The year, however, ended in disappointing fashion as he was shown to be out of form in series against Bangladesh and Australia. That then led to him being dropped from the test squad, after the second test. He played his first ODI since 2003 against Australia and made a hard-fought 63 in the first ODI, while also playing his part in a successful 4–1 series win, which made South Africa the number 1 ranked ODI team in the world. With Graeme Smith fit again, McKenzie lost his place in the next ODI squad.
Craddock was out of selection for the start of the 2011–12 season but on 4 December against Sunderland, Craddock was recalled to the starting XI to replace out of form Roger Johnson. On 20 July 2012, it was confirmed that Craddock had agreed a new one-year deal to stay at Molineux. This contract included him being involved in the first-team, but also coaching younger players in the academy. He announced his retirement on 17 May 2013 and was granted a testimonial by Wolves as reward for ten years of service.

Throughout the series there were talks of a possible leap up the order, in front of an out-of-form Paul Collingwood. He started off the series well, and progressed throughout the series with many elegant drives, cuts and pulls. However it was not until the 5th Test in Sydney that he could score his first Ashes century after eleven 50s.
Mendis was totally out of form during the 2018 Asia Cup, where he was dismissed for naught in both games against Bangladesh and Afghanistan. His place in the team was in doubt with poor performances, where he was omitted from the England tour in Sri Lanka. But during the ODI series, Mendis was called into the squad for the remainder of the series against England, as a replacement for Kusal Perera, who suffered a quad strain in the second ODI. In his comeback match, he was again dismissed for naught.
He also tried to sign Stanley Matthews from Blackpool, but a deal could not be reached for the 44-year-old. Low then traded John Cunliffe and £2,000 to Stoke City in exchange for winger Harry Oscroft and centre-half Peter Ford. In March, an out-of-form Graham Barnett was sold to Tranmere Rovers for £5,000, leaving Vale without 'a top-class inside-forward'. In the FA Cup, Vale reached the Fifth Round, and 49,768 crammed into Vale Park to witness a 2–1 defeat to Aston Villa.
In the second Test England named an unchanged team but suffered a heavy defeat by 405 runs after a batting collapse in the second innings. England made two changes for the third Test, with Jonny Bairstow replacing the out of form Gary Ballance and Steven Finn replacing the injured Mark Wood. England went on to win the game by eight wickets after dismissing Australia for 136 in their first innings. James Anderson took 6–47 in the Australian first innings, while Steven Finn took 6–79 in their second innings.
England could still win the series by winning the last three Tests, or hold onto the Ashes by winning two and drawing the other. Denness had made only 65 runs (10.83) so far in the series and was desperately out of form, but his replacement Keith Fletcher was hardly a better bet with 45 runs (11.25) and had been dropped for the Third Test. The vice-captain John Edrich was put in charge, an old pro who had captained Surrey since 1973, but was unlikely to fire up the team or take any chances.
After the timeout, Coria, after breaking serve at the change of ends beat his left breast while staring at his opponent, which Gaudio took as an insult. Coria proceeded to win the last set 6–0, and there was allegedly a confrontation after the match in the locker room. The other was the Davis Cup in the semifinals against Spain in Málaga, where the two top Argentine players Guillermo Coria and David Nalbandian were unavailable due to injury. An out-of-form Gaudio was called up along with Agustín Calleri, Mariano Zabaleta, and Lucas Arnold.
On 1 July 2008, Vrbata, as a free agent, signed a three-year contract with the Tampa Bay Lightning. After starting the 2008–09 season out of form and citing confidence issues, and the fact that his wife was having difficulty during pregnancy, Vrbata asked and was granted permission to return home to the Czech Republic on 8 December 2008. On 2 January 2009, he joined his hometown team, BK Mladá Boleslav. Vrbata's stint with Boleslav, however, was cut short when he was sent on loan to Bílí Tygři Liberec on 29 January 2009.
Stoke then began a three-game week with a home match against Fulham and for the second match at the Britannia the match was settled by a single goal from Charlie Adam. Stoke had several chances to win by a bigger margin but were guilty of poor finishing. The mid-week match against an out of form Newcastle United side saw Stoke come from behind to claim a late victory. Papiss Cissé put the "Magpies" in front just after half time capitalising on an error from Glenn Whelan.
However, he lost his place to Trevor Wood in August 1990. In October, he went on to enjoy a successful two-month loan spell with league rivals Blackburn Rovers, who had Terry Gennoe injured and Darren Collier out of form, playing thirteen league games. He won his first team spot back at Vale in February 1991, and played fourteen games for the "Valiants" in 1990–91. He became the club's Player of the Year once more in 1992 for his ever-presence in the 53 game 1991–92 season.
This was despite starting the season as the bookmarkers' favourite to win the competition. At one point in the season, the team was without eight bowlers, with James Anderson, Andrew Flintoff, and Sajid Mahmood on international duty, while Glen Chapple, Dominic Cork, Kyle Hogg, Peter Martin, and all-rounder Carl Hooper were all injured. Their problems were not blamed solely on the injuries, Watkinson said "quite simply the opposition have done the basics better than us. In addition we've one or two who are out of form on top of the injury list which ripped us to pieces".
From a 1967 NT News newspaper article about that tour of South Africa: But the highlight of the Australian tour was the devastating off-spin bowling of Bill Howell. Left out of the first match because he was thought to be out of form, Howell played in the next five and took 48 wickets at a cost of just over nine runs each. A farmer from Rooty Hill near Sydney and a man with huge hands, Howell was noted for the amount of work he got on the ball. In South Africa Howell was almost unplayable.
In 1984, Ollis was out of form and featured in only six first-class matches, making only 112 runs in them. But he returned to fairly regular cricket in 1985, appearing in 15 first-class matches and turning out regularly for the first time in Somerset's limited-overs side, though without much success. His 55 against Warwickshire was his only score of more than 50 in all matches in 1985, and it was overshadowed by the innings of 322 by Richards, made in less than five hours; Ollis shared a third wicket partnership of 174 with Richards.
Robbins kicked 45 goals in 2006 as a small forward, and in 2007 fell out of favour with the coaching staff and managed only a handful of senior games. By falling out of form and out of favour with the coaching staff Robbins was compelled to announce his retirement following the end of the 2007 season. He kicked three goals in his last game against the Kangaroos, in which was also Luke Darcy's last game. At the conclusion of the match, both Robbins and Darcy were chaired from the ground and given a guard of honour from both teams.
On 31 January 2018, transfer deadline day, it was confirmed that Guedioura had returned to Nottingham Forest, on a contract running until the conclusion of the 2020–21 season, reuniting with former Middlesbrough manager Aitor Karanka. He returned to the City Ground on a free transfer, after having his contract with Middlesbrough terminated by mutual consent. He made his first appearance for the club since his previous departure, on 10 February, when they lost 2–0 to an out-of-form Hull City side, with the Algerian being substituted off in the 77th minute of the league fixture.
After Dumitru's departure, Chiefs hired the Turkish coach Muhsin Ertugral who sidelined Ngobese for the whole season, alleging he was confusing professional soccer for street football. By the time Ertugral left the team at the end of the season, Ngobese was completely out of form. The Turkish international was replaced by a German coach Ernst Middendorp, who relieved Ngobese of his contract duties and was signed by Thanda Royal Zulu where he never played any significant games, and it is here that he was diagnosed with tuberculosis and was forced to hang his boots until he met his demise a few years later.
Rest of India went on to win the match by 404 runs, and Dhawan was awarded the man of the match for his efforts. He was out of form in the 2011–12 Ranji Trophy as he scored 296 runs at an average of 32.88 with no hundreds, while Delhi finished sixth in their seven-team group and could not progress to the knockout stage. Dhawan returned to form in the Vijay Hazare Trophy in February–March 2012, scoring 291 runs in eight matches at an average of 48.50 including three fifties. Delhi managed to reach the semifinal which they lost to Mumbai.

Brown was not recalled for the Fourth Test to open; instead, Hassett was promoted to open with Morris, while the teenaged Harvey came into the middle-order. As Australia were leading 2-0 after three Tests, England needed to win the last two Tests to square the series. England won the toss and elected to bat on an ideal batting pitch. At the start of the innings, Bradman used off theory, but left a large gap square of the wicket in an attempt to coax England's out-of-form top-order to play risky shots into the inviting gap.

On 18 February 2001, Del Piero broke his goal drought, scoring in an away win over Bari. Del Piero celebrated the goal by dedicating it to his father, who had recently died. Del Piero refound his form towards the end of the season, although he was unable to help Juventus capture the Serie A title, despite scoring a goal in a 2–2 draw against Roma.
The following season, he played a little more regularly, featuring in eight of the Gunners' first fifteen matches. At this point in time, mid-November, Arsenal were bottom of the table, having only won four matches. With Arsenal's regular striker Henry White out of form and no money available to buy a replacement, Arsenal manager Leslie Knighton switched Turnbull from defence to up front, and the gamble paid off; Turnbull scored 21 league goals that season, including two four-goal hauls against Bolton Wanderers and Blackpool. Turnbull's goals saved Arsenal from relegation and they eventually finished a comfortable 11th.
Colin Cowdrey, who had made 110 and 103 in the New South Wales match, and Les Favell, who had opened with 84 and 47 for South Australia against the tourists, also made their debuts. Reg Simpson opened with Hutton after his century against Queensland and the out of form Edrich had to come in at number three. There were worries about Ray Lindwall's gastric problems and Alec Bedser's undiagnosed rash, but in the end both were deemed fit to play. Remembering Bedser's hold over the Australian batsmen and that England still held the Ashes, the Australian bookies gave the two sides even odds.

The Chappell brothers recovered the innings with a stand of 100 runs in 155 minutes with Denness rotating his bowlers every four overs so they could rest. Ian Chappell was out of form and took 97 minutes to make 11 runs, but after lunch the fast bowlers were replaced by Tony Greig, who suffered as the brothers took advantage of his poor length. In the end it was Derek Underwood who dismissed Greg Chappell for 58 with the best ball of the day, a leg-spinner which clipped the edge of his bat and was taken by Keith Fletcher at slip.
The out of form Brian Luckhurst and Keith Fletcher were dropped to make room. Geoff Arnold and Chris Old were also dropped as the now fit Mike Hendrick and the spinner Derek Underwood returned to the team, Old somewhat unfairly as he had played well at Perth. This gave England only two fast bowlers, Bob Willis and Arnold, the medium pace and off-cutters of Tony Greig and the spin of Fred Titmus and Underwood. The Melbourne Cricket Ground was slower than it had ever been, with low bounce that would limit the effectiveness of the Australian fast bowling attack.
William Brockwell (21 January 1865 – 1 July 1935) was an English cricketer. Although primarily remembered as a batsman, he began his career as a fast- medium bowler. With George Lohmann, Tom Richardson and William Lockwood carrying all before them, Brockwell had few opportunities until they declined. However, from 1897 onwards, he was a very useful bowler and took 105 wickets in the 1899 season when Richardson was out of form and Lockwood never fully fit. Even in 1902, he took six for 37 on an excellent pitch in the last match of the season against Warwickshire.
David Riley "discussed a transfer", but remained at the club despite being unhappy at starting the season from the bench. A weak defensive performance then cost them at home to Chester City, though Rudge was happy with the performance of Simon Mills, a midfielder who was learning a new position at right-back. A disciplined performance was enough to win a point away at Bury, with goalkeeper Mark Grew in impressive form. With Atkinson injured and Steve Harper out of form, Rudge tried unsuccessfully to bring in Liverpool's Steve Staunton and Bournemouth's Mark O'Connor on loan.
His highest score in the season was an innings of 82 in the game against Warwickshire at Hinckley. In the season as a whole, he made 551 runs at an average of 21.19. Wigginton was badly out of form in 1933 when he averaged only 8.36 runs per innings from 19 completed innings; had he not made a score of 69 in the game against Nottinghamshire, his average would have been only 5.00. But he returned to the team as a regular player in 1934 when, with 709 runs in 22 matches, he achieved his highest aggregate.

Ironically, later in the meeting Sanders (to that point undefeated on the day) had like Collins fallen on the slick track in turn 1 of their heat against the West Germans. Although he had let Collins re-start after falling, the FIM referee of the meeting, Australian Sam Bass, had no hesitation in excluding his fellow countryman from the re-run which was ultimately won by Guglielmi. With the West Germans out of form at Ullevi it was likely Australia would have scored a 5–1 result had Sanders not been excluded. Ultimately, both decisions by Bass helped England secure their record 6th World Pairs title.
Cain was born in Sunderland and started his career with Hebburn Argyle before joining Stoke in 1893, where he took over in goal from the injured Bill Rowley for eleven league matches during the 1893–94 season. In April 1894, he moved to Everton, making his first team debut as a replacement for the out of form Richard Williams in a 3–1 victory over Bolton Wanderers on 6 October 1894. Cain retained his place for a further nine league matches, before Williams was recalled. After two further appearances in March, Cain moved to the south coast to join Southampton St. Mary's for their second season in the Southern League.
His league debut occurred one week later in the 0–1 loss away to Flamurtari Vlorë in the opening championship week. Xhafaj endured a slow start to the season and was out of form in the first matches. He had to wait until 7 November to score his first goal of the season; he netted a header in 39th minute against his former team Teuta Durrës to temporarily level the figures in an eventual 2–1 win. His second of the season came later in round 14 in the 3–2 home win over Skënderbeu Korçë which was the third league win in a row.

His 4–4–2 formation was derided as "outdated" with Steven Gerrard's positioning on the left of midfield also criticized. Capello's squad selection was questioned, with the selection of an unfit Ledley King and out of form Emile Heskey, as well as the surprising omission of Theo Walcott also coming under fire. Capello's indecision over his starting goalkeeper was cited as a reason for Robert Green's error in England's opening match with the U.S. On 2 July 2010, The Football Association (FA) announced that Capello would remain as the manager of the England national team following speculation over his future following the World Cup.
He made four first- class centuries, with the highest being 128 in the match against Essex at Brentwood in 1962. He was awarded his county cap in 1962. In 1964, despite an unbeaten century against Lancashire at Bath, Roe was out of form and he was dropped from the side in July. He played a few matches in both 1965 and 1966 without regaining his form, and with competition for batting places high at Somerset with the return of Roy Virgin as an opener after National Service and the rise of Mervyn Kitchen, he left first-class cricket at the end of the 1966 season.
Australia won the second Test by 122 runs in Sydney on the 5th day, seriously accused of using unfair means and even Ponting's involvement of bribing the umpires to win the test match as it had a huge impact on the series for Australia. With only nine minutes to spare – Michael Clarke took 3 wickets in what would probably have been the second last over. India fought back with a win in the third Test in Perth by 72 runs. Two changes were made to the Indian team for this game, dropping the out of form Yuvraj Singh, and Harbhajan Singh, and recalling Virender Sehwag and Irfan Pathan.
Milik also scored league goals against Cambuur on 11 November and Heerenveen on 5 December, the latter in which he also missed a penalty. On 26 November, Milik scored the 1–1 equalizer against Celtic in the Europa League group stage, where Ajax went on to win 2–1 away in Glasgow. On 20 December, Ajax's final match before the winter break, he also scored the opening goal against De Graafschap in an eventual 2–1 home victory at the Amsterdam Arena. After the winter break, Milik was out of form and got a lot of criticism, having gone scoreless in Ajax's first three Eredivisie matches.
In February Wilf Kirkham was eventually rested, and replacement Stewart Littlewood bagged five in two games to end the run of poor results. Littlewood had previously scored seventy goals for the reserves in just over a season and brought the necessary firepower to help the club surge up the league. Manager Schofield had something of a headache in choosing either the out-of-form legend Kirkham or consistent Littlewood, and only added to the conundrum by signing Blackpool forward Bert Fishwick. Following defeats to doomed South Shields and to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, they finished the season with six consecutive clean sheets, though only won three of these games.
Although their relationship initially improved, Sacchi gave Baggio limited playing time, and he soon fell out of form, along with the rest of the squad, which caused their relationship to deteriorate again. A.C. Milan failed to retain their league title, finishing the season in a disappointing 11th place, and they were knocked out once again in the quarter-finals of the Coppa Italia. Baggio made his UEFA Champions League debut in the 1996–97 season, scoring his first goal in the competition, although Milan were eliminated in the group stage. Milan also lost the 1996 Supercoppa Italiana to Fiorentina, as Baggio was left on the bench.
Never a success at Everton, he played four league games as a substitute in his two-and-a-half seasons at the club. He was loaned out to his former club AGF in October 2000, but even though AGF wanted to sign a permanent transfer deal with Degn, they could not agree on the price with Everton. In July 2001, Degn moved back to Denmark, when he signed a four-year contract with Superliga team Brøndby IF. Out of form, Degn did not find much playing time at Brøndby either. He was loaned out to Vejle Boldklub in the secondary Danish 1st Division in the fall 2002.
Corradi signed for Valencia in the summer of 2004, along with Lazio teammate Stefano Fiore, in a deal which also repaid unpaid transfer fees (€16.6 million) incurred when Gaizka Mendieta moved from Valencia to Lazio for €42 million, while Corradi was valued at €10 million. Corradi opened his season with the Spanish club by winning the UEFA Supercup. However, once compatriot coach Claudio Ranieri left the club, he found his first team appearances becoming less frequent, as he fell out of form. He was loaned back to Italy, playing for Parma for the 2005–06 season, in which he scored ten times in 36 appearances.
The England spinners had been out of form in the last few games, so the tour selectors (Geoffrey Howard, Len Hutton, Peter May, Bill Edrich and Godfrey Evans) chose four pace bowlers and Hutton was committed to bowling first, though this appears to have been his intention since the start of the tour. He was only the second England captain to play a Test match without a spinner, the first being Douglas Jardine in the second Test at Melbourne in 1932–33, a match England lost by 111 runs.Swanton, page 91. Wicket-keeper Evans missed the Test because of heat-stroke and was replaced by debutant Keith Andrew.
In fact, in 1935, though he still took more than 100 wickets, Paine was much less effective for Warwickshire; Wisden for 1936 says that he "suffered from physical trouble", which appears to have been rheumatism, and that he had lost much of the flight and spin that had made him a force since 1931. He was ill for much of 1936, back but out of form in 1937 and after another ineffective season in 1938, he refused the terms Warwickshire offered for 1939 and left first-class cricket, though he reappeared in one match in 1947. In retirement he was a coach at Solihull School.
However, in March 2005, McAuley earned a starting role as the right full-back, replacing the perpetually out of form fan favourite Matt Bloomer. He continued to play in this position for the rest of the season, helping Lincoln to the play-off final, not just with his exceptional defensive performances, but with 5 goals, including both in a 2–1 aggregate victory over Macclesfield in the play-off semi-final. The 2005–06 season, however, saw him cement a spot in the centre of the Imps defence. With Ben Futcher leaving on a free transfer to join rivals Boston United, McAuley took his place.
After surviving a spell reverse-swing bowling from Ishant Sharma and Zaheer Khan, Ponting was bowled through the gate from a sharp turning delivery from part-time off- spinner Virender Sehwag. Ponting and out-of-form opener Matthew Hayden partnered for a cautious 79-run compilation, as both looked to survive on a pitch that was becoming lower and slower. Ponting was more cautious against Sharma than usual, scoring only nine from 26 balls from the tall right-armer quick. Nevertheless, he was more aggressive and assured against spinners Amit Mishra and Sehwag, where he scored 35 from 60 and 17 from 32 deliveries respectively.
In 2011 season, Azmi Mohamed entered in football management as Johor FA manager and guided the team to top 4 finish. Although Johor FA finished within the top spots, they couldn't put themselves for promotion spots to top flight after mid-season out of form. It is reported that he will leave for another Johor team, Johor FC for the 2012 season alongside K. Devan after he had talks with Persatuan Bolasepak Negeri Johor (PBNJ). Mid season of the 2012 league campaign saw K. Devan resigned after Johor FC poor performance and the team filled second bottom of the table which meant that they were in relegation zone.
In the returning leg at home, Kukësi won 2–0 thanks to the goals from Ylli Shameti and Renato Malota, the centre-backs of the team. Kukësi were tasked with out of form Flamurtari Vlorë in the semi-finals. In the first leg away on 6 April, Edon Hasani scored an early goal in the 11th minute which was followed by Shameti's header nine minutes later, which almost had qualified Kukësi in the final. On 20 April, in the returning leg of Albanian Cup, Kukësi recorded another 2–0 win against Flamurtari, securing a 4–0 aggregate victory and progression in the final for the second consecutive season.
In early July 2008, Rafa agreed to join Getafe CF on a Bosman transfer. He would spend most of his first year as left back, replacing out-of-form Lucas Licht who was sold shortly after. In 2009–10, benefitting from consecutive injuries to Mario, Rafa was mostly first-choice. With 27 games and two goals from the player, the Madrid team finished sixth and qualified to the UEFA Europa League for the second time in their history. On 1 September 2014, the last open day of the transfer window, Rafa transferred to newly promoted German Bundesliga club SC Paderborn 07, signing a two-year contract.
A Twenty20 charity match was held between Bangladesh and a New Zealand Cricket XI with the funds raised going to people affected by Cyclone Sidr; the International Cricket Council donated an additional US$250,000 to the funds at the start of the match. Asked to bat first, the New Zealand side had a slow start, having made just 19 runs for the loss of two wickets after 5.3 overs. Most of the batsmen seemed out of form and fell to injudicious shots, with an unbeaten 33 from James Marshall seeing the side through to 133 for seven from their 20 overs. Bangladesh began their innings in a similar manner, losing their opening batsmen early.
Socio-scientific criticism is a development of historical criticism that is part of the wider trend in biblical criticism to reflect interdisciplinary methods and diversity. It grew out of form criticism's Sitz im Leben and the sense that historical form criticism had failed to adequately analyze the social and anthropological contexts which form criticism claimed had formed the texts. Using the perspectives, theories, models, and research of the social sciences to determine what social norms may have influenced the growth of biblical tradition, it is similar to historical biblical criticism in its goals and methods and has less in common with literary critical approaches. At the time of the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, Perkins was out of form and long-time Australian rival Daniel Kowalski was regarded as the favourite. In fact his form was so poor that he almost failed to make the Australian team. Perkins qualified for the 1500-metre freestyle final by a mere 0.24 seconds to be the slowest of the top 8 qualifiers, and it was later revealed that before the race he felt unwell and considered not swimming. From lane eight, Perkins dominated the race being the only swimmer to go under 15 minutes (14:56.40), again relegating Kowalski, who had to fight all the way and just held off Graeme Smith.
With Saleem Altaf injured and Arif Butt out of form, Ahmed was selected for the Second Test. He took 2 for 72 off 37 overs in the first innings,England v Pakistan, Nottingham 1967 but Pakistan lost, and Altaf, fit again, replaced him for the Third Test. He played for a BCCP XI against the touring International XI in 1967–68, and for a strong President's XI against the touring Commonwealth XI a few weeks later, but without notable success. He played for another BCCP XI against the MCC in 1968–69,BCCP XI v MCC 1968–69 and was selected to replace Asif Masood as Pakistan's leading pace bowler for the Second Test in Dacca.
Both the Lee brothers were less successful as batsmen in the 1935 season, and Jack only just completed 1000 runs for the season, finishing with 1011 at an average of 22.46 and failing to score a single century. With fast bowler Arthur Wellard, who had been badly out of form in 1934, taking more than 100 wickets, there was less reliance on Lee's bowling, but he still finished with 72 wickets and his bowling average of 24.38 was the best for a single season of his first-class career. In Harold Gimblett's sensational debut match at Frome in May 1935, Lee was Somerset's most successful bowler, taking nine Essex wickets to win the game.
In 1948, he scored 1328 runs at an average of 36.88 and headed the Leicestershire batting averages for the first and only time. His figures in 1949 were even more impressive – 1742 runs and an average of 38.71 – though he was beaten in the county's averages by Berry, who had been out of form in 1948. The 1949 record included five centuries before the end of June and the five included an innings of 191 against Nottinghamshire which was the highest of his career. Prentice was granted a testimonial in 1950, but had a poor season with bat, losing his place in the team mid-season and regaining it only at the end of the year.
He played in 49 first-class matches for Middlesex, scoring 1,703 runs, with three hundreds, the highest being his 144 at the Oval in 1935, when he and Hendren added 285 in 210 minutes. That was the year of the "leather-jackets" at Lord's, when crane fly larvae ate much of the grass on the pitch, and also of a change in the LBW law. Most of the Middlesex batsmen were out of form, only Human and Hendren scoring hundreds. Human was a tall and powerful batsman; Terence Prittie wrote that "his driving stands out in an era when the development of back-play and leg-side technique has put forward play at a discount".
The back injury returned, though, in 1954 and although he played regularly, he was not suited to slow pitches in a damp summer and his aggregate fell to 912 runs and an average of 21.20. Worse followed in 1955, with only 721 runs in 25 matches at an average of only 17.16, and at the end of the season he was not retained by Essex. Horsfall was signed by Glamorgan for the 1956 season and made a promising start with an unbeaten 77 in a pre- season two-day friendly match against Gloucestershire. But when the first- class cricket started he was out of form and managed only 76 runs in nine innings.
United had a more promising 1962–63 campaign, finishing four points shy of promotion, though Bremner was limited to 24 appearances. He was out of form and dropped from the first team during the end of season run-in, which contained a disproportionately large number of games due to the high level of postponements that occurred during the harsh winter. Revie moved Bremner to central midfield, and bought Manchester United's Johnny Giles to create what would prove to be one of the most highly effective central midfield partnerships of the next 12 years. With Bremner, Collins and Giles in midfield, Leeds went on to win promotion as champions in the 1963–64 season.
The disconsolate mood of the nation was reflected by footage of Ally MacLeod in the dugout with his head in his hands. MacLeod had made strange selection choices, picking inexperienced full-backs and retaining the out-of-form Bruce Rioch and Don Masson. After taking a single point from their opening two games, Scotland had to defeat the Netherlands by three clear goals to progress. Despite the Dutch taking the lead, Scotland fought back to win 3–2 with a goal from Kenny Dalglish and two from Archie Gemmill, the second of which is considered one of the greatest World Cup goals ever; Gemmill beat three Dutch defenders before lifting the ball over goalkeeper Jan Jongbloed into the net.
Heading into Heat 16 of the Final, Billy Sanders was the only unbeaten rider. He won the start from Guglielmi and out of form West German pair Egon Müller and Karl Maier when he unbelievably fell in turn 2 of the first lap. Although Guglielmi went on to win the re-run of the heat, the points lost as a result of Sanders exclusion ultimately cost Australia its first (and only) World Pairs Championship. While Australian referee Sam Bass had no hesitation in excluding Sanders, he had earlier allowed Peter Collins to re-start after video replays suggested that he fell with no help in the first turn of Heat 10 against Denmark.
He suggested Mosinet Geremew and Mule Wasihun of Ethiopia as contenders, along with the reigning World Champion, Geoffrey Kirui, though he noted that Kirui was out of form. In his preview for World Athletics, Mike Rowbottom suggested that the winner was "likely to be Kenyan, Ethiopian or Bahraini", and he concurred that Geremew and Wasihun were the two "clear favourites". Both the high temperatures, and the tactical nature of World Championship races, meant that it was not expected that any records would be set. Abel Kirui held the World Championship record of 2:06:54 achieved in 2009, while Eliud Kipchoge held the overall men's world record of 2:01:39, set during the 2018 Berlin Marathon.

Mike Hendrick was still suffering from his hamstring, Bob Willis from his troubled knees, so Peter Lever was brought in for Willis and Chris Old's good form was finally rewarded with a Test place instead of the veteran Fred Titmus. David Lloyd had an old football injury to his neck flare up and Colin Cowdrey took his place as makeshift opener. John Edrich had now recovered from his broken ribs and was recalled to the team in place rather than the out of form Brian Luckhurst.
Nonetheless, his darting runs on the flanks and his pace continues to be a great asset for his team, and most fans will not forget his winning goal in a crucial World Cup 2006 qualifier against Jordan. He won the 2002 Asian Games and 2004 West Asian Football Federation Championship with Team Melli. There had been rampant speculation that an in form Nikbaht would definitely make Branko Ivankovic's final 23 men list for the 2006 World Cup in Germany. Branko Ivankovic had himself alluded to this by stating that "I love Nikbaht" in an interview, but that his hitherto out-of-form play was the major impediment for him reclaiming his spot in Team Melli.
The 2011 English cricket season began in April. Bresnan suffered a recurrence of his calf injury and as a result was ruled out of England's three-match Test series against Sri Lanka. His return to fitness saw Bresnan pressuring the out of form Stuart Broad for the all-rounder's berth in the Test team, however it was an injury to seamer Chris Tremlett ahead of the second Test that allowed Bresnan back into the side for the first time since the Ashes. Bresnan's all-round effort, which included an innings of 90 and Test-best bowling figures of 5/48, helped England secure a 319-run win over India and go 2–0 up in the series.
Hill was unable to maintain this early success. He was in the Warwickshire side for many of the early matches of the 1959 season, but wickets were fewer in number and also more expensive, and the off-spin of Basil Bridge was increasingly preferred as the spin option as the season wore on. His 30 wickets in 1959 cost 41.20 runs apiece, and there was no greater success in 1960 even though Bridge was out of form; at the end of the 1960 season, Hill left first-class cricket. Throughout his three years in first-class cricket, his batting was negligible, and he reached 20 in an innings only twice, with a top score of 23.
To bolster the Tasmanian team Colin McDonald of Victoria was shipped over with Jim Burke, Norm O'Neill and Peter Philpott of New South Wales. Terence Cowley won the toss and put the MCC in to bat rather than face Frank Tyson, Fred Trueman, Peter Loader and Ted Dexter on a green wicket in English-style conditions. Willie Watson (43) and Arthur Milton (83) put on 99 for the first wicket, Peter May (80) and the out-of-form Colin Cowdrey (72) 123 for the fifth wicket and the M.C.C batted into the second day before declaring on 384/9, Cowley taking 5/92. McDonald used a heavy bat and made 104 before he threw his wicket away in what was obviously going to be a draw.
On 24 June 2013, McCormack signed a two-year contract with Brentford, who had remained in League One after suffering defeat in the 2013 League One play-off Final. He began the 2013–14 season in his natural midfield position, before being moved to right back by manager Uwe Rösler in October, to replace out-of-form Shay Logan. McCormack scored his first Brentford goal in an FA Cup first round tie against local neighbours Staines Town on 9 November, opening the scoring with a penalty in a 5–0 victory. A near ever- present under Uwe Rösler and his successor Mark Warburton, McCormack celebrated promotion to the Championship after a 1–0 victory over former club Preston North End on 18 April 2014.
Wales reached the semi-final for the first time in 24 years with a 22–10 win, as Warburton continued his form, making 21 tackles and a number of turnovers, disrupting Ireland's ball. In the semi-final against an out-of-form France, Warburton became the second Wales player to receive a red card in a World Cup when he was sent off after 18 minutes by the Irish referee Alain Rolland for a dangerous tackle on Vincent Clerc. Warburton admitted the offence at a disciplinary hearing in Auckland, and stated to the press that the decision was fair. However, he stated in his autobiography in 2019 that he actually considered that only a yellow card should have been awarded.
The poor form worsened with a 4–0 defeat at AFC Wimbledon that could have been much heavier without some fine goalkeeping from Alnwick. This caused Smurthwaite to declare that 'Plan B' had been triggered, meaning the signing of "seasoned, higher grade" players, whilst he admitted he felt "a little bit hoodwinked" as Ribeiro's friends in the game (José Mourinho, Aitor Karanka, and Carlos Carvalhal) had provided him with glowing references but had thus far failed to lend any of their players to the Vale. Out of form Walsall then inflicted a 1–0 Boxing Day defeat on the Vale. This proved to be too much for Ribeiro, who announced his resignation hours later; Michael Brown was placed in temporary charge.
Players named as the interchange, also often known as the "bench", are not permitted to enter the field of play unless substituting for a player during the game. Up to four players can be named on the bench; this number has steadily increased from a single player in the 1930s. Representative teams (such as State of Origin teams or honorific teams such as the AFL Team of the Century), practise and exhibition matches often feature an extended interchange bench of up to six or eight players. Until the 1970s, the single interchange player, known as the "nineteenth man" or the "reserve" acted only as a substitution for an injured or out of form player; the player substituted out of the game could take no further part.
Alexander was born in Middlesbrough, and despite receiving offers of a traineeship from Wolverhampton Wanderers and Burnley, began his football career in the youth system of Darlington in June 2002. Guglielmi partnered fellow Sydney rider Billy Sanders in the 1982, 1983 and 1984 World Pairs Finals. The pair finished in 4th place in 1982 at their home track of Liverpool City Raceway in Sydney while improving to finish second in 1983 at the Ullevi Stadium in Gothenburg, Sweden. This could have easily been a World Championship win for Guglielmi had Sanders, who was otherwise undefeated on the day (and the track record holder at Ullevi), not fallen in turn two on lap one of Heat 16 when the Aussie pair faced the out of form West Germans Egon Müller and Karl Maier. Sanders had won the start from Guglielmi but was excluded (by Australian referee Sam Bass) for causing the race to be stopped.
Ponting—batting at three—was involved in a 59-run partnership with Steve Waugh; however, he was dismissed for 43 when he lifted an attempted pull shot. Mark Waugh returned for the next match and Ponting was subsequently dropped until he replaced an out-of-form David Boon in the fifth and final match, where Ponting got a second-ball duck. In a three-day warm-up match ahead of the Tests, Ponting scored 19, with Greg Blewett scoring a century and Langer compiling a half-century.Richardson (2002), p. 48. The performance was not enough for Ponting to force his way into the Test side; though, Australia did regain the Frank Worrell Trophy for the first time in 20 years, winning the series 2–1.
In his one and a half seasons with Everton, Meechan made a total of 28 appearances. In August 1898, Meechan moved to the south coast for a club record fee of £200, when he joined a Southampton team that was dominating the Southern League and contained a host of international and ex- First Division players. So good were they that they easily despatched three top flight clubs, including Meechan's former Everton teammates on their way to the 1900 Cup Final against Bury. On the day of the game Meechan, and his Scottish colleagues were angered by the selection of an out of form English forward, Jack Farrell, over the free scoring Roddy McLeod who had played brilliantly in the games leading up to the final.
Most notable reason for this complete failure was the fact that legendary coach Alketas Panagoulias opted to take a squad full of those players – though most of them aging and out of form – that helped the team in the qualifying instead of new emerging talents seeing it as a reward for their unprecedented success. Furthermore, they had the disadvantage of being drawn into a "group of death", with runners-up at the 1990 FIFA World Cup Argentina, later semifinalists Bulgaria, and Nigeria, one of the strongest African teams. Perhaps surprisingly given his overall lack of captaincy experience Moran was selected as tour captain for Australia's first Wallabies on the 1908–09 tour of the British Isles and North America. Moran leads the Wallabies out in the 1st match of the 1908 Tour at Devonport.Howell points out that of the eight Australian players who had captained either the national, New South Wales or Queensland sides in the previous two years, two were at the end of their careers (Wickham and Richards), another two were out of form and not picked (Skeet Ahearn and Allen Oxlade), leaving four experienced captains in Wood, Burge, James Hughes and Cecil Murin.Howell p32 Howell suggests that the selectors may have favoured Moran with his medical degree and education above the other "more working class" candidates.
A player who is 'in form' may be promoted to a higher batting position, at the expense of a player who is 'out of form'. If a wicket falls near the end of a day's play, especially if the light is failing, or if the bowlers seem particularly confident, the captain may choose to send in a non-specialist batsman, referred to as a nightwatchman. If the nightwatchman does not get out before the end of that day's play then the specialist batsman will have been protected, and will not need to bat until the following day when conditions are likely to have improved. If the nightwatchman does get out, the cost of losing a late wicket will have been minimised, because the specialist batsman is still available to bat.

Collingwood then faced St Kilda in the grand final replay, with the game going much the same as the replay last year with a 57-point victory to the Pies. After this match the Collingwood Football Club raised concerns over the fitness of out-of-form Dane Swan alongside teammates Darren Jolly, Brent Macaffer and Nathan Brown (all injured) and sent them to a high altitude training camp in Arizona so that the four could recover from their individual injuries. Hence they missed the round 12 Queens Birthday clash against Melbourne with Dale Thomas also withdrawn.
The second-place result allowed Parma to qualify for the UEFA Champions League the following season. With Parma, Chiesa won an UEFA Cup, a Coppa Italia, and Supercoppa Italiana during the highly successful 1998–99 season, in which Parma also finished in fourth place in the Serie A. Chiesa became one of the best strikers in Italian football (when not injured or out of form). During his time at the club, he also formed a successful partnership with Argentine star striker Hernán Crespo, as the duo averaged 10–15 goals a season each. They also each scored in the 1999 UEFA Cup Final victory over Marseille, a competition in which Chiesa finished top scorer, with 8 goals. Thomson played rugby union for the Royal Navy before the First World War, appearing as a centre three-quarter in a match against Harlequins at New Year 1914. After the war, The Times carried reports on matches played by both the Royal Navy and by the United Services team in which Thomson features, and he was "one of the outstanding players" in the trial match for the Scottish national side in January 1921. On 12 January 1921 The Times reported his name among those picked to play for Scotland against France as a centre. The match itself was not a success for Thomson: he "was entirely out of form" and "mishandled the ball practically every time it came to him", said the report of the match, a 3–0 win for France.
On 6 December, Wigan returned to the Emirates Stadium to face an out-of-form Arsenal. It was to be Arsenal's day, however, as Emmanuel Adebayor scored against the run of play in the 16th minute to give Arsenal a lead they would never lose and strike a blow to Wigan's confidence, despite a strong attacking threat in the final minutes from Wigan. On 13 December, Wigan hosted a Blackburn Rovers side in very poor form and eased to a 3–0 victory over their north-west rivals. Two early goals within two minutes of each other from Heskey and Valencia finished the game as a contest after 20 minutes with Lee Cattermole eventually ending the game with a third goal for Wigan midway through the second half.
Dick Tyldesley (Richard Knowles Tyldesley born 11 March 1897, Westhoughton, Lancashire, died 17 September 1943, Bolton, Lancashire) was a Lancashire cricketer who was one of the most important figures in Lancashire breaking Yorkshire's stronghold on the County Championship between 1926 and 1930. He was the youngest of four brothers who all played for Lancashire, but were unrelated to the Worsley family that produced the two famous brothers Johnny and Ernest Tyldesley. Dick first played for Lancashire in 1919 and, with Dean out of form and Cook still in the Army, gained a regular place as a slow bowler. Though he kept a perfect length and could flight the ball extremely well, at this early stage Tyldesley had so little spin that he was not a deadly force on sticky wickets.
This was followed by a League Cup fifth round exit to Tottenham and a run of only two league wins in five matches that included a 5–1 hammering defeat at Liverpool on 29 December, meaning that Arsenal's form slipped following a promising start. Arsenal then won 2–0 at home against Chelsea in the Premier League on 19 January but were then knocked out of the FA Cup at the fourth round by Manchester United. During the closing stages of the season Arsenal suffered three consecutive league defeats: a home loss to Crystal Palace and two dismal away defeats by Wolves and Leicester City. Arsenal then drew 1–1 against out-of-form Brighton in the Gunners' final home match of the season, before winning 1–3 at Burnley.
The same season saw Žalgiris returning to European competitions but their UEFA Europa League campaign proved to be short: following 1–1 draw in Vilnius, Admira Wacker Mödling hammered Žalgiris 5–1 in the second leg of the second qualifying round. Žalgiris were considered to be strong favorites for the title before the 2013 season and for much of the season it looked that they would cruise to the championship. Žalgiris had eleven points lead over second- placed Atlantas with five games remaining but four draws in the row followed and before the final match of the season the gap at the top was reduced to three points. In final match out of form Žalgiris proved to be no match for Sūduva and for much of the day prospect of season decider on neutral venue looked very likely.
England had a strong batting line up: Len Hutton (averaging 56.67), Bill Edrich (40.00), Peter May (46.77), Colin Cowdrey (44.06), Denis Compton (50.06) and Trevor Bailey (29.74), with Tom Graveney (44.38) standing in for the injured Compton and out-of-form Edrich in the two Sydney Tests. The main problem was finding a suitable opening partner once Cyril Washbrook (42.81) had retired. Reg Simpson (33.35) was the only other opener in the team and thought the job should be his. He had been on the sidelines for years, and had made 156 not out at Melbourne in the 1950-51 Ashes series when Australia was beaten for the first time in 12 years.
He injured his knee getting out of a deckchair on the Iberia and missed the first two months of the tour, thus reducing the touring team to 15. When he did get to play he was out of practice and out of form. Ted Dexter was flown in from Paris (where his wife worked as a model) in the middle of the tour, having been unlucky to not be picked in the first placep104-105, Swanton, 1977 If he had been part of the original team he would have acclimatised, but although he did well in the tour matches he failed in the Tests, but made 141 in New Zealand. After an indifferent summer against India he was taken the Caribbean in 1959-60 where "Lord Ted" made his name by thrashing the fast bowlers with his ferocious driving.
He was selected in Kevin Sheedy's best team of his 27 years as coach and at number 26 in the 'Champions of Essendon' which was a list of the best of the past century who wore the red and black. Salmon has been quoted saying, that while he has great respect for Kevin Sheedy, he felt at times he didn't get the best out of him, from perhaps lack of communication. But he has also spoken in glowing terms about Kevin Sheedy being good for his career. In such situations such as in late 1985 when Salmon had recently come back from injury, and was out of form and playing in the reserves, Sheedy made a deal with him that if he trained hard, if Essendon made the Grand Final he would play him, regardless of his form.
He enjoyed a successful time with Southampton helping them to dominate the Southern League at the turn of the 20th Century. As goalkeeper, Robinson was instrumental in a string of victories over top flight sides in the F A Cup during this period, especially in getting to the 1900 FA Cup Final where infighting over the selection of an out of form English forward over the in-form Roddy McLeod of Scotland led to fighting between the English and Scottish factions and ultimately led to a very disjointed team performance and a heavy defeat.Giant Killers 1900 Robinson was noted, during his playing career, for his reliability and was, according to author Francis Hodgson, among the first goalkeepers to dive full length to make saves. Touring eastern Europe with Southampton, Robinson played a notable role in introducing modern goalkeeping techniques to Austria and Hungary.
Mohammad Siraj and Karthikeya Kak were added to the squad with former returning from a successful tour with the India A and latter on his form while playing for U-23 while KSK Chaitanya replaced the out-of-form Sumanth as wicket-keeper in the playing XI ahead of the match against the Bengal. The Hyderabad won the toss and elected to field which was affected by the delayed start due to wet outfield as Abhimanyu Easwaran's knock of 186 helped the Bengal post 336 despite the four- wicket haul from Ravi Kiran. In reply, the half-centuries from Rohit and Himalay could not help the Hyderabad get three points as the four-wicket hauls from Ashoke Dinda and Mukesh Kumar helped the Bengal take the first-innings lead of 24 runs in a drawn match.
The club now operate their youth programme out of Cowley Language College's sports facilities, and the clubs system now incorporates a more liberal system, not totally governed by age. Three over twenties can appear for the reserves or Under 20s, and some of the better players of the Under 18s may make a quick transition to the Under 20s if they are good enough. Similarly, some of the first team or Under 20s squad, either those fast tracked too soon, or returning from injury, or simply out of form may be demoted to the Under 20s or Under 18s in order to regain form and playing experience. As well as having Under 18s and 20s sides, St Helens also have two Under 16s sides; a permanent squad made of players on part-time contracts, as well as a service area side based on local amateur players.

Newman eventually finished with 111 and Australian David Thornely made 73 to see Surrey to a final score of 361 – in just 81.4 overs. The first two days at The Rose Bowl were hampered by rain, but amid the showers, Indian bowler Harbhajan Singh took six for 36 as Hampshire crumbled in a rather unimpressive heap for 146.

Newman eventually finished with 111 and Australian David Thornely made 73 to see Surrey to a final score of 361 – in just 81.4 overs. The first two days at The Rose Bowl were hampered by rain, but amid the showers, Indian bowler Harbhajan Singh took six for 36 as Hampshire crumbled in a rather unimpressive heap for 146.
In the University Match itself, Groves top-scored for Oxford with 45 in the first innings, but he and fellow batsman Melville Guest were barracked by the crowd for slow scoring, with 15 consecutive maiden overs bowled by the two Cambridge spinners. In his final year of cricket at Oxford, he only appeared in three matches: he was not required to bat in either innings against the Free Foresters, and only batted once against Leicestershire, scoring 5 runs.
