Shake also frequently tries to con other characters, though it almost always fails thanks to his incompetence, and engages in numerous get rich quick schemes that are often poorly thought out and occasionally illegal in nature. Shake is also extremely lazy and balks at the idea of getting a job, let alone completing chores; the few times he has held a job ended with Shake abandoning his post, and on one occasion trying to rob the register on his way out. He is placed in an assortment of jobs of which he is incompetent. For instance, he was in charge of Homeland Security where he didn't think anything would happen prior to September 11, 2001. He eventually became warden but still initiates poorly thought out programs such as having the inmates build ladders, or having the prison guards host a Take Our Daughters to Work Day and almost had one of the short-statured inmates escape as a student.

On January 24, 2011, Toronto Police Constable Michael Sanguinetti and another officer from 31 Division spoke on crime prevention, addressing the issue of campus rape at a York University safety forum at Osgoode Hall Law School. During the talk, Sanguinetti interrupted the more senior officer and said: "I've been told I'm not supposed to say this – however, women should avoid dressing like sluts in order not to be victimized." In the early 19th century, the saltings below Blythburgh bridge were reclaimed by the construction of embankments, to prevent them flooding. The plan was poorly thought out, and soon afterwards the condition of Southwold harbour was deteriorating, largely due to the deposition of silt, which made access difficult. The canal engineer John Rennie was asked to advise on a course of action, but although his report of 6 January 1820 pointed to the embanking of the saltings as the cause of the problem, he could offer no acceptable solution. The entrance to the harbour became blocked in 1839, and a further report was prepared by John Wright and James Walker in 1840. They calculated that the embankments surrounding the saltings excluded 5.5 million cubic yards (4.2 million m3) of tidal water on each tide, and thus the scouring effect of the river was considerably reduced.

After a series of high profile dog attacks on children in the United Kingdom, the British press began to engage in a campaign against so-called dangerous dog breeds, especially Pit Bull Terriers and Rottweilers, which bore all the hallmarks of a moral panic. This media pressure led the government to hastily introduce the Dangerous Dogs Act 1991 which has been criticised as "among the worst pieces of legislation ever seen, a poorly thought-out knee-jerk reaction to tabloid headlines that was rushed through Parliament without proper scrutiny". The act specifically focused on Pit Bulls, which were associated with the lower social strata of British society, rather than the Rottweilers and Dobermann-pinschers generally owned by richer social groups. Critics have identified the presence of social class as a factor in the dangerous dogs moral panic, with establishment anxieties about the "sub-proletarian" sector of British society displaced onto the folk devil of the "Dangerous dog".

Les Lancaster was named the GBL Manager of the Year for the 2006 season.,Les Lancaster named Golden Baseball League Manager of the Year while the MVP of the team was catcher Marcus Jensen a former major leaguer and member of the 2000 U.S. Olympic Gold medal team. Solid attendance accompanied the championship team with sellout crowds on many occasions, including the series where Jose Canseco came in as a member of Long Beach Armada and appeared at one game and then faked a back injury to skip the next two games so he could stay up all night playing poker at the Grand Sierra Resort.

The IBM 5280 System was intended to be a natural improvement over the IBM 3740 which was now more than 10 years old. However, the industry had spent much of the first five of those years producing the supporting environment for it, but were now at the crossroads where they had to decide if they were going to continue to use the super expensive, guaranteed-not-to-fail IBM 5280, or to move away from what Big Blue was promising them into the nether world of unknown software, incomplete, poorly thought out process changes and daily interruption of work flow due to system crashes of their -not-ready-for- business-but-cheaper-than-dirt- personal computer-based future. They made that decision mainly because it put them more in control of their "stuff" for a lot lower cash outlay - besides that, the kids coming up in the ranks were already whizzes at the pc, having been working with them since high school at least. Only a few had heard of Distributed Data, but that was what the personal computing world did to data - distributed it almost naturally.
