Since the Persian Wars, the items were common for Athenian hoplites. Although at the time when the vase was created, the Athenian fleet was acquiring an ever more significant part in Athenian warfare, the hoplite remained the ideal citizen in arms and was depicted in an idealised form for a long time. Also long hair was no longer in fashion at the time of the creation of the vase and referred back to the Late Archaic, heroic period of the Persian Wars.

Oldfield theorised that the incident helped to convince Virgin management to switch from being a predominantly progressive rock label and to begin supporting punk bands, who were becoming popular. Construction workers at Orpheum Darmstadt In 1877 Großherzog Ludwig IV built a skating ring for his wife Alice located in the northeast of Darmstadt, between the rail tracks and a road which today is called Spessartring. Friedrich Kranich, a traditional craftsman was commissioned to build the skating ring. In later years when skating was no longer in fashion the location was used as garrison administration. In 1895 the circular building was bought by the Fink family and turned into a 1200-seat theater named the Orpheum.

Gandartes enters the scene; Timagenes, lusting for revenge and believing him to be Poros, has revealed to him his traitorous scheme. But Poros has other worries of a more personal nature. Then follows a scene in which Eryxene, long betrothed to Gandartes, delicately prepares him for the news that she does not feel bound to a faithfulness that extends to the realm of thought, saying that "this sort of absolute devotion is no longer in fashion." If she is to choose him, then it will be only of her own free will.

The mill's original water power features, including head and tail races, have been filled in. The date of its oldest portions is difficult to assess: when it was cleary associated with the firm of Blackinton and Phillips in the 1850s, it may have already included portions of an earlier millworks on the site, which were known to have been built as far back as 1828. Some portions of the mill show signs of Greek Revival architecture, which was no longer in fashion in the 1850s. Many histories give the mills construction date as 1864, because that is the date it was converted to for use as a woolen mill.

"Down and Out", one of the three tracks written collectively, was written during the band's rehearsals. Thompson found its more complex time signature difficult to reproduce on stage at first as Collins could not explain the riff and rhythm which Rutherford noted merely "added to the confusion". Collins wrote the lyrics, which concern American record labels who drop artists when they are no longer in fashion; the chorus is spoken from the artists's view and the verses from the label. The band had originally planned to develop and arrange Banks's song "Undertow" further, but its basic track of guitar, drums and piano, coupled with its simple chorus, was strong enough to keep as it was.

In a 1794 sermon on The Duty of Man in Perilous Times cited by The English Review he warned: "Let the superior ranks beware how they introduce into society an irreverence for God, and a distaste for religion; for they cannot do so but at their peril." The lower ranks are taught their duty, and warned against: the dangers of civil convulsion, with equal propriety. Hewat's History of South Carolina and Georgia includes observations of the peoples of the area, so although its account of early history may be inaccurate to a degree and his historical interpretation of the events of the times no longer in fashion, his observation of facts continues to be cited, especially his accounts of slaves and Native Americans. Hewat may have been only a "gentleman historian" but he had the advantage of first- hand observation, with the ability, time, and local contacts required for a remarkably dispassionate account of pre-revolutionary Carolina.
