In River of Fire, Needletail, despite having previously acknowledged her mistakes, continues to blame Rowanstar for ShadowClan's downfall for being a "weak leader". Shadowstar rebukes her statement, saying there is more to it than that, and Needletail seemingly accepts her point. On Kate's Blog, Kate Cary stated that she has sympathy for Needletail, but she can't understand why she was so "crabby".

The punishment is for Darktail to drown Needletail, to show Violetpaw what it's like for the only cat she cared about gone. Once a weak and starved Needletail turns on Darktail, herself, Roach, and Raven, she attacks Needletail along with Roach and Darktail. Sleekwhisker helps drown Needletail in the end by the lake and shows no remorse in murdering her childhood friend, showing her complete devotion to Darktail. Once the Kin has been driven out by the other Clans, she runs away with what is left of the Kin; Yarrowleaf and Spikefur follow suit.

Upon joining the rogues, Needlepaw grants herself her warrior name, Needletail, along with Sleekpaw and Juniperpaw, who become Sleekwhisker and Juniperclaw. She is kind of like Violetpaw's sister. In the Thunder and Shadow Barnes & Noble exclusive chapter, Needletail, then Needlepaw, is shown training with Tawnypelt. An owl takes her and no patrols are sent out to search for her.

They build their nests in rock crevices in cliffs, laying 3-5 eggs. The flight is impressively fast, even compared to other swifts. The brown-backed needletail is a very large swift, and at 23 cm is bigger than the Alpine swift and the white-throated needletail. It has a similar build to the latter species, with a heavy barrel- like body.

The brown-backed needletail (Hirundapus giganteus), or brown needletail, is a large swift. These birds have very short legs which they use only mainly for clinging to vertical surfaces. They never settle voluntarily on the ground and spend most of their lives in the air, living on the insects they catch in their beaks. These swifts are resident breeders in hill forests in southern Asia from India east to Indonesia and the Philippines.

She taunts Needletail for training Violetpaw and says they are rogues now, not Clan cats, and that she can learn to hunt and fight on her own like rogues do. It becomes apparent she does not like or favor Violetpaw. This shows more as Darktail favors Violetpaw more. Once Darktail and his rogues go to ShadowClan and force out Rowanstar out of leadership, she follows suite as does Needletail, Juniperclaw, and some other ShadowClan cats such as Spikefur and Mistcloud.

She meets a rogue named Tree, and he takes her back to ShadowClan. Needlepaw is deeply hurt and disappointed to learn that her Clanmates assumed she was dead, sending her on the path of rebelliousness. In Shattered Sky, Needletail is shown to have become one of Darktail's most loyal followers, and is perfectly content when Darktail makes them into the Kin and leaves the weaker cats to fend for themselves. Needletail becomes Violetpaw's only friend during the reign and believes Darktail to be the true leader ShadowClan needs.

However, along with the majority of the former ShadowClan cats, she grows to regret her betrayal after realizing that Darktail is a brutal tyrant who wishes nothing more than to inflict harm onto other cats. She becomes part of the plot to get rid him, but this backfires when Sleekwhisker notices Violetpaw putting poppy seeds in Darktail's prey. Darktail decides to punish Violetpaw by killing the one thing she has left, Needletail. Needletail sacrifices herself to allow Violetpaw to escape to ThunderClan, and as a result is drowned by Darktail, Sleekwhisker, and Roach.

The white-rumped spinetail or white-rumped needletail (Zoonavena sylvatica) is a species of swift found in the forests of Bangladesh, India (the Western Ghats) and Nepal. It is often seen over waterbodies in the middle of forest. It can resemble a house swift but has a white vent.

Needletail's actions are remembered by Violetpaw, and Needletail's parents, Berryheart and Sparrowtail, greatly miss their daughter and are distraught to know that she, at the time, was one of Darktail's most devoted followers. In Darkest Night, it is revealed that along with all the other cats who were drowned by Darktail, Needletail was not granted entry into StarClan, nor the Place of No Stars. Instead, she has been sent to an unnamed residence where she connects with Tree, to who she admits she was wrong to trust Darktail, and later her childhood friend, Alderheart, giving him a prophecy to not dispel the incoming shadows. Upon doing so, Needletail and the other cats are allowed into StarClan.

Like all members of its family, the Pacific swift feeds exclusively on insects caught in flight. It tends to hunt higher than most of its relatives other than the white-throated needletail. The Pacific swift has a large population and extensive breeding area, and faces few threats from predators or human activities.

The white-throated needletail is a migratory bird, breeding in Central Asia and southern Siberia, and wintering south in the Indian Subcontinent, Southeast Asia and Australia. It is a rare vagrant in Western Europe and has been recorded as far west as Norway, Sweden and Great Britain. In June 2013, an individual was spotted in Great Britain after 22 years.

In The Apprentice's Quest and Thunder and Shadow, she is a rebellious and disrespectful apprentice, who, along with many others feels that ShadowClan needs to be feared again. She is angry when Rowanstar turned away Darktail's rogues. Needlepaw openly criticized Rowanstar, and she was punished for speaking out against her leader.

The white-throated needletail (Hirundapus caudacutus), also known as needle- tailed swift or spine-tailed swift, is a large swift in the genus Hirundapus. It is reputed to reach speeds of up to 170 km/h (105 mph) in horizontal flight, but this is unverified because the methods used to measure its speed have not been published. They build their nests in rock crevices in cliffs or hollow trees. They do not like to sit on the ground and spend most of their time in the air.

Needle-tailed swifts get their name from the spined end of their tail, which is not forked as it is in the typical swifts of the genus Apus. The white-throated needletail was first described by the English ornithologist John Latham in 1801 under the binomial name Hirundo caudacuta. Their current genus Hirundapus is constructed from the names of the swallow genus Hirundo and the swift genus Apus. The specific name caudacutus comes from the Latin words cauda meaning "tail" and acutus meaning "pointed".

She supports every decision he has made and is deeply suspicious of Violetpaw. She begins to become suspicious of Needletail as well, after Rain had died in the claws of Darktail for betraying him. When Dawnpelt realizes that it was a mistake to stay with the Kin, she tells Violetpaw that she is going to leave and already has sent Juniperclaw and Strikestone to seek for ThunderClan. Dawnpelt tells Violetpaw that Sleekwhisker would never want to leave the Kin and hasn't even asked her about leaving.

This is a list of the fastest flying birds in the world. A bird's velocity is necessarily variable; a hunting bird will reach much greater speeds while diving to catch prey than when gliding. The bird with the greatest airspeed velocity is the Peregrine falcon, able to exceed 320 km/h (200 mph) in its hunting dives. The beach and the surrounding dunes are a known habitat for many species of birds, including the pied oystercatcher, the hooded plover, the wandering albatross, the white-headed petrel, the providence petrel, the Salvin's prion, the Antarctic prion, the wedge-tailed shearwater, the brown booby, the white- necked heron, the whistling kite, the brown falcon, the red-capped plover, the ruddy turnstone, the bar-tailed godwit, the curlew sandpiper, the caspian tern, the white-throated needletail, the golden-headed cisticola, the chestnut-rumped heathwren, the buff-rumped thornbill and the white-fronted chat.

Violetshine, Tree, and Sandynose find them, and are surprised and angry to see them. Violetshine notes that Sleekwhisker helped murder Needletail, and that Yarrowleaf showed no remorse in attacking her former Clanmates. Sleekwhisker tells them that Spikefur had died of the sickness as they couldn't find the right herbs to treat him with, and no one else helped. Upon arriving, Strikestone and Juniperclaw greet her warmly, and Sleekwhisker and Yarrowleaf beg Leafstar for them to join SkyClan and appear sad once they find out that ShadowClan is no more.

This also is true of Berwickshire, which is home to the second largest windfarm in the UK, Crystal Rig Wind Farm, and where hundreds more turbines are due to be situated, contrary to the wishes of many residents of the county, and the John Muir Trust. Also, the siting of turbines in environmentally sensitive areas has led to the deaths of migratory and native birds, such as on Harris where a rare visitor to Scotland, a white-throated needletail was witnessed being killed by a turbine. Inevitably some carbon emissions are produced during construction and transport. The precise amounts involved are a matter of controversy.

Aughtie Drive (part of the Grand Prix track) looking east over Gunn Island toward 470 St Kilda Road, St Kilda (main reflection), in the St Kilda Road residential and office precinct The parkland, Albert Park lake, and Gunn Island, provides a grassy wetlands habitat for nearly two hundred bird species, both resident and transient. A 1990 study recorded 31 bird species as breeding in the park with a total of 21 these indigenous species. Migratory species include the flame robin, white- throated needletail and sacred kingfisher. Locally rare native bird species that have been recorded in the park include little egret, laughing kookaburra, Australian shelduck, Cape Barren goose, great-crested grebe, white-bellied sea eagle and whiskered tern, while little ravens, Australian magpies, long-billed corella, sulphur-crested cockatoo, willie wagtails and magpie-larks are common.

Foraging non breeding flocks are recorded on the Central Coast every few years and rely on healthy woodland which is species rich for their survival. Other migratory bird species known to visit the park are the white-throated needletail (Hirundapus caudacutus), The Caspian tern (Hydroprogne caspia), and the white-bellied sea-eagle (Haliaeetus leucogaster). These seasonal bird species are protected under several migratory bird agreements with China, Korea, and Japan. Other than birds, the following EPBC endangered species are known to occur in the park: giant burrowing frog (Heleioporus australiacus), green sea turtle (Chelonia mydas), The koala (Phascolarctos cinereus), which is now restricted in distribution on the Central Coast, spotted-tailed quoll (Dasyurus maculatus), lLong-nosed potoroo (Potorous tridactylus), grey-headed flying fox (Pteropus poliocephalus), large-eared pied bat (Chalinolobus dwyeri), and the New Holland mouse (Pseudomys novaehollandiae).
