However, despite the apparently overwhelming superiority the cruiser had over a man in a spacesuit armed only with a pistol, the story shows the advantage. The cruiser could only manoeuvre with difficulty so close to Phobos, while K-15 could easily outpace it on the ground. Also, despite the cruiser’s firepower, K-15’s gun gave him the advantage over any men (who would be unarmed) that the cruiser might land. At first K-15 tries to keep to the opposite side of the moon, in case the cruiser opens fire on the surface, but later realizes he is better keeping it in sight, just above his horizon. This continues until the arrival of K-15's rendezvous, and the cruiser is forced to flee, where Kingman’s story ends.
Black Noir explains that it was he who engaged in the atrocities portrayed in the photos sent to the Boys (as well as the rape and murder of Butcher's wife), framing the Homelander as a means of forcing VA into giving him a kill order, and subsequently setting up the Boys and Seven against each other. Black Noir kills the Homelander in single combat, though he suffers severe injuries during the fight. While he is distracted by mutilating Homelander's corpse, the military opens fire on him, shredding his body to the point where he can no longer stand or move. These injuries weaken Noir enough so that Butcher can crack open his skull with a crowbar and tear out a large chunk of his brain, finally killing him and avenging his wife.

In both the rated and unrated versions as well as the alternate ending Tech is wounded, possibly fatally, when Benny opens fire on the families' house with an automatic rifle, blasting two of Tink's fingers off, as well as an ear. He appears to have died after the shooting, as he is heard saying to his brother Tex that he would be in Hell for breakfast.

While driving away from Crystal Lake, Violet hits a land mine planted by the soldiers, which causes the truck to crash. Surviving the crash, both Violet and Rich flee from Jason and open fire on him, missing and hitting the tank of the crashed truck, rupturing it and causing it to release liquid nitrogen, which freezes Jason and several soldiers.
A criminal investigation also began weeks after the shooting, when the Independent Police Review Authority (IPRA) forwarded the case to the state's attorney's office and the FBI. The U.S. attorney's office confirmed on April 13, 2015, that they had been conducting a federal criminal investigation of the McDonald case in conjunction with the state attorney's office, after contradictions were found between the initial police report and the dash-cam video. The police report said that McDonald had lunged at an officer, but the video footage showed that McDonald made no lunges. The video does show that McDonald was swinging the knife in his right hand in a wide, but aimless manner as he walked down the street, and also appears to show that McDonald turns slightly to look briefly at Van Dyke and another officer who are pointing guns at him, but that he continues to walk away from both officers at the moment Van Dyke opens fire on him.
