Pocan, who expects Ocasio-Cortez to join the Progressive Caucus, said they also discussed her fundraising efforts for progressive candidates and which committees she'd like to eventually join.
"So many candidates have proposals right now that I don't think we've been chasing the presidential candidates proposals," said Pocan, the co-chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus.
In a statement accompanying the letter Tuesday, Pocan said the offensive on Hodeida could push Yemen, which is on the brink of famine, into a full-blown famine.

"Wendell apparently has an idea in his head, but last time I looked, he hasn't found a district to be elected in yet to directly impact things," Pocan said.
" When asked about other progressives criticizing the rule change on Twitter, Pocan said, "I think there's more effective ways to get it done that I'm trying to focus on.
In fact, I was at the very Bipartisan Program for Newly Elected Members of Congress at Harvard University in 6900 where Pocan said he first heard about No Labels.
Beneath all the specific attacks by Pocan and others is the general insinuation that No Labels is a puppet of special interests, and pushing some sort of hidden agenda.
"President Trump's blanket directive to round up and target all undocumented immigrants underscores the unchecked power which ICE has used to terrorize our communities," Pocan said in a statement.
Jayapal and Pocan saw the bind they were in with their caucus and indicated that they would vote against their own bill if it were brought to the floor.
Behind the scenes, Pramila Jayapal of Washington state, who, along with Pocan, chairs the Progressive Caucus, had reached out to Ocasio-Cortez and House Democratic Caucus chair Hakeem Jeffries.
"We're hoping to get it done by December, if not, we'll see if it gets extended again," Pocan said of the temporary funding bill signed into law last week.
The caucus, however, is pleased that the speaker is backing negotiation, rather than arbitration, and that the plan would cover all Americans, not just those on Medicare, Pocan said.

But Pocan and Jayapal said they plan to vote for the rules package because they've gotten assurances from House Democratic leaders and incoming Rules Committee Chairman Jim McGovern (D-Mass.) that the pay-go rule can be waived.
All this work – to push for sensible rule reforms in a broken Congress and to finally provide some political support for leaders who operate in the political center – has been twisted beyond recognition by the likes of Pocan.
And then, as attention turns to 2020, the hope is that the center can "be the entity that's initiating the ideas, and then the people who are running for president have to pick that up," Pocan told BuzzFeed News.
