Pierrot can be deemed "tragic" only in a "realistic" pantomime, and Gautier's "review" sets the solitary precedent. (Gautier had obviously had "high" drama in mind: he titled his review "Shakspeare [sic] at the Funambules", invoking memories of Macbeth, and he doubtless expected his French readers to recall the end of Molière's Don Juan—and perhaps of Mozart's Don Giovanni—when the Commander's statue pays a visit to his murderer.) The Enchantress is an off-screen, minor character, but she is responsible for the events in the story, as revealed in the prologue that it is she who curses Prince Adam as the Beast. She pays a visit to the castle one cold winter night and poses as an ugly, old peddler woman, offering a single rose for shelter. After being turned away by the prince twice, she reveals her true self (young and beautiful, yet cruel and hypocritical) and punishes him by transforming him into the Beast, his servants into objects, and his castle into a horrific version of itself laden with ugly gargoyles and grotesque statues. In the short story "Lily" by Jackie Marshall, in Big Finish's Short Trips: A Christmas Treasury, the Fifth Doctor pays a visit to an older Sarah Jane, who has a daughter, Lauren, and an autistic granddaughter, Lily; Lauren's father is named Will. In the Past Doctor Adventure Bullet Time, Sarah Jane is apparently killed—although the story is ambiguous about whether she actually dies—in 1997 when she sacrifices herself so that she cannot be used as a hostage to stop the Seventh Doctor from taking action to aid an escaping alien ship, contradicting her other spin-off appearances. However, the novel takes place during a story arc where enemies of The Doctor were attempting to eliminate his companions from the Timeline (revealed in the later novel Sometime Never...), and Sarah Jane's death may have been reversed when those enemies are defeated. In any case, other stories have shown her alive after 1997.

Unlike the previous episodes the story is not written by Hase Seishu but by Masayoshi Yokoyama. Yakuza 3 takes a departure from the first two games with its choice of setting: instead of focusing on the gritty cityscape of Tokyo and Osaka, it switches gears and sends Kazuma Kiryu to the Ryukyu Islands of Okinawa, where he runs the Morning Glory Orphanage ("Sunshine Orphanage" in the English PS3 version) with his adoptive daughter Haruka Sawamura (she calls him "Uncle Kaz") who accompanied him in the previous episodes and the Movie Version. The story starts in February 2007, shortly after the events of Yakuza 2, with Kiryu, Haruka and Kaoru in a cemetery, where most of their friends and family are buried. Hoping to leave their past behind for good, Kaoru decides to take advantage of her promotion and head to the USA for additional training, while Kazuma plans to take over the orphanage in Okinawa, but first pays a visit to his old rival, Goro Majima, who has since left the yakuza to become a legitimate businessman.
In Series 2, the owner of the spa, Mr. Hutton (Walliams) tries frequently to get her to pay for the increasing cost of her stay at the spa to no avail (Bubbles is prepared to go to any length to avoid doing so, including hiding so long in a tanning bed that she burns her entire body the colour of charcoal). Bubbles seeks to emulate the upper classes; she mispronounces many English words 'a la française' and is unable to pronounce 'v' in certain words ('diworce'). It is also frequently implied she is some kind of debutante, despite being 43 years old and divorced. In Little Britain Abroad, she travels to Monte Carlo to stay with Ronnie Corbett, whom she believes to be one of her oldest friends in spite of the fact he does not know her, and she later pays a visit to a Swiss boutique at a ski resort to borrow a dress for a dinner party, but ends up ruining the dress upon wearing it.
