The Dolly Rocker Movement were a neo-psychedelic rock band formed in 2002 by singer and guitarist, Daniel Poulter, the Australian line-up included, Ricky Drabsch (bass), Martin Walters (keyboards) and Christopher Rudge (drums). They released three full-length albums, Electric Sunshine (10 July 2006), A Purple Journey Through the Mod Machine (16 March 2007) and Our Days Mind the Tyme (2009), through independent Australian record label Off the Hip before disbanding in 2013.

Doug E. Fresh has six sons and manages Square Off, the hip-hop group of his sons Dayquan "Slim" Davis and Solomon "Trips" Davis. Square Off released their debut CD entitled Money, Moet & Memories in June 2011. The digital-only release was orchestrated completely by the brothers with little assistance from their father. "When he is involved in something, that's us coming to him...mainly everything we do is our concepts, our own direction," Slim said to the New York Daily News.

In March 1999 The Bo-Weevils undertook their farewell tour and issued another compilation, Get On Down. They had a cult following in Australia and Europe during the late 1980s to mid 1990s, and performed local shows as well as tours to Sydney, Adelaide and Wellington. Elements of their sound are similar to other contemporary Australian bands, Died Pretty, Hoodoo Gurus, The Stems and The Church as well as American group, The Dream Syndicate. In 2007 Off the Hip Records issued a 2× CD compilation album, The Bo-Weevils Anthology.

In December 2007 Off the Hip label issued a 2× CD compilation album by The Philisteins, A Savage Affection: 1986–1992. The first disc contains all tracks from Bloody Convicts, Some Kind and various cover versions; the second disc contains all tracks from Lifestyles of the Wretched and Forgettable and additional tracks from a 1989 demo/rehearsal tape. I-94 Bar music website's reviewer described their work as "stellar brand of psychedelic garage punk" and felt the first disc to be better with "songs [that] are rock solid and Guy Lucas' talent as a vocalist and distinctive guitar player is well evident".

They started work on their debut LP, Psych Ward, at the end of November at Jorge's analogue studio in Gijon, Spain. After five days of recording and a rushed mix they played the Purple Weekend festival at the Estadio Hispánico in León, Spain alongside Kula Shaker and The Electric Prunes. After another mix the album was released in October 2007 on Screaming Apple, Off the Hip and Stomping Ground record labels to positive reviews worldwide. On top of the success of Psych Ward The Urges went to New York to play the Cavestomp festival which saw the return of The Sonics and The Alarm Clocks.
