The Pink Spiders' third album was announced in late 2007 and was meant to be released in Spring 2008. Geffen hired Brendan O'Brien as the producer — his experience included work for musicians such as Stone Temple Pilots, Pearl Jam, and Bruce Springsteen. Friction wrote 25 songs for the album, of which half were approved for release. The band bought a school bus which they intended to use for touring.

The band encountered disagreements over money and direction leading Decious and Ferrari to announce they would no longer be members of The Pink Spiders. The two played a last show on June 18th, 2008 in Charlotte, North Carolina. They formed the country-rock group, Dixie Whiskey, in the following months. Matthew Bell, better known as Matt Friction, is an American musician, singer, and songwriter. Friction's music career began in 1998 as lead singer and songwriter of the band Silent Friction. He later moved on to establish power pop band The Pink Spiders with Bob Ferrari and Jon Decious. In September 2017, The Pink Spiders announced a short 10 city Midwest/Northeast tour, titled the "Black Dagger Tour" starting December 13 and ending December 22, 2017. The tour was a success and ultimately helped the band immensely when they announced a Kickstarter campaign to fund Mutations in January 2018. The campaign exceeded its goal by over 30%. Once the Kickstarter campaign ended, the band began work at several studios in Nashville working on 11 songs slated to go on the upcoming LP, Mutations, released July 31, 2018.

Early in her career, Koda performed at the hide museum in 2002. Her version was included on the hide tribute album Tribute VI -Female Spirits-, which was released on December 18, 2013. The track was covered by Sadie for the Tribute II -Visual Spirits- tribute album and by Kiryu for Tribute III -Visual Spirits-, both albums were released on July 3, 2013. In mid-2006, The Red Hearts were approached by Matt Friction of The Pink Spiders to be one of the first singles distributed by his new Mean Buzz Records label. Shortly before the release of the Mean Buzz single, both Cole and Suval left the band. Pops decided to continue the band and recruited Richie Cardenas on drums and Daniel Clodfelter on bass. To add an extra dynamic to the new lineup, Pops also got Dan Collins of The Shakes to join the band full-time (he contributed Farfisa to the Mean Buzz single) on Farfisa organ.

Accessed November 3, 2007. Their single, "Waking Up The Dead", has gained international attention from its odd and popular music video, featuring the band members getting mysteriously kidnapped and transported to a secret location by giant woodland creatures. In the spring of 2008, bassist Brandon Capetillo left the band and was replaced by Nick Fonzi on bass guitar who also ended up leaving the band April 2010 and replaced by longtime pal Alex Maier. The band toured with Yellowcard in the spring of 2008, and spent the summer and early fall touring with The Pink Spiders, The Frantic and Straylight Run.

In 2006, at the age of 17, Simmons and a few of his friends started a band called The Legendary Biscuits and Gravy, with him on lead vocals and alto saxophone, Eric Sexton on keyboard, Brandon Holt on drums, and Wesley Winfrey on tenor saxophone and bassist Brady Surface. In 2007 the band was nominated for the Southern Entertainment Awards Best Indy R&B; Artist of the Year. In 2008 and 2009, the band performed at the Next Big Nashville music festival alongside other nationally recognized Nashville bands, such as The Pink Spiders and Sam & Ruby, and opened for Kanye West, GZA, and Nappy Roots.

In 2010, the group accepted an offer to play at the bar mitzvah of a fan who lived in Los Angeles. On June 20 they held a concert at The Viper Room and Friction announced their return. "We aren't at a place where it's [about] money," said the lead singer in an interview with the Nashville Scene. He also announced that they had resolved their differences, but that Decious would be pursuing other interests — Brandon Jazz assumed bassist duties. Blueprint 76 was a Detroit pop punk group started in 2002 by Royce Nunley after eight years in The Suicide Machines. The band's original lineup consisted of Royce Nunley on lead vocals and bass guitar, Steve Toth on guitar and Joe Reilly on drums. Joe Reilly "Joey Danger" AKA "Joey B-Side" moved back to his hometown of Nashville to drum tech for "The Pink Spiders" who had just been signed to Geffen Records and was filled in by "Porno Bob" for the final tour and Warped Tour dates. Blueprint also lost member Steve Toth and added "Jon Berz" on guitar who also fronts "The Cast, The Camera" and is a multi- instrumentalist for Blasé Splee.

Suretone Records is an American record label established in 2006 as a joint venture by Jordan Schur, former CEO of Geffen Records, and Interscope Records, to release alternative rock music. Several high-profile bands such as Weezer, The Cure, Rooney, New Found Glory and Angels and Airwaves, the new band put together by Tom DeLonge (blink-182) will remain on Geffen and will carry the Suretone imprint. The Pink Spiders (which will be released through Geffen), Headway, Eastern Conference Champions and all newly signed acts, such as Shwayze, will be on Suretone Records and released by Interscope. The label shut down in 2010 after the failures of albums by Chris Cornell and Shwayze.

In 2010, they went on their first North American tour from September 25 to October 10. Their first world tour began with four gigs in Europe from June 28 to July 4, 2011 and was resumed from September to October with five shows in South America and five in Asia. On September 22, 2013, Pata appeared at a concert in memory of Hide, hosted by Sexxx George (Ladies Room), performing in a special band with George, Eby (ex-Zi:Kill), Yoshihiko (heidi.) and Cutt. For the Hide tribute album Tribute VII -Rock Spirits-, released on December 18, 2013, Pata reunited with Spread Beaver members Joe, INA and Chirolyn and Dope HEADz vocalist Shame to record a new version of "Pink Spider" under the name The Pink Spiders.

During his time with the Cars, Ocasek developed a reputation as a producer, and took this role for many up- and-coming bands of differing genres including Bad Brains' Rock for Light and Guided by Voices' Do the Collapse. His other production credits include Weezer's Blue Album and Green Album (both multi-platinum), Suicide, Romeo Void, Hole, Bebe Buell, No Doubt, Nada Surf, Irish folk-punk band Black 47, Bad Religion, Johnny Bravo, D Generation, the Wannadies, Possum Dixon, Martin Rev, Jonathan Richman, and the 2006 album by the Pink Spiders titled Teenage Graffiti. He also produced a portion of the third Motion City Soundtrack album, Even If It Kills Me. In 2014, Ocasek produced Everything Will Be Alright in the End, the ninth studio album by Weezer and his third collaboration with the band, and For All My Sisters, the sixth album by the Cribs.
