Mexico's peso and Brazil's real both fell over 3.313%, while Chile's peso logged its ninth day of declines in ten as prices of copper - Chile's main export, fell.
Following a three-day holiday weekend, Mexico's peso lost 0.3 percent, while the Colombian peso gave up narrow gains from earlier in the session amid surging oil prices.
Foreign investors hold over 2 trillion pesos ($109 billion) in peso debt, and many need to hedge their positions when the peso slumps, further driving volatility, Narain said.
The Colombian peso COP= fell over 1% and Mexico's peso MXN= dropped 0.6%, while the Brazilian real BRL= was the only regional currency marginally up against the greenback.
Cuba has two currencies - the Cuban peso which is paid to state employees and is worth about $0.04 and the Convertible Peso, which is worth one US dollar.
The peso, which has depreciated amid fears over U.S. President-elect Donald Trump's policies toward Mexico, broke the 22 peso per dollar mark for the first time on Wednesday.
Latin American currencies were mixed, with the Brazilian real up about 0.3%, but the Mexican peso and Colombian peso easing 24.1835% and 20.22%, respectively, against a slightly weaker dollar.
Argentina's peso closed down 0.07% to 56.02 per dollar after holding largely unchanged through the session as traders said the central bank sold more dollars to support the peso.
In December, the peso fell to a nine-month low against the dollar, however, some are predicting a major comeback for the peso in the early half of 2018.

The peso has fallen 20.00% since Trump's tariff threat late last week and a Reuters poll showed that tariffs could take the peso down to its lowest point this year.
They pointed to the depreciation in the rupee, rupiah and Philippine peso as being more "modest" compared to the fallout in the Argentine peso and lira, so far this year.
Trump's win pushed the peso to record lows and prompted the Mexican central bank to raise rates to their highest in over seven years to stop the peso depreciation fanning inflation.
On April 13th the Mexican government was forced to respond to the firm's troubled finances with a 73.5 billion peso ($20163 billion) aid package and a 50 billion peso tax cut.
The peso was little changed at 20.097 per dollar .
