The Aspley RLFC first became a member of the Brisbane Rugby League Junior Division in 1968 under the name Norths Aspley, and was formed the previous year following a meeting of locals interested in establishing a rugby league club in Aspley. The high limit gaming room features 125 machines in denominations up to $1,000 and is centered around an acrylic horseshoe statue, the second largest acrylic statue in the United States behind Tiffany’s at the time of the opening in 2008. Horseshoe is home to the largest poker room in the Midwest, featuring 34 tables at all limits, and including a private poker area, Benny’s Back Room, named for the founder of the original Horseshoe in downtown Las Vegas, Benny Binion. Horseshoe has consistently branded itself as the home of the highest limits. Benny Binion, on opening the original Binion’s Horseshoe in Las Vegas, was the first to institute high table limits.

When the Nick Xenophon Team changed its name to Centre Alliance, Xenophon himself ceased to be directly involved with the party. Xenophon initially focused on his central anti-gambling policy, but also embraced other issues in federal parliament such as civil liberties, defence, education, foreign policy, health, infrastructure, manufacturing, national security, and regional affairs. Xenophon failed in his central mission to have poker machines curbed or eliminated in a lasting way, but was instrumental in the Rudd Government's repeal of WorkChoices legislation and the passage of the economic stimulus package, as well as the Abbott Government's repeal of the Clean Energy Act 2011. Additionally, Xenophon was pivotal in the obstruction of the Abbott Government's 2014 austerity budget, the plan to build next generation submarines overseas, and the Pyne higher education reforms.

Former Macquarie Bank executive, Bill Moss settled for $AU49,000 in damages after being named in the book. In summing up Judge Lucy McCallum said "The particular chapter in which Mr Moss is featured is headed The Bagman, evidently a reference to Mr (Eddie) Obeid’s role in an attempt to bribe the NSW Labor government in circumstances where the approval of poker machines was a central requirement of the success of a development proposal backed by Mr Obeid". On 24 May 2006, under Parliamentary privilege, Obeid said of McClymont: > McClymont has been mixing with scum for so long she no longer knows who is > good and who is bad, what is real and what is made up. At the 1997 state election, Xenophon stood for the South Australian Legislative Council under an Independent No Pokies ticket, advocating the reduction and abolition of poker machines (colloquially known as "pokies"). He received a vote of 2.86 percent, a statewide total of 25,630 votes – much less than the 8.33 per cent needed to be elected in his own right – but by receiving a large number of preferences first from microparties and then from Grey Power, he went from a quota of 0.34 to 1.08 and was therefore elected. This made Xenophon the first independent elected to the Legislative Council in 60 years. Following the 1997 election, the Olsen Liberal government needed the support of an additional two non- Liberal upper house members in order to pass legislation, with the Australian Democrats retaining the balance of power on three seats.

Through the 60s and mid 70s Semco produced store displays for Disney, Circuit City, Sears, Kraco Radio, JD Industries, and Complete Warehouse Video showroom displays. In the 80s the video game era came to a peak and Semco acquired PVG (Pacific Video Games) and started producing arcade cabinets for companies including Gremlin/Sega's Frogger, Star Trek, and Zaxxon, Wedges/Ledges, Leland's Dragon's Lair and Super Off Road arcade video game cabinets, Indian Gaming Reservation slot machines, Video Poker machines, Capcom's Street Fighter arcade video game cabinets, and Sega GameWorks Custom Classic Cabinets and Custom Arcade Cabinets. In December 2007, Capcom Games filed a federal lawsuit for copyright and trademark infringement against HanaHo Games and its President Conway Ho. in regards to the use of their properties in the Arcade Legends 2 and Ultimate Arcade 2 arcade cabinets. The case was voluntarily dismissed with prejudice in February 2008.

The Greens maintained their position in the balance of power for a third consecutive term, and the ACT Greens and ACT Labor parties signed another parliamentary agreement setting out the terms of their power-sharing arrangement in government. Once again, the Greens secured an ambitious and progressive raft of commitments in the parliamentary agreement, including the establishment of an Independent Commissioner Against Corruption, a ban on greyhound racing, action to minimise gambling harm by reducing the number of licensed poker machines in the capital, a legislated commitment to zero emissions by 2050, Light Rail Stage 2 from Civic to Woden, more nurse-led Walk In Centres, an Office of Mental Health, free bus travel for seniors and concession-card holders, reforms to the Energy Efficiency Ratings scheme, and Gonski needs-based education funding. 2020 - 2024 Assembly As per legislation, the next ACT Legislative Assembly election will take place on October 17, 2020.

Xenophon was an activist for a range of issues apart from the elimination of poker machines, speaking out on consumer rights, essential services, the environment, taxation, and perks for politicians. Xenophon was also vocal in the Eugene McGee hit-run affair, becoming an advocate for the victim's wife, with public opinion eventually forcing the Kapunda Road Royal Commission that led to harsher laws for hit-run offences. At the 2006 state election, he ran an aggressive campaign and attracted considerable publicity through a range of imaginative stunts, including riding a model locomotive "gravy train" outside Parliament House to protest MPs' superannuation entitlements, parading along Rundle Mall wearing a sandwich board to advertise his campaign, and bringing a small goat to Parliament urging voters not to "kid around" with their vote. Despite media speculation that he would struggle to be re-elected due to the major parties preferencing against him, he attracted sufficient funding and volunteers to staff most state booths on polling day.

With the help of the Federal Member for Petrie, Dean Wells, and his Government's contribution through their C.E.P. Funding, along with the football club's own financial arrangements with the Commonwealth Bank, the move was made possible. However the heavily publicised and enforced "Don't Drink and Drive" policy by the Government struck the thriving bar trade, and, according to From Shellgrit to Dolphins, a book on the History of the Redcliffe Dolphins, says: "Suffice to say the club only barely kept its doors open and its creditors at bay until the advent of poker machines in 1992, but proudly was able to meet its financial commitments" In January 1979, the committee proposed to name the complex the Don McLennan Oval, but Mr McLennan requested that it be called Dolphin Oval. Fittingly, the first game at Dolphin Oval was between Redcliffe and Norths, the club that originally proposed Redcliffe's admission into the BRL. The original lease was acquired to 1998 and later extended to 2008, before the Redcliffe Dolphins bought the land.
