Plashet is a locality of East Ham in the London Borough of Newham in East London located between West Ham (Upton Park) and Manor Park. It contains Plashet Jewish Cemetery, Plashet Park, and several places of worship.Willey, Russ. Chambers London Gazetter, p 389-90.

The area was home to prison reformer Elizabeth Fry, who lived in Plashet House from 1809-1829, and also her daughter Katherine who lived in Plashet Cottage. Both of these properties were demolished in the 1880s to make way for the terraced streets that now characterise the area. Steve Marriot lead singer of the Small Faces was born at East Ham Memorial Hospital located in the Plashet area. The poet Benjamin Zephaniah has also lived in Plashet.

Plashet dates back to 1932 when the East Ham Grammar School for Girls first opened on the South site. In the 1950s, the North site was built and Plashet County Secondary Modern School for Girls was opened. These two schools were amalgamated into Plashet School in 1972 and the two sites were physically linked by the award-winning Plashet Unity Bridge in November 2000. This was designed so students had a safer way to get to and from lessons without skipping school or getting into accidents.

In 1905 a mixed grammar school was opened on Barking Road. East Ham Grammar School for Girls was opened on Plashet Grove in 1932, and this became Plashet School, a separate school, in 1972. The Langdon buildings were completed in 1953 on former marshland on the eastern border of East Ham with Barking, when administered by the County Borough of East Ham. They consisted of three schools: Burges Manor (girls), Thomas Lethaby (boys) and East Ham Grammar School for Boys.

Housing in East Ham consists principally of Victorian and Edwardian terraced town houses, often in tree-lined avenues. There are many green spaces in the otherwise bustling and urbanised area of East Ham. The graveyard of the Norman St Mary's church, is maintained as a nature reserve, the largest of its kind in Greater London. Central Park (Central Park Road) and Plashet Park (Plashet Grove) are the two largest parks in East Ham, and both combine open space with playgrounds and cafés.

On 27 August 1904 East Ham was granted a charter of incorporation constituting the town as a municipal borough. The name Plasketlands comes from the Old English plashet, meaning "a fence of living wood". It was historically spelled several different ways, including Plassegaytt, Plaskitlands, Plascade-lands, and Plesketh Landes. Evidence of settlement at Plasketlands goes back thousands of years. A palisade of posts at Plasketlands has been radiocarbon dated to somewhere between 4000 BC and 2500 BC.

Due to its proximity to the ground and its use by West Ham fans, the pub has often been boarded-up before and after games with clubs who have a rivalry with West Ham. West Ham fans also used the Greengate, Wine Bar and Village pubs on Barking Road and the Duke of Edinburgh pub at the junction of Green Street and Plashet Grove.

Born at Dacre Lodge, 49 Plashet Road, Forest Gate, Essex (now in London), of physician Frank Challans and Mary Clementine Newsome Baxter Challans, Renault was educated first at Levick family school and Clifton Girls School in Bristol. She read English at St Hugh's College, Oxford, then an all-women's college, receiving an undergraduate degree in 1928. In 1933 she began training as a nurse at the Radcliffe Infirmary in Oxford. During her training she met Julie Mullard (1912 – 2006), a fellow nurse with whom she established a lifelong romantic relationship.

Steve Marriott was born on 30 January 1947 at East Ham Memorial Hospital, Plashet, East Ham, (London, E7), England to parents Kay and Bill Marriott who lived at Strone Road, Manor Park. Born three weeks premature and weighing just , he developed jaundice and was kept in hospital four weeks before being well enough to go home. Marriott came from a working-class background and attended Monega Junior School. His father Bill worked as a printer and later owned a jellied eels stall, called 'Bill's Eels', outside the Ruskin Arms hotel.

Choudhry was born in Newham, East London, and lived in East Ham. She was the eldest child and attended Plashet School in East Ham, later studying for her A-levels at Newham Sixth Form College. She had been in the final year of a degree in English and communications at King's College, London, but had dropped out shortly before the attempt on Timms' life. In a police interview, she stated that she dropped out due to finding the university to be anti-Islamic, as they had given an award to the Israeli politician Shimon Peres and ran counter-radicalisation programmes.

East Ham tube station and High Street North are within 5 minutes' walk of the school, and it draws students from across the London Borough of Newham and from neighbouring boroughs. Plashet school topped the state school rankings in 2008 when it also got an excellent report from Ofsted and was also recognised by the international school standards. There are 1,350 students on roll, with a 10 form entry in each year group. There are approximately 80 full-time teaching staff complemented by a team of English as a Second Language teachers, Special Needs teachers and classroom assistants.

In 1895 the London Baptist Association (LBA) promoted services in East Ham, then a fast-growing dormitory suburb. A temporary iron building at the corner of Katherine Road and Victoria Avenue housed the first congregation. R. Sloven became the first minister from 1896 to 1908. In 1901 the congregation moved to a new building in Plashet Grove, designed by Edgar Stones,Bridget Cherry, Charles O'Brien, Nikolaus Pevsner, London 5: East, Yale University Press, 2005, page 272. with a 1000-seater sanctuary, surrounded by halls and rooms. By 1903, membership was 972, one of the strongest in the then East Ham Borough.

1997–2010: The London Borough of Newham wards of Bemersyde, Forest Gate, Hudsons, New Town, Park, Plaistow, Plashet, Stratford, Upton, and West Ham. 2010–present: The London Borough of Newham wards of Canning Town North, Canning Town South, Custom House, Forest Gate North, Forest Gate South, Green Street West, Plaistow North, Plaistow South, Stratford and New Town, and West Ham. The constituency covers the western half of Newham stretching from the Thames just east of Canary Wharf to Stratford. The boundary changes that took effect for the 2010 general election expanded the constituency by adding Canning Town from the abolished Poplar and Canning Town constituency, whilst losing Silvertown to the redrawn East Ham.

Grangewood Independent School was founded in September 1979 by Dr. Clive Vellacott, a Christian doctor and his wife, Susan, who were members of East Ham Baptist Church situated in East Ham. The school was nevertheless open to children from other backgrounds and, over the years, the majority of children have come from Muslim, Hindu and other religious backgrounds. The school opened with seven pupils for its first year in rooms in East Ham Baptist Church. In September 1980 the school moved to its present site, leasing the lower hall of the Plashet Park United Reformed Church. By this time the number of pupils had increased to twenty and the school received ‘Final Registration’ by the then Department of Education and Science.

Former original factory on Katherine Road (at Shaftesbury Road) in Forest Gate, pictured in January 2006 The company was headquartered in what was south-west Essex, in Woodford, Greater London. It initially had a factory at Forest Gate called the Trebor Works from 1935 between Upton Park tube station and East Ham tube station in what is now the London Borough of Newham,Former factory north of the former ground of West Ham United F.C. and west of Plashet. Its main headquarters were at Clayhall, next to the southern terminus (Junction 4 or Woodford Interchange) of the M11 on the Southend Road Industrial Estate on the A1400 (former A406 or North Circular Road). In 1939, a factory on a five acre site was opened on Brimington Road in Chesterfield, on the site of a former brewery next to Chesterfield railway station; the factory in Chesterfield closed in 2005.
