In the early 1900s the growing Fitzroy Cricket Club (the original parent club of the Fitzroy Baseball Club) was in need of an additional field for its teams to play on. To develop a solution the club arranged a meeting on 17 August 1909 between the Mayor of Northcote, the Mayor of Fitzroy, Councillors from both cities, the committee of the Fitzroy Cricket Club and the Minister for Lands Mr McKenzie. The Cricket Club urged that the 10 acres of the Crown land known as the Inebriates' Retreat, at Northcote, be sold to the Club for recreation purposes at a nominal price.

A Provisional School was described as being one in which temporary provision is made for the primary instruction of children and not being a State school. These schools were established where an average attendance of between 12 and 30 pupils could be maintained and where the local promoters could provide a suitable building at their own expense. These buildings could be built on private land, Crown land or on land vested in the Minister. When the average attendance of the school rose to more than 30, the school committee was expected to raise the requisite one-fifth local contribution towards the cost of a State school. It is the change in a relative price that prompts a change in the quantity demanded. The building was constructed in 1922 as Inverness School, the town's public "white school," which housed white students in grades 1-12 until the end of the era of racial segregation. Central Delta Academy was permitted to purchase the building and land from the public school system at the outset of mandatory desegregation, as nearly all of the parents of white students who attended the school when segregation was terminated refused to permit their children to attend school with black students, so they promptly established the all-white CDA for their children to attend. Since most of the white students who had formerly attended the school were no longer in the public schools which, in turn, diminished the public schools' infrastructure requirements, the facility was deemed excess to the public school system and title was transferred to CDA upon payment of a nominal price. This served to perpetuate racial segregation, albeit not thereafter government-sponsored segregation.

Heavier, sour crude oils lacking in tidewater access—such as Western Canadian Select—are less expensive than lighter, sweeter oil—such as WTI. According to a January 2020 EIA report, the average price of Brent crude oil in 2019 was $64 per barrel compared to $71 per barrel in 2018.
