A community project of the Junior League of Pasadena, Kidspace addressed an educational need in the San Gabriel Valley: increased access to the arts, humanities and sciences for children. Volunteers created and presented a prototype interactive exhibit, "Making Senses," designed to stimulate the interest of children by featuring robotics and neon light displays. More than 10,000 young visitors, their parents and teachers participated in the first exhibition during its six-week run.
Thus the ionized air was electrically conductive and an electric current flowed through the tube. Geissler tubes had enough air in them that the electrons could only travel a tiny distance before colliding with an atom. The electrons in these tubes moved in a slow diffusion process, never gaining much speed, so these tubes didn't produce cathode rays. Instead, they produced a colorful glow discharge (as in a modern neon light), caused when the electrons struck gas atoms, exciting their orbital electrons to higher energy levels.
Her Bodega project stems from this belief and her "characters populating the bodegas of Harlem, these groceries of the corner, true microcosms emblems of the black and Latin diasporas in New York". Part of this series is her works she calls Hammer Projects include Rainbow, Big Red, My Guy, Ice Cream, and Loosie in the Park. Self also includes neon light signs, consisting of words such as “Abierto/ Open”, “Coffee/ Teas”, “EBT/ ATM”, and “Lotto”, which represent the LED lights that typically reside in these facilities.
In August 2014, Shelton announced that his ninth studio album, Bringing Back the Sunshine, would be released on September 30, 2014. The album contains the singles "Neon Light", "Lonely Tonight" (a duet with fellow country singer Ashley Monroe), "Sangria" and "Gonna". All four singles have reached No. 1 on the Country Airplay chart. On November 13, 2014, Shelton was inducted into the Oklahoma Hall of Fame for his achievements in the music industry and for the generous work he has done for his home state.
Similarly, as is typical of mystery fiction, the killer was "the one you'd least expect". "Private View" satirises the pretentiousness of forms of contemporary art, but does so with the assumption that viewers are familiar with the art world, referencing, for example, Ron Mueck. One critic noted the work of Damien Hirst as a possible influence. The setting contrasts strongly with that of "Diddle Diddle Dumpling", the previous episode, with the "Auton-ish mannequin limbs and all that neon light [giving] the episode a distinct look".
Hertzian spark-gap oscillator at right travel down the parallel wires. The wires are short-circuited together at the left end, reflecting the waves back up the wires toward the oscillator, creating a standing wave of voltage along the line. The voltage goes to zero at nodes located at multiples of a half- wavelength from the end. The nodes were found by sliding a Geissler tube, a small glow discharge tube like a neon light, up and down the line (two are shown on the line).
The title of the album comes from the name for the ad hoc group of musicians including Crow, the "Tuesday Music Club", who came together on Tuesdays to work on the album. Many of them share songwriting credits with Crow. The front cover of the album shows Crow wearing a denim shirt with "a sheepish smile". The back cover has a neon cafe sign of the "Jenny Rose Cafe", consisting of the heart-shaped neon light behind the sign "CAFE" and above the other sign "JENNY ROSE".
Neon lamp tubes were introduced into series production for the centre high-mount stop lamp on the 1995 Ford Explorer. Notable later uses included the 1998 Lincoln Mark VIII with a neon tube spanning the width of the trunk decklid, and the BMW Z8, which made extensive use of neon. The linear format of the neon light source lends itself to centre high-mount stop lamp installation, and neon lights offer the same nearly instant rise time as LEDs. However, neon tubes require a ballast.
During the winter the aircraft were stationed at mountain resorts and generated revenue by flying skiers into the wilderness. Advertisement flights were introduced, where a company or product name was painted on the hull, with a neon-light version underneath, and leaflets dropped from the aircraft.Arnesen: 6–9 Viggo Widerøe traveled to the United States with NOK 25,000 in 1933 and flew back with a Waco Cabin. The same year the company bought five used de Havilland DH.60 Moths from the Norwegian Army Air Service and started aviation schools in Oslo and Bergen.
In 1966 Treweeke returned to Sydney via New York and San Francisco. In the late 1960s Treweeke regularly showed his work at Central Street Gallery in Sydney. His work of this time can be seen as developing a prototype for methods of exhibition practice that have subsequently become known as installation, multi-media and electronic art. A typical Treweeke exhibition during the Central Street years included silkscreen images on modular canvas panels coated in fluorescent paint, a sound component and then the whole space would be saturated in ultraviolet neon light.
After Repairs, a Picasso Returns, The New York Times, 20 April 2010 Several artworks of contemporary artist Tracey Emin were damaged by accident. Her Self Portrait: Bath (a neon light tangled in barbed wire), while exhibited in the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art, sustained almost $2,000 worth of damage when a visitor's clothes got caught in the wire. In the same gallery, another visitor backed into her work Feeling Pregnant III. My Uncle Colin was accidentally damaged by the staff of the National Gallery of Scotland but was later repaired.
A photoionization effect can also be observed here, as the electrode area covered by the glow discharge can be increased by shining light at the lamp. In comparison with incandescent light bulbs, neon lamps have much higher luminous efficacy. Incandescence is heat- driven light emission, so a large portion of the electric energy put into an incandescent bulb is converted into heat. Non-incandescent light sources such as neon light bulbs, fluorescent light bulbs, and light emitting diodes are therefore much more energy efficient than normal incandescent light bulbs.
Around the 1970s, bars in Hong Kong already served a variety of cocktails, beers and also spirits such as gins, whiskeys, brandies and rums, sherries and port wines. In 1978, there were approximately 1757 restaurants with liquor license, only 241 of them were considered as licensed bars. During the 1980s, bars had long opening hours as it was one of the most glorious moments of the bar industry in Hong Kong. The view of neon light signs and slogans used are some of the unique features found in bars from the past.
Baird's system used the Nipkow disk for both scanning the image and displaying it. A brightly illuminated subject was placed in front of a spinning Nipkow disk set with lenses which swept images across a static photocell. The thallium sulphide (Thalofide) cell, developed by Theodore Case in the USA, detected the light reflected from the subject and converted it into a proportional electrical signal. This was transmitted by AM radio waves to a receiver unit, where the video signal was applied to a neon light behind a second Nipkow disk rotating synchronized with the first.
Early in her career she also collaborated with her late sister, the writer Margaret Weatherford, on performance art and worked as a bookkeeper for the artist Mike Kelley. A career breakthrough came in 2012 with Weatherford's Bakersfield Project exhibition at the Todd Madigan Gallery at California State University at Bakersfield where she was an artist in residence. The Bakersfield paintings marked the first time she incorporated illuminated neon light tubes into her abstract paintings. The series was inspired by the colourful neon signs she saw on old restaurant and factory buildings while driving around Bakersfield.
It is also serves as a radio transmitter and secondary studio facilities of the FM radio stations 90.7 Love Radio, 101.1 Yes The Best and 96.3 Easy Rock, as well as temporary studios of AM radio station DZRH and community-formatted national FM station Radyo Natin, all owned by Manila Broadcasting Company. At night, there is an neon light display at the top of the building, with logos of the St Francis Group of Companies, AUX Aircon, and HKTV (HongKong TV) seen on the roofs, giving it an iconic look to the Ortigas skyline.
Shen Fan began disassembling concrete forms and space in painting in the 80s, and started creating abstract painting works. Since the late 1990s, She Fan has endeavored to bring Chinese painting elements into a wide variety of mediums and materials including ceramics, neon light, metal, and music, expanding the boundaries between traditional and new media. He is one of the earlier Chinese artists who amalgamate classical aesthetics into the contemporary context to explore contemporary Chinese cultural expressions. Shen Fan’s works are composed of various series with distinctive features, and ever-evolving materials, while maintaining the temperament of the classical Chinese literati arts.
Hassan often works with traditional or contemporary cultural artifacts, to make cross-cultural references, such as cultural displacement, Argentinian dictatorship (Los Desaparecidos, 1981), or the narratives of intersecting cultures (Boutros Al Armenian / Mediterranean Modern, 1997). A survey exhibition in 2009 at Museum London in London Ontario, combined elements of photography, text, ceramics, neon light and video to tie in language and the politics of place that connects Hassan as a Canadian artist to her Arabic background. In 1983, Hassan co-founded the London artist cooperative, Embassy Cultural House, serving on its board from 1985 to 1990.
He developed a number of new tricks, including the Neon Light and the now ubiquitous Zig Zag Girl. His lesser known inventions include the Aztec Lady, The Blades of Opah, and Aunt Matilda's Wardrobe. Much of his inventive genius was put into written form and he is known as one of the most prodigious authors on the subject of magical effects. However, although Harbin was brilliantly creative in the field of magic he was not a particularly good writer and his friend and associate Eric C Lewis has stated that many of Harbin's titles were ghost written for him.
The Nostrade Family is the mafia family that Kurapika joins in order to find information concerning his people's stolen Scarlet Eyes. It is headed by , and by using the fortunetelling ability of his daughter Neon, Light managed to greatly increase his position in the mafia community, to the point where even the Ten Dons seek his daughter's advice. Before entering the underground auction several bodyguards are hired to protect Neon, including Kurapika, by Dalzollene. After the Phantom Troupe attack on the auction, several of the bodyguards are killed, including Dalzollene, which allows Kurapika to become the lead bodyguard.

The album features 14 tracks, including new, shortened versions of "Karma Car" and "Planetary", both of which had been previously released as EPs on Get Physical. "Charlotte" is the lead single, released ahead of the album on 14 May.Charlotte Release on the U.S. iTunes Store has "Charlotte" instead of "Redemption" since "Redemption" is included as a bonus track, the radio mix of "Numbers" is switched in with "Charlotte"'s position.
In 2018, Erizku launched his first solo exhibition in Asia, Slow Burn, where it included large neon light pieces hanging on the walls. These neon lights inspired by the streets of Hong Kong depict imagery representing culture, law enforcement, and identity as the press release detailed it. As Marianna Cerini writes on the exhibition, that Erizku also provided a mixtape that is incorporated for viewers to engage with that includes Kendrick Lamar and numerous artists. Erizku fully embodies his work with personal experiences as well as ongoing societal issues that are being brought into the neon lights of the art world.
Gas discharge tube containing neon; "Ne" is the chemical symbol for neon. Inspired by Geissler tubes and by Daniel McFarlan Moore's invention of a nitrogen-based light (the "Moore tube"), Claude developed neon tube lighting to exploit the neon that was produced as a byproduct of his air liquefaction business. These were all "glow discharge" tubes that generate light when an electric current is passed through the rarefied gas within the tube. Claude's first public demonstration of a large neon light was at the Paris Motor Show (Salon de l'Automobile et du Cycle), 3–18 December 1910.
Winds of were recorded. In January 1929, a Notice to Airmen said that when visibility was bad any aircraft not fitted with radios were warned against using the Croydon–Edenbridge–Ashford–Lympne route or any of the alternative routes notified in 1927. Later that month it was notified that the aerial lighthouse had been replaced by a 6,000 candlepower neon light which would be visible at a range of . In July 1929 a plan was proposed where an amphibious aircraft would be based at Lympne for use in search and rescue when aircraft were reported missing over the Channel.
It took 10 days to install on the site, with a welcoming ceremony held on 10 June 1999 that featured a piece of music that was commissioned for the event. Known as the "Big Horn" or "The Tib Street Horn", it was one of two sculptures on Tibb Street, with the other being Toy Boy, a neon light tower designed by Peter Freeman in 1998. The section of the wall that supports the sculpture was retained when the rest of the building was demolished. The cleared area was used by National Car Parks for the parking of around 100 cars.
This was transmitted by AM radio waves to a receiver unit, where the video signal was applied to a neon light behind a second Nipkow disk rotating synchronized with the first. The brightness of the neon lamp was varied in proportion to the brightness of each spot on the image. As each hole in the disk passed by, one scan line of the image was reproduced. Baird's disk had 30 holes, producing an image with only 30 scan lines, just enough to recognize a human face. In 1927, Baird transmitted a signal over of telephone line between London and Glasgow.
After its release, "Came Here to Forget" received commercial success in the United States and Canada. The song debuted at No. 1 on Country Digital Song chart on its release with 53,000 sold in its first week, becoming Shelton's fourth No. 1 on the chart. It also entered the Hot Country Songs chart at No. 6, his highest debut and 25th top 10 on that chart, and at No. 18 On Country Airplay, which equaled Shelton's 2014 song "Neon Light" as his highest entry to the chart. This became Shelton's 22nd number one hit and also his 17th consecutive hit of his career.
Champkins also provided design input to Joshua Silver's Adaptive Spectacles and Imperial College's Body Sensing Network, both of which promote well-being and education.Body Sensing Network In 2012, Champkins was commissioned by the Science Museum to design Stephen Hawking a 70th Birthday present. He created the "Black Hole Light" which represents the path light would take falling into a black hole. The light alludes to Hawking radiation and also makes reference to a Geissler tube, similar to a neon light, which provided clues about the existence of sub-atomic particles, arguably leading to the field of Quantum mechanics.
"The Neon Light / In Debt" video released September 10, 2012 as the fourth and final single / video from the Wide Awake Hello album. The band performed at NXNE in June 2011 and a slot for the Frank Zappa Fest / Manifesto, along with other bands such as Ween, in Baltimore in September 2011. The band toured as support act for Filter and Fuel in 2012 and were described as "if Muse, Coldplay and The Killers had a genius, dirty lovechild - its name would be MENEW." In March 2012, the band played SXSW in Austin, Texas which coincided with several dates in Florida including performances on NBC Miami and Daytime NBC Tampa.
His art at that time combined geometric forms with splashed paint, and he experimented with fluorescent colors and neon light art. In the early 1970s his compositions were based on square forms, but by the late 1970s they shifted to linear patterns that resembled abstract landscapes. His later work featured "deep-black pools, rivers and geometric forms that often mask upside-down maps and text." His many awards included the grand prize for painting at the 1965 Concours Artistique du Québec, the Victor Martyn Lynch-Staunton Award of the Canada Council for the Arts in 1993, and the Prix Paul-Émile-Borduas of the Québec government in 2000.
Traditional Durga (details in external link Durga Puja, the biggest festival) a Durga puja pandal Characteristic neon light images glow as late night revellers throng the streets of Kolkata during Durga Puja. Durga Puja, held in September–October, is the biggest and most important festival of West Bengal as well as of Kolkata. It marks the victory of ten-armed goddess Durga over the buffalo demon Mahishasur and signifies the victory of good over evil. The festival commences on Mahalaya, a week before the actual Puja celebrations begin on Sashthi and continue through Saptami, Ashtami, Navami and Vijaya Dashami, when the festival comes to an end.
Knight began his career as a trainee at Chelsea (where he made one appearance in the UEFA Cup against Levski Sofia), before spending loan periods at Queens Park Rangers, Huddersfield Town, Sheffield Wednesday and Brighton & Hove Albion before joining Brighton on a permanent contract in August 2003. During his spell at Huddersfield, he reignited the Terriers' play-off push and formed an unlikely partnership with local hero Andy Booth, earning himself the nickname 'Neon Light'. Unfortunately, he was sent off in the penultimate game of the season and was suspended for the play-off games. Although his transfer was initially free, £50,000 was to be paid if Brighton were promoted.
Swift encouraged fans to find the forthcoming album's title in the "Me!" video. In a May 2019 interview for The Independent, Swift was asked about the clues to the album title; she answered "I think you see it once, and you hear it twice", which led fans to believe that Lover is the title, as the word appears once in the video and twice in the lyrics of "Me!". In the video, the word Lover appeared on a neon light-up sign in the background. On June 13, 2019, she confirmed the album title in an Instagram live-stream, and that Lover would be released on August 23, 2019.
Although Brooks Atkinson thought the score was "hardly more than adequate", he called Merman "as brassy as ever, glowing like a neon light whenever she steps on the stage." Several months into the run, she insisted that two of her least-favorite numbers be replaced by songs written by her friend Roger Edens, who, because of his exclusive contract with Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, credited them to Kay Thompson. She lost the Tony Award to Judy Holliday in Bells Are Ringing, and the show closed after 412 performances, with Merman happy to see what she considered "a dreary obligation" finally come to an end.Kellow, pp. 160–169.
New for 2007 are a section outside the Tower called DecoDance, these were designed by Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen additionally new Doctor Who illuminations have been erected outside the Dr Who exhibition. At six miles (9.65 kilometres) long and using over one million bulbs, the Blackpool Illuminations are an awesome spectacle. The Blackpool Illuminations consist of a wide variety of light displays: lasers, neon, light bulbs, fibre optics, searchlights and floodlighting. In 2006, there were more than 500 scenic designs and features. There are set pieces made out of wood studded with light bulbs; the characters and objects portrayed seem to “move” by way of winking lights.
The U-Drop Inn, also known as Tower Station and U-Drop Inn and Tower Café, was built in 1936 in Shamrock, Texas along the historic Route 66 highway. Inspired by the image of a nail stuck in soil, the building was designed by J. C. Berry. An unusual example of art deco architecture applied to a gas station and restaurant, the building features two flared towers with geometric detailing, curvilinear massing, glazed ceramic tile walls, and neon light accents. It has traditionally held two separate business: "Tower Station", a gas station on the western side, and the "U-Drop Inn", a café on the eastern side.
The video, directed by Micah Meisner, begins with breakdancers in the hallway of an apartment building and k-os is in his room packing to leave, taking a box of seemingly great importance. k-os hails a taxi outside of the Hotel Waverly and two men fight a duel by dancing on the sidewalk. A bag man, pushing a cart with a neon light, sings the lyrics and k-os riding in the taxi, disappears by opening his box, which teleports him to the cockpit of a spacecraft in space. Footage of Maasai are seen on k-os's screen and the spacecraft enters warp drive.
The optimal level of argon is about 0.25%, but some of it gets adsorbed onto the borosilicate glass used for the tubes, so higher concentrations are used to take the losses into account; higher argon content is used in higher-power tubes, as hotter glass adsorbs more argon. The argon changes the color of the "neon light", making it slightly more yellowish. The gas mixtures used in nixie tubes often also included a small amount of mercury vapor, which glowed blue. A Penning mixture of neon and argon is also used as a starter gas in sodium vapor lamps, where it is responsible for the faint reddish glow before the sodium emission begins.
Her focus now resides mainly in the unknown stories that unite people as well as themes of death, decay, and mortality. Although she started with photography, Maddison now also use the mediums of textiles, sculptures, and the moving-image. Some of her experimental works in 2009, belonging to a project called There is a time, include: 'Dead to the world', inkjet print on cotton/silk fabric, found fabric flowers sewn with cotton thread, 'Coming to the Monaro', silent video loop, 'The day I left my garden #1 & #2', perspex, glass, wood, neon light, with pressed and dried flowers on paper and 'There is a time', 2009, archival pigment prints on 100% cotton rag.
The location of Amsterdam, as a city below sea-level, therefore assumes particular significance in relation to the narrator. Moreover, Amsterdam is generally described in The Fall as a cold, wet place where a thick blanket of fog constantly hangs over the crowded, neon-light-lined streets. Beside the atmosphere (which could be established almost anywhere else) the city also was chosen by Camus for a more peculiar reason. In the opening pages Clamence casually remarks, Amsterdam The "last circle of hell" is the site of Amsterdam's red-light district and the location of a bar named Mexico City, which Clamence frequents nightly, and where the bulk of his narrative gradually unfolds.
Color temperature is generally around 2000–3200 K depending on the type of lamp and replaced the higher maintenance arc lamps. An incandescent light bulb is less efficient when compared to High-intensity discharge lamp and gas discharge lighting such as Neon light and are being replaced by more efficient compact fluorescent lamps or converted to mains voltage or high pressure sodium lamps. Tungsten-halogen incandescent lights which are brighter and more efficient and are very commonly used in theatrical and motion picture lighting and better color temperature characteristics are little used in street lighting due to their relatively short lifespan. Standard incandescent lamps are very commonly used in traffic signals, although they are increasingly replaced by LEDs.
Received the Guggenheim fellowship. ; 1980 Chryssa's 70 ft (21 m) Untitled Light Sculpture, six large 'W's connected by cables and programmed electronically to create changing patterns of light through 900 feet of neon tubing, is suspended in the atrium of 33 West Monroe, a Skidmore, Owings & Merrill design and its former headquarters, in Chicago, Illinois. 214x214px ; 1983 Mott Street, named for Mott Street in Chinatown, Manhattan, is a large work in dark aluminium and red-toned neon light which is installed in the Evangelismos station of the Athens Metro. Other works by Chryssa in composite honeycomb aluminum and neon in the 1980s and 1990s include Chinatown, Siren, Urban Traffic, and Flapping Birds.
Her most commonly auctioned sculptural works are phrases in her own handwriting set in neon, usually issued in editions of three, with two artist's proofs. Among her neon works, only one has ever fetched more than £100,000, the red neon light installation I promise to love you, which fetched £102,040 (US$200,000) at Sotheby's, New York, in February 2008. Works on paper, mainly depicting the artist herself, have appeared at auction since 1997 and garnered up to £46,850 ($75,000), the sale price for the gouache Deep Blue III (2011), at Christie's London in 2013. In 2011, British Prime Minister David Cameron added an artwork with 'more passion' in neon by Emin in his private apartment at 10 Downing Street.
Blake Shelton, however, had the highest number of chart-toppers on the airplay listing, reaching the top spot with "Doin' What She Likes", "Neon Light" and "My Eyes". Several acts gained their first number ones during 2014, including Sam Hunt, whose "Leave the Night On" topped both charts in the same week in November. Singer Cole Swindell reached the top of the Hot Country Songs listing with his debut single, "Chillin' It". Frankie Ballard achieved his first career number one when he reached the peak position on Country Airplay with "Helluva Life", and went on to gain his second number one on the same chart later in the year with "Sunshine & Whiskey".
Other numeric-display technologies concurrently in use included backlit columnar transparencies ("thermometer displays"), light pipes, rear-projection and edge-lit lightguide displays (all using individual incandescent or neon light bulbs for illumination), Numitron incandescent filament readouts, Panaplex seven-segment displays, and vacuum fluorescent display tubes. Before Nixie tubes became prominent, most numeric displays were electromechanical, using stepping mechanisms to display digits either directly by use of cylinders bearing printed numerals attached to their rotors, or indirectly by wiring the outputs of stepping switches to indicator bulbs. Later, a few vintage clocks even used a form of stepping switch to drive Nixie tubes. Nixie tubes were superseded in the 1970s by light-emitting diodes (LEDs) and vacuum fluorescent displays (VFDs), often in the form of seven-segment displays.
A promotional video for "Underpass" was produced by Virgin at the time of the single release. It featured Foxx dressed in suit, tie and overcoat roaming a post-apocalyptic basement with neon light tubes, two keyboard players and two abandoned young children while a black and white film is being projected onto a suspended screen. The film of Foxx roaming the basement miming the lyrics to the song is interspersed with a mysterious telephone receiver dangling in a park and footage of underpasses, overpasses and urban highways. A revised 'black and white' version of the video was included on the DVD of the Metatronic compilation album (2010). A revised version was also made by Karborn for the same DVD to accompany "Mark Reeder’s Sinister Subway Mix".
It shows the singer with "cotton candy pink" hair, wearing a "metallic bodysuit with spikes and studs sticking out of it", "a pair of platform boots with a tusk and a knife for its heels" and a "shoulder-to-fingertip sleeve covered in spikes" on one of her hands. She is laying on a large metal grate illuminated by "hot pink neon" light, trapped beneath a massive metal sine wave, which is the previously showcased Chromatica symbol. Trey Alston from MTV described the cover art as "part-Mad Max, Mortal Kombat, and cyber-punk fantasy", while Hilary Hughes from Billboard also found inspiration from the Alien films. The cover photograph was taken by German photographer Norbert Schoerner, with creative direction by Nicola Formichetti.
Claude developed techniques for purifying the inert gases within a completely sealed glass tube, which distinguished neon tube lighting from the Moore tubes; the latter had a device for replenishing the nitrogen or carbon dioxide gases within the tube. The second invention was ultimately crucial for the development of the Claude lighting business; it was a design for minimizing the degradation (by "sputtering") of the electrodes that transfer electric current from the external power supply to the glowing gases within the sign. The terms "neon light" and "neon sign" are now often applied to electrical lighting incorporating sealed glass tubes filled with argon, mercury vapor, or other gases, in addition to neon. In 1915 a U.S. patent was issued to Claude covering the design of the electrodes for neon lights; See reproduction of patent.
Established in 1994, the Bayeux-Calvados-Normandy Awards recognize war correspondents on conflicts in defense of freedoms and democracy. AFP News journalist Anthony Wallace won this year's Bayeux Calvados' Public’s Choice Award for his work series titled "Hong Kong: A Popular Revolt" (Hong Kong, une révolte populaire) capturing scenes of the months-long Hong Kong pro-democracy protests. One of the winning photos, also named "AFP Picture of the Year", was taken on September 13, 2019, when thousands of Hong Kong citizens celebrated mid-autumn festival by lighting up their cellphones along the symbolic Lion Rock trail with a "Free HK" neon- light sign at the summit. In addition to winning the Public's Choice Award, the same series of photographs by Wallace also received second place of the Photo Trophy grand prize.
He was put in a solitary confinement prison cell for 8 years and was not allowed to make any communication with his family or the outside world during that period. In his biography book Escaping to Freedom, he mentions that "the sound of a defective neon light was the highlight of his time during that period since silence was all he could listen to". He could not have a conversation even with his prison guards and food was passed to him through the gap under the prison cell's door. He escaped from Abu Ghraib during the 1991 Gulf War and went to Iran, where he left for UK. He obtained his freedom in an extremely daring 'Hollywood' style escape plan which was conceived, orchestrated and implemented by him.
Lovato announced that the song would be the third single from Demi on September 27, 2013 by posting a short teaser video to her Facebook page featuring the words "Neon Lights" formed out of neon light tubes, with the background music being "Neon Lights". The words "SUNDAY 6 PM EST" appeared on screen just before it ended, suggesting the release of the music video or the new single. However, this was actually a reference to a live Facebook chat Lovato had with her fans on September 29, where she confirmed "Neon Lights" as the next single of Demi and also announced her associated tour of the same name in support of the album. Despite the announcement in September, the official release of the single was on November 19, with the music video being released two days later on November 21.
The exhibition presented works such as Fire, neon light tubes mounted on a gallery wall; Volcano, a tree stump covered in colored wax from candles alight atop it; and Left, an oversized street sign bent into an S-shape.The Modern Institute Mark Handforth's outdoor exhibition (2011) on the Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago’s plaza displays three large-scale and one small-scale work: PhoneBone combines an oversized femur set upright with an equally oversized yellow phone handset affixed to the bone’s side; LamppostSnake and Blackbird—a large, bent lamppost and a massive black aluminum hanger, respectively—sit atop the building’s plinths on either side of the staircase; BeatProp displays an English Bobby hat atop a safety cone, each colored with dripped paint.Mike Thomas, "Museum of Contemporary Art hopes artist can liven up the building," Chicago Sun-Times, July 7, 2011. Alberto Nero, resumed the major repairs and repainting of Our Lady's Basilica. The first move was to treat the whole church and complex with anti-termite chemicals to control and exterminate those destructive pests which have already attacked and damaged considerably both structures. By September 1994, the leaking roofs of the Basilica have been fully repaired and repainted, the damaged ceilings rehabilitated and repainted together with the interior walls of the Basilica, the electrical wirings and installations renovated, the gigantic and ugly chandeliers were replaced with the more luminous and more economical Highbay luminaire lamps, the Cross at the Basilica dome provided with a neon light tubes which distinguishes the Basilica at night even from afar and finally a 20 KVA standby power generator had been purchased and installed to provide emergency lights during brown-outs. On November 3, 1994, the repair works and repainting of the Basilica Minore's exterior walls were resumed.
David Rosenberg curated exhibitions in France and all over the world in collaboration with museums and foundations (MACRO Museum in Rome, Magyar Nemzeti Galéria (Hungarian National Gallery) in Budapest, Musée d’Ixelles (Museum of Ixelles) in Brussels, Musée d’Art Moderne et contemporain de Strasbourg (Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art of Strasbourg), La Maison Rouge in Paris, Boghossian Foundation in Brussels, Fonds Hélène & Edouard Leclerc in Landerneau, K11 in Shanghai, Beyond Museum in Seoul…) and in collaboration with galleries (Kamel Mennour Gallery in Paris, Georges-Philippe et Nathalie Vallois Gallery in Paris, Filomena Soares Gallery in Lisbon, Feizi Gallery in Brussels…). He also organized art events (Parcours Privé FIAC, Parcours Privé Paris Photo, Palais de Tokyo…). In his works, he explored relations between art and different disciplines — such as science, new technologies, dance, and also studied connections between art and comic strip or the world of manga. Furthermore, he did some work around the history of photography and the record of invention (neon light).
The establishment became so well known an entire episode of Seinfeld ("The Chicken Roaster") was dedicated to Kramer's love of Kenny Rogers Roasters chicken which started after he and Jerry Seinfeld switched apartments due to a bright red neon light shining through Kramer's window so he could not sleep. Mr. Jones was not hurt but the ladies were banned from 'The Latin' and from any Tom Jones performance. The celebrities and orchestra players performing at nightclub often drank at the neighboring Rickshaw Inn lobby bar. In 1978, with nightclubs in a general state of decline and competition from casinos in Atlantic City imminent, the Latin Casino was converted to a disco called Emerald City that boasted a neon light show over the dance floor that cost in excess of one million dollars. After a couple years Emerald City shifted from disco to rock club, hosting major and up-and-coming acts of the time such as The Rolling Stones, James Brown & The Famous Flames (who recorded their 1967 album, Live at The Garden, there), Aerosmith, The Ramones, Ultravox, Talking Heads, Elvis Costello, Alice Cooper, Madonna, The B-52's, The Go-Go's, Squeeze, Joan Jett, Dire Straits, The Romantics, UB40, Joe Jackson, Cyndi Lauper, The Psychedelic Furs, George Thorogood & the Destroyers, Blue Öyster Cult, and Prince on his debut tour.
It is the wide range of colors and the ability to make a tube that can last for years or decades without replacement, that makes this an art. Since these tubes require so much custom labor, they would have very little economic viability if they did not have such a long lifetime when well processed. The intensity of neon light produced increases as the tube diameter grows smaller, that is, the intensity varies inversely with the square root of the interior diameter of the tubing, and the resistance of the tube increases as the tubing diameter decreases accordingly, because tube ionization is greatest at the center of the tube, and the ions migrate to and are recaptured and neutralized at the tube walls. The greatest cause of neon tube failure is the gradual absorption of neon gas by high voltage ion implantation into the interior glass walls of the tubes which depletes the gas, and eventually causes the tube resistance to rise to a level that it can no longer light at the rated voltage, but this may take well over 50 years if the tube is properly processed during bombardment and gas back-filling.
