The "wetting down" for such a party term comes from the historical practice of wetting new rank insignia to give it a more weathered appearance. Stevenson House In 1879, Scottish novelist Robert Louis Stevenson stayed at the French Hotel at 530 Houston Street, now called the Stevenson House after him and dedicated to his memory. Stevenson lived there while recovering his health as he was crossing the United States to court his future wife Fanny Osbourne. While there, he often dined "on the cuff," as he said, at a nearby restaurant run by Frenchman Jules Simoneau which stood at what is now Simoneau Plaza. After returning from Sydney, Australia where Archie had spent much of World War II, he purchased a house in Acacia Gardens in West Wickham, Kent and worked in a purpose built studio in the grounds. Archie spent much of the early post war years drawing pin-ups but in the 1960s and 1970s turned his artistic talents to greeting cards which could be seen in the greeting card shops across the UK at the time - having adopted the signature 'Gluckli' as the increasingly well- known identifying mark to Dickens' obvious Archie style. Oscar Udeshi created his brand "Udeshi" in 1999 and was invited as a rising star to Pitti Uomo in Florence and CPD in Düsseldorf, and as guest designer of SEHM in Paris.
