Part one of Spiegel's story details the activities of a closeted group of gay psychiatrists within the APA who met in secret and called themselves the GAYPA ... and another, even more secret group of gay psychiatrists among the political echelons of the APA.

The higher the administrative level of the issuing office, generally the more secret the document is. In local government the issuing grades are province [sheng 省], region (or city directly subordinate to a province) [diqu 地区or shengzhixiashi 省直辖市] and county [xian 县]; grades within government organs are ministry [bu 部], bureau [ju 局] and office [chu 处]; in the military corps ([jun 军], division [shi 师], and regiment [tuan 团]. The most authoritative documents are drafted by the Central Committee to convey instructions from CCP leaders. Documents with Chinese Communist Party Central Committee Document [Zhonggong Zhongyang Wenjian 中共中央文件] at the top in red letters are the most authoritative.

While the Lady of Pain is considered the ultimate ruler of the planar metropolis called Sigil, "the City of Doors", the Factions perform virtually all the actual administrative and practical functions of the city. They are the ones the people look to for authority; the Lady only gives edicts or appears personally under rare circumstances. Each of the Factions is based around one particular belief system; many of the Factions' beliefs make them enemies where their other goals and actions might have made them allies. All Factions hold many secrets from non-members and even their own members, for the fewer who know a secret, the more secret it is (and these are secrets of power, either wielded or potentially gained by the Faction's adversaries).

Pilger criticised Barack Obama during his presidential campaign of 2008, saying that he was "a glossy Uncle Tom who would bomb Pakistan" and his theme "was the renewal of America as a dominant, avaricious bully". After Obama was elected and took office in 2009, Pilger wrote, "In his first 100 days, Obama has excused torture, opposed habeas corpus and demanded more secret government". Dikgope Andrew "Magic Bones" Madi was an Umkhonto we Sizwe, or MK, combatant involved in the liberation struggle under apartheid. He is believed to have been involved in military operations and extortions, including the 1981 bombing of the Sibasa police station which killed two police officers and crippled a third one. Mr Madi was later kidnapped and tortured by security policemen force and secretly buried at Thohoyandou. City Press 07 December 1997, "TRC to exhume eleven more `secret' graves of MK cadres", Hangwani Mulaudzi , 07 December 1997 Following its exhumation in December 1997 along with 11 other combatants and under the direction of the then Premier Ngoako Ramatlhodi, he was reburied military-style at Marapyane in Mpumalanga on 11 January 1998.

A group by that name, properly the "Venatori Umbrorum", were previously mentioned in the series, described by Harry Dresden as "like the masons, but with machine guns." Thomas's Venatori is not that group, but an older one, which created the Venatori Umbrorum to serve as a support network and cover organization for the original Venatori. The old Venatori are a much more secret group whose purpose is to keep certain entities known as the 'Old Ones' at bay in a conflict known as the Oblivion War. These Old Ones have power only in proportion to the amount that people think about them, so the primary means of combating them is concealing information of their existence; doing this, and directly opposing the actions of their servants and followers, is the purpose of the Venatori.

It is said that the NIS may have begun as early as 1984 to facilitate indirect secret talks with the ANC after South Africa signed the Nkomati Accord with Mozambique. These accords resulted in the ANC losing access to its bases in that country and South Africa's Directorate Military Intelligence undertaking to end its support to RENAMO, which however it did not. These indirect talks may have been through third parties of Afrikaner academics and Broederbond members meeting with the ANC overseas. With P. W. Botha's permission, Neil Barnard, Mike Louw, Kobie Coetzee and Fanie van der Merwe (Director General of the Prisons Department) began more secret but formal meetings with Nelson Mandela, while in the background white Afrikaner academics, politicians, businessmen, journalists and churchmen held both secret and open talks with the ANC overseas.

The player can also remove a utility belt from the default suit, which holds some extra web fluid. There are ten alternate suits in total, and five of them can be unlocked after completing certain tasks, or taking pictures of secret spider graffiti hidden within the city, such as the Scarlet Spider suit, the Black Suit from the 2007 film Spider-Man 3, a color-inverted version of the Future Foundation suit, the Negative Zone suit, and the Big Time suit. The Communist Party of China was founded in 1921, during the May Fourth Movement, which Mao Zedong referred to as the birth of communism in China. After a period of slow growth and alliance with the Kuomintang (Chinese Nationalist Party), the alliance broke down and the Communists fell victim in 1927 to a purge carried out by the Kuomintang under the leadership of Chiang Kai-shek. After 1927, the Communists retreated to the countryside and built up local bases throughout the country and continued to hold them until the Long March. In the third film, Leo Barnes is now the chief of security for lawyer-turned-senator Charlie Roan (Elizabeth Mitchell) in Washington D.C., who runs for the presidency with aims to end the Purge after her family was killed (during the events of the first film). Barnes is first seen during a presidential debate where Roan gains a standing ovation after rebutting her rival, NFFA candidate Minister Edwidge Owens, by stating how the Purge only serves to eliminate the poor and benefit the rich and powerful. On the day before the annual Purge, after the NFFA revokes the rule granting immunity to ranking 10 government officials, Leo urges Roan not to stay in her unsecured home instead of moving to a secure bunker, but Roan refuses. Leo revamps security and has the house re-secured with new barricades (James Sandin's security system) and surrounded by secret service agents and SWAT snipers standing watch outside; his partners, Chief Couper and Eric Busmalis; as well as three more secret service agents partly supervising the event from indoors.

Tegan's forthrightness and strength of will are just what the Dymova need to free themselves from slavery to their god—but there is one more secret which the Observer must reveal before Tegan is ready to stop the Doctor from spoiling the Observer's plans... Nyssa dreams of the death of Traken and her father, and of the Toymaker warning the Consuls not to trust the Doctor. The Toymaker then brings the Doctor to his realm, where he reveals that he is the Guardian of Dreams, one of the fundamental forces which make up the Universe; as such, he creates games and illusions to justify his existence, just as the Black and White Guardians create chaos and conflict to justify theirs. As such he does not require a physical existence, but since he bound himself to Rallon he has found he cannot separate himself from his stolen form—and since Rallon is now dying after centuries of existence bound to the Toymaker, the Toymaker too will die unless the Doctor can separate them and take Rallon's place. If he does not, the Toymaker will torture him and his companions for the rest of eternity.
