Trans-Oceanic line of portable radios were designed to provide entertainment broadcasts as well as being able to tune into weather, marine and international shortwave stations. By the 1950s, a "golden age" of tube portables included lunchbox-sized tube radios like the Emerson 560, that featured molded plastic cases. So-called "pocket portable" radios like the RCA BP10 had existed since the 1940s, but their actual size was compatible with only the largest of coat pockets.
During the first semester of the 2014 to 2015 school year, the school was designated as a holding school for students planning on attending Tommy Douglas Secondary School. This was due to the planned opening of the school in February 2015 to coincide with the start of semester two (both Woodbridge College and Tommy Douglas Secondary School operate through a two-semester timetable). To accommodate both schools, the capacity of Woodbridge College was increased from 828 to 1106 through the installation of twelve portables on the school grounds. The students that were enrolled at Tommy Douglas Secondary School were eventually relocated to the new facilities at the start of semester two.
As a result of declining enrollment in the years, the school was closed in June 2002. Pacis has a building in excellent state of repair, despite having a decrease in enrollment. Many of the students in area were redirected to schools such as St. Basil’s, James Cardinal McGuigan, but renovations had to take place to accommodate the special needs students. With smaller school communities, many move to larger but physical buildings such as McGuigan, which previously had portables on site before added an annex in 2006. St. Basil’s new building in the Humberlea area that can fit 984 students opened in 1999 has already outgrowned to 1450.
Da Vinci, formerly located in a ring of portables towards the back of the Davis Senior High School campus, moved to the vacant Valley Oak elementary campus in the 09-10 school year. Three buildings in the front of the campus have been allocated to a special education preschool, while (roughly) seven buildings of varying size were given to the High School. The campus has kept the murals made by former Valley Oak graduates. In addition, each year, the graduating senior class creates a mural in a new area of the school together, with each student in the grade adding their name to it.
RMC is situated on 50 acres of land, bounded by Wellington Road to the west, the London District Catholic School Board to the north, a pond and forest to the east, and Scotland Drive about 500 metres to the south. The four-level Main Building, Three self-contained portables, two which are used by the CEC and one of which being the dance studio, a track and football field with field house, and a soccer pitch make up the entire secondary school campus. The school has a great deal of parking, surrounding the entire Main Building. School buses will wrap around the building when picking students up.
The school suffered from a fire on 11 June 2001, destroying the school administration building, Industrial Arts Block, and the English, History, Mathematics and Visual Arts staffrooms. As is commonly the case with such school fires, many student works (notably Visual and Industrial arts HSC projects) were destroyed, causing considerable distress among affected students. Also as a result of this fire, many portable classrooms were set up for a number of years, near the main oval and where the COLA (Covered Outdoor Learning Area) is now situated. It is estimated that for at least 3 years there could have been up to 20–25 portables (this has not been confirmed).
In the southern three-storey portion of the school were classrooms for the languages, mathematics, business and social studies departments, in addition to key school facilities such as the main office, the school's chapel and the library. In the northern two-storey portion of the school were the gymnasium, cafeteria, staff room and classrooms for the science, fine arts and technical studies departments. St. Thomas Aquinas also had a number of portables in the late 1990s, which were later removed as the school's population declined due to the removal of the OAC grade and the opening of Holy Trinity Catholic Secondary School in north Oakville.
It was designed as a 2-story "H" model (with "Sesame Street" forming the crossbar of the "H") and almost from the outset needed portables to accommodate the student body. The school was named after Nelson A. Boylen, who served as North York Township Deputy Reeve for Ward 3 from 1941 to 1945 and from 1947 to 1949. He served as the township's 7th Reeve from 1950 to 1952 and served as Councillor for Ward 3 from 1954 to 1955. In its prime years Nelson A. Boylen was a vibrant high school with a well-rounded student community focussed on academic, artistic and athletic achievement.
Classes were conducted in portables. That same year, a major fundraising campaign was launched as construction of a new building on the exact site of the old was started. Even though construction began in 1958, during the modernist era, the symmetry of the original structure, as well as a clock tower, were repeated, yet instead of a Romanesque Revival style a simplified Georgian was used. In the summer of 1959, Governor General Vincent Massey laid the cornerstone, Field Marshal Montgomery, 1st Viscount Montgomery of Alamein dedicated the new front doors on April 28, 1960, and the new building was officially opened by Vincent Massey and Edward Peacock on September 28.
The Dell Inspiron Mini 9 (also called the Inspiron 910), was announced on September 4, 2008, as a netbook set to contend with other low- cost ultra-portables such as the ASUS Eee PC and Acer Aspire One. The Mini 9 was also sold as the Dell Vostro A90 by the Dell Small Business Unit. The Mini 9 began shipping on September 16, 2008, starting at US$349.Engadget, “Dell's Inspiron Mini 9 pops official – starts at $349”. It is built by Compal Electronics, which also makes the MSI Wind Netbook and the HP Mini-Note 2133.Apcmag, “Up close with Dell’s Eee PC killer”.
With the exception of the auto shop building, the pool and Bower Learning Center were recently remodeled in 2003. As of 2011, a re-modernization project to remodel the 27-year-old North Thurston High School building is currently under development by North Thurston Public Schools and awaits funding. The project would take place in various yearly stages with students on campus. Some ideas being considered are a new gymnasium with expanded capacity, expansion of the current commons area into the current gymnasium, increased parking, additional building expansion to replace 27 portables, and modernization and safety upgrades of current classroom, hallway, and unused spaces.
The Etobicoke Board of Education made a final decision to close KMCI in 1981-82 as the school property was sold to the Metropolitan Separate School Board (later the Toronto Catholic District School Board, and now houses Don Bosco Catholic Secondary School), and KMCI closed its doors for the last time at the end of the 1982-83 school year. There was a need for a Catholic school. Don Bosco had already been running in the area in portables since its inception in 1978 and needed a school building. Keiller MacKay was chosen to be sold to the separate school board due to its declining enrolment.
The school was built in 1955 and is situated on 10.092 acres. In 1986 it was significantly damaged by fire at its south end, and much of it was rebuilt to the original plan. The 31 classroom spaces in the building include 3 portables located west of the main building, 1 computer lab, 4 science labs, 2 home economics facilities (cooking, fashion), a drama room, industrial arts facility and a music room. During the late 1980s and early 1990s, some upgrading of the school occurred to science labs, the computer lab and the library (now referred to as the Alf Boldt Resource Centre in recognition of one of its previous principals).
BYTE in January 1985 acknowledged the HP 110's high price, but stated that it was "a computer with true desktop capability and performance well worth its cost for those who need the power". It praised the keyboard, and predicted that the built-in Lotus 1-2-3 "will likely account for more HP 110 sales than any other single feature". Creative Computing said that the 110 was "the overwhelming winner" in the category of notebook portables when "price is no object" for 1984. The magazine stated that the $2995 price was "surprising modest" for its hardware, Lotus 1-2-3 and other software, and excellent manufacturer support.
In 1993 the Art and Technology faculties moved into a new purpose- built building which also had the effect of creating the "quadrangle" which has become the center of the school. During the 1980s and 1990s the North Wing's eclectic collection of portables came together with the addition of a gallery to make the area more waterproof. In late 2004 the Robinson Center saw classes begin for Music, Drama and Food Technology courses, with the building replacing many classrooms across the school that had previously been used for these purposes. The former Drama Center behind the North Wing was demolished soon after the Robinson Center was completed.
The Compaq Portable has basically the same hardware as an IBM PC, transplanted into a luggable case (specifically designed to fit as carry-on luggage on an airplane), with Compaq's BIOS instead of IBM's. All Portables shipped with 128k of RAM and 1-2 double-sided double-density 360 KB disk drives. The machine uses a unique hybrid of the IBM MDA and CGA which supports the latter's graphics modes, but contains both cards' text fonts in ROM. When using the internal monochrome monitor the 9x14 font is used, and the 8x8 one when an external monitor is used (the user switches between internal and external monitors by pressing ).
St. Marguerite d'Youville CSS was formed and commenced classes at the Glenvale location starting in September 1995, and continued to reside there until the end of the 2001/2002 school year. By this time, the small two level building was at capacity, with students being bussed in to the location from other parts of Brampton, numerous portables providing additional classroom space, and the potential for even more school enrollment as Brampton continued to expand to the north. Back in 1999, the DPCDSB initially considered a plan with the public board to include St. Marguerite d'Youville (then searching for a new site) in a dual-school campus in the Springdale community.
Today the school serves over 1000 students serving the Lawrence Heights neighbourhood. The population is diverse and student body consists of Italians, Portuguese, Filipinos, White, Hispanic, Eastern Asians, Jews, and many others. Due to overpopulation of the school, with the school building being medium-sized and students teaching classes in 20 portables, the school's grade 9 students were relocated to the former Bathurst Heights Secondary School in 2006 until 2011 when the school moved to the old Sir Sanford Fleming Academy as the students of that school was renamed to John Polanyi Collegiate Institute in the old Bathurst building. The campus became known as Beatrice Campus, named after Beatrice Portinari.
The school quickly became over-crowded as Orleans expanded its boundaries. Originally designed to house 432 students, by the mid-1980s the school population was well over 700 students and it was not uncommon to see as many as 8-10 portables on the school grounds during this period. In 1984 an eight-room permanent port-a-pak was added to the school to ease some of the overcrowding and through the 1980s several new schools were built in the area to further relieve some of the school's enrollment pressures. Convent Glen, Divine Infant, Blessed Kateri Tekakwitha and St. Francis of Assisi schools were all opened during this period of tremendous population growth in the region.
About SCORA SCORA maintained that these factors would negatively impact both the character and property values of the surrounding neighbourhoods. During the 2008-2009 school year, a series of portables were installed in the area formerly occupied by the school's sports field. By the late spring of 2009, students, faculty and staff had vacated the south end of the school, and a temporary main office had been set up in a vacated classroom at the school's north end. By May 2009, construction crews had finished stripping down the interior of the three floors (100s, 200s, and 300s) in the south end of the school, in addition to the main lobby and the school library.
The school is one of few in Toronto that has continued to grow during a period of falling student numbers as many families have moved to Toronto's suburbs. The school is named after Bishop Francis Allen, an auxiliary Bishop in the Archdiocese of Toronto and former pastor of local Etobicoke Parish Our Lady of Sorrows which serves Bishop Allen Academy. Bishop Allen was instrumental, together with fellow Auxiliary Bishop Francis Marocco and Archbishop Philip Pocock, in the Archdiocese of Toronto's 1960s campaign to establish and enlarge Catholic Secondary Schools in the Archdiocese. With the former Kingsmill building built just for 717 students, the school has 30 portables on site to handle the growing student population.
Virgin asked B3ta to run an image competition in which board members could win PlayStation Portables and an Xbox 360 for creating something on the theme "What would happen if you said Yes to everything?". Virgin later cancelled the challenge early because they did not like some of the images being created, including Richard Branson urinating on Rob Manuel, dressed in baby clothes. On 4 June 2007, a b3ta member posted an "alternative logo" for the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, which referenced an image from the former shock site goatse. The BBC then posted this logo on its website and ran it on its BBC News 24 channel as part of a viewer-submitted contest.
Wiregrass Ranch High School is a Pasco County public school, in Wesley Chapel, Florida, USA. This was the first new high school in Pasco County in seven years, and was built to relieve overcrowding primarily at Wesley Chapel High School. In the first part of the 2006/2007 school year, it was based in portables behind Thomas E. Weightman Middle School and used many of their facilities, such as their cafeteria and media center, before the permanent facility opened in January 2007. On November 23, 2019, the Wiregrass Ranch Marching Bulls won the FMBC Florida State Class 4A Championships, becoming the first marching band in Pasco County to do so, and placed third in the entire state as well.
J.R. Nakogee School was closed on May 11, 2000, because of site contamination and possible health problems that were attributed to a massive diesel leak at the site that occurred in 1979. The students and staff have since been in portables. Secondary school students attend Vezina Secondary School, which was established in the early 1990s with additions built in following years. The secondary school was founded by John B. Nakogee in 1991 and it was named after Father Rodigue Vezina, a local Catholic priest who has served the community since 1975. Before the high school was opened in 1991, high school students had to go to Timmins, North Bay, or Ottawa for their studies.
Phase two includes a new two-story administration and classroom building, expanding parking lot capacity, and finishing the replacement of the HVAC and windows. Phase three consists of a new athletic building, finishing the removal of the portables, modernizing the gym and locker rooms, and basic classroom modernization. The master plan estimates the cost of each phase at $15.99 million, $12.27 million, and $13.35 million, respectively and is funded by Measure I bonds (passed in 2014 and authorizing the issuance of up to $197 million in bonds), 2012 California Proposition 39, and planned future bond money. Currently, the project is in phase one, having completed the HVAC replacement in 2018 and library modernization in 2019.
In December 2016, Antioch Unified schools gained initial approval Rocketship to open its third charter school in the district. In November 2017, Rocketship got formal approval to open a third charter elementary school worth $14.4 million in Antioch, California on a property it previously purchased on Cavallo Road. The school received a charter from the Antioch Unified School District. At the time, Rocketship operated 18 schools in three states, as well as Washington D.C. It was announced in March 2017 that the Rocketship Futuro Academy in Concord, California would move from its location in portables of the Ayers Elementary site to the former site of Glenbrook Middle School, which closed in 2011.
The Compaq LTE, launched in 1989, was the first to be widely known as a "notebook computer" because its relatively small dimensions — 4.8×22×28 cm (1.9 × 8.5 × 11 inches) — matched those of a pair of stacked US Letter (similar to A4) size paper notebooks. The Compaq was followed in October 1992 by the very popular IBM ThinkPad, which was the first to include a 26.416 cm (10.4 inch diagonal, 8.3 x 6.2 inch outline) screen in a notebook measuring 5.6 × 21.1 × 28.4 cm (2.2 × 8.3 × 11.7 inches). Portables with noticeably smaller form factors thus became known as subnotebooks. The term was also applied to the NEC UltraLite, unveiled in 1988 — although its dimensions (1.4 × 8.3 × 11.75 inches) were very similar to the Compaq LTE.
University and Colonial face off in an annual football game known as Crush Colonial or the Boot Game; the winner takes home the Boot trophy and hosts next year's rival game at their school. University High School's Main Campus is designed in a square architectural layout with a courtyard in the middle, classrooms are located in buildings surrounding the main plaza. Along with this, the main campus includes the 25th building (a separate two-story building) and two rows of portables located at both west and east ends of the school. The East or Innovation Campus (formerly the Freshman Campus) is located across the street from the Main Campus and is predominantly unused due to plans to tear the campus down.
The plan called for the use of shifts, together with the use of the 1960s wing of BCI, portables and nearby Victoria School. On 19 March 2007 cost estimates for the BCI development on site were reported to be C$33,372,958, which included an auditorium at an approximate cost of C$2.7million (which the Alumni committed to raise funds for) and $30,647,969 for a school on a new site. The operating costs for the new school on its current site would be greater because of the additional floor area, but the bussing costs would be greater at the original site. The Board moved a motion at the meeting on 19 March to go in-camera and discuss a property issue.
The 1L6 was to be a specialty tube, produced in small quantities by very few manufacturers, mostly Sylvania for use by just a few manufacturers of shortwave portables, such as Zenith - in their Trans-Oceanics - and its short-lived rivals, such as the Hallicrafters TW-1000 and the RCA Strat-O-World and very few others. In fact, Zenith, Crosley and more than a few others used it in many radios. 1L6 based multi-band radios were made by Crosley, Airline (Montgomery Ward house-brand), Silvertone (Sears house brand), Hallicrafters, FADA, and several others. When the US military commissioned two versions of the Trans-Oceanics, they stockpiled 1L6s in the uncounted thousands, some of which still show up at surplus sales.
The Conroe ISD Academy of Science and Technology opened inside of Oak Ridge High School in 1987. The academy began moving students to the newly opened The Woodlands College Park High School in the fall of 2005 to accommodate the expected growth in students attending Oak Ridge from its attendance zone. The academy gradually transitioned from Oak Ridge to College Park from fall 2005 to spring 2007, allowing students already enrolled in the program at Oak Ridge in 2003–2004 to remain. By 2015, the school's enrollment exceeded its capacity. The combined, 9-12 enrollment of the school was 3,768. To accommodate the school's population growth, the district allocated 24 portable classroom buildings for the main campus and 4 portables for the 9th grade campus.
"Alterations and Corrections", Radio Service Bulletin, February 29, 1928, page 6. In late March 1928 the station made its debut broadcast,"Flyers Broadcast From Air", San Francisco Chronicle, March 31, 1928, page 17. transmitting on 1470 kHz on the AM band at 7,200 feet (2,200 meters) over Hayward. However, a few weeks later the Federal Radio Commission announced that, effective July 1, it would no longer license portable broadcasting stations, and KFBI, along with the other (earthbound) portables, was included in the list of stations to be eliminated."Portable stations no longer licensed" (General Order No. 30, May 10, 1928), Radio Service Bulletin, May 31, 1928, page 8."Strike Out All Particulars", Radio Service Bulletin, July 31, 1928, page 18.
Portable broadcasting stations in the United States was a category of AM band radio stations, which were not restricted to operation in a specific community, but instead were permitted to be transported for broadcasting from various locations. These authorizations began in the early 1920s during a period when radio regulation in the United States was the responsibility of the Department of Commerce. However, after the newly formed Federal Radio Commission (FRC) took over in early 1927, it was decided that allowing stations to make unrestricted relocations was impractical, and in 1928 the FRC announced that existing portables that had not settled into permanent locations would be deleted. Station owner C. L. Carrell attempted to overturn the new policy, but was unsuccessful.
Starting with three stations that were initially licensed under his own name — WHBM, WIBJ and WKBG — he expanded his holdings by taking over a portable station originally licensed to Billy Maine, WIBM, and purchasing three central Indiana standard stations — WBBZ, WHBL and WIBW — which were converted into portables. Thus, by the end of 1926, Carrell had a roster of seven stations, leased out through the C. L. Carrell Broadcasting Service."Broadcasting Stations" (as of December 31, 1926), Radio Service Bulletin, December 31 1926, pages 9-21. Carrell commonly used his portable stations, in conjunction with small-town theaters, to provide entertainment programs that featured radio personalities from major cities, which were broadcast by one of his stations to the local community.
The Energetic Learning Campus (ELC) is a 200 student, 13,000 square foot branch campus of North Peace Secondary.Architects' project webpage, retrieved 2012-08-17 It is located within the Pomeroy Sport Centre (PSC) located several blocks away from the NPSS main campus. The name is derived from the city's motto, "The Energetic City". The ELC came about in response to a demand for additional capacity at NPSS, itself a result of the provincial government's requirement to provide all-day Kindergarten classes.Energetic Learning Campus webpage, retrieved 2012-08-15 In 2010 the City offered to lease unfinished space in their newly completed community sports and recreation complex, the PSC, which prevented the need for acquisition of modular classrooms ("portables"). The cost for converting the unfinished space was $6 million.
The school officially opened its doors on September 4, 1972 and was the first English Roman Catholic School in Orleans. The school’s first principal was Gerard Leclair. During its first year of operation, it was known as Queenswood Catholic School and was housed in portables on the property of Reine-des-Bois French Catholic School on Duford Road at Amiens Street. At the time, both schools were part of the Carleton Roman Catholic School Board which had been formed in 1969. In September 1973, construction of a permanent school building costing $640,000 and situated at 1565 St. Georges Street in Queenswood Heights was completed and the school adopted the Our Lady of Wisdom name. The official opening/naming ceremony for the new school was held on May 26, 1974.
Evergreen Lutheran was started in 1978 at its first campus in DuPont, Washington before the lease expired the summer of 1991. Evergreen then rented facilities from Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Des Moines, Washington from September 1991 until July 2013 during which time classes were held in portables, outbuildings, gymnasium, and rented classrooms. After over 25 years of unsuccessful attempts to locate and purchase a permanent facility, Evergreen successfully purchased a 30-acre campus with a modern 54,000 square foot school that was built in 2005 on December 18, 2012. This campus is located at the corner of Waller Rd and 72nd Street East in Tacoma, WA. The campus was purchased from the Lutheran Church Extension Fund (LCEF) and was previously occupied by Mount Rainier Lutheran High School.
It opened for its first students in September 1959. In September 1963, CCHS was placed under the principalship of the Oblates of Mary Immaculate with Fr. Harold Conway as principal. The Board had first attempted to entice the Basilans to taken over the running of the school but the latter declined. In 1967, CCHS and Catholic Central Separate School, which for a number of years held only grade IX and X students, were joined under one principalship, with Fr. Conway as the first principle for grades IX-XIII A "tunnel" which was half above ground, was constructed to physically unite the two structures, which became known as the East Wing and the West Wing Owing to an increase in student population, a total of 14 portables were added between 1970 and 1972.
The school has seen many different incarnations, from the original minor seminary, or Séminaire de Mazenod, run by the Oblate missionaries of Mary Immaculate as a grades 9 to 11 preparatory adjunct to their juniorate, the Juniorat du Sacré-Coeur, on the University of Ottawa campus, Pierre Laporte as intermediate (7 and 8), to sharing its premises with the Centre Jules-Léger, an adult school for the mentally-challenged, from old, dusty portables to a now beautiful redesigned building with added space for the two years added to the official high school experience. The seminary used to have a chapel on the second floor of the school's western wing. It was turned into a library when it became Collège Samuel-Genest. The seminary used to have an ice rink where the library and cafeteria now stand.
Initially the new Dixie Road building was on the outer reaches of development in Brampton in the Springdale community, but over the next few years more and more surrounding farmland was developed into residential neighbourhoods and public transit access was improved. As time went on, enrollment from the surrounding area increased and a number of portables were added to the new school grounds, on the east side of the building where a small field was. Father Tobin Road, located to the immediate north of the current building, was named after a longtime Chaplain and Priest at the school, Father Tobin, who retired at the end of the 2002/2003 school year. At first it was a small section of road stretching east from Dixie and ending past the north roadway entrance, just north of the track field.

These "luggable" computers lacked the next technological development, not requiring an external power source; that feature was introduced by the laptop.
Traditionally, truckmount carpet cleaning machines have been more powerful than portable carpet cleaning units. Although recent changes in technology have allowed portable manufacturers to approach the power of truckmount carpet cleaning machines, to date truckmounts are more powerful as they produce the cleaning power from an engine and electric portables generate the cleaning power from an electrical socket in the customers home. The primary advantage of a truckmount lies with the carpet cleaning customer, as truckmounts do not need to use the customer's electricity or hot water so it means no costly electric and gas bills in the post long after the carpet cleaning company have left your home. Truckmounts also have a waste tank fitted so the technician can take the dirty water away and it does not end up down your sink or toilet, quick setup and easy use of the truckmount makes it preferable among professional cleaners.
St. Thomas Aquinas Secondary School, one of the oldest school communities in Brampton, originally occupied a new building at 115 Glenvale Boulevard (built in the Bramalea G-section in 1975), opening for classes in September 1976 with an enrollment of 500 students and offering Grades 7-10 (by 1982 Grades 9-13 were offered). A "portapak" addition was built in the Fall of 1980 on the south side of the building, and increasing amounts of portables were also added to handle increasing enrollment over the years. The school changed locations to its current building at 25 Corporation Dr. near Torbram in 1992, due to increasing student enrollment. The old building at 115 Glenvale became a holding school, housing the new regional school for the north region, Robert F. Hall Catholic Secondary School and eventually housing St. Marguerite d'Youville SS for a number of years.
Originally, Libermann was intended to be a middle school in the city of Toronto. The idea for the school usage was changed after the school was built and instead to be used by students of grades 9 to OAC. The building was constructed in 1981 and because of this design was made to accommodate a smaller student body, the school had to deal with perpetual overcrowding, requiring the construction of additions and alterations. Portables were built for the surplus of students. Over a period of many years, the school underwent additional construction projects such as expanding the gymnasium, adding an annex, and adding an entire new section containing an office, atrium and cafetorium most notably in 2006. From the beginning, Libermann was a mostly a private school with the MSSB assuming responsibility of educating grade 9 and 10 students. From 1985 onwards in the aftermath of the government announcement of full funding of Roman Catholic high schools, Libermann ceased to be a private school and the MSSB now has full control of the school with the Spiritans withdrawing day-to- day operations. In 1986, the school had 1,100 students and 63 full-time staff members.
"Some families leaving Galveston for League City say the relative quality of the schools is a factor. Reyes said he’s been pleased with Clear Creek schools, but that wasn’t why his family decided to move." On May 11, 2013 the district was successful in a vote securing $367 million to "...rebuild or improve 40+ year old schools; address student safety, security systems, repairs and enrollment growth; construct or expand co-curricular and extracurricular facilities for growth in programs; and improve wireless infrastructure and access to technology for 21st century learning." On May 6, 2017 the district was successful in a vote to approve a bond with largely the same purpose stated in 2013 "...to build new or rebuild schools, replace portables with permanent additions, renovate aging schools to bring them up to today’s learning standards, improve school and bus safety through the purchase of surveillance equipment and buses." This second bond in 2017 for $487 million resulted in a 4-year total of US$854 million of funding over and above that allocated by the state for this purpose. CCISD is just the 29th largest school district in Texas.
