An awkward jump at the last allowed Petit Mouchoir to briefly regain the lead but Honeysuckle rallied strongly and held off the challenge of the outsider Darver Star in the final strides to win by half a length. Blackmore said "She's got a massive heart and a massive will to do it... She's always done everything I've asked her to do and I wasn't too worried about coming back in trip." Guerlain's Mitsouko The business was handed down to the sons of Gabriel Guerlain: Jacques Guerlain and Pierre Guerlain. Buveur d'Air returned to Aintree in April and started the 11/4 second favourite behind Limini (winner of the Dawn Run Mares' Novices' Hurdle) in the Grade 1 Top Novices' Hurdle. Equipped with ear-plugs, he moved into contention at the final flight, caught the leader Petit Mouchoir in the final strides and won by a neck with a gap of eight lengths back to Limini in third. The unplaced runners included Bleu et Rouge (Deloitte Novice Hurdle) and Agrapart (Betfair Hurdle). At the end of the season he was bought privately by J P McManus.

After racing in second place he took the lead at the second last and held off a strong challenge from Maputo to win by half a length. On 26 December he won again, taking a novice hurdle at Kempton Park Racecourse by thirteen lengths from the Willie Mullins-trained Open Eagle. On 15 March 2016 Altior made his first appearance at the Cheltenham Festival when he was one of fourteen horses to contest the Supreme Novices' Hurdle and started the 4/1 second favourite behind Min, an Irish gelding who had won the Moscow Flyer Novice Hurdle on his last start. The other runners included Buveur d'Air, Bellshill, Charbel and Petit Mouchoir.

For the next National Hunt season Apple's Jade was transferred to the stable of Gordon Elliott in County Meath after Gigginstown's owner Michael O'Leary had a disagreement with Mullins over training fees. On her first run for her new trainer, the mare started 1/2 favourite for the WKD Hurdle at Down Royal Racecourse on 4 November but after leading for most of the way she was overtaken in the closing stages and beaten into second place by Rashaan. Later that month she was sent to England for the Grade 1 Fighting Fifth Hurdle at Newcastle Racecourse. She lost her position after being hampered by the fall of Petit Mouchoir at the third last and despite rallying strongly she failed by a nose to overhaul the eight-year-old gelding Irving.

In the Contenders Hurdle at Sandown Park Racecourse he was partnered by Barry Geraghty and went off at odds of 1/4 against three opponents headed by the dual Fighting Fifth Hurdle winner Irving. After racing in fourth place for most of the way he "cruised" into the lead on the run-in and won by one and a half lengths from Rayvin Black. In the 2017 Champion Hurdle at Cheltenham on 14 March Buveur d'Air started the 5/1 second favourite behind the Christmas Hurdle winner Yanworth. The other nine runners included Petit Mouchoir (winner of the Irish Champion Hurdle), Brain Power (Wessex Youth Trust Handicap Hurdle), The New One, My Tent Or Yours, Footpad (Prix Alain du Breil, Prix Renaud de Vivier) and Wicklow Brave (Irish St. Leger).
