The main use for the dabakan in Maguindanao and Maranao society is as a supportive instrument in the kulintang ensemble, keeping the tempo of the ensemble in check like the babendil. On most rhythmic modes, such as sinulog and duyog, the dabakan enters after babandil but in tidto, where the babendil is absent, the dabakan always starts the piece. The Maguindanao and the Maranao usually position the dabakan to the right of the kulintang player, near the end of its frame, during a traditional performance. In 2008, after the change of sister station KEZE from Rhythmic Top 40 to Country, KZZU somewhat returned to its CHR roots by adding some rhythmic music during the evening hours while maintaining the Adult Top 40 format during the daytime. In 2011, KEZE dropped AAA (who adopted the format from KXLY-FM the year prior as part of a format swap) and returned to Rhythmic Contemporary music as "Hot 96.9." The format flip on 96.9 resulted in KZZU dropping most rhythmic music to avoid overlapping with KEZE, though it would retain some rhythmic tracks. BDS monitored radio panel update CBS Radio moved WPGC to the Rhythmic panel from the R&B;/Hip-Hop panel due to WPGC becoming more of a hit-driven Rhythmic Top 40 that is more in line with their other Rhythmic outlets and to be more competitive with Top 40/CHR rival WIHT. However, it retained a heavy urban lean to programming when compared to most rhythmic-formatted stations on the panel. Ironically, they were also the second CBS Radio Rhythmic outlet on the BDS Rhythmic panel with a R&B;/Hip-Hop direction, the other being WZMX- Hartford, Connecticut. WPGC is considered the largest station owned by Entercom within its urban/rhythmic division, based on market size (Washington, DC #7).

Compared to Ivy's previous releases, All Hours explores new sounds and genres; according to John Bergstrom, a writer for PopMatters, the album combines indie pop and synth- pop, in addition to being reminiscent of music from the 1980s. AllMusic's Matt Collar agreed, stating the album has a "stylish, early-'80s disco-meets-new wave vibe" and then said it heavily experiments with electronic music, whereas previous Ivy records only "flirted" with it. Chase and Schlesinger solely wrote and produced all of the 11 tracks that appear on All Hours. Chase noted that the album was different for them because it contains mainly "drum machines and synthesizers [and] almost no guitars"; he later referred to it as likely their "most rhythmic [and] danceable album" to date.

On August 18, 2009, CHUM-FM left 1331 Yonge Street, ending 46 years at its historic home. The site is slated to become a new condominium complex. The new building is adjacent (and connected) to Bell Media's headquarters at 299 Queen Street West (which also formerly housed the studios of Citytv). Until late 2009, CHUM-FM continued to be the most listened to and most influential radio station in Canada with over 1,166,000 weekly listeners according to the BBM data released on December 3, 2007. But in December 2009, when CJEZ-FM flipped from adult contemporary to adult hits, adult contemporary rival CHFI-FM became the most-listened-to radio station in Toronto. During the 2005-2009 season, CHFI continued to usually beat CHUM-FM as the top-rated radio station in Toronto, although CHUM-FM had unseated CHFI in some books. Also in 2009, CHUM- FM dropped most modern adult contemporary artists and large numbers of older songs from its playlist, and began leaning towards rhythmic AC. By 2011, CHUM- FM dropped most rhythmic artists and now patterns itself to be more of a mainstream Hot AC station. At this point, CHUM-FM's playlist closely resembled CHFI's, who began phasing in more currents and rhythmic content. On September 10, 2010, Bell Canada announced plans to re-acquire 100% of CTVglobemedia's broadcasting arm, including CHUM Radio.
