The original name of the village, Les Contamines, is from the word contamines, which in the ancient local dialect meant ploughable land on the estate of the squire.

Anaheilt (, meaning Ford of the Hind) is a village one mile north of Strontian. The population in 1723 counted eight families with 8 men, 10 women and 20 children, total 38. In 1806 its area extended to 953.720 acres, 42.100 acres ploughable land, 56.835 acres cultivated with the spade, 9.170 acres meadow and 845.615 acres moor and pasture. Much of the cultivated and plougable land was turned to 28 crofts by 1828.

On 21 Pluviôse Year X, or February 10, 1802, Jean-Louis Vignes married Jeanne Simon, who was the daughter of Etienne Simon and Marie Laillou. They moved into the family house in Béguey which they acquired on December 30, 1816, along with its cellars and workshop, the vines, of ploughable lands, and "the copper brandy still that contains three barrels." Jean-Louis Vignes paid 2,100 Francs "in good metallic currency". His signature on the contract was adorned with the three dots of the Freemasons.

Craigenputtock is the craig/whinstone hill of the puttocks (small hawks). It is the upland farming estate in the civil parish of Dunscore in Dumfriesshire, within the District Council Region of Dumfries and Galloway. It comprises the principal residence – a two-storey, four bedroomed Georgian Country House (category B listed), two cottages and a farmstead, of moorland hill rising to above sea level, of inbye ground of which is arable/ploughable and of woodland/forestry. It was once the residence of the well-known writer Thomas Carlyle, who wrote many famous works there.

Nine months earlier, in February 1791, when many of the crew from HMS Sirius had been taken off the island back to Sydney, Hibbs instead stayed on the island to be with Mary. In about 1791 (Mollie Gillen records the date as 16 May 1791, and another source records the date as 3 January 1792) Hibbs received a 60 acre grant of land on Norfolk island on the south side of the Cascade Run, Phillipsburg, 13 acres hilly and 47 acres level, but all ploughable. Hibbs soon had 9 acres under cultivation. In 1617, Baron Porcarès had among his "noble" possessions: "a castle called Roquedols, with its towers and moats, field and other lands, mills to grind wheat with their lock, mulching, threshing grain, gardens, oven, canabière (hemp), poultry farm, ...." In 1726, Marguerite d'Albignac possesses at "the village of Rocadols" a castle with four towers, a dovecote, gristmill and sawmill, pines, meadows, and other wood and ploughable lands, ... In 1732, Jean Dupont de Bossuges, Lord Montguirand, living in Ganges, bought the barony of Porcarès including Roquedols. The Dupont de Bossuges, who took the name of Baron de Roquedols, were the last noble owners of the estate, which they sold at the end of the 19th century. During the French Revolution, they saved the castle from public sale as national property by removing the roofing of the corner towers, considered as an aristocratic symbol. After them, a company of wood sawyers moved to Roquedols until 1893 when the castle was bought by Rose Anastasia Vincent, wife Dol, from Marseille.

The castle was plundered, removing any trace of blazons, kicking down doors, as well as the parquets of the first floor. Lots were established for the sale of the domain. Jean-Jacques Capion, solicitor in Vigan, bought them all except one, which exclusively consisted of lands and was bought by the inhabitants of Vissec. On October 7, 1862, Louis-Eugène Capion, owner of Vigan, sold to Joseph Bourrier, owner to Roquenouze, municipality of Vissec, a small domain situated in Vissec including a house with stable and dependences, according to in the bill of sale, previously called the castle, a small independent stable, the ruins of the former castle, a ploughable land below the road face to face of the house known indicated an adjacent vineyardaudit field, a field of mulberry trees and pear trees in the ground of Peyssel, in brief all the lands which the salesman possessed in the municipality of Vissec but nevertheless independent of the domain of Roquenouze.
