Mtama is a ward (shehia) in Lindi Rural, Lindi Region, Tanzania. The population was approximately 11,500 as of the 2002 census.

Nape Moses Nnauye is a Tanzanian politician presently serving as the Chama Cha Mapinduzi's Member of Parliament and for Mtama constituency since November 2015. He was elected as a Member of Parliament for Mtama constituency in the October 2015 general election and was thereafter appointed by President John Magufuli as the Minister of Information, Culture, Artists and Sports in December 2015. He was relieved of his duty in a mini cabinet reshuffle by the president on 23 March 2017 and was replaced by Harrison Mwakyembe.

Bernard Kamillius Membe (born 9 November 1953) is a Tanzanian ACT-Wazalendo politician who was Minister of Foreign Affairs of Tanzania from 2007 to 2015. He served as a Member of Parliament for Mtama constituency from 2000 to 2015.

In addition to cattle herding, they usually grow crops for food and merely for sale. The main crops are uwele, maize and mtama. They also grow cassava and sweet potatoes in the plateaus. In recent years however these people have developed an interest in growing some commercial crops such as sunflowers and onions due to relatively increase in markets in the region.

Its vegetation is basically composed of pine and oak in the Sierra de La Primavera, in addition to the species cretón, jonote, madroño, ozote, mtama, savila and nopal in the northern and eastern part in the ravine.
