The species name is derived from the Latin ovata (ovally rounded) in reference to the ovally rounded vinculum and the same rounded gnathal lobe of the male, and the distinctive semi-ovally shaped terminal strigula on forewing.

Across the easternmost tip of Ada Huja, due to the alluvial silt brought by the Danube, another smaller island formed across the bank of Višnjica. Because of its originally round shape, it was named Paradajz (“tomato”). It has been growing ever since and is now more ovally shaped.

With the Nissl-method, Fañanas cells can be identified by their slightly bigger, roundish and ovally shaped nuclei, scattered in the molecular and granular layer. The cells need to be prepared with a gold sublimate impregnation by Ramón y Cajal or a silver staining method.

There is only spiral nets on the body whorl, the two upper regions are smooth.The body whorl measures more than five-eighths of the total length. It is ovally attenuated at the base, on which sinuous ribs extend, crossed by an alternating reticulation, which tightens by winding around the siphonal canal. The aperture is very narrow, with almost parallel edges, truncated by the siphonal canal.

Similar, generally darker with the irroration of black scales more dense; the crimson spots are often larger and more brilliant. Anal pouch after fertilization "ovally scoop-shaped in front, convex beneath," furnished with a sharp high carina posteriorly.

The preabdomen (frontal part of the body) was broad and ovally shaped whilst the postabdomen (the posterior part of the body) was narrow and cylindrical. The prosoma (head) was subtriangular in shape with the small compound eyes placed at the front. The metasoma of Carcinosoma was covered in fine and elongated scales and was quite flat, a feature which separates the genus from Eusarcana where the metasoma was almost cylindrical.

There is also an icon of the Theotokos with Christ and young Saint John, made in some of the artisan shops on the Aegean coast. Both icons are from the 16th century. Other important icons are the one of the Saint Archangel Stephen, from the early 19th century, work of Simeon Lazović, and two of the prophets Isaiah and Solomon in the ovally shaped woodcut medallions, taken from the old church's doors. They are all exhibited in the vault, which consists of oak chests on the western wall.
