New York magazine commented in 2014 that the version of Hoefler Text bundled with the Mac operating system "helped launch a thousand font obsessives." The company specializes in designing original typefaces, often comprehensive type families that include a range of styles or characters: its Gotham typeface for GQ extends to 74 for print alone, and its Surveyor/Obsidian family past 100. Many H&Co; typefaces take inspiration from historical models, and under-examined aspects of typography and lettering, such as Soviet house numbers, metal lettering on bus terminals, engraved maps, and old petrol pumps.

The 1925 Act also granted powers to order the removal or alteration of buildings, trees and hedges causing obstruction or danger, introduced a licensing system for the erection of petrol pumps and introduced powers to set speed limits and to regulate signposts. Grants were made to local councils from the Road Fund for the improvement of roads and, later, their maintenance. When they both caught the attention of an attractive female, Fletcher won a coin toss to ask her out; however, Casper saw her at a petrol station as Fletcher looked for her and asked her out. Furious at a double betrayal, Fletcher tampered with the petrol pumps and sabotaged the IRV, causing Casper to also be deducted three points.

Fuel dispensers are also known as bowsers (in some parts of Australia), petrol pumps (in most Commonwealth countries) or gas pumps (in North America). Besides fuel dispensers, one other significant device which is also found in filling stations and can refuel certain (compressed-air) vehicles is an air compressor, although generally these are just used to inflate car tires (tyres). Also, many filling stations incorporate a convenience store, which like most other buildings generally have electricity sockets; hence, in some cases, plug-in electric vehicles can be recharged. The convenience stores found in filling stations typically sell candy, soft drinks, snacks and, in some cases, a small selection of grocery items, such as milk.

Exemptions included essential services such as personnel of hospitals, laboratories and medical stores, law enforcement agencies, people in need of urgent medical care with one attendant, one person per family going out to buy grocery and medicines within the vicinity of their residence and burials of people that had passed away. 354 Much of the programme's humour derives from its excessively brash style of reporting, and its unnecessarily complex format. The theme tune is deliberately overdramatic and self-important and the opening sequence of each episode is lengthy and complicated, a parody of the overuse of computer- generated credit sequences on news programmes (the graphics throughout were developed by ITN graphics designers). One episode presents false adverts featuring depictions of The Day Today being broadcast in bizarre locations; the night sky over Paris, the sides of the Great Pyramid in Egypt, the "International Hackenbacker Building" in Chicago, and the handles of 400 million petrol pumps across the globe; this is a parody of CNN International's promotions advertising the hotels in which the channel could be seen. Morris presents aggressively, often arguing with reporters and insulting guests on- air, and at one stage provoking a war between Australia and Hong Kong.

Under the EU Measuring Instruments Directive (Directive 2004/22/EC), the certification of measuring instruments and devices used in trade (including beer mugs, weighbridges, petrol pumps and the like) can be done by third parties anywhere within the EU with governments taking "only the legislative and enforcement (market surveillance) functions" and "ensuring that the system of third party assessment ... has sufficient technical competence and independence" (or, in simple language, calibration services were privatised). While the current museum still has several military aircraft on static display - a Douglas A-4 Skyhawk, a BAC Strikemaster Mk 88, a de Havilland Vampire FB5, a Hawker Hurricane Mk IIA (in airworthy condition), and a replica Royal Aircraft Factory S.E.5a - the emphasis has shifted more towards classic and vintage automobiles and motorcycles. The museum is managed by a consortium of private car collectors from Wanaka and focuses mainly on vehicles from the 1930s to 1950s. Specifically, the collection includes several rare cars and examples of automobiles from before World War II, such as a meticulously restored 1934 Duesenberg Model J - the only one in the southern hemisphere, a 1935 Auburn 851 SC, a "one of two" 1918 Packard semi-collapsible Landaulet Fleetwood model from New York, and a handful of pre-World War I vehicles such as a 1907 Ford Model K. Almost all of the cars are in working order and have current registrations and Warrants of Fitness, with some of them on loan by their private owners and taken out for rides occasionally. The displays are complemented by equipment and paraphernalia from the respective time periods, such as old petrol pumps and signs.
