Less than a day after the season's conclusion, VMI Athletic Director Dave Diles chose not to renew Woods' contract. Woods posted a 17–62 overall record at VMI in seven seasons.

The story resembles Geoffrey Chaucer's "The Squire's Tale" from the Canterbury Tales, the English romance Sir LaunfalHahn, p. 419. and especially the Carolingian romance Pèlerinage de Charlemagne,Noble, p. 262. in which Charlemagne and his paladins visit the Byzantine Emperor, superior to Charlemagne in looks according to Charlemagne's wife. They make a series of boasts about their abilities, and are called out on them by the emperor's spy, but are eventually able to fulfill them with help from God.
In Warcraft III, Arthas was corrupted by the Lich King, and ultimately abandoned the way of the Paladin, killing his father the King and betraying the Alliance to the Scourge. After Uther became possessor of the late King's ashes, he was killed by Arthas, who wished to take possession of the magical urn containing the ashes. This led directly to the collapse of the Silver Hand, and the Paladins became scattered. They now fight under any Alliance flag.
Elliott started his coaching career as the wide receivers' coach for the South Carolina State Bulldogs in 2006. He then served in the same position for the Furman Paladins from 2008 to 2010. In December 2014, he was named co-offensive coordinator to replace outgoing Offensive Coordinator Chad Morris, who left to take over as head coach of the SMU football program.
The seizure of power by the Nazi Party in January 1933 triggered an era of military rearmament in Germany. Hermann Göring, one of leader Adolf Hitler's closest paladins, was appointed commander-in-chief of the Luftwaffe, the aerial warfare branch of the Wehrmacht. The Nazi leadership wanted to forge a link with Germany's military past to ensure continuity between the German Empire and the Third Reich. The air base at Döberitz (Fliegerruppe Döberitz) was renamed Jagdgeschwader Richthofen.

He later considered it one of his favorite moments of his entire career. Julius made his first appearance on the collegiate stage on November 14, 1998 against Stetson, helping the Paladins win the game, 66–59. Julius was named to the NCAA SOCON All Rookie team, a major accomplishment for a freshman from Canada at that time. The tournament used a double-elimination format, with top seeded The Citadel receiving a bye to the second day in order to compensate for the odd number of teams in the league.
Player-characters may be drawn from any of the races, including the three new ones. For character classes, the warrior category incorporates fighters and the rangers, but excludes paladins, who do not exist in Athas. The warrior class also includes a new archetype called the gladiator. Disciplined in a variety of combat techniques, gladiators are automatically proficient in all weapons, receive a bonuses to punching and wrestling attack rolls, and are allowed to specialize in multiple weapons.
The Platinum Dragon has now become a core god in the pantheon and chiefly sees worship from lawful good paladins and clerics. The dragonborn race reveres him as a creator god, while other races invoke him for strength and protection. It is also stated that kings are crowned in his name. Bahamut is also stated to take many forms, ranging from his draconic namesake, an old man, to a fully armed paladin warrior in shining platinum plate armor.
Druids, shamans, and barbarians now practiced primal magic while clerics, paladins, and rangers practiced divine magic. Fourth edition also initially "abandoned the school- of-magic approach" to arcane magic, however, magic school specialization was reintroduced in the fourth edition Essentials line. The fifth edition of Dungeons & Dragons (2014) uses a hybrid system of Vancian and at-will magic. Some classes, such as clerics and wizards, go through the process of preparing spells they can cast everyday from their spell list.
The warrior class in World of Warcraft fills both the roles of tanking and damage. The warrior has the widest array of weapons to choose from in the game, being able to equip every weapon type in the game except for wands. Warriors, alongside Paladins and Death Knights, are the only classes that can equip Plate armor, the heaviest armor type in the game. Warriors can use a wide array of combat skills depending on their specific roles in a fight.
The Renegades, officially the Detroit Renegades and previously the LA Renegades, are a professional esports organization that fields teams in Overwatch, Paladins, Vainglory, Super Smash Bros., Rocket League and iRacing. In September 2016, professional basketball player Jonas Jerebko purchased the rights to the Renegades franchise.
Amazed with his new ability, he leaves his abusive father (Michael Rooker) and runs away from home. Eight years later, an adult David (Hayden Christensen) lives lavishly on stolen money acquired from 'jumping' into and out of bank vaults. One day, he is ambushed in his home by Roland Cox (Samuel L. Jackson), commander of the Paladins, a secret society of religious fanatics who are sworn to trace and kill "Jumpers". Their justification is that Jumpers' alleged omnipresence is blasphemous.

In 2002, Rear-Admiral David Morse, the commandant at the time, decided to change the logo to the royal crown and mailed fist of RMC. Some of the sports teams, namely the Hockey team and the Rugby team, still continue to call themselves 'Redmen' in unofficial forums. Although the uniforms now say Paladins, those teams have never accepted the name change and keep up the old tradition. In 2001, the RMC cut their interuniversity programs from 30 down to 11.
Players can choose from the eight original races of World of Warcraft: humans, dwarves, gnomes, and night elves for the Alliance, and orcs, trolls, tauren, and the Forsaken for the Horde. As in the original version of the game, only Alliance players can become paladins, and only Horde players can become shamans. Races and classes added in the expansions are not available in the game.
The world of the Furioso is based on Carolingian legend, and the Moorish Spain in which the extradimensional travelers find themselves is in the midst of a conflict with the Frankish empire of Charlemagne and his paladins. Somehow they must manage to negotiate their way through the delicate international politics, tiptoe around the treacherous Atlantès, achieve Chalmers' ambitions for Florimel, restore Belphebe's sanity — and survive. Beyond that there are still Bayard and Brodsky to rescue, though those are tasks for later tales.
All Paladins had a code or set of rules that must be followed but because of the differences in point of view between the alignments the rules governing behavior changed from order to order. This allowed for one of the more heinous villains in the game setting, the "Anti-Paladin" or "Blackguard". A complete and utter opposite of a proper Paladin he is one of the dark champions of an evil order. Everything about him is a twisted visage of a Paladin.
He is escorted out of the cordoned off city by a paladin. Unfortunately, their stagecoach is intercepted by a party of clerics (headed by another paladin) from the Church of the Redeemer, whose orders are to kill Ilmar and Marcus. In the ensuing fight, both paladins kill each other, and Ilmar manages to slip away. Shortly after that, Ilmar accidentally encounters Jean, who recognizes Ilmar as the escaped thief, but lets him go, as he has fond memories of Marcus.
He went on to be the captain and high scorer of the Texans and was honored with the MVP of the Tampa Bay Sun Bowl tournament. Dempsey studied the play of Argentina's national team, especially Diego Maradona, and was heartbroken when the news came to Nacogdoches that Maradona would not be playing in the 1994 World Cup game played in the Cotton Bowl. He attended Furman University as a health and exercise science major and a key player for Paladins soccer.
Oddly enough, Goo seems to be regaining some of her memories. Currently on orders from the general in charge of the military squad, Gen14 has invaded the Paladins' headquarters and are ready to confront Gen¹³, which currently consists only of Burnout, Grunge, and Freefall. The fight between the gen-actives and the military branch is over quickly with the Gen14 and military winning. Once they have been captured, Gen¹³ are offered an ultimatum: either join the military and serve them or be executed.

The story is also a chivalric romance which stemmed from a tradition beginning in the late Middle Ages and continuing in popularity in the 16th century and well into the 17th. Orlando is the Christian knight known in French (and subsequently English) as Roland. The story takes place against the background of the war between Charlemagne's Christian paladins and the Saracen army that has invaded Europe and is attempting to overthrow the Christian empire. The poem is about war and love and the romantic ideal of chivalry.
This was then republished, in English, as Ronald and the Wizard Calico (1969). The Picture Lion paperback edition (William Collins, London, 1973) is a paperback imprint of the Hutchinson Junior Books edition (1969), which credits the English translation to Hutchinson Junior Books. Luzatti's original verse story in Italian is about the plight of a beautiful maiden called Biancofiore – White Flower, or Blanchefleur – and her brave hero, Captain Rinaldo, and Ricardo and his paladins – the term used for Christian knights engaged in Crusades against the Saracens and Moore.
The Water Mages played an important role in the expansion. There was a new faction known as the Ring of Water, who had the same relationship to the Water Mages as the Paladins do to the Fire Mages. The main antagonist was Raven, who was second- in-command to Gomez, leader of the Old Camp, in the first game. Raven wanted to command the armies of Beliar, the evil one of the 3 gods, along with a new powerful weapon known as the Claw of Beliar.
During Vincent's final two seasons he earned back-to-back First Team All-SoCon honors. As a junior he ranked 22nd nationally (1st in the SoCon) in rebounding with a 9.7 per game average, and then as a senior his 57.5% field goal percentage ranked 29th nationally. In Vincent's final three seasons he led Furman in both scoring and rebounding. Although he never led the Paladins to a postseason tournament berth, he was named the SoCon co- Player of the Year in 1997–98.
The logo associated with the name had to be simple and easily identifiable for the public. The new name should also be easily incorporated into college chants and songs. Various committees, composed of cadets and staff, came up with twenty-four new names for the varsity teams, such as the Cavaliers or the Red's, the two most popular names were the Sabers and the Paladins. There was vote cast by the staff and students to decide on which of the three top choices would be the one.
In 1841, Abbott returned from Britain to India. He first held a post with a local battalion in Mewar before becoming assistant to the Resident in Indore in 1842. Following the conclusion of the First Anglo-Sikh War in 1846, Abbott was hand picked to become one of Sir Henry Lawrence's "Young Men", also known as The Paladins of the Punjab. These were East India Company officers sent to act as "advisers" to the Sikh ruler.Isobel Shaw, Pakistan Handbook, Hong Kong, Local Colour Limited, (1998) p.
She encounters three maidens who are held prisoner by another witch. They await deliverance by their lovers, the three paladins of the Castle of the Quest. Birdalone is clad by the maidens and seeks out their heroes, and the story goes into high gear as they set out to rescue the women. Ultimately, one lady is reunited with her knight, another finds a new love when her knight is killed, and the last is left to mourn as her champion throws her over for Birdalone.

Dick Sheridan (born August 9, 1941) is a former American football coach and college athletics administrator. He served as the head football coach at Furman University from 1978 to 1985 and North Carolina State University from 1986 to 1992, compiling a career college football record of 121–52–5. A 1964 graduate of the University of South Carolina, Sheridan coached the Furman Paladins to a 69–23–2 record over eight seasons. His Furman teams won six Southern Conference championships and scored two wins over NC State.
Among the casualties there were also two paladins of Charlemagne's, Amelius of Alvernia and Amicus from Beyre.Historiae urbium et Regionum Italiae rariores, Volume 117, page 112-113. The church has been refurbished over the centuries, and the architecture is eclectic, mingling the original Romanesque style, clearly recognizable in the hemicircular apse, with the Renaissance style, to be found in the facade and in the nave. Against the southern side of the portico of the facade, is a building, perhaps a part of the ancient monastery.

The Four Paladins defeated the Khmer army, and Tenasserim became part of Pagan Empire from then on. In the early 1070s, Kyansittha was called into service to defend Pegu (Bago) against the raiders from the direction of Chiang Mai. The Pagan army easily drove out the raiders. The ruler of Pegu, whom Anawrahta had allowed to remain as viceroy for his cooperation in the 1057 conquest of Thaton, sent his young daughter, the lady Khin U, jewels and hair relics as presents for Anawrahta.
Most of Athas is an empty desert, interrupted by a handful of corrupt city states controlled by power-mad sorcerer-kings and their spell-wielding lackeys. The brutal climate and the oppressive rule of the sorcerer-kings have created a corrupt, bloodthirsty, and desperate culture that leaves little room for chivalric virtues common to fantasy settings (hence why paladins are excluded). Slavery is commonplace, gladiatorial duels provide entertainment for the elite, and death permeates the culture. As rain falls only once per decade in some areas, water is more precious than gold.
Arnd, also known as Arnd of Tdon, was a legendary Oeridian hero who lived ages ago, before the Great Migrations. "A humble priest from the south," he is famed for establishing the first paladins of Heironeous among the Oeridian tribes. He is also known as a possessor (in more ways than one) of the artifact known as the Invulnerable Coat of Arnd, which he wore while leading a rebellion against the wizard Virtos. It is said that Arnd's spirit still inhabits the armor that bears his name, attempting to aid the poor whenever possible.
The legend is based on the historical Umayyad invasion of Gaul and subsequent conflict in the Marca Hispanica between the Frankish Empire and the Emirate of Córdoba. The term paladin is from Old French, deriving from the Latin comes palatinus (count palatine), a title given to close retainers. The paladins remained a popular subject throughout mediaeval French literature. Literature of the Italian Renaissance (15th and 16th centuries) introduced more fantasy elements into the legend, which later became a popular subject for operas in the Baroque music of the 16th and 17th centuries.
He had a deep reverence for the Light and wanted nothing more than to safeguard his beloved people from harm. Arthas was inducted into Knights of the Silver Hand at the age of 19. The ceremony was held in the Cathedral of Light in Stormwind City, and was attended by prominent figures such as Genn Greymane, Thoras Trollbane, Daelin Proudmoore, and Jaina Proudmoore, whom Arthas had not seen since childhood. Archbishop Alonsus Faol led the initiation process, which included four of the five original paladins: Uther, Tirion Fordring, Saidan Dathrohan, and Gavinrad the Dire.
Roberts played Kiri, in the adventure fantasy film The Beastmaster (1982), which included a topless swimming scene. She was featured in a nude pictorial in Playboy to help promote the movie, appearing on that issue's October 1982 cover. In 1983, Roberts filmed the Italian-made adventure fantasy film Hearts and Armour (also known as Paladini-storia d'armi e d'amori and Paladins — The Story of Love and Arms), based on the medieval novel Orlando Furioso. She portrayed Velda, a buxom secretary to private detective Mike Hammer in the television movie Murder Me, Murder You (1983).
In high school, Makris played for the Rebels of Vestavia Hills High School, where she lettered three times and won the 2007 Alabama state title. She also played for the Birmingham United youth club, where she won three consecutive Alabama state titles and was team captain, and was a five-year member of the Alabama Olympic Development Program. She later attended Furman University, and played for the Paladins from 2010 to 2013. She was included in the Southern Conference All-Freshman team, as well as the Southern Conference Academic Honor Roll, in 2010.

The French Baroque performing group Les Paladins created a production of the piece in 2019 which was performed in a number of theatres including the Théâtre de l'Athénée, Paris.
Divine spells take their name from the fact that they are mainly granted to clerics by the grace of the cleric's patron deity, although the spells cast by druids, rangers and paladins also come under this category. Divine spells do not need to be prepared from a spell book. These spells are generally less overtly powerful than arcane spells and have fewer offensive applications. Cleric spells are typically devoted to either healing the wounded, restoring lost abilities, and acquiring blessings, or to inflict harm and to curse opponents.
In compensation for their diminished spellcasting ability, paladins and rangers have a more martial focus than clerics and druids. In 2nd edition, divine spells were divided into 16 thematic spheres, with clerics, druids and specialty priests gaining access to spells from different spheres. The core spheres are All (generic divine spells), Animal, Astral, Charm, Combat, Creation, Divination, Elemental (optionally divided into Air, Earth, Fire and Water sub-spheres), Healing, Necromancy, Plant, Protection, Summon, Sun and Weather. Tome of Magic (1991) introduced the Chaos, Numbers, Law, Thought, Time, War and Wards spheres.

As a Demoniac he appears as a towering, armoured humanoid reminiscent of a king or a warlord, with spiraling horns protruding from his head and four tentacles on his back. He fights with an aptly oversized greatsword, which he wields easily with one hand. Before his final fight with Joseph no one ever wounded him, being impervious to even the most powerful weaponry of the Paladins. His powers were somewhat unusual in that he showed a degree of pyrokinesis, the ability to shoot powerful energy blasts, and to heal or even revive living beings.
In 1865, Clifton was performing in London as a musical lecturer and entertainer at the Royal Polytechnic Institute, and, later, at The Crystal Palace. In 1868 he played Krakwitz in Offenbach's The Last of the Paladins, and subsequently appeared at various other London theatres. In 1872, Richard D'Oyly Carte was representing Brunelli as her theatrical agent when she was engaged in the title role of the first English production of The Black Crook in London's Alhambra Theatre in 1872. By that time, Clifton was touring with the Eldred opéra-bouffe company, among others.
Ariosto's poem is a sequel to Matteo Maria Boiardo's Orlando Innamorato (Orlando in Love). One of Boiardo's main achievements was his fusion of the Matter of France (the tradition of stories about Charlemagne and paladins such as Orlando) with the Matter of Britain (the legends about King Arthur and his knights). The name Orlando is a translation of Roland from the 12th-century Song of Roland. The latter contained the magical elements and love interest that were generally lacking in the more austere and warlike poems about Carolingian heroes.
Freshman shortstop Matt Towarnicky and elite-eight catcher Andrew MacClatchie are two of the top recruits in the nation. 2016 figures to be a tough season for the Paladins after losing the best player in school history, William "BigWillie" Wolff. William made a name for himself by pitching that one good game 3 years ago when he struck out a few hitters. They will also miss the former best closer in the SoCon, Matthew Solter, who has since moved on to pitch professionally, even touching 94MPH in recent outings.
In February 2013, Hawke was allowed to sign for Annan Athletic on a free transfer. He scored his first goal for Queen's Park in the penalty kicks victory over Welsh side TNS in the Scottish Challenge Cup in September 2018. Following one season at Hampden, Hawke moved to League Two side Stirling Albion.
He had two passing touchdowns at Western Carolina. He hooked up with Zack Walker for one of the shortest touchdown drives of the year, a career-long 75-yard pass, the longest pass completion of the 2012 season, and 11th-longest in Georgia Southern history, against Furman in a mere 10 seconds. In that game, he threw for a team season and career-best 119 yards against the Paladins. In a victory over Samford, he took over at quarterback and led the Eagles in rushing with 162 yards, averaging 12.5 yards per carry.

The Miracle on the Mountain took place at Kidd Brewer Stadium on October 12, 2002, and was selected as the "ABC Sports Radio Call of the Year." A low scoring affair, the Paladins elected to attempt a two-point conversion after scoring the go-ahead touchdown with 7 seconds left in the game. Leading 15–14, Furman quarterback Billy Napier's pass was intercepted by Josh Jeffries at the 4-yard line. He lateraled the ball to Derrick Black who returned it for a score giving the Mountaineers a 16–15 win.

With the introduction of the allied races in Battle for Azeroth expansion; Dark Iron Dwarf, Lightforged Dranei and Zandalari troll races can all be paladins. In the Warcraft universe's lore, the Paladin was first conceived by Archbishop Alonsus Faol of Northshire Abbey. Faol felt that the contribution to the war effort by pure clerics during the First Great War (Warcraft: Orcs & Humans) would not be sufficient for the battles ahead, and decided to create a more versatile cleric that didn't need protection in combat. Faol's apprentice Lord Uther the Lightbringer became the first Paladin.
A Paladin class was present in the game Diablo II. Unlike many other Paladin classes, Diablo II Paladins don't have to preserve a Lawful Good alignment. Scepters are the only weapon type to come with bonuses to individual Paladin skills. Like all blunt weapons, they deal more damage to the undead. Their skill set is unusual for a Diablo II character class in that they don't have any passive skills, and only ten of their skills, with slight emphasis on healing and anti-undead effects, are combat moves.
The character the class was derived from, Holger Carlsen from Poul Anderson's novel "Three Hearts and Three Lions", was such a figure, but being a knight is by no means a requirement of being a Paladin. They do often join an order, or serve a church, but they can also act on their own. Later editions brought forward the more generalized concept of the Paladin just being the pinnacle of combat related to a particular religious organization. This allowed Paladins of various gods that were of an alignment other than Lawful Good.
Rameau's first attempt at comic opera, the plot concerns an ugly water nymph who believes that Jupiter, the king of the gods, is in love with her.Holden, p. 838 The work was initially called a ballet bouffon, though it was later styled a comédie lyrique, putting it in the same category as Rameau's Les Paladins. It was written for the celebrations of the wedding of Louis, Dauphin of France, son of King Louis XV of France, to the Infanta Maria Theresa of Spain, who, according to contemporary sources, like the title character was no beauty.

He took over a struggling RMC program and made them a contender. The Paladins, who finished 1-21 in 2001-02, had a 14-8 second-place record, behind the national champion Carleton Ravens, in the OUA East the following year. Norman was subsequently named OUA Basketball Conference Coach of the Year, then received the Stuart W. Aberdeen memorial trophy as CIS Coach of the Year. His other previous head coaching stints were at Dawson College (1990–92) in Montreal and Champlain Regional College (1995–98) in Saint- Lambert, Quebec.
In 2007, he appeared in Paladins in Troubled Times, based on Liang Yusheng's novel. He rose to fame after portraying King- in-law with gold wheel in Lee Kwok-lap's The Return of the Condor Heroes (2008), opposite Huang Xiaoming and Liu Yifei. In 2009, he won accolades for his directorial feature film debut, Sichin Hangru. He won a Best National Theme Creation Award at the 17th Beijing College Student Film Festival, a Special Award at the Cologne Mediterranean Film Festival, and a Best Director Award by the Mongolia National Film Association.
Brothers William Stanley "Bear" Rinehart III and Nathaniel Bryant "Bo" Rinehart were raised in Possum Kingdom, South Carolina. The brothers started performing in Seneca after moving there. The Rinehart brothers grew up at a church camp that their father, who was a pastor, ran. The brothers first performed in front of coffee house audiences at Furman University, where Bear, who was named after University of Alabama football coach Bear Bryant, was a wide receiver for the Furman Paladins football team, winning the 2002 Banks McFadden trophy for South Carolina football player of the year.
Following another defeat, they are separated from Fairchild and the scientists as they are abducted by the Paladins, who offer to train them. Unknown to any them, Goo was sent by the remnants of the U.S. military—specifically a branch who specialized in fighting metahumans. The squad was designed to apprehend Gen¹³ and have accordingly been practicing on a small group of Gen14s, of which Goo is a member. Naturally, their practice sessions ended with the Gen14s being killed, cloned, and their minds transferred and later modified so that they do not remember their ordeal.
Lord Torido, also translated as Tori, is the leader of the True Blood Vampire Clan, and is also one of the forty-seven rules of Todeum - a vampire kingdom with three moons. Weed encounters Tor as a part of a questline to free the Morata region and the Paladins of Freya's Church; it was mentioned that the clan possessed more than a thousand soldiers, with the lowest ranking vampire being level 270. At the time, Lord Torido was known to hold a level mark of 400. He first appeared in Volume 3, Chapter 10.
Collins attended South Plantation High School in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, where he was a letterman in football, basketball, lacrosse, and track. He was coached by Doug Gatewood. He was named Broward County Player of the Year as a junior after rushing for 1,786 yards and 28 touchdowns as the Paladins earned seven victories and qualified for the state playoffs. As a senior, he rushed for 1,400 yards and 14 touchdowns despite missing three games due to injury, helping South Plantation to nine wins, the district title and a berth in the 8A state playoffs.
The other play mechanics include the free market economics, which allows the players to design and craft goods, and the player-run social structure, including Houses (formerly guilds) and politics. The world consists of over twenty thousand locations, known as rooms, ranging from common countryside to more exotic and surreal environments. Players may choose among eighteen classes, ranging from familiar fantasy elements such as paladins to more unusual options such as Tarot-using Occultists. Recent structural changes have enriched the environment of Achaea further, by opening up the seas to player controlled ships.
He showed no compunction about killing off popular characters. The "Keepers of the Hidden Ways" trilogy similarly placed people from the real world into a fantasy setting, making heavy use of Norse mythology. A third fantasy series, consisting of the novels D'Shai (1991) and Hour of the Octopus (1994) (both lightly humorous mysteries), was set in an Asian-influenced fantasy world with very strict cultural standards and etiquette. Paladins, the first in his "Mordred's Heirs" series, was published by Baen Books in September 2004; the second, Knight Moves, was published in November 2006.
His military force, the Whelm, is so-called for its use of overwhelming military force to accomplish victory. In the manner of Harun al- Rashid of The Thousand and One Nights, he goes among his people in disguise: often acting under a pseudonym in the guise of an official of his own government. His character acts as a deus ex machina, linking the series of novels together. A fourth authorised novel by Tais Teng, Phaedra: Alastor 824, was published under the "Paladins of Vance" label by Spatterlight Press in 2019.
2009 Army–Navy lacrosse game Though football may receive a lot of media attention due to its annual rivalry game, West Point has a long history of athletics in other NCAA sports. Army is a member of the Division I Patriot League in most sports, while its men's ice hockey program competes in Atlantic Hockey. John P. Riley, Jr. was the hockey coach at West Point for more than 35 years. Every year, Army faces the Royal Military College of Canada (RMC) Paladins in the annual West Point Weekend hockey game.
After the barrier around the prison colony was destroyed, ore supplies for the kingdom have stopped. The king decides to send Lord Hagen with 100 paladins to the island to secure ore. On Khorinis, prisoners that escaped the camp raided the country and seeing as the militia was unable to protect them; some farmers formed an alliance with the refugees and no longer paid allegiance to the king. Evil did not disappear with the Sleeper being banned as with his last cry the Sleeper summoned the most evil creatures.
In the castle, the former old camp, Garond heads the mission of the paladins. He also knows about the dragons, since the castle has already been attacked by them, but is only willing to write a notice on it for Lord Hagen, after the Nameless Hero has gathered information on the status in the mines. By the time the Hero exits the valley with the note about the dragons, the evil forces have become aware of his quest. Seekers are spread throughout the isle, with the goal to kill him.
In the 2016 Doom, the identity of the silent protagonist referred to by Hell's forces as the Doom Slayer is ambiguous. There are several lore pieces (Slayer's Testaments) of his possible origins. One origin states that he is the sole surviving member of an order of paladins known as the Night Sentinels, who were tasked with protecting their home and native deities, the Wraiths, from Hell. The Doom Slayer was considered particularly special, as the seraphim had given him the ability to grow more powerful from the destruction he caused.

In the late 1920s, Eskrima attained a high level of popularity in Cebu City, the second largest city in the Philippines. In 1932, the most renowned eskrimadors, mainly from Cebu, founded Doce Pares as a society to promote the only original native martial art of the Philippines. The name Doce Pares is Spanish, taken from the Twelve Peers or Paladins of Emperor Charlemagne, whose legend the Spanish transmitted to the Philippines through popular literature and theater. To mirror the Twelve Peers, the Doce Pares school had twelve founding masters.
The Doctor teleported the Reapers and Paladins away from the Carrier, preventing further damage to the vessel, but this allowed the Reapers to spread their destruction across the world. Despite the Doctor's best efforts, the Carrier "died" and crashed into London, England. The High arrived at the Pentagon, where he confronted General Somerset and demanded that he stop the Reapers. Unfortunately, Somerset explained that the Reapers are totally compromised from their original programming and are out of control due to entering the Bleed, and now pose a threat to the world.
For the period up to around 1300, some linguists refer to the oïl languages collectively as Old French (ancien français). The earliest extant text in French is the Oaths of Strasbourg from 842; Old French became a literary language with the chansons de geste that told tales of the paladins of Charlemagne and the heroes of the Crusades. The first government authority to adopt Modern French as official was the Aosta Valley in 1536, three years before France itself.La Vallée d'Aoste : enclave francophone au sud-est du Mont Blanc.
Times of curtain up varied according to the curfew imposed; on occasion when the population were collectively punished for acts of resistance by earlier curfews, the curtain had to rise as early as 6pm. The electricity supply became increasingly erratic. The Opera House was forced to resort to improvised lighting consisting of 3 car headlights in the orchestra pit and lights powered by car batteries in the wings. In October 1943 a light opera "The Paladins", with libretto by Horace Wyatt and music by PG Larbalestier, was mounted.
There are six different specialized combat roles equivalent to standard character classes. They are Battlers (warriors), Dark (dark knights), Gunners, Kanbus (ninja), Koas (paladins), and Somas (mages). A character's class determines what types of weapons and skills they can equip. Each class consequently uses a different fighting style: the Kanbus focuses on dual weapons and one-hit attacks, the Koas focuses on a combination of attack and healing abilities, the Dark sacrifices health to deal heavier damage, Gunners specialize in long-range attacks, Battlers focuses on melee attacks, and the Somas use long-range magic over close-range physical attacks.
The M119 is currently fielded with all Regular Army and National Guard infantry brigade combat teams, including those in the 10th Mountain, 82nd Airborne, and 101st Airborne divisions, and the 173rd Airborne Brigade Combat Team. Other divisions may be of mixed composition between armor, Stryker, and infantry brigade combat teams, with armor having M109A6s Paladins and Stryker having M777s for their fires battalions. For example, two of four are IBCTs with M119s in the 25th Infantry Division. National Guard light field artillery battalions assigned to IBCTs also have M119s, for example the 86th IBCT (Mountain) headquartered in Vermont.
The title of "duke and peer" (Fr: duc et pair) is one of the highest honors in the French nobility, ranking just after the princes of the blood, which are themselves the direct descendants of the royal blood and are considered peers by birth. The word peer comes from the Latin paris, meaning "equal in dignity". The peers of the Middle Ages and of the modern period were not descended from the peers, or paladins, Carolingian heroes of song. They were descended from the great possessors of fiefs, members of the curia regis, since the duty to advise was vassalic obligation.
The team also had a home victory over Furman University, coming back in the game to defeat the Paladins in a five-game thriller. Despite the winning streak the College of Charleston once again took the victory away from the Eagles in Hanner Fieldhouse on November 6, and ended the home winning streak of 12 straight matches. This put the team ending the regular conference season at a record of 15-2, earning the second seed in the South Division. This brought them to the Southern Conference Tournament held at Appalachian State, in Boone, North Carolina.
Twelve people compete in a reality competition that takes place against the backdrop of a high fantasy setting, the kingdom of Everealm. While the ongoing storyline is scripted and the contestants are interacting with actors throughout the competition, the actual challenges and eliminations are genuine and determined by the contestants' abilities and decisions. In each episode, the contestants (called "Paladins") compete in a challenge related to events in the storyline. The winning Paladin receives a "mark" of a virtue corresponding to the challenge; it is a medal that the Paladin wears, however, this medal doesn't save them from elimination.
A tier list is a list of playable characters or other elements of a video game, subjectively ranked by their respective viability in high-level competitive settings. Characters listed high on a tier list of a specific game are considered to be powerful characters compared to lower-scoring characters, and are therefore more likely to be used during tournaments. Tier lists are popular in fighting games such as the Street Fighter and Super Smash Bros. series, and MOBA titles such as League of Legends and Dota 2, in addition to hero shooter titles such as Overwatch and Paladins.
Gokhman was born in Moscow (Russia) and moved with her family to Atlanta (United States) in early 1992 when she was not even 2 years old. She attended Milton High School (Alpharetta, Georgia) and played for the school team for three years before attending to Furman University and playing for the Furman Paladins for two years (2008-2009), and also for the Atlanta Silverbacks during the summer of 2010. In that same year, she enrolled at Florida State University majoring in sociology, minor in communications and playing midfielder for the Florida State Seminoles women's soccer team from 2010–2011.
Lamb began coaching as an assistant for the Paladins in 1986 and was the defensive ends coach on the 1988 team that won the NCAA Division I-AA Football Championship. He became the quarterbacks coach in 1989, a position filled until taking over head coaching duties in 2002. In November 2010, he announced his resignation from Furman after the team had missed the playoffs four straight years. On January 20, 2011, Lamb was announced be the first modern head football coach for Mercer University, which began playing football in 2013 after the sport's 70-year absence from campus.
In France, Jean-Baptiste Lully turned to Ariosto for his tragédie en musique Roland (1685). Rameau's comic opera Les Paladins (1760) is based on a story in canto 18 of Orlando (though Rameau's librettist derived the plot indirectly via La Fontaine's Contes). The enthusiasm for operas based on Ariosto continued into the Classical era and beyond with such examples as Johann Adolph Hasse’s Il Ruggiero (1771), Niccolò Piccinni's Roland (1778), Haydn's Orlando paladino (1782), Méhul's Ariodant (1799) and Simon Mayr's Ginevra di Scozia (1801). Ambroise Thomas wrote a comedic one act Angélique et Médor in 1843.
Few collegiate woman golf programs have produced more professionals than Furman, which has 11 former Lady Paladins on the LPGA Tour, including two World Golf Hall of Fame inductees (Betsy King and Beth Daniel). Furman has claimed 18 Southern Conference championships: 1994–2002, 2004–05, 2008–09, 2015–2019. Furman won the AIAW national championship (which became the NCAA Championship in 1983) in 1976 and finished 3rd in 1974, 5th in 1975 and 3rd in 1977. Since 1983 it has made 19 appearances in the NCAA Women's Golf Championship, placing 2nd in 1987 and finishing 10 times in the top 12.
In the Shahnameh, Rostam and his predecessors are Marzbans of Sistan (present-day Iran and Afghanistan). Rostam is best known for his tragic fight with Esfandiyār, the other legendary Iranian hero; for his expedition to Mazandaran (not to be confused with the modern Mazandaran Province); and for tragically fighting and killing his son, Sohrab, without knowing who his opponent was. Rostam was eventually killed by Shaghad, his half-brother. Rostam was always represented as the mightiest of Iranian paladins (holy warriors), and the atmosphere of the episodes in which he features is strongly reminiscent of the Parthian Empire.
The successful premiere was at the Théâtre des Bouffes Parisiens, Rue Monsigny, Paris, on 12 February 1857, subsequently revived, and productions followed in Vienna (as Ritter Eisenfrass) in 1864 and London (as The Last of the Paladins) in 1868.Traubner, R. Operetta — a theatrical history. Oxford University Press, Oxford, 1983. The work had first been performed in England on 1 July 1857 at St James's Theatre during Offenbach's second visit to London, arranged by his father-in-law John Mitchell, when the composer brought the Bouffes company including orchestra and offered 19 different pieces, 11 by him.
The source code of Witchaven, Witchaven II: Blood Vengeance, William Shatner's TekWar, and Corridor 8: Galactic Wars have also surfaced. The legal status of these, however, is unclear. The full source code to an alpha version of Blood was also leaked, and was used as a reference for an otherwise reverse engineered port to Java using LibGDX called BloodGDX in May 2017. This followed from the author's previous port of TekWar released in January 2016, and has been followed up by ports for Witchaven, Redneck Rampage, Duke Nukem 3D, Powerslave, Legends of the Seven Paladins and Shadow Warrior, now all collectively called BuildGDX.
After the end of his junior season at Florida, Martin transferred to Furman University in Greenville, South Carolina, where he had two successful years and set a number of passing records for the Furman Paladins football team. In 2004, his first season at Furman, Martin led the most balanced offense in school history (an average of 226.2 rushing yards and 228.8 passing yards per game). He started all 13 games, completing 198 of 320 passes (61.9%) for 2,792 yards, 22 touchdowns and nine interceptions. Martin also carried 62 times for 292 yards (an average of 4.7 yards per attempt) and three touchdowns.
In the 16th-century Manueline foral ('charter'), the temple is represented, during a period when oral tradition suggested that the temple was attributed to Quintus Sertorius, the famous Lusitanian general (and perpetuated by paladins André de Resende and Mendes de Vasconcelos). It was in the 17th century that references to the 'Temple of Diana', first made by Father Manuel Fialho, began to appear. Although the Roman temple of Évora is often called the Temple of Diana, any association with the Roman goddess of hunt stems not from archaeology but from a legend created in the 17th century by the Portuguese priest.
', (1902), I, p. 135. Cited by Any credible relic claiming to be "Tristram's sword" would have to be broken-tipped, since the Tristan of romance had his sword damaged in combat with Morholt, with the tip lodged in the enemy's skull. Therefore the inference can be made with "little doubt" that this was in fact the sword later called Curtana, according to Roger Sherman Loomis. Although Tristan's sword had no name in early Tristan and Iseult romances, in the Prose Tristan (1230–1235, and 1240) Tristan's broken sword was inherited and called "Cortain" by Ogier the Dane, one of Charlemagne's paladins.
Earlier in the same story arc, Rose asks the spirit to show her true form, which it does, but the reader doesn't get to see what Rose sees. Hope's identity as the spirit is revealed in the final issue of the Super Team story arc, where she explains to Rose Red that hope is neither destiny nor strategy, but that she tries to champion those who can direct their hopes into actions. Hope has several paladins working for her, including Santa Claus, The Little Match Girl, and the false bride from the fairy tale The Goose Girl.
The Hacienda Brothers began in 2002 when friends Chris Gaffney and Dave Gonzalez played together during a planned jam session at the 40th birthday party of their mutual friend Jeb Schoonover. Gaffney was a successful singer and songwriter who had released several albums with the band the Cold Hard Facts and had toured with Dave Alvin. Gonzalez is a singer, songwriter, and guitar player, then mainly active with The Paladins. After playing on stage together, and at the urging of Schoonover (who would become their business partner and manager), they soon joined in Tucson, Arizona, to write and record their first album.
She would earn her second Pitcher of The Year honor. For her final year and facing the Furman Paladins on February 13, Newman belted two home runs to drive in 7 RBIs for her career single game high. Newman later began a career best 23 consecutive wins streak on March 13 to May 11; she threw 134.0 innings surrendering 32 hits, 7 earned runs and 18 walks to post a 0.36 ERA and 0.37 WHIP. She tossed the first of an NCAA record setting season 5 perfect games on March 30, defeating the Indiana State Sycamores with 15 strikeouts.
In the online roleplaying game Avalon: The Legend Lives, the Paladin is a branch of the Knight profession. Like all Knights, Paladins practise the arts of Chivalry (mastery of combat and offensive strategy), Endurance (discipline of the body for enhanced reaction and survival) and Weaponry (the ability to forge weapons and armour from metal ores). Where the Paladin diverges from the standard knightly career path is in their fourth skill of Spiritualism. This skill allows the Paladin to function as something of a holy warrior; a crusader wielding the light and pure spirits to heal and defend his homeland, his allies, and himself.
Hisako Ichiki is a young girl whose greatest aspiration is one day to be an X-Man. While it was originally thought that Hisako was not a member of any of the X-Men's various training squads, a 2010 handbook entry reveals that she was a member of Kitty Pryde's Paladins squad.Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe A to Z, vol. 13 (2010) Along with her friend and fellow student, Wing (whom, after his death, she later describes as being her best friend), Hisako is attacked in the halls of the Xavier Institute by the alien villain Ord of the Breakworld.
A native of East Orange, New Jersey, Peppers originally attended Don Bosco Preparatory High School in Ramsey, New Jersey. He started as a cornerback in his freshman year, before also taking over as a running back as a sophomore. With Peppers, Don Bosco won consecutive New Jersey state championships in 2010 and 2011, and was the top-ranked team in the nation by USA Today in 2011. Peppers left Don Bosco to attend Paramus Catholic High School in Paramus, New Jersey, where he helped lead the Paladins to another state championship over Bergen Catholic in 2012.
Astolfo and Caligorante Astolfo (also Astolpho, Estous, Estoult, Estouls) is a fictional character of the Matter of France where he is one of Charlemagne's paladins. He is the son of Otto, the King of England (possibly referring to Charles' contemporary Offa of Mercia), and is a cousin to Orlando and Rinaldo, and a descendant of Charles Martel. While Astolfo's name appeared in the Old French chanson de geste The Four Sons of Aymon, his first major appearance was in the anonymous early fourteenth-century Franco-Venetian epic poem La Prise de Pampelune.Peter Brand and Lino Pertile.
His death elevated him and the paladins, the foremost warriors of Charlemagne's court, into legend, becoming the quintessential role model for knights and also greatly influencing the code of chivalry in the Middle Ages. There are numerous written works about the battle, some of which change and exaggerate events. The battle is recounted in the 11th century The Song of Roland, the oldest surviving major work of French literature, and in Orlando Furioso, one of the most celebrated works of Italian literature. Modern adaptations of the battle include books, plays, and works of fiction, and monuments in the Pyrenees.

Coach Bobby Johnson Bobby Johnson was hired in 2002 as the head football coach. Johnson had previously coached at NCAA Division I-AA power Furman, leading the Paladins to the Division I-AA title game in 2001, his final year. However, at the time, some questioned the wisdom of hiring a I-AA coach to lead a program in what has widely been reckoned as the strongest football conference in the nation. Vanderbilt officials had pursued and offered the position initially to Gary Barnett and Tyrone Willingham, both of whom had steered small, private universities (Northwestern and Stanford, respectively) to football success.
At this moment, The High sensed that the Reapers were being launched by the Pentagon on the orders of General Somerset to kill the NOTB's prisoners. The Authority were first to arrive at the NOTB bunker after having scanned the superhumans' presence. Due to a misunderstanding, they were forced into battle with the Paladins, who mistook The Authority as government assassins. The High immediately sped away from Skywatch towards the airborne clones in an attempt to destroy the Reapers but realized from a telepathic communication with Jackson King that the only way to stop all of his clones was by finding the "shooter".
Morgante (sometimes also called , the name given to the complete 28-canto, 30,080-line edition published in 1483See Lèbano's introduction to the Tusiani translation, p. xxii.) is an Italian romantic epic by Luigi Pulci which appeared in its final form in 1483; a now-lost 23 canto version likely appeared in late 1478; two other 23 canto versions were published in 1481 and 1482. The work was commissioned by Lucrezia Tornabuoni. Based on popular Matter of France material, the poem tells the story of Orlando and Renaud de Montauban (in Italian, Renaldo or Rinaldo), the most famous of Charlemagne's paladins, in a frequently burlesque fashion.
Felton was all-conference as a senior, in 2007, and closed out his career as Furman’s all-time record holder in scoring with 414 points. In 2006, he was named first-team All-SoCon and helped lead Furman to an 8-4 record, earn a playoff berth, and finish ranked No. 12 in The Sports Network national poll. In 2005, he helped Paladins to an 11-3 record, NCAA I-AA semifinal playoff finish, and No. 3 final national ranking. He led in rushing with 940 yards and scored a team leading 20 touchdowns and set a school single season scoring record with 124 points.

Diablo III features Templars and Crusaders, two other orders of holy Zakarum warriors similar to, but distinct from, the Paladins. The Templars, based in Westmarch, are a secretive group which recruits from the ranks of captive criminals and subjects them to torture and brainwashing until they can no longer recall their crimes, after which they are considered "purified" and inducted into the Order. In-game, the Templars are represented by the companion character Kormac, a warrior who believes himself to be such a criminal. However, his quest for his order's relics allows him to discover the truth: he has been innocent all along, whereas the Order is corrupt.
In combat, Kormac's abilities focus on supporting, protecting and healing the player character. The Crusaders, a playable character class new to the Diablo III: Reaper of Souls expansion, were formed by the cleric Akkhan in order to expose and cleanse the corruption at the heart of the Zakarum faith. Crusaders believe their mission would never end; to this end, each crusader is obliged to train an apprentice who would eventually take up their arms and their very name to preserve their legacy. The Crusaders are notably more focused on offensive abilities than Paladins or Templars, capable of both using weapon- based attacks up close and cast holy magic from a distance.
The series dates to 1913, and has been played every year that both schools have fielded a football team since 1919, with only an interruption of 1943 through 1945 during World War II. Furman dominated the early years of the rivalry, winning 27 of the first 34 contests, which also included three ties. Since 1955, the series has been remarkably even, with many close, hard-fought games and three of overtime contests since 2005. The Paladins and Bulldogs have alternated home sites for most of their history, with contests played twice at the Orangeburg County Fairgrounds in Orangeburg, South Carolina. Furman won both games played in Orangeburg.
King Hákon also commissioned Möttuls saga, an adaptation of Le mantel mautaillé, Ívens saga, a reworking of Chrétien de Troyes's Yvain and Strengleikar, a collection of ballads principally by Marie de France. Works in similar style, which may also have been commissioned by King Hákon, are Parcevals saga, Valvens þáttr and Erex saga, all derived from the works of Chrétien de Troyes. Karlamagnús saga is a compilation of more disparate origin, dealing with Charlemagne and his twelve paladins and drawing on historiographical material as well as chansons de geste. Other works believed to derive from French originals are Bevers saga, Flóres saga ok Blankiflúr, Flóvents saga and Partalopa saga.

Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel became the first Fallout game for consoles when it was released in 2004. It follows an initiate in the Brotherhood of Steel who is given a suicidal quest to find several lost Brotherhood Paladins. Brotherhood of Steel is an action role- playing game, representing a significant break from previous incarnations of the Fallout series in both gameplay and aesthetics. The game does not feature non-player characters that accompany the player in combat and uses heavy metal music, including Slipknot, Devin Townsend, and Killswitch Engage, which stands in contrast to the music of the earlier Fallout games, performed by The Ink Spots and Louis Armstrong.

He never earned a winning season at VMI, though he did lead the 1987–88 team to the Southern Conference tournament finals.2013–14 VMI Basketball Fact Book Cantafio resigned following the 1993–94 season and became the head coach of the Furman Paladins, a Southern Conference foe of VMI.
Originally, paladins were available only to Alliance races and shamans were only available to Horde races, but both classes were made available to both sides in The Burning Crusade. The death knight, introduced in Wrath of the Lich King, is a hero class, with the characters beginning at level 55 (roughly mid-way to a maximum level), already equipped with powerful gear. Creation of a death knight required the player to already have at least one level 55 character on their account, since Legion this is no longer the case. The demon hunter, introduced in Legion, is another hero class that requires the player to have a level 70 character.
The Derby was won by an English connection for the first time when Steve owned by Mrs R. H. Dent (owner of Wattle Bark, winner of the 1937 English Greyhound Derby). The entry for the 1946 event was regarded as the strongest to date and some of those who were eliminated early included St Leger champion Star Point, 1945 finalists Gun Music and Tanner Trail and Oaks champion Paladins Charm. In the first round the Jack McAllister pair Mad Midnight (Celtic Produce winner) and Miltiades (Trigo Cup winner) both won. McAlinden Cup champion Lemon Flash set the fastest time in round one of 30.06 followed by Shroid Abbey in 30.08.
After this, The High then proceeded to destroy the simulation and everyone in it by speeding down into the City from the sky, causing a nuclear explosion. Once awakening in the real world, many of the heroes and villains were confused about what had happened; at first, a few of the Paladins believed that it was still The High's fault, until he was awakened and clearly informed them, with coerced verification from an awakened Sgt. Stringer, of their sixty-year long- term imprisonment, much to everyone's shock. After the prisoners recovered their belongings and costumes, they regrouped with Engine Joe, who reported that he saw Doctor Sin escape from the bunker.
As the fight between The Authority and the NOTB's prisoners continued, Authority members Jenny Quark and the Doctor learned of the Reapers and had everyone teleported back to the Authority's The Carrier residing in The Bleed just before. However, the Reapers managed to reach the Carrier by having one of the Reapers turn into a dimensional gateway. A battle ensued between the Reapers, The Authority, and the Paladins in which one of the Reapers breached the Carrier's engine core and released its power source (a miniature universe), potentially destroying the universe. This forced Jenny Quark to shunt the miniature universe into her body right before kissing the Doctor goodbye.
Henry Lawrence's "Young Men", also known as "the Paladins of the Punjaub", were a group of East India Company officers sent to act as "advisers" to the Sikhs after the First Sikh War in 1846. In the words of George Lawrence, his duties were "to act as a friendly adviser to the native officials". They served under the command of Sir Henry Lawrence, initially the Agent to the Governor General and later also the Resident at Lahore. Collectively these men laid the foundations of British rule in the Punjab and Northwest Frontier between the First Anglo-Sikh War and the Indian Rebellion in 1857.
There are many conflicting explanations, as the sources all disagree, as to whether he fell in battle fighting, was assassinated, or was the victim of friendly fire while marshaling his forces for battle against the Avars.Ross, James B. Two Neglected Paladins of Charlemagne: Erich of Friuli and Gerold of Bavaria. p.213-14 Upon his death, Gerold's body was taken to the Abbey of Reichenau, in southern Germany, where he was interred. Furman Paladins Football In 1988 Furman won the NCAA I-AA National Football Championship. Furman was also a runner-up in the 1985 and 2001 NCAA I-AA National Football Championship game losing to Georgia Southern and Montana respectively, and a semifinalist in 1983, 1989 and 2005. Furman, Colgate, Lehigh, Fordham, Richmond and Villanova remain the only private universities that have appeared in the I-AA Football Championship game, and Furman was the first private school to win it, with Richmond becoming the second 20 years later. Over the past few years, Furman's football team has been consistently ranked in the top 3 spots in the NCAA I-AA polls, and has climbed to no.
De Rozier builds a flying empire above Lake Victoria. He has met and befriended Maddrax and cares for the safekeeping of Matjunis. While emperor de Rozier is away his power hungry paladins, ignorant children and starving peasants begin to bring another version of the French revolution to life. But it always can come worse: From a new hole in the ground close to Kilimanjaro horrible people crawl to the light. The only word they can say is ‘Gruh’ and that's what they're named. The survivors of the hibernation show (except very low state of decay) all behavior of classical ‘slow zombies’, including the fact that minimal traces of the drug are sufficient to cause the side effects.
Charlemagne had a sustained impact on European culture. The author of the Visio Karoli Magni written around 865 uses facts gathered apparently from Einhard and his own observations on the decline of Charlemagne's family after the dissensions war (840–43) as the basis for a visionary tale of Charles' meeting with a prophetic spectre in a dream. Charlemagne was a model knight as one of the Nine Worthies who enjoyed an important legacy in European culture. One of the great medieval literary cycles, the Charlemagne cycle or the Matter of France, centres on his deeds—the Emperor with the Flowing Beard of Roland fame—and his historical commander of the border with Brittany, Roland, and the 12 paladins.
In 2018, Furman placed in the top 75 best colleges in the NACDA Directors' Cup Division I Final Standings, being the only liberal arts college in the US and only member of the Southern Conference to do so. Despite its small size, Furman has had several of its sports teams ranked in the NCAA Div 1 Top 25 in the nation in recent times: men's football at #2 in NCAA-I-AA, men's soccer at #3 in the nation, woman's golf at #8, men's cross country at #7, woman's cross country at #12 and men's basketball at #23. The team nickname, the Paladins, was first used by a Greenville, South Carolina, sportswriter in the 1930s.

In Vanguard: Saga of Heroes, the Paladin is one of three tank classes available. The other two choices are the Warrior and the Dread Knight. Paladins in Vanguard get healing and buff spells and use sword and shield, Dread Knights get life stealing and some other spells and use twohanded weapons like the Greatsword or the Greathammer, and Warriors get higher damage output and use dual weapons just like most melee damage dealer classes in this game (with the exception of the Monk, who can also opt to use some twohanded weapons instead). All three choices are intended to play differently and have advantages under specific conditions, but perform overall about equally well in respect to tanking.
The Paladin in Dragon Nest is an advanced class of Cleric which can be obtained upon reaching level 15. Paladins, unlike Priests, specialize in tanking capabilities. In Paladin's skill tree, most of the skills are blocking and survivability skills which are necessary or important in long-run dungeons called the Nests. Paladin has multitude of roles, being support (they can activate Aura which are beneficial for individual and party performance), secondary damage dealer (via skills in magical skill tree and some in physical skill tree), and the least but not last, also the best role as a Paladin is tanker (provoking monsters to grab aggro to save allies, uses blocking skills for survivability).
Moss played the Saracen hero Ruggero who fell in love with Bradamante in the 1983 Italian film Paladini-storia d'armi e d'amori (aka Paladins—the story of love and arms, aka Hearts and Armor)[1] – a film based on the legends surrounding the Peers of Charlemagne. In 1987, Moss was offered the role of "Ridge Forrester" on a new soap opera, The Bold and the Beautiful. He accepted the part, and the show was broadcast in many nations across the globe[2] and his role has attracted millions of fans worldwide. To this day, Moss is best known for this role and he frequently travels overseas to visit other countries, make appearances, and promote his music.
Takuto's real objective for orchestrating the VF Circuit is to cultivate card-fighters strong enough to lead the clans of Cray into battle against Void. He also explains that he had altered everyone's memories to forget the 3 sealed clans in order to make room for Aichi, Kai, and Ren to use the new clans, Gold Paladin and Narukami, and develop their skills with them. Takuto has also been acting as the host for Incandescent Lion, Blond Ezel as denoted by the green mark on his forehead. After Void is exiled by the efforts of Aichi and his Gold Paladins, Takuto has fulfilled his duty as host and loses the mark as a result.
Depending on the race chosen and the expansions installed, a player then has five to eight of the game's thirteen character classes to choose from. The mechanics of each class vary, with some geared towards melee combat, while others are more suited to attacking from range or casting spells. The game has three roles, DPS (damage dealer), tank and healer; a member of any class can be customized for the DPS role, while members of some classes, known as hybrids, can also be customized as healers, tanks or any of the three roles. Currently available classes are: druids, death knight, demon hunters, hunters, mages, monks, paladins, priests, rogues, shamans, warlocks and warriors.
The revival was related to the "roots rock" movement, which continued through the 1980s, led by artists like James Intveld, who later toured as lead guitar for The Blasters, High Noon, the Beat Farmers, The Paladins, Forbidden Pigs, Del- Lords, Long Ryders, The Last Wild Sons, The Fabulous Thunderbirds, Los Lobos, The Fleshtones, Del Fuegos, Reverend Horton Heat and Barrence Whitfield and the Savages. These bands, like the Blasters, were inspired by a full range of historic American styles: blues, country, rockabilly, R&B; and New Orleans jazz. They held a strong appeal for listeners who were tired of the commercially oriented MTV-style synthpop and glam metal bands that dominated radio play during this time period, but none of these musicians became major stars.
The first military orders of knighthood were the Knights of the Holy Sepulchre and the Knights Hospitaller, both founded shortly after the First Crusade of 1099, followed by the Order of Saint Lazarus (1100), Knights Templars (1118) and the Teutonic Knights (1190). At the time of their foundation, these were intended as monastic orders, whose members would act as simple soldiers protecting pilgrims. It was only over the following century, with the successful conquest of the Holy Land and the rise of the crusader states, that these orders became powerful and prestigious. The great European legends of warriors such as the paladins, the Matter of France and the Matter of Britain popularized the notion of chivalry among the warrior class.
Thieves may even become paladins, although this requires avoiding several side-quests that involve stealing from innocents prior to becoming a Paladin. After becoming a Paladin-Thief, in order to access the Paladin abilities, the thief must refrain from dishonorable actions (i.e. stealing). Also, the character interactions are tied to "Paladin" and supersede any interactions that might be bound to the other characters (to an extent). For example, in the Third Game, the Liontaur Rakeesh will tell the Hero he needs to use his skills as a Fighter/Wizard/Thief to bring peace to Tarna if he is not a Paladin, but if the Hero is a Paladin, he refers to him that way rather than as any of the previous.
The religious aspect harkens back to the historical Paladins' purported role as the bodyguards or right-hand men of Charlemagne, the Protector of Christianity; or alternatively to the religious background of the crusaders, especially Knightly Orders such as the Knights Templar, Knights Hospitallers or the Teutonic Knights. In game terms, a Paladin is thus typically a Warrior character first and foremost, proficient with heavy arms and armor. Yet at the same time a Paladin is gifted with blessings or magical capabilities such as healing, protection, and countering evil magic (including undead), albeit to a lesser degree than a true priest or cleric. Their outlook would typically be that of a militant defender of faith, sometimes crossing over into cleric, missionary, zealot, or inquisitor territory.
Satterfield was named the 1988 AFCA Coach of the Year after leading Furman to an overall 13–2 record while being Southern Conference co-champions and then defeating Georgia Southern in the 1988 NCAA Division I-AA Football Championship Game. Satterfield was the second Furman football head coach to be the AFCA Division I-AA Coach of the Year; in 1985, three years earlier, Dick Sheridan won the award after leading the Paladins to a 12–2 record and a close two-point loss in the National Championship game. Satterfield was the head football coach at Lexington High School, in Lexington, South Carolina from 1996 to 2003. He died of complications from heart surgery in 2019 at the age of 79.
It also remains unknown why the bridge of Alconétar is called Puente de Mantible in the local vernacular, an expression which alludes to the legend of Charlemagne and his Twelve Paladins. The bridge was probably in use until the time of the Reconquista, when the Tagus constituted the border between the Christian and the Moorish realm from the 11th to the 13th century, and the frequent clashes might have easily made the ancient bridge unusable.; According to another theory, the water could have begun to wash away the ancient foundations at the time. The two arches 1 and 3, reconstructed in later times The Alconétar Bridge first appears in records in 1231 and, again, in 1257, when it is explicitly referred to as being in use.
They flee from the court of Charlemagne after Renaud kills one of Charlemagne's nephews (Bertolai) in a brawl. A long war follows, during which Renaud and his brothers remain faithful to the chivalrous code of honor despite their sufferings, until Charlemagne is prevailed on by his paladins to make terms. The four brothers are pardoned on condition that Renaud go to the Holy Land on Crusade, and that their magical horse Bayard, who could expand his size to carry all four brothers on its back, be surrendered to Charlemagne. Charlemagne orders that the magic horse be drowned by chaining it to a stone and throwing it in a river, but the horse escapes and lives forever more in the woods.
"The mild saviour arose as a battle-god, a chivalrous leader of the heavenly host, who found greatest pleasure in combat and the noise of battle; his humble apostles were imagined as proud Paladins" (Der milde Heiland erhob sich zum Schlachtengott, zu einem ritterlichen Führer himmlischer Heerscharen, der das grösste Gefallen fand an Kampf und Waffenlärm; seine demütigen Apostel wurden als stolze Paladine gedacht Alwin Schultz, cited after Otto Zarek, Die geschichte Ungarns (1938), p. 98)Padberg 1998, 87 In the Battle of Tolbiac he prayed to Christ for victory. Clovis was victorious, and afterward he had himself instructed in the Christian faith by Saint Remigius.Padberg 1998, 52 That a pagan like Clovis could ask Christ for help shows the adaptability of Germanic polytheism.

Alerted to the strike team's arrival, Doctor Sin killed the team with the bunker's defense system, leaving only the team's leader, Lieutenant Welles, to survive and enter the bunker. In the NOTB simulation, The High met and told two heroes, Johnny Ray-Gun and speedster Hotfoot, of their imprisonment with support from Sgt. Stringer, who then revealed to The High that the only way to be free from the simulation was for the prisoners to be 'killed' or 'die'. In the real world, Doctor Sin planned on escaping from the bunker; he faked his death by bringing one of the Paladins, Aeronaut, (who bore a strong facial resemblance to the villain) in his place to be killed by Lt. Welles.
Harvey 1925: 27Htin Aung 1967: 33 More recent research by historian Michael Aung-Thwin accepts Anawrahta's conquest of Lower Burma but argues that the chronicle narrative of the conquest of Thaton is a post-Pagan legend.Aung-Thwin 2005: 104–118 Anawrahta went on found the Pagan Empire (also known as the First Burmese Empire) expanding his authority in all directions: northern Arakan in the west, Shan Hills in the north and east, and Tenasserim in the south. Kyansittha partook in all of Anawrahta's expeditions including one to the Nanzhao Kingdom, and in some cases (such as the Tenasserim campaign against the Khmer Empire) led them. Soon after the Thaton conquest, Kyansittha along with his three other "Paladins" were sent to take control of Tenasserim.
In 1990 the Paladins released their third record, Let's Buzz, "an invigorating blend of rockabilly, blues, rhythm-and-blues and country" recorded in the Los Angeles studio of 1970s soul star Leon Haywood (who also played keyboards on the album), produced again by Steve Berlin and Mark Linnet and released by Alligator. Acclaim came with a nomination at the 1990 Entertainer Music Awards (San Diego County) for Best Rock 'n' Roll, Original Music, for which they were a critics' favorite (they lost out to Beat Farmers)."This trio has released three albums of infectious, foot-stompin' rockabilly, the last two on the nationally distributed Alligator Records label and their local shows are almost always sold out." They won the award two years later, a year after winning the San Diego Music Awards.
He complimented the "fun with spacetime distortion", the Mobius Tower, and the Guilders and Maddogs--dimwitted inbred descendants of rogues and paladins, respectively, who became trapped in the tomb over many centuries. According to Morris, "There is the sense throughout this adventure that the characters are agents of destiny, heroes fulfilling a chain of events set in motion long ages ago-- the author has succeeded admirably in creating this effect". Morris compared this module to Temple of Death, feeling that both are excellent adventures for characters of roughly the same level, but that while the characters would have to retire after the world-shattering adventure in Lost Tomb of Martek, the campaign would not necessarily have to end after playing Temple of Death. Doug Cowie reviewed Lost Tomb of Martek for Imagine magazine.
Ogier the Dane's first appearance (spelled Oger) in any work is in Chanson de Roland (c. 1060), where he is not named as one of the douzepers (twelve peers or paladins) of Charlemagne, although he is usually one of the twelve peers in other works. In the poeticized Battle of Roncevaux Pass, Ogier is assigned to be the vanguard and commands the Bavarian Army in the battle against Baligant in the later half. He plays only a minor part in this poem, and it is unclear what becomes of him, but the Pseudo-Turpin knows of a tradition that Ogier was killed at Roncevaux. A full career of Ogier from youth to death is treated in La Chevalerie Ogier de Danemarche, a 13th-century assonanced poem of approximately 13,000 lines attributed to Raimbert de Paris.
The term Matter of England was coined in reference to the earlier Three Matters as termed by the French author Jean Bodel; the Matter of Britain (concerning King Arthur and his knights), of France (concerning Charlemagne and his paladins) and of Rome (retelling of tales from Greco-Roman antiquity). They are thought by scholars to derive features from the language and culture of the "low-born" parts of society and the emerging middle-class. However such stories should not be seen as purely the domain of the English peasant and yeoman as most of these tales survive in Anglo-Norman literary forms. The oldest surviving versions are in many cases written in Anglo-Norman or Medieval Latin—though in most cases, scholars accepted them as originally from the English tradition.
It is the earliest surviving of the chansons de geste or epic poems of medieval France in the langue d'oïl, in what would become the French language. Together with the Knights of the Round Table in Britain, the story of Roland and the paladins have become the archetypal icons of chivalry in Europe; greatly influencing knightly culture and inspiring many Christian warriors that came after. During the Battle of Hastings in 1066, knights and soldiers under William the Conqueror, chanted the poem to inspire themselves before their fight with the Anglo-Saxons. The English expression, "to give a Roland for an Oliver", meaning either to offer a quid pro quo or to give as good as one gets, which is referenced directly from the companionship of Roland and Oliver during the battle.
Williams notably led Artis Gilmore and the Dolphins of Jacksonville University to the final game of the 1970 NCAA Tournament, where they lost to Sidney Wicks and the UCLA Bruins, coached by John Wooden, 80–69. During his eight-year tenure (1970-1978) at Furman, the Paladins made it to the NCAA Tournament five times (1970–71, 1972–73, 1973–74, 1974–75 and 1977–78); won the Southern Conference Tournament five times (1970–71, 1972–73, 1973–74, 1974–75 and 1977–78) and the regular-season SoCon title three times (1973–74, 1974–75 and 1976–77). Williams is one of only 25 head coaches to have led three different teams to the NCAA tournament. He is a 1994 inductee of the Jacksonville University athletic hall of fame, and a 1996 inductee of the Furman University Athletic Hall of Fame.
Konrad von Limpurg as a knight being armed by his lady in the Codex Manesse (early 14th century) Chivalry, or the chivalric code, is an informal and varying code of conduct developed between 1170 and 1220. It was associated with the medieval Christian institution of knighthood; knights' and gentlemen's behaviours were governed by chivalrous social codes. The ideals of chivalry were popularized in medieval literature, particularly the literary cycles known as the Matter of France, relating to the legendary companions of Charlemagne and his men-at-arms, the paladins, and the Matter of Britain, informed by Geoffrey of Monmouth's Historia Regum Britanniae, written in the 1130s, which popularized the legend of King Arthur and his knights of the Round Table. All of these were taken as historically accurate until the beginnings of modern scholarship in the 19th century.
Characters on auto mode or those that are reanimated will never attack an ally and will always try to swap positions. Magic-using characters use spell points to cast spells, regenerating spell points slowly over time or more rapidly while resting. Spells are gained only at level-up by "purchasing" them using spell selection points, which the character receives a set number of based on their stats (although priestly classes instead gained entire levels of spells at a time with every three level-ups in earlier versions of Realmz). When encamped, the party's magic users can store away pre-cast spells for the future by using parchment, a scroll case, and an additional spell point penalty to create scrolls; these scrolls could then be used in the future (even by compatible proto-magical classes like thieves and paladins) without spending spell points.
All of Dalglish's work takes place within his invented world of Dezrel, and much was originally self-published: The Half-Orcs, an R.A. Salvatore-inspired series starring a pair half-orc brothers; The Shadowdance Series, a lengthy adventure starring thieves and assassins; The Paladins; and The Breaking World (published by 47North, which chronicles the creation of his world and the war between gods that is referenced in all his earlier works.) Dalglish also served as editor and main contributor to A Land of Ash, a short story compilation dealing with the fallout from the eruption of the Yellowstone Caldera. Publishers Weekly wrote that, "Dalglish puts familiar pieces together with a freshness and pleasure that are contagious." According to fantasy author Sam Sykes, "Dalglish concocts a heady cocktail of energy, breakneck pace, and excitement.""A Dance of Cloaks".
Coastal, whose baseball team won the College World Series in 2016, joined the Sun Belt Conference for non-football sports the day after it won the CWS, joined Sun Belt football in 2017, and became full FBS members in 2018. Six other schools that play Division I football are full members of FCS conferences. The Citadel Bulldogs, Furman Paladins, and Wofford Terriers are all in the Southern Conference; the Charleston Southern Buccaneers are members of the Big South Conference; and the South Carolina State Bulldogs compete in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference. The Presbyterian Blue Hose played their final season of Big South football in 2019; they will remain Big South members in non-football sports, but the football team will play the 2020 season as an FCS independent before joining the single-sport Pioneer Football League in 2021.
Guitar player/vocalist Jimmy Watkins was absent from the recording of the album and is no longer a member of Future of the Left. As for the title, on an appearance on Conan Neutron's Protonic Reversal Falco elaborated 21 September 2016: > The Peace and Truce of God, pre-chivalry was a code for knights that weren't > exactly the genuine paladins that history would paint them to be, but thugs > with armor riding around the countryside taking what they wanted in every > kind of sense. So the Peace and Truce of God was an attempt to give some > kind of code and set of rules to those people. There's no obvious parallel > with the band, but just generally speaking it had been a rough couple of > years, and it had the feeling of being after a battle.
Writing for Deadline, Nellie Andreeva describes Cursed as "a re-imagining of the Arthurian legend, told through the eyes of Nimue, a young heroine with a mysterious gift who is destined to become the powerful (and tragic) Lady of the Lake. After her mother's death, she finds an unexpected partner in Arthur, a young mercenary, in a quest to find Merlin and deliver an ancient sword. Over the course of her journey, Nimue will become a symbol of courage and rebellion against the terrifying Red Paladins, and their complicit King Uther." In another piece on that site, Andreeva calls the show "a coming-of-age story whose themes are familiar to our own time: the obliteration of the natural world, religious terror, senseless war, and finding the courage to lead in the face of the impossible".
Brigitte was released for play on all servers on March 20, 2018. Kaplan described Brigitte as an "interesting hybrid character", as while she is classified as support, she has many similarities to a tank character. She combines certain elements of Reinhardt (armor and shield) and Torbjörn (providing armor to her allies); as her chosen weapon is a flail, she also bears some similarities to the Crusader class in Diablo III. Brigitte's reveal brought a return of a joking comparison between Overwatch and Paladins by Hi- Rez Studios, a game that also used pre-determine hero characters which had earlier been accused by players of copying the style of Overwatch though ultimately dropped; Hi-Rez's Stewart Chisam pointed out on social media how Brigitte appeared similar in looks and abilities to their character Ash, released in mid-2017.
As Don Luigi could not run the activity any longer, because it implied also a continuous work of maintenance, it was up to Gaspare to get the old little theatre of via Manzoni in order, and represent the enterprises of Charlemagne and his paladins, Guido Santo, Jerusalem Delivered, Trabazio emperor of Constantinople, Saint Genevieve, Beati Paoli, the brigand Giuseppe Musolino and the Battle of Roncevaux Pass. Besides there were some farces with comic popular characters like "Virticchiu and Nofrio". In the 1960s cinema and television attracted young people, so fewer people went to see the Opera dei Pupi. One day, dottor Antonio Pasqualino, who was passionate about Sicilian puppets, decided to buy all that the puppet masters wanted to sell, and created the Museo internazionale delle marionette (International Museum of Puppets) in Palermo; Gaspare sold everything too: his puppets, backclothes, playbills and wings.
In January 1944, Paladin returned to eastern waters as part of a major reinforcement of the Eastern Fleet, joining the 16th Destroyer Flotilla, arriving in Trincomalee on 28 January, escorting the battleships , and the aircraft carrier . On 12 February 1944, Paladin, together with Petard and the cruiser were escorting the troop convoy KR 8 from Kilindini to Ceylon (Sri Lanka) through the One and a Half Degree Channel in the Maldives, when the torpedoed and sank the troop ship , with heavy loss of life (up to 1300 were killed). The two destroyers retaliated with depth charges, and when I-27 came to the surface, Paladin attempted to ram the Japanese submarine, but was badly damaged, with one of I-27 s hydroplanes tearing a long and up to wide gash in Paladins hull causing heavy flooding. I-27 was eventually torpedoed and sunk by Petard.
On the Catholic News Service, auxiliary bishop of Los Angeles Robert Barron said that it is "not a bad movie", as it shows how the wider community shares the responsibility for sexual abuse committed by priests, but that the film is wrong to insinuate that the Church has not reformed. Vatican Radio, official radio service of the Holy See, called it "honest" and "compelling" and said it helped the U.S. Catholic Church "to accept fully the sin, to admit it publicly, and to pay all the consequences." Luca Pellegrini on the Vatican Radio website wrote that the Globe reporters "made themselves examples of their most pure vocation, that of finding the facts, verifying sources, and making themselves—for the good of the community and of a city—paladins of the need for justice." In February 2016, a Vatican City commission on clerical sex abuse attended a private screening of the film.
Hybrid classes are those which can perform multiple roles or have abilities of various types. These include Paladins, knights who possess the ability to take damage or heal with magic or laying on of hands; Shadowknights, dark warriors who use a combination of melee attacks and disease/poison abilities to damage foes as well as take damage for the party; the Bard, a minstrel who is able to use magical songs for a number of effects - including damaging enemies, strengthening allies, and improving the movement speed of themselves and others; Rangers, protectors of nature who learn healing and support magic in addition to being able to damage enemies in close combat or at a distance with bows and arrows; and Beastlords, primal fighters who are constantly joined by their animal wards which help them deal damage, and can assist their teammates with healing and support skills.
In Hall's obituary in the Birmingham Post, he is remembered as "one of [Birmingham City's] most skilful and popular players … who harnessed a keen intelligence to natural footballing ability to make a mark of considerable distinction on the game", adding that "his style of play, which tried to ensure any defensive move was turned smoothly and quickly to attack, and his demeanour on and off the field were classic examples to young devotees of the game". Meanwhile, The Daily Telegraph remarked that Hall "met the physical challenge on the field without flinching and with a fair tackle. Few defenders ever mastered the handicap of lack of height so competently". In 1956, The Sunday Times paid tribute to a Birmingham City defence termed "superb" and opined "clearly if [Gil] Merrick is an emperor among goalkeepers, then Hall and [Ken] Green, Birmingham's backs … are very worthy paladins".
The remains are located in the archaeological area of Metapontum, on the last of the Givoni, ancient sandbanks near the right bank of the river Bradano, built over the remains of a neolithic village on the prehistoric road from Siris-Heraclea, about three kilometres from the ancient city of Metapontum. The temple, restored in 1961, was initially attributed to the cult of the goddess Athena, but a fragment of a vase found in the course of the 1926 archaeological excavations turned out to be a votive dedicated to the goddess Hera, showing that she was the patron of the sanctuary. Until the nineteenth century, the Tavole Palatine were also known locally as the Mensole Palatine (Palatine Shelves) or Colonne Palatine (Palatine Colonnade), probably in reference to the struggles of the French Paladins against the Saracens. The temple was also called the Scuola di Pitagora (School of Pythagoras) in memory of the great philosopher Pythagoras.

Free concerts of organ music are presented regularly at the Spreckels Organ Pavilion, the world's largest outdoor pipe organ, in Balboa Park. San Diego boasts one of the most eclectic local music scenes in California. Once dubbed the "Next Seattle" during the independent rock craze of the early to mid-1990s, San Diego's clubs and cafe's have produced such pioneering rock acts as Stone Temple Pilots, Pierce the Veil, Three Mile Pilot, Rocket From the Crypt, Pinback, Thingy, Drive Like Jehu, Unbroken, Swing Kids, Creedle, Battalion of Saints, Manual Scan, Beat Farmers, The Paladins, The Bigfellas, Morlocks, Crash Worship, Greyboy Allstars, Boilermaker, The Black Heart Procession, The Album Leaf, Tristeza, and Pitchfork, among countless others.
In 1975, Luca Ronconi directed an Italian television mini-series based on Orlando Furioso, starring Massimo Foschi (it) as Orlando, and Silvia Dionisio as Isabella. In the late 1960s / early 1970s, the Bob and Ray comedy parody radio show Mary Backstayge, Noble Wife centered around the Backstayge's stage production of the fictional play "Westchester Furioso", an updating of Orlando Furioso that somehow involved musical numbers, tap dancing and ping pong. In 1966, Italian Disney comics artist Luciano Bottaro wrote a parody of Orlando Furioso starring Donald Duck, Paperin Furioso. In the film Moonstruck there is a reference to one of the character's rejuvenation as a lover as feeling like "Orlando Furioso". Emanuelle Luzzati's animated short film, I paladini di Francia, together with Giulio Gianini, in 1960, was turned into the children's picture-story book, with verse narrative, I Paladini de Francia ovvero il tradimento di Gano di Maganz, which translates literally as “The Paladins of France or the treachery of Gano of Maganz” (Ugo Mursia Editore, 1962).
During the character generation process outlined in the companion volume Character Law, a player can purchase "picks" for spell levels from "A" to "E", which can then be used to learn spells up to a certain level — an "A" pick allows only spells up to level 5 to be learned, while an "E" pick allows spells of up to level 25. At each new level of experience, the character gains one new "pick", which can be added to previous picks to increase the level of spells that can be learned. (Character classes who are not "pure" spellcasters, such as paladins and rangers, can never learn spells above 5th level.) Regardless of what level of spell can be learned, a character cannot cast a spell that is a higher level than the character's class; that is, a 3rd-level character who can learn spells of up to 5th level still can't cast spells higher than 3rd level.

The ideals of chivalry were popularized in medieval literature, particularly the literary cycles known as the Matter of France, relating to the legendary companions of Charlemagne and his men-at- arms, the paladins, and the Matter of Britain, relating to the legend of King Arthur and his knights of the Round Table. Today, a number of orders of knighthood continue to exist in Christian Churches, as well as in several historically Christian countries and their former territories, such as the Roman Catholic Order of the Holy Sepulchre, the Protestant Order of Saint John, as well as the English Order of the Garter, the Swedish Royal Order of the Seraphim, and the Order of St. Olav. Each of these orders has its own criteria for eligibility, but knighthood is generally granted by a head of state, monarch, or prelate to selected persons to recognise some meritorious achievement, as in the British honours system, often for service to the Church or country. The modern female equivalent in the English language is Dame.
Over the manhole, up in the iron-clad tower, Pilot and Captain met as they turned to fly: The hundredth part of a moment seemed an hour, For one could pass to be saved, and one must die. They stood like men in a dream: Craven spoke, Spoke as he lived and fought, with a Captain's pride, "After you, Pilot." The pilot woke, Down the ladder he went, and Craven died. All men praise the deed and the manner, but we--- We set it apart from the pride that stoops to the proud, The strength that is supple to serve the strong and free, The grace of the empty hands and promises loud: Sidney thirsting, a humbler need to slake, Nelson waiting his turn for the surgeon's hand, Lucas crushed with chains for a comrade's sake, Outram coveting right before command: These were paladins, these were Craven's peers, These with him shall be crowned in story and song, Crowned with the glitter of steel and the glimmer of tears, Princes of courtesy, merciful, proud, and strong.
The Advanced Dungeons & Dragons 2nd edition Player's Handbook was a 256-page hardcover book written by David "Zeb" Cook and released in 1989.AD&D; Player's Handbook, 2nd Ed.
