Through the 1980s and 1990s, Peltz became synonymous with boxing at the Blue Horizon, including an eight-year stretch (1993–2001) of consecutive sellouts in the 1,346-seat building. Peltz was a partner with New Jersey-based Main Events in promotion of the late boxing champion Arturo Gatti from 1991-2004. Towards the end of his boxing career he developed an addiction to cocaine, which he briefly kicked. When he returned to Tacoma, through a series of bad friends and choices, he resumed taking drugs in 1989, becoming addicted to crack cocaine. At the same time, Ezra, Rebecca and Pyoro find out Kalua is missing...but Misty manages to find Kalua and because of how pleased both Ezra and Rebecca are, they have Misty be Kalua's godmother.

He performed at the Blankets and Wine Festival in September 2016 at Lugogo alongside South Africa's Mafikizolo. Giovanni performed with Ssewa Ssewa at 2017 World Music Day at the French school in Kampala, collaborating on each other's original songs.

In late 1997, he and Andrew Mwenda, now managing director and Editor-in-Chief of The Ugandan Independent news magazine, then a reporter with the Daily Monitor, were arrested and charged "publication of false news". Their arrest followed a story in which the paper quoted reports in The Indian Ocean newsletter, that Uganda had become compensated with gold by the Kinshasa government of Laurent Kabila, for its support in, along with Rwanda, in helping to oust the regime of long-term Zaire (now the Democratic Republic of the Congo) dictator Mobutu Sese Seko. They fought the case through the High Court, where their appeal was rejected; went to the Constitutional Court, where again their appeal was rejected; and eventually in 2003 won the most significant court victory for Uganda when the Uganda Supreme Court, against the state, ruled the offense of "publication of false news" to be unconstitutional. In May 1999, during the Second Congo War, Onyango-Obbo and other editors of The Monitor – Wafula Ogutu and David Ouma Balikowa – were arrested and charged with "sedition" and "publication of false news", following the publication of a photograph of a naked woman being sexually abused by men in military uniform.

Set in the year 2039, Japan is the under the rule of a multinational military force called GHQ after the country went into chaos due to the "Lost Christmas" incident ten years prior to the start of the series, when a giant outbreak of an alien virus called the Apocalypse Virus spreads during Christmas, causing the United Nations to send GHQ to contain the outbreak and restore order. The series follows Shu Ouma, an intelligent yet socially awkward teenager who finds himself caught in the war between GHQ and Funeral Parlor (Undertakers), a resistance organization led by Gai Tsutsugami, which aims to liberate Japan from GHQ, when he meets Inori Yuzuriha, the famous Internet Singer of the band Egoist and a member of the Undertakers. Due to various circumstances, Shu acquires a genetic weapon called the Void Genome, also known as "Power of the King", which allows him to extract "Voids", objects with special properties that reflect the personality of their owners from underage individuals.
